Adobe Acrobat 8 Prof - PDFs will not open in Adobe automatically

I have a workstation that has Adobe Acrobat 8 professional installed. I was first notified that the user complained that each time he opened a PDF in an Email, it would open in Explorer. I had him save a document to his c; drive and did a view file type. In that listing, there was no Adobe professional listed. I attempted to browse to the adobe.exe file but each time, it would default back to explorer, even if I checked the box for it to default to the adobe.exe file that I browsed to. I also noted that adobe never became an application in that listing.
We uninstalled adobe and reinstalled it. Still not successful. We ended up installing Adobe Reader, but the user wants it to open in Adobe Professional. I know that he can save the document then open it with Adobe profesional, but this is an extra step and he would like to be able to just double click on the file and open into Adobe Professional.
What do I need to do to make this work?
Thanks in advance.

QUOTE>>>To clarify, you would need to first check to see if the PDF extension is set to open (screenshot.20). THIS IS THE AREA THAT PDF IS NOT IN.
If it is not set to open with Acrobat <your version here> (screenshot.21), then you will need to manually tell the computer what program to use.  This is where it becomes important to know the filename you are looking for. Adobe is a company; Acrobat is a program. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I TRIED TO DO AND OF COURSE I KNOWN I USED THE WRONG NAME / WORD HERE BUT I WAS LOOKING FOR THE CORRECT FILE. WHEN I CHOSE THE ACROBAT.EXE FILE IT WOULD STILL OPEN IN INTERNET EXPLORER.
I have a different version than you do, but as an example, my program is located here: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe I'M IN THE RIGHT AREA AND GOT THE RIGHT FILE NAME. THIS IS NOT THE ISSUE.
Can we get off the wrong word use and get back to a solution please. I am in the right folder c:\program files\adobe\acrobat 8.0\acrobat.exe and I am browsing for ACROBAT.exe (not ADOBE.exe - again wrong word in my first discussion)
Bad day, sorry!

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro X will not open PDFs

    Hello,
My Adobe Acrobat Pro X will not open PDFs.  This happens twice a month and is becoming extremely irritating.  I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, repairing and a system restore.  What can I do to make this problem go away?
    Thank you.

To check that it is an Acrobat problem, open Acrobat from the programs list and try to open a PDF from the file menu. I suspect this will work fine from what I read into your post. I suspect that somehow your OS is changing file associations. In that case, right click on a PDF and select Open With>Select Default Program and then select Acrobat. Be sure the check box for default program has been checked.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro will not open in Windows 8

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro will not open in Windows 8. It worked until 2 days ago, now it won't do anything. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it with no luck.

32 or 64 bit system? Have you updated Acrobat? Was anything else installed between when it worked and did not? When you say AA 9 will not open, does that mean when you have selected it in the programs list (OK, that is the metro interface if you have not installed the desktop options -- 3rd party)?

  • Adobe Reader 9.3 will not open in Adobe Acrobat Pro 8

We are currently running Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional Version 8.2.0 with Acrobat Distiller 8 and Adobe Live Cycle Disigner 8.0. I have downloaded Adobe Reader 9.3, but it still will not open 9.3 documents it defaults to the Reader 8 and I get an error message.
How do I change the default Reader to 9.3 or do I have to buy the upgrade for Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 in order to be able to open and use on-line forms that require 9.3?
    Help!

Well that is my question, we have a fully authorized and purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro
    8.
When I do an update for Adobe Acrobat 8, it does not install the updated Reader 9.3.
In order to update the Reader to 9.3, I have to install it seperately. It does that, but when I open 9.3 it defaults to the 8 Reader.
So I guess the answer to my question is that I have to update to the 9.3 full version of Adobe Acrobat Pro, what a rip by Adobe just so we can use the newest "free" Reader.

  • Adobe acrobat  dc app will not open [iOS]

Adobe Acrobat app will not open on iPad. Tried downloading another app and will not allow transfer from file sharing section in itunes

We've heard from many users that the desktop iTunes app often fails to copy files for some reasons.
You may find answers in the Apple Support site.
iPad - iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support
Have you tried other desktop File Browser apps (such as iExplorer, iFunBox) instead of iTunes?   For example, you can use iExplorer in the free demo mode for file system access.  Other users had successfully copied files from/to iPad/iPhone using it.
Please give it a try and let us know if it works for you.

  • I have a Mac and I have downloaded the most recent Adobe Acrobat, but files will not open.  Any suggestions?

I have a Mac and downloaded the most recent Adobe Acrobat version, in order to open PDF's on a site I use.  They changed something recently and advised everyone to get up to date, which I did, but to no avail.  I keep getting a "waiting" message. I have used the Safari "develop" menu to simulate Internet Explorer, but with no luck.
    Any suggestions?

    Please wait...

  • Photoshop CS6 PDFs will not open in Adobe Acrobat

    Photoshop CS6; Windows 8
I've been using Photoshop to create reduced size PDFs. I've never had a problem with CS6 until the passed week. When I click to save for PDF no "error" dialogue box appears. However, when I try to open the new file in Adobe Acrobat reader a dialogue box says "Out of memory". Also, in my windows explorer, the file shows up as just a white box in the "Preview" side panel.
What am I not doing correctly all of a sudden? I've been sticking with the same preferences and Save settings since I first started using Photoshop CS5.

Have you updated Acrobat/ Adobe Reader recently? If so, this update may have introduced a compatibility issue in the globally shared Adobe PDF libraries. Either that or the update never went through properly and now you have a botched Acrobat. Do otehr PDFs from different sources open? If not, that would be a strong hint that you may need to reinstall/ repair Acrobat. It's also possible that you may have enabled sandboxing in the Acrobat Security prefs (or an update did) and thus Acrobat refuses to open certain files, if it can't determine their origins. One more thing that comes to mind: Have you tried saving the file twice in a row under the same name? Sometimes this stuff happens too fast (on SSD drives and such) and Windows doesn't update file security info in time (or your virus scanner can't keep up) and the resulting file is useless. Overwriting it with the same file would then yield correct results.

  • Pdfs will not open in Adobe Reader 10.1.0 with os 10.6.8

I have an iMac, Snow Leopard v. 10.6.8 and Adobe REader 10.1. When I click on a pdf to open, all I get is the QuickTime icon, which opens the 1st page only, but when I try to print even that page, it is blank.
I have tried dumping the AdobePDFViewer plugin from the Internet Plug Ins as indicated below, to no avail.
    [file://localhost/Library/Internet%20Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin/]
This has been SOOOOO frustrating. When I called Adobe, they want to charge me $39.99 to talk to a technician! Since their download for the Reader is "free," I find it objectionable, to say the least, that they have the audacity to want to charge me on a "free" application program!
I'm ready to change to an alternative Reader, if their is such a thing, if anyone out there has a suggestion for that kind of program. I would really like to solve the mystery of why my Adobe pdfs won't open, however. This problem has been going on for about 2 weeks now, since August 7th.
    Thanks.

Select a PDF file, CMD+I, check the Open With section, and ensure that AR is selected. If not, then select it and click on the Change All button. Alternatively, select Preview, which is my default PDF reader.

  • CS3 - Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro will not open

My computer crashed and I had to rebuild it.  I am reinstalling all programs on new hard drive.  Photoshop CS3 opens. And I have registered it...again.  I cannot get Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro to open.  It came with CS3.  I have been using it for a few years.  Can you help?

first, clean out all traces of acrobat 8 pro (win):  http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/manually-remove-acrobat-8-windows.html
                                                                      (mac): http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/manually-remove-cs2-mac-osx.html
then re-install.  do you have a good install disc or download?

  • I downloaded Adobe acrobat and it will not open on my mac - any suggestions?

I am new to the cloud and downloaded acrobat - which on my old computer I owned a copy - and can not get this to version to open.  Am I suppose to go thru an app to access it? This is real drag - you download something because you need it right away and than it does not work.  Any suggestions would be so helpful - Thanks.

Delete the app then reinstall. You do not have to re purchase. Press and hold down the app until it jiggles then tap the circle with an x then tap Delete.
Then tap the App Store icon... re download the game.
If you continue to have problems, look for contact information on the developers site.

I cannot open this program.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for your quick reply.  Looks like Adobe was searching for the XP version of Windows.  I did get this fixed as of today.
    Thanks again!

  • I have Adobe Design CS6, suddenly a simple PDF will not open. Noting happens when I doubleclick either the file or try to open Adobe Acrobat X Pro

I have Adobe Design CS6, suddenly a simple PDF will not open. Noting happens when I doubleclick either the file or try to open Adobe Acrobat X Pro ?

Hi Jenny, I just had to do that, for the 3rd time. It is a pity though when one pays for such expensive software that this happens, specifically when the only Adobe help is to tell you to post your problem on a forum and hope someone can help you. Not good enough and not what I expected when I bought it. I am so disappointed in Adobe.

  • When I try to open a PDF downloaded from Adobe DC I get an error message:Adobe Acrobat Reader DC could not open 'nrneph.2015.33.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email

When I try to download a PDF from Adobe DC, I get an error message: "Adobe Acrobat Reader DC could not open 'nrneph.2015.33.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)"
I am using a Macbook Pro, OSX 10.9.5, Safari browser. Previous versions of Adobe Acrobat have worked fine for years.

What's the name of the file you are attempting to open?  Is it "ScreenFlow_4.5.2.dmg"?  If it is the correct name then the message is correct and you are attempting to open a file with DMG files extension and not one with a PDF file extension.  Adobe Reader opens PDF files an not any other file type.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro do not open when printing a pdf document. Can anyone help?

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro do not open when printing a pdf document, instead I open it with Adobe Reader X to be able to print.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Edna,
It sounds like Adobe Reader X is your default PDF file handler. Launch Adobe Reader X.  Choose Edit > Preferences > General.  Click the 'Select Default PDF Handler' button at the bottom and choose Acrobat 9 from the drop-down menu.  Click Apply, then OK.
Restart your computer.  Acrobat 9 should now be your default PDF file handler again.
