Adobe Policy - Stinks!

I've been a longtime customer of Adobe PhotoShop and then PhotoShop Elements.
I run under Windows Vista and have had no problems till recently.
I purchased a new Canon 70D camera and find that the Camera RAW codec in PSE 11 did not support this camera. That's OK and understandable.
I searched high and low on the Adobe website looking for solutions to this. I found that Adobe states PSE 11 and 12 (as well as other versions) work under Windows Vista and XP but I did not find any information regarding any limitations related to the Camera RAW Codecs... anywhere on the Adobe website. Doesn't mean they're not there.. just that I did not find any documented information on this.
I then found that Adobe says their Camera RAW Codec version 8.2 and higher will support the Canon 70D. But, no mention as to what products and what versions of said products contain or support this codec version.
When you ask/read posts from everyone in the Adobe forums they tell you to upgrade to PSE 12 and all will be fine. That's not a true statement.
After not finding any documentation identifying any known limitations, I purchased PSE 12 only to find out that it comes with the codec v8.0 and it doesn't auto-update to anything higher.
I contacted support via the online chat and that is where I'm told that PSE 12 only supports the codec v8.0 under Windows Vista and won't update to v8.2 or higher under that OS.
To me, this is simply very poor customer service. I think Adobe could have made available a document that explained the changes in the Camera RAW Codec and what OS versions these changes would work under. Adobe knew a long time ago these changes were coming. After all, they had a hand in the development process.

Will that fit on a stamp?

  • Use of Adobe Policy server to implement security functions

    Hello Folks,
Has anyone explored the possibilities to implement security features for adobe offline scenario using Adobe Policy Server?
Is there any other means by which I can implement features like password protected or encryption in offlince scenario?
SAP documentation has pointers to Adobe Policy server, but no comprehensive documentation found on the same.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Chitrali

    Hi,
You can add security features like password protection and limits usage, such as no printing, etc. Here is a link to the Java API documentation http://help.sap.com/javadocs/NW04S/current/wd/com/sap/tc/webdynpro/clientserver/adobe/pdfdocument/api/IWDPDFDocumentCreationContext.html#setProtection(java.lang.String,%20java.lang.String,%20com.sap.tc.webdynpro.clientserver.adobe.pdfdocument.api.WDPDFDocumentProtectPermission[])
I believe you can do the same stuff with the ABAP API.
You have to check if it works in your version, because sometimes the API is there but doesn't work 100%.
You can also sign docs (there is some info about that in the above Java API link).
    Hope this helps.

  • Kerberos authentication adobe policy server

    Hi,
when a user uses the browser to log into adobe policy server, he also gets a ticket from kerberos? Or does this just happen, when he uses for example the Adobe Acrobat Professional?
    thx for help...

    Hi Raymund,
Currently Windows Kerberos Authentication is only supported from Acrobat and other client applications we support with plugins (MS Office).
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe policy on licensing.

As i found out after contacting with Adobe the only way to transfer a license from windows to mac is buying a new version of the corresponding product.
I would to like to ask for an explaination behind this policy, based on commont sense.
I am feeling that Adobe doesn't respect customers that paid 2.700 euros for a product (Production CS5 Suite). I just switched platform and i have to pay an extra 1000 euros to do my work legally.
Is there anyone who feels that this makes sense?
I believe that whenever a serious competitor appears Adobe will start respecting more its customers, but it will be too late.
I would also like to raise the issue of the high pricing to the european clients. Take for example the cloud service pricing...
    Really dissapointed,
    antoine

Hi Antoine, it is true that Adobe does not sell or maintain older versions of the software, so if you want to "crossgrade" between operating systems natively then you need to be up to the latest release of Creative Suite...
One other option would be to look into running PC programs on your Mac via virtualization or dual-boot software, though that would require more work/expense.
Lastly, on the pricing, don't forget to take taxes into account.  The U.S. pricing isn't quoted with taxes included, whereas European prices typically are (significant VAT).
Even apples-to-apples, there is still a price difference between different countries of course, and Adobe has addressed why this is.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe help stinks - Any good third party manuals?

I've just purchased CS6 Extended, and I see that the only help I can get is online help, rather than a good, searchable help file, as in earlier versions. It seems they feel they can eliminate the pay checks of technical writers by having their developers put on videos, in which they natter along with zero teaching skills, seemingly more interested in showing off their latest enhancements, than actually having to explain HOW they work. There was just ONE guy (I can't remember his name) of all the videos I've gone through, who actually presented his subject in a logical, thoughtful way, and the manner in which he spoke seemed to indicate that he had actually had some teaching experience.
I think Photoshop is a wonderful program, and CS6 64 bit is fantastic, but good luck trying to learn anything quickly with the current lame help system that is so obviously more interested in trying to push cloud to get people’s money on tap for a nice, steady flow of revenue. But we users are not cash cows, and I resent the feeling that that is what we're being perceived as by Adobe. You pay a high cash price for this software, and then you get help that's really mostly Adobe bragging and self-promotion via developer geeks with poor communication skills.
Now that I've done my indignant customer scolding thing, does anybody know of a particular 3rd party book that addresses the 3d features that started a release or 2 ago and are supposedly so much better now for CS6?

The concept of the on-line Help is a good one - it can be updated instantly, and with the Community Help tie-in, can be expanded. This makes it even more "evergreen," than a PDF file.
However, just like you, I find it to be rather a pain. I come from the age of manuals, and appreciate having a good book, with an index, handy.
I have all of my manuals for PS, starting with version 2.5, and up through CS 2. Each has proved very useful, and each has been read from page 1, until the end.
Then, my life changed. First it was the PDF, and I would just take that to a printer (having to jump though some © hoops), but with the full, on-line, I find it tougher to locate what I need, and I have been using the program for decades, so know most naming conventions - until those change.
Once, one would have a ring-bound manual, and about every quarter, and little package would arrive with revisions, and addenda, to be added to the manual. Those days are long gone. I have even paid extra $ to Adobe, for manuals in one of my last upgrades. For me, that was worth the expense.
Still, because I am a dinosaur, I had better get used to the state of affairs. CS 6 will likely be my last upgrade, and I will just rely on Photoshop User magazine to fill me in.

  • Product update/upgrade policy by Adobe

Adobe is selling software with less validity than a yogurth: I bought the upgrade of Elements suite to version 8 in August this year and One and a half month later this product has expired because Adobe released version 9. Any decent company would provide me with a free upgrade, but this is no Adobe policy: they just care for the money.

I would just like to let you know that I consider, at least,  unethical to sell a piece of software with a validity of a pack of cook

    Good afternoon Cathy,
Thank you very much for your  reply
I'm sorry but I don't understand what is the response you are  expecting from me. All I can say is:
1- I properly identified the order  number from the purchase in your store (#AD001971320PT), therefore, you know  that I bought the pr
oduct on 20/08/2010 from your online store.
2- I  don't know the release date of the new version. Even less what was the "team  determined eligibility period for complimentary up
grades" (I just can find  that information on your site).
Therefore, I would like you to tell me if  I'm "eligible for complimentary upgrade", or not.
Thank you for your help  and best regards,

  • Policy Server Document displaying no content inside Adobe Acrobat 7.0

When I apply a policy to a document and login in I am able to view the document the first time. However when I try to re-open the document, it will open in Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0 but open up with a grey background with no content. We are currently piloting the adobe Policy Server. I have ab out 35 external users on this policy and all of them are active users.

    Hi Stacie,
Could you provide more detail on what happens when a document won't open. For example:
    * Is a gray background displayed?
    * Do you receive an error message (if so, what is it exactly)?
    * What client OS are you using (version/service pack/etc)?
    * What version of Acrobat are you using (7.0.0, 7.0.1, 7.0.2, 7.0.5, etc.)?
Any more detail (even little ones) can be useful in diagnosing the problem.
    Thanks,

  • Is there any Java API to interact/integrate with Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server

    Hi,
We are already using Adobe LiveCycle Policy server & has manual process in place to send documents to clients.
Going forward we want to automate this document generation process. We are using Java, JEE in our application.
We are planning to use below steps to automate this process.
    1) Administrator will create a Template in Adobe Policy Server and will map users intended to receive mails with this template
    2) Our application will interact with Adobe Policy Server and use Template ID to generate PDF document and send mails to client.
Can anyone please let me know if there is any Java API which can be used to perform the above second step.
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Best Regards - Roy

  • Non English caracters in Policy Server invitation mail

Letters that are not in the English alphabet do not come out as they should when invitation and confirmation mails are sent from Adobe Policy Server.
In my case the Norwegian letters Æ Ø Å are not showing correct. But I'm guessing this goes for all other non eng. letters.
    Example Š= å
I have installed Adobe Policy Server (automatic install) with JBOSS/Tomcat and use the IIS smtp server. Does anyone know where I have to do changes to get things correct?

    Michael Sletvold

    Hello Chris
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. However I can not get it to work. It said utf8 and not utf-8 in the jboss-run.bat so I have tired both entries in the run.bat file (one at a time):
    run.bat
    set JAVA_OPTS=%JAVA_OPTS% -Xms128m -Xmx512m -Dfile.encoding=utf-8
    set JAVA_OPTS=%JAVA_OPTS% -Xms128m -Xmx512m -Dfile.encoding=utf8
I also changed the jboss-run.bat to -Dfile.encoding=utf-8 without any sucsess.
The regional settings on the win2003 server is set to Norwegian and I have a full server restart after each time I make a change in the *.bat file. Any tip on what I might be doing wrong would be appretiated.
    Regards
    Michael

  • Adobe elements for Mac and CS5 for Mac

Hi, I have two full licenses for photoshop, one for elements and one for CS5. Would it be possible for me to swap the Elements 8 (mac version) for Elements 8 for PC. I want to teach my son to use Elements for his college work, while he has a PC and I have a mac. I bought the Elements for a course that only used Elements but quickly as I moved on I had to use full CS5. I can't remember if I used the elements serial number to upgrade to CS5, where I should have CS4 serial number.

    Hi,
As per adobe policy on cross platform swap : http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405819.html.
"You can swap only current versions. If you have a previous version, you cannot swap to a different platform or language of the previous version--instead, it's necessary to upgrade."

  • Subscription Acrobat Pro DC, Adobe Export PDF, Adobe PDF Pack. How can I activate the need of licens?

Subscription Acrobat Pro DC, Adobe Export PDF, Adobe PDF Pack.
How can I activate the need of licens?
The reason can be Adobe policy, I have change computer, added products, stop using any product and so on.

    Hans,
When you no longer need the Adobe software on a computer or you wish to move it to another one, you should deactivate the software.
See this link: how to deactivate software. Installation rules will let you install the software on two computers of the same platform (both windows or both mac) but you are limited to running it on only one at a time. If you have only installed it once, you should be able to install it on the other computer. If you have already installed the software twice and you don't have access to your previous computer or you upgraded your computer's hardware, replace a hard drive, upgraded your operating system, or reformatted your drive before deactivating your software, you can ask Adobe Support to help you deactivate the software from the machine. Just have your serial number or Adobe ID ready, and then contact support. Then you can install the software from the links below and enter your serial number to re-activate the software.
If you need to find your serial number, sign in to your Adobe account. On the Manage Accounts page that appears, all of your registered products and their serial numbers are listed in the Plans & Products section. For more information on locating serial numbers, or on registering a serial number, please see Find a serial number.

  • Unacceptable Performance - Unacceptable Point Patch Policy

There are known issues with Flash CS3. Notable of these are
the publish crashes on all platforms. I find it completely
unacceptable that Macromedia > Adobe's perspective on patches is
typically 'a paid upgrade will patch the program'.
This is completely unusual in the industry and the fact that
you now hold the monopoly on good (great tools, but not perfect
tools) is no excuse for not fixing issues with your software. I
find it pretty deplorable that you will fix known issues by
pitching an upgrade. 'Pay to upgrade or live with the issues' is no
    way to be.
Flash crashes on me no less than 10 times a day. Most of
these crashes occur at publish time. I save my work often, but even
a 15 minute loss is aggrevating. When Flash locks or crashes,
windows can lock things like the context menu from use - this
requires a restart. So a Flash crash ends up doing these things:
    1. Interruption of flow
    2. Loss of work
    3. Loss of time
This can equate to a momentum loss, time loss, and work loss
of up to an hour. Multiply this by 4 to 10 times a day and you can
only imagine how steamed a developer can get.
I use Vista, but I understand that this issue also occurs on
Mac. I use video editing software, word processing software,
spreadsheets, and other authoring software that doesn't crash. Why
am I expected to live with this until Adobe releases a full point
    release?
Can I get an amen from any other developers out there? I'd
love Adobe to be as responsive to developers (IDE users, I've seen
a lot of catering to the more hardcore programmer types that tend
NOT to use the IDE anyway). as they are to the public with Flash
    player updates.

You realize, of course, that the "you" referred to in your
post is not Adobe. This is a user-to-user forum. If you're unhappy
with Adobe policy, write to them directly. The likelihood of anyone
from Adobe with any influence reading this forum or this post is
    next to null.
That said, as a Flash user since 2000, I'm flabbergasted at
the attitude that Flash is somehow "perfect" upon release and no
bugs exist. I was hoping this policy would change when Adobe bought
Macromedia, since Adobe tends to release a few patches for each of
its major apps as bugs are uncovered.
But alas, no hope. I once cornered one of the leaders of the
Flash development team at an official Macromedia event a couple
years ago and brought this up. He replied that they "need to focus
all their resources on developing the next release." I had to
withhold myself from being really rude in response.

  • Questioning Adobes Upgrade policies

I have been an Adobe user all the way back to PS5 and I have purchased every upgrade all the way to PS CS3 Design Premium.  Same with Illustrator.  I've had Lightroom ver 1,2 and 3. Also, Indesign ver 4 thru CS3.  When I purchased Adobe CS Standard then upgraded to CS3 Design Premium, I didn't know that I would never be able to upgrade single software programs from their CS3 version to any upgrades from there.  Early this year I dowloaded PS CS5, of course it wouldn't install because I have to purchase the entire CS5 Design Premium.  I called Adobe and they allowed me to Upgrade to PS CS5 because I had purchased so much from them in the past.  That was nice!  I didn't think about all this yesterday as I purchased CS5 Illustrator and CS5 Dreamweaver. I downloaded the software which by the way was $400.00.  When I tried to install it, it would not install, said my serial number wasn't valid.  I called Customer support and they informed me that I can't upgrade single products if I have CS3, that I would have to purchase the entire suite.  I told them about Adobe allowing me to upgrade my version of Photoshop CS3 to PS CS5  which was included in CS3 Design Premium, because of how much money I have spent with them.  They were not budging on this issue.  So, here it is, I spent $400 yesterday with Adobe, which now they have to refund me my money, that is money Adobe will never get from me again. I started to think about this upgrade path and how much money it is costing Adobe.  I think there are others out there that just don't need the newest ver of flash or Acrobat or Indesign, but would buy Illustrator and Dreamweaver.  Adobe is forcing people to purchase programs that they don't need.  For me to upgrade my version of Dreamweaver and Illustrator, I will have to purchase the full versions which we know is $1,000.00 for the two full versions.  So I am either going to have to buy the Design Premium upgrade for $799 but the owners of CS4 only have to pay $599, so I guess Adobe is saying you have to upgrade every year or we are going to penalize you with a higher cost for our products. Or I will have to buy the two full versions for $1,000.00.  I have been in business for along time and I think that Adobes policy is costing them hundreds of thousands of dollars or even more.  I for one will not purchase Adobe products again.  I figure I have spent around 10K-12K on Adobe software.  I have sent at least 10 people to Adobe for photoshop or even more to Lightroom.  It is a sad day that I will not be buying any new software from Adobe because of their rigid policies.  Once again I feel they are shooting themselves in the foot.

  • Adobe Form Digital Signature using WDA

    Hi,
I have implemented Interactive Adobe Form using WDA, with one Signature Field.
I need to set and verify the status of the Digital Signature.
    1) Is it possible to sign the Adobe form without the user selecting the Digital Id, basically what is needed to implement automatic signatures (setting and verifying)?
    2) Once the data is filled online, the form is to be distributed or downloaded. How to apply security parameters to Form in this case (like pass protected etc). From SAP documentation, I understand we need to use Adobe Policy Server. Can we install this server on the Java stack of SAP WAS. Are there any other alternatives to implement such features?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Chitrali Shah

I realize there is quite a bit of crossover between the two topics, but becuase you want to know about digital signature and specifically offline security; this question would probably be better asked in the Adobe Interactive Forms forum:

However I'm not going to lock the thread, as the WDA forum you will find many Forms experts as well and might find a solution.  I just think you might have better luck in the other forum. This is perhas a rare case where double posting would be appropriate as long as you go back and update both threads with any solutions.
It sounds like you may have already found it, but about all I can offer on the subject is the link to the latest version of the online help on the subject:

  • Adobe logo not displaying on my web page

First I would apologise if I've posted this query on the wrong thread -though inadvertently.
I have a website on which I've uploaded pdf files of my own data. The link on the page works very well and opens the pdf file swiftly.
But my dilemma is that why isn't the Adobe logo being displayed alongside the link as I have seen on almost every link on other websites.
(1). How can I add an Adobe logo alongside the link to pdf file?
(2). What is the Adobe policy (if any) and terms for distributing/adding a download link for Acrobat Reader?
    Please advise!
    Thanks.

*I tried by adding extra PDF and by renaming files with underscores. But

*Should there be an extra folder in my httpdocs wherein I should add my pdf
    through FTP?*
Please ignore this message if I should find solution somewhere else!
