Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 will not run

It used to run.  I used it to download e-books, but now I am told that it is an incompatable program.  What do I need to do.  I have tried to restart it.  I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and I installed an older version and tried up upgrade it.  I'm totallly frustrated!

Try leaving ADE2.0 installed, then installing 1.7.2 and using that.
You might need to deregister (ctrl-shift-D) and reregister,
as ADE often gets confused registration over installs/reinstalls and thinks it is is registered when it isn't really.
~~~~~~~~~
There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.
  • Digital Editions 4.0 will not open after installation on Windows  XP laptop.
    Digital Editions  4.0 will not open after installation on Windows XP laptop.  DigitalEditions 3.0 installs and opens fine.  Have tried 4.0 several times.  Removed 3.0 and 4.0, reboot, reinstall 4.0 still will not open.  Error message says Windows has experienced and problem and requires that Digital Editions must be shut down.
    Solved my own problem. It was necessary to delete all instances of Adobe Digital Editions in programs and  the registry. After doing so and reinstalling 4.02...., it became available in the "open with" dialogue box and became the default epub reader.
  • Adobe Digital Edition 4.0 doesn't run and a message appears
    Hello, ADE doesn't open and this message appears. What is the solution or which other software can I use? Thank you.
    note to moderator -   this is MY response to MY own posting.  How can this be a duplicate.
    success.  ADE 4.0 is to be avoided. It crashed after my solution.
    The solution is trash the activation.dat preference file.
    Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.
    If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden library files | Mac OS 10.7 and later.
    I reinstalled ADE 3.0 and life is good.
  • E-book will not open in Adobe Digital Editions
    I have Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.1 and when I try to open my ebook in it, I get this message: Document is licensed for a different user account. Not sure what this means, because when I try to open the ebook on its own, it takes me to the web page to download Adobe Digital Editions. I am not sure what other account it is licensed for... Appreciate any help.
    iBooks can only be opened / viewed on iOS devices (iPhone / iPad).  They cannot be opened or viewed on a Mac.
  • Adobe Digital Editions not responding
    I try to open adobe digital editions and it says not responding as soon as I open it and it does nothing for hours.  It still does this even after uninstalling it and reinstalling it.  I really need this program to work on three essays.  Please help.
    Two possibilities.
    One is you have hit a bug in v2.0.x.  Try using the less buggy 1.7.2 instead (see below).
    The other is that you have an ereader device plugged in with lots of books on it.
    A new installation of ADE has the very irritating habit of completely searching such a device for books that have nothing to do with ADE,
    and writing lots of extra information about them to the device that you don't want there.
    This is a very slow process, and it gives no indication that it is happening.
  • Adobe Digital Editions Not Downloading?
    My adobe digital editions 2.0 does not work.  I've tried to download version 1.7 but it keeps me going in circles from one website to another.  Even 2.0 won't download,  What can I do?
    That pointer leads me to a download of ADE 2.0.1 at http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/digital-editions/download.html
    If I am not logged op, it doesn't seem to know I am in UK and works fine.
    You need to get the website updated properly.
  • Adobe Digital Editions for Surface RT
    I would like to purchase a Microsoft Surface tablet to replace my netbook. The Surface runs the Windows 8 RT operating system, which is different from Windows 8. Executable files (such as the Adobe Digital Editions installation EXE) cannot be run on RT -- apps must be downloaded from the Microsoft Windows App Store. Will Adobe make a version of Adobe Digital Editions that will run on the Surface RT?
    Thanks,
    Cara
    H'mmm.
    I just checked out the Windows8 Metro (what are we meant to call it?) specific version of Overdrive.
    I didn't check it on a tablet but on the Metro side of full Windows 8; I guess it should be the same, but ???
    I did manage to register it with my AdobeID (charms-Settings-Accounts).
    I then found that it would not open DRM .epub files from the main part of the PC (library or bought).
    However, when I opened a .acsm file for a library DRM ebook, it did work
    Trying to open my (only) bought DRM ebook using the .acsm file,
    it keeps saying 'system busy, this title will be added after the current process has finished'
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Other advice indicates that it is meant to be able to ... eg from http://www.koorong.com/info/ebooks/deviceadvice.jsp
    Windows 8 RT Tablet:
    Getting Started:
    You will need to install an app capable of reading DRM-protected ePub files on your Windows 8 tablet device. We recommend Overdrive Media Console available for free from the Microsoft App Store.
    You will also need to enter your Adobe ID into Overdrive which can be done through the 'Accounts' option in the Settings menu. Swipe in from the right of the screen to open the menu and select 'Settings'. Select 'Accounts' and then 'Authorize'. Enter your Adobe ID and password.

  • Does the ipad support adobe digital editions?

    I would like to publish my book as a digital edition for iPad. However, the book is a PDF which comes out beautifully on Adobe Digital Editions, and I can not find any information about whether ADE is compatible with the iPad or iPhone. This leads me to believe it isn't. Kindle does not support PDF, either. Can't ADE just be downloaded to iPad or iPhone and then just used to when a book is purchased in a PDF?
    Any info. will be greatly appreciate.

    No, there isn't anything on the ipad that can display these files and I'm not aware that adobe has given any indication that there will be. There are many other pdf readers, but they can't open ADE files.

  • Help Flash player will not run in Internet Explorer 11?

    I have downloaded Adobe Flash Player and it will not run in Internet Explorer 11.  I have done the things suggested in the help/forum section. What else can I try?

    This is a known problem with Internet Explorer 11, which Microsoft has been aware of since October 18 when they released their latest "untested" browser. The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
    Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
    I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
    ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.
