Adobe reader 11 cannot open in protected mode due to incompatibilty with your system configuration

I have deployed Adobe reader 11 is our IT Enviorment using SCCM 2012 and the following warning Adobe reader cannot open in protected mode due to incompatibilty with your system configuration. Would you like to open Adobe reader with Protected Mode disabled is being displayed. When tried opening PDF files. Is there any way to isolate the cause without needing to disable the protected mode without needing to disable protected mode from Adobe reader settings.

To the best of my knowledge: no.

  • Issue with latest Adobe Reader 11.0.10 - Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due to incompatibility with your system configuration.

Since updating to the most recent Adobe Reader v11.0.10, getting an Adobe Reader Protected Mode: Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due do an incompatibility with your system configuration.  Would you like to open Adobe Reader with Protected Mode disabled?

The solution I was looking for was to launch Adobe Reader in Protected Mode.
I could not identify issues preventing Protected Mode from starting.  What ended up working, was to do a complete uninstall, followed by a reinstall.  Now we can load Reader in Protected Mode.

  • Adobe reader cannot open in protected mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration.

I keep getting the error message: Adobe reader cannot open in protected mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration.
I have Windows 7 Home basic Service pack 1 and have already uninstalled and re-downloaded Adobe reader XI twice. I have also read other threads on this forum, and
tried the suggestions, including running Kaspersky anti-rootkit, no threats were found.
My Adobe reader shortcut icon shows a small blue and yellow shield in the bottom right (I uninstalled Windows essential protection), but the problem prevails.
I would rather get to the root of the error and fix it and not just disable protection mode!
    Please help.

    Hi,
Please refer to the solution in:- Error: “Acrobat Failed to Load core DLL”.
Also, may want to try disabling all Non-Microsoft Startup Services.

  • Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due to a problem with your system configuration.

From Adobe website:  "Note that this list is not regularly maintained as Protected Mode now runs transparently in the background and it is unlikely that users will experience issues."
This explanation on the Adobe website does not explain what the problem is with the "system configuration".  What is the system configuration problem?

    Hi Steve,
As mentioned on the troubleshooting page as well normally application like antiviruses, encryption and system maintenance tools causes this kind of problem. These software software intercepts some system calls for the Reader sandbox. Could you please check if you have any of these kind of software installed? Could you please answer following question then I would be in better position to help you?
    1. Version of Reader being used
    2. OS
    3. What happens if you choose launch unprotected? Do you see a failure or Reader launches?
    Thanks

How do I remove this and get the progam working again?

I wasn't sure how to reply back through the website.  I am using Adobe
Reader XI.  The message thay I get when I try to open the progrqm is
Acrobat failed to load its core DLL and my operating system is Windows 7
Home Premium.  The program used to work, then, all of sudden stopped.

  • Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode

I apologize if this is listed in the wrong category.
Recently, all users on our server started receiving a message: "Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration. Would you like to open Adobe Reader with Protected mode disabled?" The users are presented with 3 options:
    Open with Protected Mode disabled
Always open with Protected Mode disabled
Do not open with Protected Mode disabled.
All the users can click "Open with Protected Mode disabled" and the PDF opens fine. I know that I can disable Protected Mode but I would rather not have to disable a security feature.
I have read this link: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/protected-mode-troubleshooting-reader.html and none of the provided solutions seem to apply to us. I have tried a rebooting the server and uninstalling/reinstalling Adobe. Neither of these options worked. There is not an antivirus currently running on this server. We are not using Smart Cards. I have checked the Security permissions and they seem to be fine. I can not think of any recent changes to this server, but it has run just fine for years now.
    OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
    Acrobat Version is 11.0.10
Is anyone aware of anything else that could cause this message? Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
That option is not there on my version though. I am using version 11.0.10

What is your operating system?  Reader version?

    Hi sdc01522,
Please help me in understanding your problem better as on normal Win7 machines we don't get these issues.
Can you please let me know the following:
    1) Exact operating system like Win7 or WinXP or Win8 (32bit or 64 bit) (Home, Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate) (Goto Computer , right click and you'll see the details in Windows Edition and system)
    2) Any antivirus/ antimalware/ encryption software installed in your system? (It might be stopping Adobe Reader to open with protected mode enabled)
    3) Are you login with any specific kind of user or normal administrator user ?
    4) Is your system a part of any special file system?
    5) Have you installed Adobe Reader at the default location (For 32-bit systems it is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0 and 64-bit it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0 ) or any other location?
    Thanks,

None of the threads or other troubleshooting tips I've found have resolved this.

Your log file shows you to be running v10.1.0.534. Could you please update to the latest version which is v10.1.1 and then try again. You can get it from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/
Also, has a rule been created in the BeyondTrust Software application you appear to be using to allow Reader X to open in Protected Mode? That application might be interfering with the way Reader X operates. There's a demo on their site which might help: http://www.beyondtrust.com/Products/PowerBroker-Desktops-Windows-Edition/Product-Demo/

  • Adobe Reader Cannot Open Ebook

Suddenly adobe reader cannot open my pdf ebook due to the
error message that says it is either not a supported file type or
because te file has been damaged? How do I fix it? If until now
hundreds of customers downloaded the ebook and had no problem
    opening it?

Alan...thank you so very much for your instant reply. I did
locate a backup copy of pdf file that isn't damaged. Now if you
don't mind (technical I'm not) I delete the old pdf file first
right? Now what? Please give me steps 1 to ? as to what to do next?
I can copy backup pdf but how do I get it into line-up of files on
far right panel in DW8? I have been editing site using ftp so that
changes are done on site immediately. Can I insert this new pdf
file into the list of files showing while in the ftp mode? Then it
is instant and for certain that the new pdf file works? "Generate
the pdf file again?" Sounds easy but please break down generate.
    Thanks for your patience.

  • System configuration will not allow reader to open in Protected Mode?

Suddenly system configuration will not allow Adobe Reader to open in Protected Mode. What do I reset?

I just don't know exactly what I am looking for.
If you only have one trace it helps to have a hypothesis to test.  Otherwise if you have two which are essentially the same except for one significant difference, as I mentioned you should be able to filter coarsely, spot a divergence and then investigate
the cause of it.  In a general scenario I imagine you would only have Process & Thread as a coarse filter, e.g. see the dispatching of tasks and threads and the loading of their modules.  However, for your case, it may be sufficient to compare
Network events, spot a divergence in that sequence and then dive in to see what more differences there were which caused it.
    Good luck

  • Adobe reader cannot open protected mode

I downloaded and installed Reader X,  and get the see the message adobe reader cannot open protected mode due to configuration errors.
The link provides no information as to what the problem is.
I have Windows XP SP3 (with all the updates) and using Avira AntiVir as the antivirus.
How do I get to the protected mode?

    Hi,
The problem does not seem to be with Avira Antivirus Personal Edition.
Are there no unsupported configurations mentioned in the link
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html#main_Unsupported_configurations
    on your system?
Also please let me know the following details:
    1) Was ReaderX installed at the default path or the installer path changed manually?
    2) Are the PDF files you are trying to open kept on any local disk or any kind of network share?
    3) Please disable all the antispyware, antimalware and firewall installed in your system and then verify.
    4) Please tell the kind of user(admin/standard/guest ) who is trying to open PDF files.
    Thanks .

  • Cannot open in Protected Mode - Not McAfee

We just installed Adobe Reader X. Many were getting the "cannot open in protected mode" so we applied the McAfee hotfix 613017 and added ACRORD32.EXE to the buffer overfolow exclusion as recommended.  It works on most.  Bust some still get the popup that it cannot open in protected mode.  I removed McAfee completely and we still get the error.  Is there a way to debug Reader X so I can foind out what is stopping it from going in protected mode?

First, take a look at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html#main_Unsupported_configurations an see if anything applies. 10.0.1 will be out today, where some of the  issues listed here will get resolved.

message states "adobe reader cannot open "resume, ;wps because it's either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)

Microsoft Word Viewer should be able to view .wps files; most likely the installation of the viewer will fix the file association.
