Adobe CS3 and CS4 updater under Snow Leopard issues

Hey everyone -Ive been trying to research this and I have CS4 and CS3 (just photoshop installed) under snow leopard -(clean install) and when I launch the adobe updater on CS3 it just crashes-and on CS4 the updater runs but finds no updates and I know they are out there.
This is all I could find on Adobes Forumns
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2349031#2349031
They talk about changing the permissions of the admin group but you have to be careful or you will mess your machine up -I dont wanna do that.
Is anyone having this problem? Or can anyone help
Matt

You might try creating another user account (testUser) and seeing if those installers will function properly there, under a clean account...

  • Photoshop cs3 and cs4 brush lag /snow leopard 10.6.6

Having occasional brush lag using these apps. Not due to wacom, does same with mouse. Discussions going on at adobe forums. I have ATI 5770 in mac pro 2.8 quad. Don't want to update to 10.6.7 due to font/pdf issues. Spoke to apple person, who couldn't say if the new update had specific fixes for graphics drivers. Anyone having same problems?

?Did you have a PowerMac before, and did you use the Migration Assistant?
How about some normal good system maintenance?
CS3 on a Mac Pro running SL may or may not work the best on mid-2010 Mac Pro.
Your mac by default was set to boot into 64-bit kernel mode. I assume you switched to 32-bit.
How about RAM and storage setup? disabled Spotlight and moved primary scratch to non-system drive?
To elimiate any confusion, change the "PowerMac" to what you have, a Mid-2010.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Crashing under Snow Leopard

I am having issues with Dreamweaver CS4 and Snow Leopard. Dreamweaver application opens fine, however, when I try to make edits to code on an HTML page, the program crashes.
    Background info:
A Clean install of Snow Leopard was made on a new hard drive on my Intel Mac G5. (OS 10.5.7 Leopard is still loaded on another hard drive).
Adobe Creative Suite was then installed on the Snow Leopard drive.
Any feedback to try and work around this issue will be greatly appreciated.

I spent the whole holiday weekend troubleshooting this on my MBP. Dreamweaver would crash mostly in system dialogues but sometimes randomly.
    What didn't work initially:
    1. Clean install of SL but when it finished, I migrated my old user account minus apps.
    2. Installed my usual apps and immediately had crashing at system dialogues with Dreamweaver CS4 and a few others.
    3. Hit all troubleshooting blogs and forums including adobe and apple. Tried all the cache flushing, preferences rebuilding, plist deleting til the cows came home. Nothing was working.
Luckily I had carbon copy cloned my leopard install to a firewire 800 drive for a back up so I always had a way back but figured I would try it again.
So here's what did work for me:
    1. Wiped my drive, installed SL cleanly, and upon completion I did NOT migrate ANY user settings from other computers or previous systems.
    2. Installed CS4 first thing and tested. It worked straight away so I did a time machine backup and started adding other apps and bringing folders over by hand all while doing intermittent testing and time machine backups in case I hit some snag that started things crashing again.
    3. I had iSynced my mail, address, calendar, bookmarks etc so that helped ease the pain of not migrating somewhat.... so I resynced everything back as a last step.
    4. And Voila. Been enjoying rock solid performance for several days since...  and zero crashing... even under intense use.
A little manual? Yes. Should it have been necessary to go to this length? Probably not.
But I will say my MBP is snappier than ever and everything is running tip top. So if you have the time, I still recommend doing it. Plus doing it a little manually helped cull my drive of a lot of crap I don't use or need anymore.
If you want pure automation and no maintenance maybe wait for an update.

  • Updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and every time the MB goes to sleep I have to change my location to restore the internet connection. Any ideas why?

I have just updated to ML from Snow Leopard (to be able to use iCloud with my new iPhone 5) and after every time my 2009 MB 13" goes to sleep I have to change location in order to be able to navigate the internet. The connection is made but does not work on navigation. Changing locations enables navigation of the internet. I have three locations 'Automatic', 'Home' and 'Neufbox', my one-month-old ISP-supplied 'box' (router + VOIP telephone). I have never had such problems so I don't remember which location was the default although I am inclined to think it was 'Home'. The MB was delivered on Leopard and I updated to Snow Leopard with no problem. I didn't go to Lion. A friend recommended that I do this latest update because I couldn't synchronise the contacts and calendar from the MB to the iPhone and I hesitated after reading the many reports of inherent problems. I now have great regrets.

No, it doesn't store a clone. You would have needed to make one with either SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner.
If the files were in your ~/Library folder then they may still be there. As I said, you can access it by
going to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library". I wouldn't think an upgrade would overwrite anything in ~/Library.
If you have a Time Machine backup you may also be able to use that to retrieve them.

  • Problems in creating PDFs from Indesign under Snow Leopard

The Acrobat PDF Printer does not work under Snow Leopard anymore.
    Adobe gives this alternative:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
After an update to Acrobat 9.1.3 PDFs should now be generated through a new "Save as Adobe PDF" option under the "PDF" button in the system print dialog.
This does not at all work in Adobe Indesign with it's proprietary print dialog. The PDF-Button is only available in the system print dialog (I know it is accessible from within the Indesign print dialog panel, yet clicking on the PDF button and selecting "Save as Adobe PDF" is ignored).
To make things worse: If you follow the advice to delete the Acrobat Printer from the "Print & Fax" panel this deletes the ADPDF9.PPD from the Library/PPD folder! You even cannot produce .ps files and distill them manually. Fortunately I was able to restore the ADPDF9.PPD from a backup.
This is really annoying: How can Adobe state everything works fine under Snow Leopard if you are not able to create PDFs any more? Or did I miss something?

    Hi.
    make this.
    1. Go to the Apple> System Preferences...
    2.  Open the "Print & Fax" preference panel.
    3. Select the Printing tab, to get to the printers list.
    4.  Select the printer "Adobe PDF 9.0".
    5. Click the options and supplies button.
    6. Choose the Drive.
Now I have reinstalled Leopard. but first like a Drive I have listed only a "Generic Printer".
I tried to reassign it ADPDF9.PPD but is not recognized and automatically resets to a generic printer.
So after some  tests that I have found here
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
    I have reinstall leopard
    This has been my problem.

  • Help with opening Adobe Reader and downloading updates

I can not open Adobe .pdf files any longer (this started yesterday, prior to that I could open adobe files).
When I double click a .pdf file I get this notice on my screen: Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access file.
So I went to the Adobe download site to download a new copy of Adobe.  When I start the download I get this on the screen:  The instruction at "0x0e3a0068" referenced memory at "0x0e3a0068."  The memory could not be written.  Then two options are listed: click OK to terminate or cancel to debug.  So I click on cancel and I get this on my screen: Internet Explorer has closed this webpage to help protect your computer.   A malfunctioning or malicious addon has caused I.E. to close this webpage.
I don't have AVG running, I do have avast but I've disabled it.  I ran Registry Mechanic and an I.E. erasure program but nothing helps.
I have gone into I.E. and reduced the security level to its lowest state but no joy.
So, any ideas or suggestions on what's the problem and how to overcome it would be appreciated.  Thanks, in advance, for your reply.  Jim R.

Hi Mike..tried that as well but no joy.  A friend of mine was looking at it all and noticed that it was an I.E. thing as far as not letting me redownload the reader so I went to Mozilla Firefox and I could download a new version but....whenever I attempt to open a .pdf file I get that message, "Windows can not open the specified device, path or file. You man not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
Damn...this is irritating as I need to get to some of thos files as I need them for a Journal I'm working on as editor-in-chief.
It all worked just fine last Saturday but starting Monday when I was on my flight out to D.C.  no joy.
    Sigh...Jim R.

  • Canon iP6700D Tray Choices Disappear Under Snow Leopard

I have a Canon iP6700D. In 10.5 and earlier, one could select between the automatic sheet feeder and the cassette through selections under "Quality and Media". Those options seem to have disappeared under 10.6.1 using the September 11th Canon printer driver. Nosing about in Google, others seem to have the same problem with this and other printers under Snow Leopard. I've tried uninstalling the printer and re-installing but it hasn't helped.
Settings made under 10.5 and saved still appear in Snow Leopard, and are still able to access the cassette and the sheet feeder, but I can't find a place to CHANGE that for saved or for new settings.
Can anyone tell me where to find this setting, or where I might find a patch that will fix the problem?

The v10.26 driver for the iP6700D still has the Paper Source menu under Q&M on 10.6. I can only think that something is conflicting with your installation of the driver. I would trash the contents of the BJPrinter folder, located in HD > Library > Printers > Canon. Then install the v10.26 driver again and see if the menus are present.
There were two versions of printer drivers available for 10.5, v5.8.3 and v10.xx. If you had the version 5 installed and had presets based on this driver, then they will not work correctly with the v10 driver on 10.6. You should Delete these presets and create new ones once you get the Q&M menu appearing on your install.
Final note. You should be posting this question on the Snow Leopard forum. This forum is for Leopard printing and scanning issues.

  • Cs3 and cs4 web standard compatible with vista home basic?

Are Adobe CS3 and CS4 Web Standard compatible with Vista Home Basic 32bit?
I only see Windows Vista Home Premium / Vista Business / Vista Enterprise / Vista Ultimate / XP listed as compatible.
    Many thanks.

Vista didn't exist when CS3 was released and as such, there is no official statement regard compatibility of CS3 with Vista Home Basic.
For CS4, we are very explicit. CS4 is not at all supported for Vista Home Basic (there are a number of networking and service support components that Microsoft leaves out of their Home Basic versions).

  • Acrobat CS4 under Snow Leopard

hello one and all, just received new CS4 web premium and installed on a new mac pro with snow leopard 10.6.1.  printing to the acrobat 9 printer doesn't work.  it gets up to asking for the location and filename of the pdf file, the host software sends the print pages to the driver, but the pdf file never shows up on the harddrive.  additionally, acrobat will die unexpectantly by simply opening a pdf file.  i am hoping/betting that this is because i installed CS4 under snow leopard and i am anxiously awaiting updates to bring stability to the CS4 products.  thank you.  lucas

Here's one way to accomplish having a PDF printer in Snow Leopard:
Requirements: 2 computers—one running Snow Leopard and one running an OS in which the PDF printer appears in the print menu, say Tiger 10.4.11, for example.
    1. On the Tiger computer:
    a. In Preferences, turn on Print Sharing.
    b. In Preferences, make the Adobe PDF Printer share-able.
    2. On the Snow Leopard computer:
    a. In Preferences: add the Adobe PDF printer, which will appear as a Bonjour printer after you clik +
Note that files may not appear where you expect them: printing to pdf results in files being generated on the Tiger computer's desktop (for me).
This was arrived at working with an Apple Support Tech named Eric: thanks, Eric!
Adobe: Printing to pdf is by no means replaced by the drop-down, especially for batch processing of many items.
A way to create a properly scaled pdf and eps file from any application is key for many people.

  • Failed updates in CS4 Web Premium (Snow Leopard)

From what I've read, this is probably a problem with Snow Leopard, but I haven't found a solution.  Every time Adobe updater runs, the following programs fail to update:
    Adobe CSI CS4 1.0.1
    Adobe Soundbooth CS4 2.0.1
Adobe Version Cue CS4 Server 4.0.1
It's getting really annoying and I want to fix it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Julian

Hi, I was able to find the answer at http://greenbeast.wordpress.com/2009/09/21/problem-solved-snow-leopard-and-cs4-updates/.
To access the hidden folder Go to Finder, press Command-Shift-G
Type or paste the following text: /Applications/.AdobePatchFiles/ and hitReturn or Enter
You now see the contents of the folder. Delete the contents.
    Run application Adobe Updater again.
Hope this helps others with this issue.

After updating to snow leopard and trying to delete mackeeper, Flash player is being blocked and will not allow me to view utubes. Can anyone help?

Here are instructions for eradicating MacKeeper - you may need to re-install it to uninstall it fully:

Regarding Flash - there are many reports on here that v13.x isn't working for a lot of people. distractme in the following thread posted instructions on how to install the previous version, which should work whilst Adobe work on a fix:

If my experience with a similarly aged computer is any indicator, you'll notice an immediately speed hit once you've upgraded to Mavericks. Each OS X update tends to be more memory hungry than the previous and my 2007 iMac wasn't happy with Lion until I upgraded the RAM and at that point Lion performance roughly matched Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion and then Mavericks shaved some speed off again. Mavericks on the 2007 iMac was okay for the most part but switching between applications was slow as was the fileselector.
My 2009 MBP saw similar slowdowns with Lion but I was above to upgrade it to 8GB which made a big difference. (My iMac was limited to 6GB) but I still saw a significant speed hit with Mt Lion when I tried to run multiple memory intensive applications. Seeing how my wife's MacBook Air dealt with Mt Lion with only 4GB I decided to install an SSD in the MBP and wow what a difference. Tried it with the iMac using a FireWire800 enclosure and saw similar improvement.
So to boil it down to one sentence, you are going to see a significant speed hit with only 4GB but if you can afford to upgrade your drive to an SSD you'll be amazed at how well that computer can run.

  • Can i update from Snow leopard to Yosemite and still use old programs?

If I update from Snow leopard (10.6.8) to Yosemite will my old programs work? I'm referring to Freehand MX, Adobe Suite SC2, Microsoft office 2004. I cannot afford to replace ANY of them (I got a Mac when I was diagnosed with Dyslexia while at University so the University bought it all for me).
I have an external harddrive and was routinely backing up my computer however earlier this year it stopped working saying that there asn't enough room ( i though Time Machine deleted old copies?).  I've not very tec savvy at all (and don't underatand how to wipe my external harddrive to start again nor how to set up or use time machine properly).
Please can someone help, explaining in plain English (pretend I'm 90 lol)

I have an external harddrive and was routinely backing up my computer however earlier this year it stopped working saying that there asn't enough room ( i though Time Machine deleted old copies?).  I've not very tec savvy at all (and don't underatand how to wipe my external harddrive to start again nor how to set up or use time machine properly).
You are correct in saying Time Machine will delete old files off of the backend of the backup set. Why this is not happening with your Time machine drive I am not certain, but I have seen this error when, for whatever reason the boot drive was selected as the Time Machine drive
Open System Preferences > Time Machine and be sure the correct drive is selected, If not then change the selection to the correct drive.
    STOP
Otherwise, since you say you are not very tech savvy I am assuming you do not have any third party volume repair utilities and since we do not know why your drive is full rather than deleting files off of the back of the set you want to take extra precautions to be as sure as possible the Time Machine drive is healthy. So I am going to recommend an extra step in the process. I am also assuming your Time Machine drive is attached to your Mac with either a USB or Firewire interface — this will not work for network drives.
Open Disk Utility — you will find it in /Applications/Utilities on your Mac hard drive
Select the Time Machine volume and click on the Erase tab
The format should be Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
You can change the name of the drive if you want
Click on the Security Options button and move the slider one notch to the right
Click on the Erase button — this will erase the drive and write zeros to every sector on the drive which should remap any bad sectors to the spare sectors on the drive but it will take some time, so don't get anxious.
Assuming there are no errors when Disk Utility completes close it
Open System Preferences > Time Machine and reselect the Time Machine drive.
You Mac will then start a new Time Machine backup set. This may take several hours depending on the speed of your Mac the speed of the connection to the Time Machine drive and the speed of the Time Machine drive itself.
