Address book is making stuff Up

I have a group in my address book, not all the users have email addresses. I used to be able to drag the group to my Email and all the people without Email address would be skipped.
Now the address book just adds mac.com to anyone with out email address and tries to send an email to the address it just made up.
needless to say I get a lot of bounced email.

  • How can I put a contact in two or more Address Books without making a 'new contact' for each?

I would like to put several of my contacts in more than one Address Book; but, if I move them (drag'n'drop) from one they no longer remain in the original Book...which I want. I'd like to segregate different interest groups and file them in separate Address Books, but many of my contacts fit in several Address Book identities. Any solution to keep from having to make whole new contact addresses for existing contacts? Thanks for any help you might offer..... NJR

If I want to copy a contactl to another address-book I simly hold down the ctrl-key when I drag and drop

  • Custom image from Address book not syncing to Exchange.

I am running Mac OS X v 10.7.5. I have added custom images to contacts in address book. I have an Exchange account which will sync the data (ie name, address, email) but not the custom image. Is there away to have custom images sync to Exchange/Outlook?

I'm Running Mac OS X Lion, and have seen that changes made in the mac address book do not sync to gmail contacts but changes to gmail contacts do sync to the mac address book.
Making a change to a contact on my phone does sync to gmail contacts, and then to the mac address book.
Another test I ran was to change the same contact in gmail and mac address book.  I made a change to a mobile number and notes in one contact on my mac address book, attempted to sync, and the change does not appear in my gmail contacts.  I tried multiple times, restarted my web browser, restarted mac address book, the sync would not work.  I changed the same contact mobile number in gmail with a slightly different change to the notes field so I could see when an update occurred, and when I told mac address book to sync it recognized a conflict. When I select the mac address book change to resolve the conflict, the gmail contact is not updated.  When I repeated the experiment and selected the gmail contact to resolve the conflict the change is made in the mac address book.

  • Importing Windows Outlook Express address book

    Hello
I have been trying to import an Outlook Express address book (which is stored on a DVD) to MS Entourage with not much luck
I can't seem to find an 'option' to import an external address book.
The only options available seem to be to import Entourage docs/archives etc.
    Can anyone help?

I've been looking into this myself and there are a number of possibilities. You can't just import an address book but importing all your contacts can be done. Search discussions here for the topic (the Mail and Address Book forum has stuff on getting contacts out of Outlook) and also Google the web, there are several threads elsewhere. There are even shareware utilities to help.
Also look under Mac 101: Shifting From PC in the Support section here. Apple has a little bit to say on it, although not terribly helpful to me.

  • How can I email a group list from my contacts/Mac address book?

I love the Apple address book for making media lists for my PR business because it enables me to add dates and actions.  But when a client wants to see the list via email, I'm flummoxed. I've been rewriting as a Word document, but that eliminates the convenience of Address Book.   I could print, scan, and send, but that's cumbersome. If we can share a contact, why can't we share a Group list? Or, am I missing something simple?
    Thanks!

    Howdy J-carolyn9,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the article linked below, it’ll walk you through the process of printing a group of contacts from Address Book on your Mac.
Mac Basics: Address Book - Apple Support
If you'd like a tangible address book, print out a pocket-sized version of Address Book. Select the names that you want to include from the contacts list, or select a group, and choose Print from the File menu. Click Show Details, and choose Pocket Address Book from the Style pop-up menu, select any other options you want, and click Print.
    Ciao,

  • Reset Mail & Address Book prefs back after Archive & Install

Please let me know what files I need to move around to get back my old mail files & address book. Also some of my programs won't start. They say they are missing files. What do I do?

Okay, here is the whole story with this:
I left on vacation & came back 7 days later. As I booted & began to try to download my vacation pics from my camera, it seemed really slow, so I had to force shut down. When I tried to reboot, it doesn't get past the gray screen with the apple & progress indicator. It just spins & spins but goes nowhere. I have seen where people have posted that they came back after a couple hours & their computer was working. No luck here, I left it on all day while I was at a work, & it was still stalled at the same spot when I came home. Below are the things I have tried:
    1. DiskWarrior. (I can get it to boot from the CD using the C command on startup.) It ran through replacing the directory. Found a bunch of errors but fixed them. Shows the hard drive is fine. After rebooting & the computer still stalling, I tried DiskWarrior again but it showed nothing wrong.
    2. Tried zapping PRAM & NVRAM. No luck.
    3. Disk Utility. I ran disk utility. It found no disk errors. Tried again, still stalls.
    4. Tried holding down shift key to start in safe mode, but it does nothing at all.
    5. I did a search on Apple.com & found where it said to find the file BaseSystem.pkg & get it into /Library/Receipts. Replaed the file with the one from the Tiger install CD. Still stalls.
    6. Decided to just go do an Archive & Install to replace the old system, but it won't let me. Says I have a newer version & have to do a clean install. This would cause me to loose a bunch of important files that I haven't backed up lately (I know! I know! I'm bad!!!). Freaked a bit.... It would take me forever to burn cds of all my files...
    7. OS 9. So I thought I would try to startup in OS 9.2, & that works. So I am assuming that it is an issue with OS X Tiger.
    8. I also tried to boot up without anything plugged in but the keyboard & mouse. Still stalled.
    9. I also tried repairing the permissions using Disk Utility from the Tiger CD, but it gave me an error "No Valid Packages".
    10. Also, I also held down Command V & this is the jabberwacky that come up:

Kept trying and trying & got it to let me verify/repair the permissions. Then I verify/repair the disk. Everything was fine. I was able to back up all my document files in OS9. But I still had them because the I did the archive & install. But the inbox for my mail, along with my address book (& some other stuff I am sure I will miss soon) I would like to get back to normal. Please let me know if this is possible.
    Thanks,
    Heidi

Does anyone know a way i can get old info back (mail and address book) (which i would then export in some way to get onto new disc ?).I have tried copying new library back onto/onto old disc but get message as it begins that something ? port something is in use so it can not be copied.Basically does any one know what i need to copy and paste back into/onto old disc (library ?) to get my old info back into mail and address book.I can not understand how else i could have lost it ? (apart from deleting
    library ?).Any suggestions please.
    thanks

Hi Rick, there are actually 3 Library folders...
    /System/Library/
    /Library/
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/
This last one is where your Mail & AB info would be.
    On Mail...
First Quit Mail & Address Book.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
    Only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    For Address Book...
    Files...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist

  • Partial Synch - Mac Address Book & iPhone

When iPhone is synched, only some of the contacts in Address Book are making it to iPhone. I can't find any logic for why. I don't have any groups, etc... All contacts are essentially the same, but only 56 out of 93 make it over to iPhone. I have reset iphone, reinstalled iPhone software, etc... but nothing seems to work. In iTunes, I simply have it set to synch "all contacts". Please advise if you can help.
    Thanks.

    Try this...
      -  Dock phone with iTunes.
      -  With phone selected in the DEVICES list, click Info tab.
      -  Scroll to the bottom to Advanced section.
      -  Under "Replace information on this phone:" check the Contacts box.
      -  Click Apply.

  • Address Book making multiple copies of latest entry upon reopen

Lately when I have been entering an entry in to address book, each time i reopen after the program after having previously entered a new contact i get about 20 copies of the latest entry. What is going on? How can i rectify?
The problem started following a recent .csv file import.
    Thanks for any help!
    -Ponderosa

do you use mobileme? if you do it could be corrupt sync data. then disable and reset syncing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1497
if that doesn't help or you don't use mobileme quit Address book and delete the file homedirectory/library/application support/address book/AddressBook-v22.abcddb. then start Address Book and see if it behaves.

  • Mac Address Book keeps deleting any new entry I make, 5 seconds after making it.

Since yesterday, Address Book won't keep any changes I make to it.  Type in new data and 5 to 10 seconds later it deletes it. If I change a word in the notes section -- it holds for a few seconds then reverts back to the previous word that was there...

Do update your OS to 10.4.11 as well.

  • Keep a list of email addresses, w/out making contacts in Address Book?

Hi everyone. I frequenly send out emails to a long list (~30-40) of email addresses. I do not know the names of every person on the list, nor do I wish to make many new contacts in Address Book. Is there a way to simply keep that list of addresses as an email group, without having to add new contacts for each email address?
For now, I'm copying and pasting the list from TextEdit into the "To:" box. It works well enough, but I'd like to streamline the process. Thanks in advance!

    Hi Alexander.
If I’ve understood it correctly, you could just select a message previously sent to that list, then do Message > Send Again and change everything except the To header. The name of the Send Again command is actually a misnomer, as it doesn't really cause anything to be sent. It just creates a draft copy of the selected message which you can then modify and send like you would do with any other message.

  • 3000 old emails back to 2009 came along for the ride when I transferred aol address book to Mac address book. All attempts to delete en masse have no results. Too much stuff. Procedures?

3000 old emails, some as far back as 2009, came along for the ride when I transferred aol address book to imac address book. Can't find the magic key to permanently delete them. Ideas on procedures?

    I'd try deleting 50 at a time - 3000 is a stretch.
By the way, double posting is not at all helpful.

  • Making Groups Not From Address Book

Is there anyway to make a group but not use the contacts in my Address Book--I have a bunch of distribution lists in AOL--I do not want the people to be in my contacts in Address but I want to make a Distribution List--a way to drag them into the address

You could create a temporary group in the Address Book.
    1. Create a group "distro list"
    2. Add the list of email addresses to this group (can be imported from a text file or vCard file as well.)
    3. While in Address Book, select the group and choose menu item File >> Export >> Export Group vCard.
    4. Delete the unwanted group "distro group" from the Address Book.
This will create a vCard file on your desktop. Anytime you want to send mail to this group of users, just drag the vcard file into the "To:" field in your new email window.
If you need to edit the distro list, you can import, modify, then re-export and delete the group again from Address Book.
You could always just maintain your distro list in a text file and copy-paste, but this way at least gives you a somewhat portable archive of your list.
