Adobe Reader 9 - Windows XP Home

How do I set Adobe Reader as the default?

I use Windows XP Home.
When I try to open .pdf E-Mail attachments (or any .pdf file) a small window opens called ASCII Filter Options. Within the window are 3 pull down lists called Character Set, Default Font and Language. When I click OK a document opens but the content is all garbled.
How do I get rid of the new window so Adobe opens any .pdf files.
I just downloaded Adobe Reader 9, but the problem persists.

    Try the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
If that does not solve your problem, please provide some details.

  • Cannot install Adobe Reader on Windows 7 Home Premium

The download is not a problem. I have tried the fixes on the Adobe page and through Google Search. Help!
The installation gives this error at about 97% complete:
Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {B708EB72-AA82-3EB7-8BB0-D845BA35C93D}. HRESULT: 0x80070002.

There are many error messages that we see posted day after day in this forum, but yours is definitely a new one - I have never seen that before!  My first reaction: it may have been a fluke; reboot and try the install again.
But I suspect that you have already tried that; with the same result?
Can you try if the MSI installer works better: http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.00/en_US/AdbeRdr11000_en_US.msi (Reader 11.0.0, US-English version).

Do not run Adobe Reader 10.0(download from Adobe website) on Windows Vista® Home Basic(SP2), there is always a message from Windows system: Windows DEP closed Adobe Reader, and I do not adjust the DEP of  Adobe Reader. What can I do?

No. I cannot open Adobe Reader by itself.
Then try downloading "protected11.zip (338 bytes)", unzip, then run it. Finally,Adobe Reader can not be opened.

  • Adobe Reader for Windows Phone cannot open older PDF versions?

I've found that Adobe Reader for Windows Phone displays the following error when I try to open certain PDF documents: "There was an error opening the document".
After doing some limited testing I found that it can successfully open PDF documents which were saved as "PDF version: 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)", but the error appears when it tries to open documents saved as the older format "PDF version: 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x)". (I am checking the filetype version by opening the documents in Adobe Reader X on my PC and looking at the document properties).
My phone is a HTC 7 Mozart running Windows Phone 7.5. I noticed the problem when I was using the SkyDrive app to try and look at some PDF files I have saved in SkyDrive. SkyDrive downloads the file and then passes it to the Adobe Reader app to view. It works when I look at a newer version 1.5 PDF but not the older v1.3 type. Unfortunately my HP Photosmart 5510 scanner outputs scans as PDF files and only in the older file version.
I've tried reinstalling the SkyDrive app and the Adobe Reader app on my phone. (The Adobe Reader app is version 10.1.1, build 20120919).
Is this a known limitation, or is this a bug?
If this is a limitation that won't be fixed - is there an easy way I can convert my files to the newer file type? (Adobe Reader X on my PC doesn't seem to offer a way to convert existing files)
    Thanks!

  • Printing with Adobe Reader in Windows 8?

I am using Windows 8 which automatically took me to the new version of Adobe Reader. You know, the clean screen with no toolbars. However it's not apparent where to go to print the document that autoloads in .pdf format. The hidden toolbar that comes up at the bottom doesn't have a print icon. Thanks for your help. Drinian256.

No point in me starting a new thread.
I have yet to find another one on the same issue - but i'll keep digging.
Installing adobe reader for Windows 8 seems to force us to install as an app.
I am unable to find anyway to print from this app.
    Any ideas?

  • Adobe Reader on Windows 7 64BIT

    Hi All
since version 10 (X) of adobe reader our windows 7 64bit machines take an age to open PDF's over 10 seconds for most, regardless of if the file is on the local machine or network
They currently have version 10.1.0 installed.
On all our vista pcs it runs fine and we dont appear to have the issue on our windows 7 32bit machines
Does anyone else have this issue
Does any one know how to fix this issue
    Thanks in advance
    Neil

    Hi All
    Just a quick update
We disabled Antivirus and Antispam and still had the issue
Tried this Go to Edit / preferences / general - the uncheck box "Enable protected mode at startup" This got rid of the lag in opening adobe docs.
    Still no good
tried this Open the reader, select Edit, Preferences then select Internet from the Categories.  This should display the Web browser options page, untick "Allow speculative downloading in the background".  This increased the speed of opening pdfs for me hope it helps.
    Still have the issue
The only thing we have found now is if we open Adobe reader first and open all other pdf from the open menu its is fine and fast, we get the issue when we douible click the PDF to open it
    cheers

  • Authorisations to run Adobe Reader under Windows 8

Under windows 8 with adobe reader 11, I have not been able to launch the program. Each time the system says I don't have the authorisations required (even when I follow instructions to get additional authorisations which I seem unable to obtain despite using the normal sequence of "properties" , "security" " advanced  etc. and in this case I get the following message in the "target" slot"
The name "c:\program files\adobe\READER 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" is not valid. Verify that the routing (?) and the name of the file are correct
when I click on  the Security tag although the location of the programes of Adobe Reader 11 are in fact in the location detailed above. It would seem that windows 8 has a security system that I don't seem to be able to adjust. (I have used Acrobat under Vista and under XP without these problems) . At the moment and after three days of efforts I am still incapable of getting Reader 11 to run..

    (a) After installation of Reader 11.0, the following text appears on the
screen after either double clic on the screen icone or clic on c: directory
    (c:\programmes\adobe\Reader 11.0 :-
    Title: Reader 11.0
Vous ne disposez pas des autorisations requises pour acceder à ce dossier
(Translation (not on screen): You don't have the authorisations required to
    accede to this file)
(There are two tabs ("Continue" and "Cancel")
If one clics on "Continuer" the screen reads:
    Reader 11.0
L'acces à ce dossier vous a été refusé. Pour acceder à ce dossier vous
devez utiliser l'onglet de securité :
Translation: Acces to this file for you has been denied. To acces this
file  you should use the "Security" tab.
    One tab: "Fermer" (Close)
If one then does a right clic on the Reader 11.0 screen icone, and then
clic on "properties" then clic on "Security", I get a listing of "groupes or
users"  which for this computer gives the following : "System", "John
    Willis([email protected]"), "Administrateur (rulepar\Administrateur),
"Administrateurs (rulepar\Administrateurs), "Interactif". Each of these has a  check
    mark against "Controle Totale",
"Modification", "Lecture et execution", lecture", "Ecriture" and the three
"rulepar" entries each have a check mark against "Autorisations  spéciales".
If one clics on the tab "Avancé" then
on the "Autorisations tab  'john willis ([email protected]_
    (mailto:[email protected]) ), 'Administrateur  (rulepar\Administrateur), "INTERACTIF",
"Administrateurs  (rulepar\administrateurs), "Systeme"  all have "Controle Totale"
,  "Interactif" has "Lecture et Execution"  and "Administrateyr
(rulepar\Administrateur) and "john willis ([email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) )
    have "Special"
on the "Partage" (share?) tab there are two entries (Type = Autoriser"
Principal for "Administrateurs (rulepar\Administrateurs) and "Tout le monde
    (everybody)
on the Audit tab there is nothing and on the Acces Effectif page there is
"Select a user but nothing else.
The title of this page is c:\users\Public@Desktop\Adobe Reader XI. lnk
under a page title "Parameters of advanced security for Adobe Reader XI

  • Adobe reader issues windows 8 Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly compo

adobe reader issues windows 8 Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {B708EB72-AA82-3EB7-8BB0-D845BA35C93D}. HRESULT: 0x80070422.
I have tried many things to try to install it and I have been unsucessful. Please help I have windows 8 64bit.

This did not resolve my issue, it actually made things worse. I did what
you had told me to do below, and it did not work. Tried to access the
internet to respond back to you and my computer was not able to reach the
internet. Tried reaching adobe support and not was able to, even tried
calling was on the phone for 20 minutes and no one answered. I was not able
to re install windows. Contacted Asus from another computer and they were
not able to help me reinstall windows They had asked me to ship my computer
back to them, due to them not being able to resolve the issue and help me
reinstall windows. I luckily had a backup on my external hard drive and was
able to reinstall windows 8. Spent over an hour and half trying to fix
that. Here I am still not able to install adobe reader. I was very unhappy
with what I was told to do and it gave me this issue.
    ·  Open an Administrator command prompt: Right-click Start > All Programs >
Accessories > Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator. Click Allow
    for the elevation prompt
    ·  In the command prompt, type the command below:
    fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\
The line above assumes that C: is the drive in which Vista is installed. If
it is installed on another drive like D:, change the drive letter
    appropriately.
    ·  Restart the system.
    ·  Install Acrobat or Adobe Reader again.

  • How do I get rid of embedded adobe reader process windows and taskbar icons?

In the lastest versions of Adobe reader I've come across the issue of finding an adobe task bar icon and a small adobe reader process window for each PDF document that I have open witin an Internet explorer tab. This is driving me crazy. At first I thought it was jut an issue with the machine that I'm on, but I have now seen this happen in multiple computers. Anyone have any ideas on how to keep these from clogging my screen and taskbar?
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Internet Explorer version 10.0.9200.16686, and Adobe Reader 11.0.4.

Group similar buttons on the taskbar
Taskbar buttons represent open programs on your computer. When you have several programs  open at once, the taskbar might seem crowded with buttons. To help organize the taskbar and save space, you can group similar taskbar buttons so that all of the open files from one program are grouped into one taskbar button, like this:
    Grouped taskbar buttons
Open Taskbar and Start Menu Properties by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Taskbar and Start Menu.
Select the Group similar taskbar buttons check box so that it is checked. (To turn off grouping, clear the Group similar taskbar buttons check box.)

How to insert pdf file to adobe reader in windows phone 8? which directory?

An other way is to copy the pdf with Windows explorer into the path /documents of the phone. Open Office and choose Adobe Reader. The pdf will be copyed in the Sandbox of the Reader and You may read it. You may delete the PDF in the documents path. It will still be in the Readers sandbox. All without any cloud ;-)!

How do I stop pop up that asks me, Do you want to save changes to doc... before closing? I have made no changes only printed the file. Using Adobe Reader DC, Windows 7 64 bit.
This is very annoying and we need this stopped as we have made no changes to any of the adobe files. Please advise how to do this.

I first tried the version without the deflated stream (so everything uncompressed) against the online repair tool to check/analyse it @ https://www.pdf-tools.com/osa/repair.aspx
And it says no error found, but the reader still want to save it when closing so i still had no clue at this point.
Fortunately, i finally found what was wrong with my generated PDF.
In my xref table, each object reference was not end by a full EOL, i only did put a newline char.
Now i have "carriage return" "newline" which is the full EOL and the reader is happy and close the file silently.
As suspected i did not follow correctly the specs on xref table
Now i'll go and figure what i did wrong with the deflate filter
    Thanks for your help.
