Address Book (or Contacs) won't open

Well I just did an "inteligent group" (don't know if that's the name in english) in my address book. I think the problem is that it has 15 rules, wich all are almost the same (CARD - DOESN'T BELONG TO - GROUP A, B, etc). From that moment, I can't make the app run. If I click the icon, it jumps, it lights below the icon, but the window never open and if I click the dock icon it says "the app does not respond". So, how can I delete the group I just made without entering the app? If not, how can I solve this? Thanks in advice.
EDIT: I just discovered that while the app is "hanging" (ligth below the icon, but no window) it starts to use hard disk space (it took 8 gb in 5 min), but when I force quit the app, I get that space back. So weird..

I am having the same problem. New contacts made in the iPhone 4 will not sync and appear in my computer's address book. So here is what happens:
1st - you try a sync and the new contact you made on your iPhone is still on your iPhone, but does not show up in your Mac's address book
2nd - the next time you sync, the contact is removed from your iPhone

Mail and address book continue to crash upon opening - iPhone related???

Ever since I synced my iphone last night I cannot open my mail app or the address book app. Everytime I open them they crach before getting open. Any thoughts?
I I delete my prefs will I loose my mail accounts and address book file? Also if I delete prefs should I do a restart? then try and open the apps again?
I have already tried to repair permissions.

As long as you copy user>library>mail folder to somewhere else, you will NOT lose your mail in/out/sent and accounts informations.
Give it 24 hours. It's been 20 hours so far. Things will get fixed and hashed out.

Have downloaded audio book and it won't open

Have downloaded an audio book, and it won't open. It has a red dot next to it, but has downloaded.

Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)
Note: You will not lose any data.

Help!! Address Book and iCal don't open

When I try to open Address Book or iCal they won't open. I've reinstalled the latest OS update (10.4.10) and still they won't open. I urgently need to access some of the details in my address book - does anybody have idea why they won't open?
Any help at all will be massively appreciated. Thanks.
One more thing - I had a faulty ram chip replaced a couple of weeks ago - could this have had any bearing on this situation? They worked fine prior to this.

This is in response to the iCal crash problems. I'm posting this in several different forums, so please pardon the generalized nature of the response.
System:
*Hardware:
**Mac Book Pro,
**1.83GHz Intel Core Duo
**1.5 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
**60 GB hard disk
*Software:
**Mac OS X ver 10.4.10
Symptom: iCal suddenly started crashing on launch. Sometimes the calendar would appear and then close before the individual calendars on the side pain would populate. Othertimes it would crash before. Crash reports were almost always generated.
Thanks to the guys at the Oakridge Mall (San Jose, CA) Apple Store, I was given an overview of how to move folders in the ~/Library folder to the desk top, launch iCal, see if that works. We tried the Preferences folder first, that didn't work. I figured it would take a while to narrow it down, so I took my Mac Book home to continue work on it, and I narrowed it down to the Caches folder.
Procedure: (I did all this through the Finder).
1) Move ~/Library/Caches to the desktop.
2) Start iCal. A new Caches folder should be created, and iCal should spend a little time setting up, then iCal should work with all previously existing calendars present and up to date (at this point, I can't tell that I've lost anything at all).
3) Rename the newly created Caches folder to "Caches-New" (or otherwise save this folder).
4) Move the Caches folder which was saved to the desktop back to the ~/Library folder.
5) Copy the following from "Caches-New" to the just-restored Caches folder:
5a) Copy Caches-New/com.apple.iCal to ~/Library/Caches (you will be replacing the old version of this file)
5b) Copy Caches-New/Metadata/iCal to ~/Library/Caches/Metadata (you will be replacing the old version of this folder).
I suspect the problem was with the contents of the Metadata folder.

(Similar steps might be used for the address book. I noticed that when the new Cache folder was created, there were address book components as well after I opened iCal).

My time machine backup of address book and iphoto etc wont open

So I'm about to do a bunch of stuff on my computer and want to make sure that my time machine backups are going to be able to be restored and that I can unpartition my bootcamp drive safely. I will be downloading SnowLeopard, Parrallels, and some other software. I really want to make sure that certain apps, such as address book, iphoto, and itunes have been backed up correctly and that they will be able to be restored. When I opened my time machine backup folder and clicked on those three apps, it gave me an error code. I don't want to start doing all of the things listed above without being confident that I will be able to recover any stuff that may get lost. How do I accomplish this?
Also, how do I unpartition my drive to get rid of Bootcamp?

Address Book launches spontaneously, won't close

I don't even use Address Book; I use MS Entourage 2004. Yet now and then the fan on my Macbook starts running loudly and, when I take a look (opt-command-esc) I see that Address book is running. I try to close it normally and via Force Quit, yet it won't go away, remaining on the list and activated on the Dock. Anybody know why this program is launching itself and refusing to close down? Thanks.

Thanks, AK. In answer to your questions, no, it has not always been like this. Certainly it's been since I upgraded to Leopard, maybe even since an update of that. I can't figure what else I might be running that wants Address Book. I do have addresses in there, I think it syncs with Entourage.
I do now find that it closes eventually, but only after holding out for a long sullen interval following Force Quit.

Books from Library won't open any longer

I can't open any acsm files from the libary any longer. My Digital Editions has been working for over a year and now it won't open any files. I've tried changing my password, uninstalling and reinstalling Digital Editions Nothing works. Opening an ascm file does nothing. No error, no book nothing.

Address Book (and iCal) won't quit

Hi - I have a MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo running OSX 10.4.11 (i know, i know i will get to leopard soon..) and recently Address Book and regularly iCal won't quit without being forced. There doesn't seem to be any problem operating either programs (though with iCal i have to re-adjust the frame size to see the entries) and Address Book updates up via iSync etc.. but it just won't quit.
Anyone got any thoughts?

Using your restore disk(s) you could use Software Restore from your Applications/Software Restore and reinstall iCal and Address Book. Launch Software Restore and just follow the onscreen instructions.

Address Book 'Frozen' and Will Not Open

My Address Book has completely frozen and will not open. Whenever I try to open the application, it just 'hangs' there, without actually opening. It was working fine only a few hours ago.
I've tried the following:
*Restarting my MacBook 3 times
*Restoring Address Book from Time Machine
*Deleting Address Book and reinstalling from the Leopard Installer disk
Nevertheless, Address Book will not open. Any suggestions?

I fixed the problem! I'm including the solution here, in case anyone else has the same problem.
It appears that my Smart Groups somehow caused my Address Book to freeze up. Unfortunately, you can't delete your Smart Groups while the application is open. Instead, try this:
1.) Close down Address Book
2.) Go to Applications/AppleScript/Script Editor
3.) Enter the following into Script Editor, replacing NAME OF SMART GROUP with the actual name:
tell application "Address Book"
delete group "NAME OF SMART GROUP"
end tell
4.) Click "Run."
5.) Reopen Address Book. This should fix the problem. At least it did for me.

Address Book and iCal won't launch

Neither my Address Book nor my iCal will Launch. I've tried binning the preferences and short of replacing the operating system I wondered if someone might have a view on this.

Address Book - beach ball spinning never opens

Just upgraded to Snow Leopard...Address Book launches but never loads any contacts and just hangs on a blank Address Book window with the spinning ball...any suggestions??

Address Book and Mail Lag on openning

I just installed Snow Leopard and now my Address Book and Mail hang for 10 mins before they start. And when I try and manipulate the Address book that lags before the operation completes, I thought SL was suppose to make things better? Somebody PLEASE HELP! This problem is happening on both my IMAC and Macbook. I also use Mobile Me.

Known issue with Smart Groups in Address Book...it's not Mail.
Delete all Smart Groups in Address Book and it will fix the problem for both...it takes a long time to do since you get the spinning beach ball when you click on anything in Address Book, so give yourself about an hour.
There are other threads about the issue...hopefully it will be fixed in an update...good luck!

Some books in iBooks won't open after iOS 8.1.3

I have an iPad Air and today I just updated to iOS 8.1.3. When I go to open ebooks or pdfs in iBooks, only certain books will open. When I press on the icon after about 10 seconds a little the sunburst icon in the middle appears, cycles through and then disappears. I've tried restarting my iPad several times but I'm still encountering the same problem.

I updated my iPad mini 2 this week to iOS 8.1.3.
Unfortunately, all PDFs and many EPUBs disappeared from iBooks.
Next i realized, that iBooks content is not saved in iCloud as part of the backup.
For me, iBooks with EPUB and PDFs was a main reasons to buy more Apple products. Loosing them during an update is such a disaster.
Hope, that Apple will solve this ASAP and spends a tiny fraction of the last quarter earnings into software quality ...

Book on ADE won't open using BlueFire on my IPAD.....HELP!

Okay - so here are the facts as best I can remember them
I downloaded my constitutional law book using ADE in August of 2012 on my laptopI can't remember if I had downloaded it anonomoysly or if I had created an ID...i think I created an ID
Today I downloaded ADE version 2.0 on my laptop and migrated the constitutional law ebook to the new version of ADE
I downloaded BlueFire reader
I connected my IPAD to my laptop, and using ITUNES added the book to the BlueFire reader on my IPAD
When I attempted to open the book using the BlueFire reader on my IPAD, i got an error message saying "a valid license could not be found"
I'm frustrated beyond words right now, so I might sound a little harsh, but I'm hoping someone can help me out. I paid about an additional $100 to buy a constitutional law book that offered a "digital ebook" and so far it has been totally useless. I can't open this book on my IPAD, I can't print pages from the book, the only thing so far I can do is look at the book on my laptop. What the hell is the point of that? If I'm in a place where I can use my laptop, then I'm in a place where I can just bring along my constitutional law book. The whole point I would imagine of most people wanting the conveinence of an e-book is so that they can use it on a conveinent device, like....oh say...an EREADER or a TABLET. I personally do not know of a single person that is seriously reading books on a laptop, come on now!
I'm starting to feel like I got tricked out of $100 for a totally useless service.
Anyways, thats my rant, if anyone, anywhere has a solution to my problem, let me know, I would really, really appreciate it.

I have been using Firefox for years. When I downloaded the Firefox 20.0, I can type in my hotmail address, but my hotmail won't open.

I am able to type in the address bar, but when I hit enter, nothing happens. And I don't like using Internet Explorer. This happens when I try to acccess my hotmail account. I never had this problem with other versions of Firefox.

We are aware of issues using the address bar. A push to fix the issue will be made in 3-5 days. In the meantime since your issue is a little different that what we have you can try safe mode.
