Adjusting photos in slideshow theme

I've got a slideshow and I'm using the Sliding Panels theme. Photos seem randomly assigned to display as either a large single panel, one of four panels, a large one and three little ones... There are many templates in this theme. By shuffling the order of photos I can sometimes place specific photos in the larger space of the template. But it's really frustrating to move photos around by trial and error to get the one photo I wish would appear large to stay that way. Not to mention that changing the order of photos sometimes affects the templates many steps back in the slideshow. Is there a way to choose the specific arrangement of pictues, or is that always decided by iPhoto in some unknown algorithm based on picture size or number of faces?

There are no options to control the layout for individual photos in the newer themes. The only themes that will give you a little bit more control are the older "Classic" and "Ken Burns". But these themes will simply show your photos full frame with little animations.  So you will have to present spectacular photos to keep the interest of your audience.

  • Slideshow theme 'classic' is broken: 'scale photos to fit screen'

In Photos, the slideshow theme 'classic' offers as a 'duration setting' the box-check option 'scale photos to fit screen'.
This fit-to-screen option worked fine in iPhotos.  But in Photos it no longer works -- instead slides are surrounded *on all four sides* by a thickmargin of wasted black pixels (50+ pixels thick) ... even when the 'scale photos to fit screen' *is* checked.
QUESTION 1:  Is there any Photos theme that offers a working 'scale photos to fit screen'?
QUESTION 2:  Is there any likelihood that Photos will be fixed and/or upgraded to restore the lost fit-to-screen capability?
QUESTION 3:  Meanwhile, is there any workaround?
    The world wonders!

CChange the size of the 960x540 image very slightly. 960x540 is an anamorphic video format so the application interprets it that way and stretches the image. A couple of pixels difference in sync should do it.

  • Re-Creating Aspects of a Slideshow Theme

    Hi Everyone,
I am wanting to re-create aspects of the "Photo Edges" slideshow theme in a "Classic" slideshow.
My problem is with photo borders. I can create a border OK, but on the "Photo Edges" theme, there is a jagged inner border which I cant work out how to create.
    Any assistance greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

    Welcome to the forums.
I'm not sure which process you're using in iDVD, but I'd think about going back to iPhoto and exporting (Sharing) your slideshows as Full Quality Quicktime movies. You'll preserve the KB effects.
You can drag these movies into the menu button area of iDVD (not the drop zones) and label the buttons as you wish. All three buttons will fit on one iDVD menu.

  • Slideshow theme "Shatter" cuts off photos

I'm trying to make a slideshow in iPhoto and then eventually export it to iDVD. I'm wanting to use the theme "Shatter" however it is cutting off the photos. It seems all the other ones, except Classic, also cut part of the image. This is for a boy's soccer team. I would like something edgy and Classic is not it. Some of the images are really close so when it crops it cuts off the ball or head and no amount of cropping on my end can fix it. I've cropped images to 3x4 for TV.

Are the photos that are getting cropped portrait oriented? That theme and others are geared to landscape images so any portrait image will be cropped to some degree. Not much you can do about it.
If you're looking for a slideshow with a little snap give PhotoPresenter a try. It has over 25 animated themes many of which will not corp the images. It works seamlessly with iPhoto. You can run it in demo mode to see if it has what you're looking for.
This demo page has example of some of those themes: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes.

  • Adjusting photos in iweb

i would like to know why i can't adjust my photos once i drop them into a page in IWEB.  The editing bar at the bottom once highlighted opens up but the bar to move exposure or brightness or anything else on it does not work.  nothing happens!

What type of page are you trying to adjust photos on? Photos on photo pages or album pages can't be adjusted in iWeb. You'll need to adjust them in iPhoto before you add them to the photos page.

  • Missing slideshow themes in Aperture 3. Help.

I have Aperture 3 on both my MacBook Pro and my MacPro.  I began experimenting with slideshows today and discovered that the version of Aperture on my MacBook Pro has more slideshow themes than the version on my MacPro.  Does anyone know how that could happen?  Both are clean installs and are the same exact version and I keep both machines up to date with Apple Software Update.
At this point I am wondering if there is a way for me to find the themes in Finder and just copy them and put them on my MacPro?  OR is there something that I am missing??
The themes on my MacPro are as follows:
    Classic
    Ken Burns
    Photo Edges
    Scrapbook
    Shatter
    Sliding Panels
    Snapshots
    Watercolor Panels
The themes on my MacBook Pro are as follows:
    Classic
    Ken Burns
    Photo Edges
    Scrapbook
    Shatter
    Sliding Panels
    Snapshots
    Watercolor Panels
    Holiday Mobile
    Origami
    Photo Mobile
    Places
    Reflections
    Scrapbook
    Vintage Prints
If anyone can shed some light on this for me I'd be grateful.  Thanks in advance!
    Cheers!

Ahh!  I was thinking that that may be the case.  Thanks!!
I never upgraded iLife on my MacPro because I hated the way the new version dealt with photos in email.  Also hated that when I hover an event and found the image I was looking for and double-clicked on it, I would have to re-hunt the image down all over again when it opened the event.  The old version of iLife/iPhoto (which I'm still using on my MacPro) highlights the image once the event is opened, making it so easy to find.
Anyway, don't mean to go on about my woes with that.  I guess what I would LOVE to do now is be able eo move over the themes from my MBP to My MP.  Do you (or anyone) know if the themes are modular and can be copied and used on another machine that does not have iLife 11?
    Thanks! Great sleuthing!
    Cheers!

  • Upload pictures and retain adjusted photo date

After scanning a number of old photos, I upload them onto my MAC PC and I adjusted the photo date and time via the batch change function. I then exported the photos from iPhoto and transferred them onto another Mac PC and upload them into iPhoto on that PC. The photos did not retain the modified date on the upload, but rather show the date on which they were scanned.
Is there any way to transfer photos between iPhoto libraries (on different PCs) and maintain the adjusted date and time of the photo?

    Unfortunately no.
This data is recorded in the Exif metadata that is created when a Camera takes a photo. However, scanners so not create Exif and so there is nowhere for this data to be written to. Therefore, applications that can't access the Exif use the Date Created info from the file.
You may be able to change the Date Created info on the File using an app like
    http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderAttributes/
but beware: don't run this in files already in iPhoto, only before importing or after export.

  • Is there a way to remove the autoformatting of the "Places" slideshow theme?

The Places slideshow theme in Aperture is a great one for what I want to do; however, it automatically formats the slides where it will place two or three images per slide.  I'd like to have only one image per slide.  Is there a way to remove or adjust the autoformatting of this theme to have only one image per slide?  If not, do you know of a way to add a map to any of the other slideshow themes?  Thanks for the help!

  • Export photos FROM slideshow?

Can I create an album FROM a slideshow?
I created Album A (tons of photos) and slideshow A. I duplicated slideshow A and deleted all the photos I didn't want to include, that became slideshow B. Now I need to export the photos from slideshow B into a format I can burn to disc - photos, NOT the slideshow itself. Can I do this without having to recreate the wheel, and have to pick out the photos I want one by one in a new album? Thanks!

There is an easy way to keyword those photos so you can group them for exporting to the desktop.
1 - in the slideshow double click on the first photo to bring up the edit window.
2 - type Command+K to bring up the keyword pane
3 - assign a unique keyword, "xxxx", created for this process to the photo.
4 - hit the forward arrow key on the keyboard.
5 - assign the keyword to the next photo. Repeat until all photos have been keyworded.
6 - create a smart album: keyword is "xxxx".
7 - export the photos from the smart album.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Photoshop Elements 13 slideshow themes are very limited and unconfigurable

I have upgraded from PSE 11 to 13. The slideshow themes are very constrained and unconfigurable.  Is there a plan to enable PSE 12 type features or add more themes - or allow users to build themes?

I have also just upgraded to PSE 13. One of the improvements that I was looking for was higher quality video output for slideshows (in PSE 10 the options were extremely limited).  Indeed, the output quality is better, but the "Themes" are woefully inadequate. I just want a simple (ie no pan & slide) slideshow, but one that allows me to change the display time by photo.
To get round the previous limitations of PSE. I have been using Magix PhotoStory.  It does everything I want plus a whole lot more.....

I just imported 70 photos successfully, edited them, and then attempted to upload them to a Facebook album.  It did not work and got hung up, so I force quit IPhoto and was going to try again.  The 70 photos have DISAPPEARED!!  Help !!!!

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How do i get more slideshow themes in iphoto 09

i would like add more slideshow themes or possible create my own. how do i do this.
    thanks in advance.

    You can't, I'm afraid.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
    iMovie, on every Mac sold.
Others, in order of price: PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Express  $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • Can you edit a person from one photo and add them to another photo?

Can you edit a person out of one photo and add them to another photo?  Like if you need the head shot from one photo to replace closed eyes in the other photo?  Thanks.

Thank you very much!  Does this require software to be purchased?  I'm new to Photoshop.

    Welcome to the forum.
Yes, this is done often. You will need to create a Mask of that person, to separate them from the background of the original Image.
I like to do this with a Layer Mask, as it offers control, and really does not alter the Image, so you can go back and make changes.
Let's say that you have Image 01 w/ the head of your subject, and want to place it into Image 02. In Image 01, make a rough Selection. I would include a bit of extra background, as we will take care of that in a moment. With that Selection active, Copy the head shot. Go to Image 02, and Paste it. It will Paste in its own Layer. Ctrl+T (Free Transform) can be used to Scale and also position that Layer with the head. Once you have that Scaled and positioned about where you want it, create a Layer Mask. In QuickMask Mode, just paint in the additional Mask to remove all traces of the background that came in with the head shot. As you can paint OUT, and also paint IN the Mask, you can work on this, as many times as you wish - even next year.
For getting that Layer Mask looking good, work slowly, also see this http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/l/blrbps_5agirl.htm.
I've got another tutorial, that addresses the hair area, and will post that, when I find my bookmark.
    Good luck,
