Admin password.....can it be reset?

I have an iMac that we recently put a password on.  My husband also thought to try out the parental controls to deter our 4 children from spending so much time on the computer.  Now that we see what it does and want to remove it (because the PC is on our profile....), we require an administrator password which neither of us can remember.  Does anyone know how to reset the password?  Please!

Please carefully read:

  • VM Template bypass Local Admin Password, can it be done?

I was curious to know if there was a way to create a VM from Template in VMM without having to supply a password in the OS Configuration properties? I know that if we leave that field blank normally, when the VM creation occurs, it will get to about 98%
and hang. When you "Connect via Console" option, it is sitting at the screen asking you to supply a password, then the installation finishes, and the VM is ready to go. We are trying to set up VM Templates in SCVMM 2012 R2 that are going to be more
or less a user self-service situation. We have several powershell scripts that automate nearly 100% of our admin tasks for us, and in the VM Template, there is a simple batch file that copies down a directory, and launches a script and away it goes. After
10-15 minutes, the Hyper-V VM is joined to our domain, page file virtual memory is set based on specs of VM, WSUS is connected and all updates applied since template creation, etc etc etc...
Our goal is to have the server log on after creation from a template, run the bat file on the D:\ drive, and go completely untouched from start to finish. The Local Administrator account is renamed and given a new password as part of the setup postload scripts.
But the only way to get the VM to do this is by putting in an initial password in the properties of the VM. How can we create a VM from template without supplying any password? So that once SCVMM creates the powered off VM, the person who created the VM powers
it on, and then after their 15 minute break, have a server joined to the domain and ready for them to log into.

Thank you for the reply, I appreciate it.
I wasn't as clear as I should have been, reading over the initial post I see that now. We have these set up as Service Templates. There is a hardcoded Admin password already supplied in the Machine Tier properties so it does allow from start to creation
a VM. But then none of the scripts we have set under the "Run Once" property of the configuration will run until an initial logon is provided, then the scripts kick off, the VM reboots twice and 15 minutes later....voila! Server ready to go. It was that initial
logon we were wondering about bypassing.
The basic process goes as such:
    1) Service Template launched with "Deploy" option in App Controller or SCVMM
    2) VM Guest syspreps from Machine Tier VM Template and configuration, a local admin password is provided, and VM powers on when complete.
    3) VM Guest stays powered on until local admin hits cntrl+alt+del, provides local admin password
    4) Run Once configuration kicks in, reads the "Auto_script.bat" file from root of D:
    5) Scripts join VM Guest to domain, uses domain credentials, runs a whole series of tasks, removes the domain credentials, reboots server.
    6) Server is now ready for customer to log on to and use, fully updated, on the domain, based on service template used also with the appropriate roles and features configured (File Server, IIS, etc).
It's that step 3 we are hoping to get around somehow with scripts or whatever so that when the VM guest is powered on after creation, something other than the end user or us cntrl+alt+del the OS, logs on with admin password and fully automated deployment
    occurs from A-Z

  • Master Password- can it be reset?

I've got my g4 up for sale and I don't want to sell it unless everything is accessable to the new owner.
I don't recall the M.S. on my computer and to be honest, I don't recall ever setting the M.S, however it IS set along w/ a hint, $$$!,(I'm not even a $$$! type of girl!) and I'm clueless. If anybody knows anything on this, the things not locked, I just need it to be sellable, maybe if I bring it 2 the Apple store? eBay count down of 2 days to figure this out. Yikes! Thanks in advance for any advice on this query!
    pb g4 15" alum   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you're going to sell the computer, it's best to completely reinstall Mac OS using the installation media that came with the Mac. This will remove any lingering information about yourself from the computer. It would be a good idea to erase the hard drive using Disk Utility (from the install media) first. Both of these tasks can be done without knowing the master password.
You should also give those original install discs to the buyer once its sold.
Here's an example of why it's a good idea to erase and reinstall: I bought a PC laptop from someone in the mid 90s. It was not reinstalled first. It had lots of her documents and personal e-mails on it. The web browser history had a good deal of information about her browsing habits, and the browser cache contained some bank account information.
Deleting files and telling the browser to clean itself does not destroy this type of information. Erasing the hard drive and reinstalling OS X will do it. The "Zero Out Data" option in Disk Utility (select the drive, click Erase, then click Security Options) should be good enough, but if you have some time to spare, the "7-Pass Erase" option will make it nearly impossible for anyone to see your data. How long this takes depends on the speed and size of your hard drive, but if you started it before going to bed, it should be done in the morning. Remember that you'll need to boot from the install disc to do this.

  • I can't remember my username password, can it be reset somehow?

    Help!

Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive. When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Just press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password.

  • Reset admin password - SJSWS 7u8

    Hi,
I've read through the documentation and a few of the other posts about resetting the admin password in SJSWS. Plainly, it doesn't work
    [root@server bin]# ./wadm reset-admin-password --user admin --host localhost --port 8989
    Please enter admin-password>
    Please enter admin-password again>
CLI103 Command 'reset-admin-password' failed. :: netscape.ldap.LDAPRebindI've not been able to find any matches to the 'netscape.ldap.LDAPRebind' error, and don't know why it's talking about ldap in the first place (as SJSWS isn't attached to any LDAP).
The local machine (RHEL5.5, Linux x86_64, amd64 SJSWS install) does use LDAP for authentication, but it shouldn't be trying to touch that.
I can't find any further log entries for the failed password change either.
This is the administration console, with one other node hanging off of it.
    [root@server bin]# . ../lib/wsenv ; $WS_JAVA/bin/java -version
    java version "1.6.0_19"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_19-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.2-b04, mixed mode)Any ideas would be welcome ;)

    Unfortunately you've run into a known problem - 6914493.
Edit $(INSTALL_ROOT)/bin/wadm and add ${classpath_prefix}/ldapjdk.jar to the classpath variable and try re-running the command.

  • How do i reset my laptops permission without resetting my admin password?

Listen, I have a school laptop and ofcoarse they have put their own tweaked operating system on their that blocks me from accessing different parts of my laptop and opening any third party apps. As any mac person like myself I have worked my way around the permissions by using a 'ksadmin' file in a particular MacOS folder. You would think now that I have worked this out why would I need to reset my permissions. Well it's because I cannot drag anything into the applications folder and there are some games and files that the 'ksadmin' will not run. The purpose of the 'ksadmin' file is to trick the containing folder that I am actually an administartior of this laptop. So could someone please tell me how to reset my permissions without resetting the admin password. If i reset the admin pasword (I have before) they will find out!
    Thanks
    Daniel

Then, I'd give it back to them and insist on one with the factory-provided OS. Barring that, put a bootable backup/clone onto an ext HD, boot into recovery mode, wipe the drive, and restore the OS. That will be Apple's nonbutchered OS. Then, on first boot use the Setup Assistant to migrate from the backup/clone.

Resetting User Password in Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks
Boot into your Recovery Partition by holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting.
When the Recovery screen appears, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
    In Terminal, type:
    resetpassword
...a small app will open and allow you to choose the user for whom you want to change the password. If you are the admin, be certain that you choose your admin user. Type in your new password twice and give yourself a good hint. Click OK (or Done or whatever) and reboot, enjoying the use of your new, hopefully memorable, password.
    Good luck,

  • Removing admin password form Access 2003 database front end and back end

We have a legacy database that has been passed down from the original creator, who is no longer with the organization. It was created in Access 2003. It has a front end and a back end. The original admin password can not be located and we are in the process
of upgrading this application to 2010.  Is there a way to remove that password so we can make changes to the original files?

    Hi,
What password are you talking about, the one created with the workgroup manager? That will be difficult since 2010 doesn't have the workgroup manager anymore. You can still use the database in the 2010 environment but you can't make any changes to the original
    database without the password.

  • Can anyone help.  For security reasons I reset my admin password on my Macbook Pro a few days ago and didn't write it down.  Now I've forgotten it.  I didnt receive an installation disc when I purchased my Macbook Pro online - it didn't come with one-help

Please see question above, but also note, I have the Applecare Protection Plan but am unable to get through to anyone on a weekend and I desperately need to use my laptop this weekend.  I can't log in at all now as I've forgotten my admin password.  A few weeks ago I also changed the password on my husband's new MacBook Pro and again forgot the password.  I spoke to someone at Apple and they helped me to reset it within minutes, by restarting the computer holding Command+something else (I can't remember what it was). A black screen with writing came up and I had to type in something like "password" (not sure exactly).  Anyway, this was a very quick and efficient process but I didn't write it down unfortunately.  Does anyone out there know what to do?  Thanks in anticipation

  • How do i reset admin password. no disc but system automativally logs me in as administrator and can access root user mode

I recenly got this macbook, MA&00LL/A, max OS X, V:10.4.11, 2GHz IntelCore 2 duo, 2GHz, When I power up it automatically logs me on as administrator but prompts for password when I try to access/change certain features.  I got the macbook from my cousin who has forgot password and has lost disc.  I can access root user mode but as iam unfamiliar with apple I am hesitant to delete anything without making things worse. Is their anyway I can reset this admin password without the disc or simply delete this user and reconfigure system as myself as administrator. step by step instructions would be appreciated at this stage till i familiarize myself more.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  If it came down to buying a disc, how much roughly do these cost???  thanks again

If you don't have your install disks you can get the 10.4 gray disks by calling Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 They can send them to you for about $16 per disk plus S & H. Just give them your serial number and they'll know which ones you need.
To find your serial number go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info, the System Profiler will then come up. The Serial Number (System) is down near the bottom of the Hardware Overview list.
If you don't have your install disc handy, then follow these steps
    1. Start up in single-user mode (hold Command-S as thecomputer starts up).
    2. Type: mount -uw /
    3. Press Return.
    4. Type this: passwd (user's short name) Replace "(user's shortname)" with the short name of the user account whose password you wish to reset. If you are not sure what the account name is, you can get a list of usernames by typing: ls /Users
    5. Press Return.
    6. Enter a new user password.
    7. Press Return.
    8. Type: reboot
    9. Press Return.
