Adobe Please Explain

Dear Adobe I can find instructions and a list of needed for modifying Apache to work with HLS for Apple/IOS devices. However I cannot use .dll on Linux but I can possibly use the .so files ....so can you verify that FMS 4.5 HLS for Apple/IOS devices works on Linux by installing just the 3 .so files below? If it is in short why don't i need the .dll? Please answer so I don't spend days trying to install FMS 4.5 in a way that is not documented or tested by you. Also is installing FMS 4.5 and HLS for Adobe/IOS devices possible on IIS? Where do i get instructions for IIS? Thanks for your time.

• Can someone from Adobe please explain why measurements in CS6 are not accurate..PLEASE?

I'm tired of wasting my time looking for reasons why measurements I key in are constantly changed to some arbitary number decided by Illustrator. I'm currently working on a 100mm x 100mm box with a corresponding grid and yet for some reason my measurements get changed to 100.238mm or 99.834mm or similar... I just wasted another 10 minutes trying to work out how to ask someone this question...am I the only one experiencing this...NO! Any answers Adobe, please?

The above answers are absolutely correct, because it was obvious @Brayhill had Pixel-Snap turned on.
Specifically for print work, where keying in values may sometimes not show correctly* in the Control Bar at the top, there is another little hidden setting in Preferences -> General -> Use Preview Bounds.
If you are doing millimeter perfect templates for example, and want the total to show for example 100 x 100mm, regardless of the stroke weight asigned, just uncheck the Preview Bounds box in Preferences.
*Checked will always add your stroke width (as well as some other effects) to the total shown in the Control Bar. This can also be very useful at times, say when you need to fit an entire group with strokes and effects within 100x100mm, like an advertisement.

• Adobe - please explain how to soft proof in LR2

I have read all the messages I could find. It seems clear that LR2 has no soft proofing of my prints. And yes, I am working with a color managed screen.
So Adobe, please tell us how you intend us to soft proof our images????

>Really? "most professionals do not calibrate their monitors." I find that unbeleavable.
Me too, but I know a few working pros that simply trust their expensive monitor is good enough. Weirdly some of them will spend a long time obsessing over color (typically skin tones) but don't bother to calibrate. This just boggles my mind. Seems to work for them fine though.
>I will agree that I am getting amazing prints out of LR2
Color is great for me too. However, I identified a major, reproducible on multiple machines, resolution bug with LR 2's print module at least in the OS X version and am curious if others see it too, especially on windows.
Jao, "Loss of Sharpness Printing Actual Size from Lightroom" #15, 24 Aug 2008 11:22 pm
In short. I. Printing at native resolution by unchecking "print resolution" does not work. LR2 will still scale but to the value now shown in light grey. II. In rotated images (like a portrait format RAW on a portrait paper) LR2 calculates the resolution to send to the printer based on the wrong dimension, resulting in a far lower resolution sent to the printer than specified. LR 1.4 does not have these bugs. This also impacts the print to jpeg feature and makes the Print module in LR 2 basically useless for me as I can only trust it to do the right thing in a limited set of circumstances.

• Adobe, please stop running from this issue! (GPU vs CPU anomalies / fades)

Adobe,
I have tried to bring this issue to light many times, and your own users have argued it ad finem, but to no avail! I am TIRED of getting terrible alpha blending (and opacity curve) results with GPU acceleration enabled, vs CPU. In fact, it is SO BAD that I NEVER work with GPU acceleration any more.
Here is the issue:
When GPU acceleration is enabled, you simply CANNOT do a smooth fade and/or cross dissolve. It appears to fade down smoothly to about 20% opacity, and then the next frame it will jump right to 0% quite abruptly and disappear. It's almost as if the fade simply gives up and switches off! Regardless of whether you use Cross Dissolve, or Film Dissolve the results are the same. Also, your alpha blending is all messed up, CLEARLY showing a different result when comparing CPU and GPU rendering outputs. Once again, this issue ONLY exists with GPU acceleration ENABLED. Switch off GPU/MPE and the problems disappear. But of course you lose the speed and other benefits GPU acceleration offers, which would be great to have! Especially seeing as I have also heard (from various other resources) that GPU acceleration can improve the quality of rendering out to compressed formats like H264. But we will never know that, will we? Because, every time I enable GPU, my fades and blending looks noticeably bad!
I have seen in various other threads that your response has been along the lines of: "That's just the way it is". But unless your name is Bruce Hornsby, this response is unacceptable! You cannot advertise a "great feature" of your products (in this case, GPU/MPE), yet when people try to use it and see odd results, simply tell us: "oh by the way, yeah, it does not work in a few scenarios, like fading, but otherwise you are good to go!" The way I see it: cross-fades (even fades in general) as well as opacity/blending are some of the most common, if not THE most common techniques used in video projects! Having an anomaly of this nature showing a DISTINCT difference in quality output when one of your fantastic "features" is enabled is just poor form. What is evern poorer is your responses (or lack thereof) related to the issue. Especially seeing as this problem has been present since CS5, and now we are STILL seeing it in CC!
Here is a thread which documents the issue well (even shows examples, and other details someone prepared for you to apparently ignore):
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/773441
...it was never addressed there.
Another issue which details it going back as far as CS 5.5:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/987306
...once again, never resolved.
Now I am using CC, latest version, up-to-date, a fast i7 processor, a CUDA supported card, and all of those go to waste because I have to have GPU and the mercury playback engine disabled to yield decent quality results.
I implore you, not just for myself, but on behalf of everybody here who has already addressed this issue, but has had their pleas fall on deaf ears: PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM. Telling us simply that: "This is the way GPU cards choose to render" is NOT ACCEPTABLE. It's just like me saying when I drive my car on the wrong side of the road: "that's just the way I drive!". Doesn't mean it is acceptable!
You may have won people over since Final Cut Pro screwed the pooch with version X... but I can guarantee if this does not get resolved soon, the issue won't just be isolated to the forums here. Expect to read about it in MANY online publications that I am sure your competitors will ENJOY watching!
Mat.

Indeed. Yes Adobe, please explain.
And here is an example of what I am talking about:
CPU only (MPE and GPU DISABLED):
This appears to be what I would consider accurate, as it is not only well blended, but the fades work smoothly thanks to it relying on the CPU...
GPU (MPE and GPU ENABLED - Linear Color ON - as per default):
This provides identical image quality/blending results as the CPU only benchmark. However, the fades are very abrupt, as per the original problem...
GPU (MPE and GPU ENABLED - Linear Color OFF, as per your recommendation):
This is your recommended solution. The fades are as smooth as they are in the CPU version. But as you can see the color, alpha and blending are VASTLY different. Actually, it looks HORRIBLE! The BG text is barely visible, and the foreground text appears to be more prevalent over the top of the back layer, making its fade-up quite disjointed and selective.
...So as you can see, the "solution" you provided seems to create more problems and/or inconsistencies in the overall output. Now we have no idea what is the "standard"!
I personally find these inconsistency's very concerning. And I am sure I'm not the only one. Please tell me there is actually a logic to this "solution" and it wasn't a simple duct-tape fix that nobody there at Adobe actually looked deeper into to see exactly how it would effect overall image quality! It sure appears that way!
I appreciate that you, Kevin, are not directly responsible for this issue, and you are indeed a representative trying to help. But please realize that for many of us here, we are LONG time Premiere users, with years of experience and influence in this industry, and this definitely isn't our first rodeo! When we flag these issues we do so out of a REAL need, which means the consequences Adobe faces as a result of not addressing these issues are equally as REAL! As such; I encourage you to expedite the process of resolving this issue, because it has been prevalent since CS5.5, and the fact that it is not been resolved and/or has been addressed poorly does not bode well for your overall reputation. Especially when you are trying to make Premiere the industry standard. Like I said, I would hate to have to look at alternatives, so give me a solution, because if I decide to move on from using Premiere, I won't be the last. And no, I am not being melodramatic here. If a piece of software cannot seem to get something as simple as fades and blend modes right (or at least CONSISTENT), how can the software be trusted to handle high-end workflows? Food for thought.

Hi,
2 things:
1. Assuming your script is original - it is not asking for a TXT file till it is found in expected location. You can choose between 2 solutions:
to remove FindChangeList.txt from FindChangeSupport folder ==> script will ask for another file
to override this file by your query ==> script will not ask but execute your query
2. You can see greyed TXT files in Script Panel since this panel shows executable files (script's formats)

• EMET 5.1 crashes Outlook.exe, Photoshop.exe and Communicator.exe. Please explain why it would do that?

Hi,
EMET 5.1 is crashing/not opening these applications on two of our staff workstations (Both are Windows 7 x86): Outlook.exe, Photoshop.exe and Communicator.exe.
One computer, EMET crashes Communicator and Outlook. The other Computer, the EMET crashes Photoshop only.
Obviously, it works for everybody else. Can someone please explain to me why would EMET crash these apps if it works for the rest? Could it be that it found a possible threat/exploit to the machine?
How do I mitigate this problem?
Please advise. Below is a sample of the error.

One guess is that old Outlook plugins can sometimes cause issues with EMET. Try starting Outlook in safe mode, by holding down the CTRL key when starting Outlook to see if that helps, and look in Outlook in File / Options / Add-Ins menu item to see
the add-ons that are installed. Verify that the OS and apps have all the latest patches if you haven't, though you have probably already done that. If those don't work you could try unchecking the EMET application protection boxes for the
application that isn't working, one by one. Note that EMET 5.2 is out now so that might be something to try too.

Just saw your thread, and it looked like a candidate for the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce Roll Back the Driver issue. If your computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card, then the following applies to you. You do not want to update the driver. Rather you want to roll back the driver version, probably to about May 2013. For your convenience I have done a copy/paste of the forum announcement which gives all the details and fix of the matter.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained workflow glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
Older NVIDIA GeForce drivers can be found
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
A February 2014 overview of the situation as well as how to use the older NVIDIA GeForce drivers for the driver roll back can be found
http://atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe10-nvidia-video-card-roll-back.html
This matter has been very specific to the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce card user. So, if your computer is using other than a NVIDIA GeForce card, it is likely that the message does not apply to you, and we can then explore other troubleshooting possibities.
Looking forward to your follow up. Do not hesitate to ask for clarification on anything written here.
Thanks.

• Please explain the magic! (Question)

The ActionScript snippet below is from the BlaseDS chat sample app. Can someone please explain the magic that declares the chatMessage property of AsyncMessage.body (IMessage.body?) object? It's not in the docs anywhere so I'm guessing it is not built into AsyncMessage. And it's not defined in any of the sample app source files.
Coming from a strongly-typed development world, seeing a property that apparently has no declaration and is not explicitly instantiated does not pass the sniff-test.
Thanks.
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.messaging.messages.AsyncMessage;
import mx.messaging.messages.IMessage;
private function send():void
var message:IMessage = new AsyncMessage();
message.body.chatMessage = msg.text;
producer.send(message);
msg.text = "";
private function messageHandler(message:IMessage):void
log.text += message.body.chatMessage + "\n";
]]>

Hold your nose, because that is the dynamic "feature" of Actionscript. Pretty much every class derives from Object (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/Object.html) which is a dictionary of key-value property pairs. The {"chatMessage", msg.text as Object} pair is created upon assignment.
I am fairly new to Flex/AS, and while not having to declare types is convenient for quick and dirty coding, I try to avoid it in production code...I have been bitten by refactoring a class and not catching all the places where it was referenced dynamically. I'm sure there are comprehensive pro and con arguments out there.

• Please explain the meaning of "Deferred" in JIRA bug database

Dear Adobe Team,
I have posted a few bugs recently and discovered this morning that they are now "Closed" with resolution "Deferred".
Some of these bugs are
https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-26396
https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-26317
https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-26081
Please explain how we should understand this decision.
My assumption is that bugs stay open until they are resolved in the next release.
Why are these bugs closed/deferred?
When are deferred bugs reopened?

Worth having a look at the 'Basic Workflow' to understand more of the statuses...
http://bugs.adobe.com/confluence/display/ADOBE/Basic+Workflow
I tend to find the start of the workflow more frustrating - unless you can attract a couple of votes or Adobe folks pick up the cause early, an issue can remain at 'Community' status for quite some time. By comparison getting to 'deferred' status is a good thing

• Please Explain INHERIT

I understand the term INHERIT refers to the code that comes before--that it is "inherited" or assumed from code above. However, I am setting new IDs (#) within Div tags and often see in the CSS panel that what I have coded is crossed out and the message pops up -- the property "does not apply because it is not inherited." Inherit shouldn't apply as I am coding a specific change for a specific area.
Please explain so I stop making the same error. Using DW CS5.5

Ok, so how do I get it all to inherit from the cascades above? Do I use an 'inherit' code for all the positioning elements? Almost everything in all the div classes below BODY are crossed out. Some things apply and some don't. I don't know how to make a copy of the CSS panel from within DW to show you the cascades and the codes that are crossed out. But here is some of the initial CSS code:
/* Global */
body {font-size: 16px; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 1.5; background-color:#00ADEF; }
/Containers/
#outer
#wrapper
On the CSS panel, background-color and font-family are crossed out within the Body tag; on the Outer tag, background-color, margin and width are crossed out; and on the Wrapper tag, all three are again crossed out.
What did I do wrong?

Here's an example: #div1 with this HTML -
blah
In the CSS panel for div2, you would see the padding assigned to div1 but it would have a strikethrough since it doesn't inherit into div2. On the other hand the color style would inherit, and would not be shown with a strikethrough. So - there are styles that inherit, and styles that don't inherit. Things that inherit are things like font styles. Things that don't inherit are things like location styles (i.e., position, margin, padding, etc.). Does that help?

• Please explain me how I can use Form feed(\f) and Carriage return(\r)

what is Form feed(\f) and Carriage return(\r)?
Please explain to me.
Thank you.

These control characters aren't used much these days except that if you example a Windows or MSDOS text file in a binary editor you'll find each line ends with "\r\n". However when reading or writing text through classes these carriage returns will be added and removed automatically so your program doesn't see them.
The controlls date back to teletype machines which operated rather like typewriters. Cariage return, as it's name implied, caused the print head to move back to the start of the line, line feed advanced a line (without, necessarilly, returning the carriage) and formfeed skipped to the next page.
Newline on these machines was always "return, linefeed" because executing the carriage return on these machine could take too long. The early machines had only a single character buffer so that they had to executed the characters as quickly as they arrived. So doing the linefeed after the carriage return gave the carriage more time to return. On some teletypes if you did "linefeed, return" then the first character of the new line would often be printed somewhere in the middle of the line.
This is the origin of the MSDOS/Windows end of line sequence.
Many printers will still respect formfeed if printing is direct. Some will take carriage return without linefeed to allow you to start again overprinting the same line.
However printing, these days, is seldom direct but done in bitmap form.

• Please explain me, how to remove an usb stick or memory chip? With experiences only in pc:s, I do not find on my first apple e.g. MacBook Air a solution. Until now I have succeeded to destroy one chip full of photos and - there's no life more in the port.

Please explain me, how to remove an usb stick or memory chip? With experiences only in pc:s, I do not find on my first apple e.g. MacBook Air a solution. Until now I have succeeded to destroy one chip full of photos and - there's no life more in the port...
Someone told me just to remove the chip in clicking it to the trash can and voilá - it would be done. But as I did so, on the screen appeared a text which let me know, that that way had been the wrong one...
I should have clicked Finder plus something.... which I do not now remember but which was then not found behind the Finder.
So please would someone be so kind and tell me, where I can find explanations for the most simple functions. The manual I got does not include a clue.
Thank you!

First make sure that no application is using or has open any files on the disk. Then:
Click and drag the disk icon on the desktop to the trash. Wait for the system to recognize the action, and the icon should disappear from the desktop. It is then safe to remove the device.
Alternatively, you can secondary click on the disk icon, and then primary click "Eject (name of disk)". Wait for the icon to disappear off the desktop, and then it is safe to remove the drive.
Here is a detailed help document on the subject.

• Hi any one please explain background job scheduling

Hi any one please explain background job scheduling . Good answer can be rewarded.
Thanks

Background jobs are pgms that are scheduled to be run in the Background without user interaction. So this can be done only for Type 1(executable) Program and not for Module-Pool Programs. Typically, a variant is defined and the pgm is run using the same.
The transaction code is sm36 -Define Background job. Using the Start Condition tab you can define when you want the job to run (specific time or if it has to follow after a particular job is done etc.,) Using the Step tab you can assign the pgm name and variant.
After the job is scheduled, you can check the status in sm37, along with the Job log and Spool.
