my adobe read out loud will not respond I have adobe reader X also when I trouble shoot It tells me that adobe reader is not compatible with windows 7 I down loaded what adobe acrobat recommended what can I do

Just been trying to sort this one out myself, I noticed that you tried re-installing Adobe Reader with the same result.
Could it be that, when you installed the first time / updated and then re-installed, Adobe Reader Protected Mode was automatically re-applied by default. Read Out Loud will not function while in Protected Mode.
You must disable it to hear Read Out Loud document reader, it is quite safe to disable this additional security function, and the only way to make it work.
To disable Adobe Reader XI Protected Mode
- Open Adobe Reader
- Click menu item Edit
- Select Preferences
- Preference panel opens
- Select Security (Enhanced) in Categories list
- Uncheck Enable Protected Mode at Startup
- Dialog opens Click Yes
- Close Preferences
- Close/Restart Adobe Reader
- Open a document you wish to read
- Activate Read Out Loud
- Choose Option to read Page or Whole Document
- or setup for Reading with the Accessability Assistant.
Hope this is the answer you are looking for, my Read Out Loud feature is functioning fine now it had me baffled for a while, thought my sound card was malfunctioning.

Read Out Loud reading punctuation

Help! I am using Adobe Read Out Loud with students with disabilities that benefit from hearing their textbooks read aloud while following along with the textbook on the screen. For some reason, Adobe Read Out Loud is now reading the punctuation in the text. Commas, periods, etc. and, as you can imagine, it is distracting to the students. I feel like I have looked everywhere in Adobe Acrobat for a setting to change, but could not find one. I searched on this forum and using Google and see that others are experiencing a similar issue, but have not come across a solution.

It would appear that it is only doing this when 'Alex's' voice is used...the other voices read from the begining all the way to the end...
could it simply be a fault associated with alex voice??

Are you running into this problem with all PDFs, or just a select few? If the PDF was created from a scan, and OCR wasn't performed (so there's no "live" text), then there wouldn't be anything to read aloud.
If the issue occurs regardless of the PDF you have open, has anything changed on your system since Read Out Loud worked for you?

Read out Loud problem in Adobe Reader X

I tried the Read out loud feature of Adobe Reader X, but it does not seem to be working.
I am using Adobe Reader X on windows XP sp3
when i click activate read out loud
it gives me to more options in the view menu to read current page and read entire file to the end
when I click either option, the option to pause and stop appears in the view menu but i dont hear anything.
what should I do?

Yes, this is mostly pie in the sky. We're interested in taking the
audio from a document read aloud by Adobe Reader and converting it into
a format that can be burned to CD. I'm assuming that we would simply have to record the aloud reading--but I was wondering if Reader gurus might have a better approach.

How do I get my Adobe Digital book read out loud.

I am disabled and need to use text to speech. I purchased an ebook which is an Adobe Digital Edition. I have really enjoyed using Adobe Reader with the Read Out Loud feature and was shocked when I discovered I could not use this feature on the Digital Editions. If I knew Adobe cared so little about the disabled I would sought the book in a different format.
Does anyone out there have any ideas on how to be able to get this expensive book read for me?

I do not know quite what you mean by "paid for them to transfer all my data and programs over"... I'm hoping you are not implying that you simply copied (had copied) programs from your application folder to your new computer.
You still need to go through the installation process to install Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.

I installed a Cepstral voice as the default on my Mac OSX 10.3.9. When I try to use the Adobe Reader "Read Out Loud" function, Adobe Reader 7.1 crashes. It didn't do this before installing the new voice. How can I fix this? THanks, Pam

Adobe Reader 7.1 crashes on Mac when selecting "Read Out Loud"

I installed a Cepstral voice (5.1) on my Mac OSX 10.3.9 as the default voice to use with Adobe Reader 7.1. Now, when I select "Read Out Loud" from the View menu to activate the text-to-speech, Adobe Reader crashes. How can I fix this? Thanks!

Using Adobe X1, Windows 8 64bit. When trying to have a document Read Out Loud, says page is empty. any suggestions.

The usual cause of this is because the page is a scanned image of text and contains no searchable text. Best way to tell is to use the select tool to try and select individual words. If you can't, that' the reason.

I have been trying to access the Read Out Loud feature in the most recent version of Adobe Reader for Windows. Making it for Windows 8 has lost most of the useful things about Adobe Reader. Is there a version of Adobe that in in a window with menus and features other than show page, navigate, and save?
Currently I have to email PDFs to an email associated with a Macbook that I have access to, and listen to the PDF on the Mac.

Read out Loud isn't working in Adobe Reader.

I have clicked on the "view" tab - clicked on "Read out Loud" - clicked on " Read to the end of document" and I have no sound. I have checked sound on computer and it is turned on..Help I need to do a assignment.

The fact it's a PDF or that you see text on the page doesn't mean it's actually text. Most likely, it's just an image that contains text in it. As such, the ROL feature can't recognize that text and can't do anything with it. If you try to select it with the mouse you'll see that it selects the entire page.
There's nothing you can do about it in Reader, though. You need to run Text Recognition on the file using Adobe Acrobat.
