Adobe Acrobat Distiller 8.3

Hello,
When converting pdf files from Acrobat 8.0 (1.7) to Acrobat 4.0 (1.3) my sticky notes and comments are removed. Is this normal behavior or I do I need to select something in the distiller settings? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got the same problem as Mats:
While adding a new PDF profile into Distiller a "general parser failure" stops the routine.
But changing the decimal separator unfortunately does not solve the problem.
Are there any other solutions for this problem?
I'm working with Windows Vista and Distiller 8.1.3.

Adobe Acrobat Distiller not correctly installed

Adobe Acrobat 9.0.0, OS 01.5.4
When I try to print from "Tex-Edit Plus.app 4.9.8" using the
Adobe PDF 9.0 printer I get a request to find "Adobe Acrobat
Distiller".
I'm then given a window to select from but "Acrobat
Distiller.app" is grayed out, NOTE different name.
I have run the "Repair" function.

There are many different Acrobat-related products.
Acrobat Standard
Acrobat Pro
Adobe Reader
LiveCycle (actually this is another separate enterprise oriented Acrobat family of products.
Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro will each install several software programs on your computer. One of which is Acrobat Distiller. Acrobat Distiller is a program that is used to convert postscript files into pdf files. Acrobat Distiller used to be the only way to create postscript files. Now many users never use Distiller to create pdf files, hence its prominence is deminished.

What is Adobe Acrobat Distiller and how do I download a trial version.

I need a PDF creator/ Convertor for Microsoft Publisher files. Files are then to be sent to commercial printer. Although I can save the file as pdf from within Microsoft Publisher but sometimes there are problems with the Output, transparencies and PNG images. I saw a guide about commercial printing on the web where Adobe Acrobat distiller 3.0 was recommended for commercial printing. I have browsed Adobe website but could't find. Is it part of Acrobat 9 or so?
Any advice will be helpful.

Yes, Distiller is part of Acrobat and not free. Download the trial and then decide whether it's worth buying for your purposes...

Adobe Acrobat Distiller Process. Issue with Font(L0420P not found, using courier)

Hi Everybody,
We are working for upgrade activities, which involves moving applications from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 Servers.
My applications uses Adobe Acrobat distiller, which is also getting upgraded along with the server from Adobe 4.0 to 5.0 (Installed licensed Adobe distiller).
I have been using Adobe distiller to convert .PS files into .PDF files. The conversion process requires the PSFonts such as (MB006, L0B, L0420P etc..), each font got a separate PFB and PFM extension files, which are kept in the folder name called "Psfonts" and has been included in "Font location" under Distiller settings.
Using Distiller( Adobe Acrobat distiller 4.0 ) in Windows 2000 didn't create any issues or error while converting .PS files into .PDF files, all the PDF files are generated by Distiller as expected and process without any Font issues.
In Windows Server 2003, I installed Adobe Acrobat distiller 5.0 and moved the Font Folder "Psfonts" from older server(Windows 2000 server) to the new server(Windows 2003) and started Adobe Acrobat distiller process(5.0) to convert .PS to .PDF, most of the .PS files gets converted into .PDF files but when .PS files which require the Font L0420P comes in for Distilling, it displays an error message as "L0420P not found, using courier".
I checked with the old Server's (Windows 2000) font folder (Psfonts), it has the same files(PFB and PFM) as present in the new Server(Windows 2003).
I tried to check the Particular Font name(L0420P) in Distiller-->Setting-->Job options-->Font-->Embedding-->Psfonts, but L0420P font alone is missing in the List.
Could you please help in resolving this Font issue.

You may like to try deleting the PsFonts entry from distiller and closing it. Restart the machine, make the entry of PSFonts agina and try creating PDF.

Adobe Acrobat Distiller 9 Problems

Hi,
New to the forum - hopefully someone can help me out. I have also tried the Adobe Forums, Quark Forums etc. etc. with no result - all are blaming Apple - so here I am. (Mod's please move this thread if it isn't in the right place).
Specs first - Quark 8.12, Suitcase Fusion 13.2.1, Acrobat Distiller 9.2.0, Mac OSX 10.5.8.
When I create pdfs from Quark (Indesign etc.) - I print them through the print dialogue box (using the acrobat PPD) - save them - and it prints like if it were going to a printer (output device) but creates a pdf. This is the way I have always done it and the way I want to continue to do it.
What I am experiencing is that even though I have specified create "Low Resolution" or "Standard Resolution" pdfs it outputs/saves them as "High Resolution" Pdfs.
The other day it was the opposite I specified "High" and it save a "Low Resolution" pdf.
The high resolution pdfs seem to be extremely large also. Previously in Acrobat Distiller 7 a high resolution pdf file of one particular document I have was 50Mb in size, the same document distilled in Acrobat Distiller 9 gives my a 250Mb pdf file!!
I am also experiencing unwanted rotation of pages with the pdf creation ie a landscape page is distilled (rotate) to a portrait page.
I have tried deleting settings, creating new documents and pasting the information in, pdfing on other computers all with the same results.
What I have found is that if I just use the default acrobat settings - standard, small, high quality etc. the files pdf fine and have expected file sizes etc.
But as soon as I make a custom setting in distiller or use a 3rd party acrobat setting that's when the problem/s occur - large file sizes, rotated pages etc.
What is also weird is if I turn "auto rotate pages" to "off" in acrobat distiller it will rotate the pages (a landscape but distills it to portrait) but if I choose one of the other settings like "individually" it pdfs OK in the right orientation.
Anybody have any ideas of why Distiller (or whatever) freaks out when I change the settings?? (creates massive pdf files, rotates pages etc) I need to be able to make custom distiller settings for various newspapers, magazines etc.
So just to recapp:
Default Acrobat Distiller settings work but custom or 3rd party settings do not work in Acrobat Distiller. Nor do they "Stick/Stay" in the drop down menu when you select them like the default settings do - the menu defaults back to "default".
I have upgraded to 9.2.0 - reset the printers - Uninstalled the software and reinstalled it all with the same result.
Doesn't matter if I make a PS file etc and drop it onto distiller - still get the same outcome.

Got Distiller to work. Seems the problem was with software activation/licensing. I got different software - and a free update to Acrobat 9 Extended - from my merchant and installed it. Distiller now does not crash anymore when starting it up and appears (thus far) stable.
However, I still get an error message at start up:
Adobe PostScript software version: 3018.101
Adobe PDF Settings file read error in PDFX4 2008.joboptions:
/CheckCompliance out of range
A quick web search shows that this is also not a new problem. Some say that Distiller is not able to create PDF/X4 files and that the error is thus a bug in Distiller itself. Is that true? (I can't find a joboptions file of that name in my system ...)
Do I need to do anything about it or can I just leave it?

Adobe Acrobat Distiller 9 crashes on start

I recently bought a new notebook with Intel Pentium dual-core processor T3400 and Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
This weekend, I have been installing some software, including Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended.
Actually, I bought Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro just for having Acrobat Distiller (not: Distiller Server), to use in book publishing with Corel Ventura 10 and PostScript. The version I got is Acrobat Distiller 9.
However, when I now start up Acrobat Distiller 9 it shows up for one or two seconds and then crashes (just vanishes from the screen without an error message).
I found the same problem described for earlier versions of Distiller (in XP and Mac) in various online fora, but thus far I have not seen a solution described anywhere.
It seems to be a common (and long-standing) problem, certainly there must be a fix?
(I already uninstalled an reinstalled Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and also tried "Repair Acrobat Installation" under "Help" in the programme. To no avail.)

Adobe Acrobat Distiller DC crash on the stage of fonts verification

After installation Adobe Acrobat DC v.2015.007.20033 i get a problem with Adobe Distiller DC...Distiller is not run properly...after run distiller the program get an error in the stage of fonts verification...
why? how to resolve this problem?

Adobe Acrobat Distiller Prints every second page blank

Running Windows Vista with Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.1. When the user converts web base html document ( IE 8) to PDF in Legal format we end up with every second page bank or the footer over printing. We have changed the header/footer settings in Acrobat and under print properties to no avail. Other cleared cache reset IE users have exactly the same Vista image and install of Acrobat Pro and it is not an issue.

From Indesign3 postscript file to Adobe Acrobat distiller PDF?

i'm trying to prepare a book file created in InDesign 3 to go directly to a printer. I created a Postscript file using the Printer's specs. When i converted the file to a pdf in Acrobat 8 and check to make sure all the fonts are embedded, about half are and half aren't. All the fonts i used, (like Georgia bold) are on my system but it doesn't show up as embedded. I'm stuck and have no idea how to embed all the fonts in InDesign or in Acrobat.

The major advantages to exporting PDF for print are that you can leave transparency live in the PDF for flattening in the RIP, and all fonts with proper permissions (except CJK) will be embedded automatically.
If your printer insists on a distilled PDF, possibly because he is using older equipment that can't handle transparency correctly, or worse, he's imposing in Quark, you can save some headaches by printing to PDF directly from ID. If you have Distiller, you probably have the PDF virtual printer installed, too. It's really just an automated way of printing to file and sending to distiller, but the interface is a bit friendlier, and it's one step instead of two.
In the print dialog select Adobe PDF as the printer, then click setup and find the printer properties or preferences (the dialogs are a little different, I think, on Mac and PC). You should be able there to set the joboptions to the printer's custom set, or edit them if necessary to be sure all the fonts are embedded.

Embedding Fonts in Adobe Acrobat Distiller 6.0

I am generating PDF's on a file server using Adobe Distiller 6.0
I need to display some text using the barcode39 font.
However, when i view the completed pdf, the only place i can see the actual barcode image is on the server or a computer that has the barcode39 font installed on it.
I need a way to show the font, inside the pdf, regardless of whether or not the host computer has the barcode font installed or not.
Can anyone please show me how to accomplish this using Adobe distiller 6.0

The font embedding is included in the job.settings file. However, unless you have some special license with Adobe, the use of Distiller on a server has been explicitly forbidden since version 4. That is a major reason for many of the other online converters that have been developed. Read your license carefully. I suspect that your question is irrelevant once you have looked at the license agreement.

Computer does not recognise Adobe Acrobat/Distiller and cannot Pdf

I recently installed a new version of Adobe creative suite 4, just as an unregistered trial, but I found that my computer could not handle the programs, and began to crash any time I attempted to create a pdf.
So I uninstalled just the Acrobat part of the package, hoping that I would still be able to use my old Adobe 5 to Pdf from Autodesk CAD.
However now that I have uninstalled, I still cannot Pdf. And moreover, my computer no longer automatically recognises Adobe 5 as the default program for opening Pdf's, it makes me select the program from a list.
Is there any way to fix this? Would uninstalling and reinstalling help? Pdfing from CAD is essential to my work.

The simplest way is to just do a repair (Control Panel>Add Remove Programs ...). For AA5, it will likely show up at change and remove. Select the change and you should be able to fix things. If that does not work, then uninstall, remove the Acrobat 5 folder, and use the MS Cleanup Tool. Then reboot and install. Acrobat and Reader are such that if you install more than one version, uninstalling any will most likely break all others -- exactly your problem. The association problem can be fixed with Windows explorer, but other things may also be broken that make a repair or reinstall a good idea.

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Customizing and General help

I'm trying to set-up Adobe 9 Pro so that when you select "Print" or "Print to PDF" that the application automatically defaults to a Specified location and a Specified name as (Date)+(Time).pdf. Currently it prompts you to specify the location and the name, but I can change the default location pretty easily. I have even looked in the Adobe Customization Wizard and under the Adobe PDF printer it has options for "Default PDF Output Folder" and "Adobe PDF Output Folder" - which says in the box "Prompt for Adobe PDF filename" and when you select the drop down box it only has "<Default PDF Output Folder>" with no way of editing the name. Does anyone know how I can set this up? Default Path to whatever I need it to be. And to have the name of the .pdf automatically assigned the name of the current Date and Time.

Just for your information, it is also possible to change the output folder to your own folder of the Adobe PDF printer without modifying the printer settings. Copy the following lines to notepad, correct the path C:\\DocOut to your path and save it as Acro8_OutputFolder.reg and double-click on it.
So you can change the output folder of the Adobe PDF printer via registry.
