Adobe Reader X installation issue

Adobe Reader X installation caused me a very strange, unusual problem. My OS is Win XP SP3 and I have already installed Adobe Acrobat v.9.4.5.
The installation process went fine, but when my system had to be restarted after the installation at the domain login the system requested me to change my password, because of the expiring. It was very strange, because the PW has been changed 2 weeks before regarding the official 3 months period rule. I did the change now again, but after that I could not reach anyway a https web site (with certificate) and additionally has been destroyed my predefined signature in  the Adobe Acrobat.
Well, after a longer wrestling with my system I could restore the missed functionalities (I had to remove the Reader too for this). However later I needed again the Reader for a test purpose and after the new installation exactly the same problem happend as above I described!
Has someone faced with any similar case?
BR: Dzsenix

Thanks for the info. Maybe that would be nice to build into the Reader and/or Acrobat a function to check any existing installed Adobe versions on the PC and warn the user if there would be any incompatibility issue during the installation of a new Adobe product. Many no-name programs can do that............ The great Adobe no would be able to do that???????

  • Adobe Reader XI installation issue

I have installed Adobe Reader XI on my iMac but cannot find an icon anywhere to launch it. When I try to read a pdf I get a pop-up stating:
Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser.
How do I launch Adobe Reader if I cannot find/see the icon?

It may be worth making sure, if you haven't already, that you are looking at a list of names rather than looking at icons. Icons can hide themselves, names can't.

  • Adobe Reader 9 installation freezes computer

upon running the installation for adobe reader 9, setup gets to 99.90 percent, then a new window comes up, similar to the installation window. Estimated time remaining gets to 9 seconds, then the installation freezes, and so does everything else. A cold reboot is required...
I'm currently using foxit reader to read PDFs (Also, programs that print to PDF files cause a similar freeze.
    Computer details:
    Vista 32 bit Home premium.
    3gb ram
300+gb hard disk space more than 50gb free
    Dell inspiron 530 desktop
Spyware doctor - Avira antivir - and Threatfire installed
Interestingly enough, this is being typed in an open firefox window as the installer is frozen, along with the desktop and taskbar.
    Additional details:
Reader (at that time version 8)
Along with PDFcreator both worked perfectly on my system
After reinstalling windows to clear my system *and changing antivirus to Avira - note no security issues are flagged by avira when installer runs*
Pdf creator went buggy. Pdfs printed by PDF creator would freeze when Reader tried opening them. (Although after restarting the system those same pdfs could be opened)
An attempt to repair the Adobe reader installation for version 8 failed, Then Opening Reader alone would freeze my computer. And I had to crudely uninstall Reader as a result. *May have left files - but I've scoured the Temp folders for them*
Anyway, installing adobe reader 9 then led to the error. (Interestingly, adobe reader 9 did appear installed after a cold reboot, and worked, however it dissapeared after the next normall restart.
&I've tried installing using a new acc, same error.
    &FOxit reader works
&Adobe version 8 does not appear on my system.
&All normal computer functions seem to work..(Although a video on Gamespot recently displayed buggy stuff, not related i think)
    &Installations of other programs work
&i've tried installing in a different directory
&Spyware doc, Threatfire, and Avira scans come up clean.
    Just restarted *cold reboot*
The system took a long time to shut down *held the power button for longer*
And the hard disk didnt stop spinning for a very long time...
It also took a very long time to start the computer
Also, running an installer makes me undo the changes made by the adobe reader 9 installation, since it was suspeneded.

Use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup to remove vestiges of any version of
Reader in your Registry. Then turn off all antivirus and spyware
    programs. Then try to re-install

  • Adobe reader 11 installation fails. error message: there was an error installing adobe reader. adobe

Adobe reader 11 installation fails. error message: there was an error installing adobe reader. adobe reader installation error. null. tried using adobe cleaning  tool. using XP sp3. seems that adobe 11 is not completely uninstalling. this is because when adobe reader  11 is removed  from add/remove program. when pc is rebooted, adobe reader 11 entry comes back but it is  like false entry as no size given. please help to succesfully install Adobe Reader 11.  also tried:
    1. uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled  2. installed from different locations  3. removed adobe key from
local machine and tried to install

Seriously, I do not understand what is going on - I have never seen this before!
The MSI installers are usually used in corporate environments to roll out installs on multiple machines.  However, you can use it like a normal (EXE) installer; it will just go through fewer steps than the EXE.  Not sure if it will improve the situation, but it's worth a try.
Another thing to try is to uninstall these remaining entries using Microsoft Fixit: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall - also no guarantee, but also worth trying.

  • Adobe Reader 9 - access issue

I have the latest Reader: but I find I cannot access PDF documents from saved emails & directly from My Documents - I get the message 'H:\programme files\Adobe\Reader9.0\Eula.exe Windows cannot access the specified path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item' I am computer administrator.
    I have Windows SP3
I use ZoneAlarm Pro & anti-virus (just in case this might be relevant)
Can anyone assist with an explanation & solution?
    Regards

re Adobe Reader 9 access issue, 20 Dec
It appears this is not an Adobe Reader issue at all. I have had the same trouble downloading an update to an unrelated programme.
The solution appears to be in ZoneAlarm Pro - I have set the trust level and access permissions for Internet Explorer to 'super trusted' and 'allow' (programme control - programmes), and this seems to have worked.
Other forums point the finger at restrictions in IE7 Enhanced Security feature, and to similar restrictions in some anti-virus/anti spyware programmes. Also, some .exe files for download come automatically blocked, & need unblocking (right-click the .exe, choose properties, then general tab, where there is an 'unblock' button at the bottom.
    Regards, & happy New Year

  • Cannot Delete Adobe Reader 9 Installer after failed download

I tried to download Adobe Reader 9 and the installation froze around 83%.  After multiple attempts I tried downloading an older version (Adobe 8) and it worked but the installation folder for Adobe 9 is still on my desktop and it will not let me delete it. I have already tried using the Windows Install cleanup tool but it did not work. Any other ideas on how I can get rid of this installation program?

Thanks.. I managed to find a way to make it work.. I had no Adobe Reader in my list of programs when I went to Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove..  I took a  chance and deleted Acrobat.com.. that allowed me to reload the latest v of Reader.  I hope it didn't mess anything else up.

I had same situation. Was able to delete by the following: (don't know why)
In Windows Explorer dragged the Adobe AIR folder from Desktop to another folder (which
removed it from the desk top display). Then just deleted it from the other folder.
    Hope it works for you.

  • Adobe Reader 9 Installer on Desktop?

I just installed Adobe Reader 9 on a new Win Vista machine and it intalled three icons on my desktop: Adobe Reader 9, Adobe Reader 9 Installer, Acrobat.com. I understand why I need the Adobe Reader 9, but why were the other two left on my desktop after the intall? Can I delete the Adobe Reader 9 Installer and the Acroat.com? I don't really want them on my desktop if I don't need them. Thanks for the help. Mac

I have the same thing. I use Vista home Premium
I notice the adobe reader 9 installer folder is full of stuff. I wonder if you can delete it after reader 9 is installed?
Also I have adobe Air in my programs. Can that be deleted too?
Now when I first downloaded reader 9 I clicked ok for the Adobe DLM active x and that allowed something called "getPlus for Adobe" from NOS Microsystems. When I installed adobe Reader 9 on another computer, I did not click ok to Adobe DLM active x and i did NOT get reader 9installer on my dek top nor the getPlus for Adobe
I wonder if you don't use Adobe DLM active X and if you delete Adobe Air, Acrobat.com, doe you still have the newer secure Reader 9 functions?

I am really glad if you guys can help me to figure this out.Coz i love my HP laptop...thanks

First, I would use the latest version of Reader XI. But you need to empty your temp folder. You can have a temp folder off the C: drive and you can have a temp folder in your Personal Settings Folder.

  • Adobe Reader 9 Installer

Now that I am running Adobe Reader XI can I delete the Adobe Reader 9 Installer?

There is no longer a need for AR9, so yes. For future questions on Reader, try the Reader forum.

  • Adobe Reader 9 install issues

OK new to this forum so excuse me if I break protocol
I downlaoded the new adobe reader (version 9) and also clicked ok for the ADOBE DLM Active X
After download completed, I noticed the following programs added to my system
    Acrobat.com
    Adobe Reader 9
    Adobe Reader 9 installer
    Adobe Air
    getPlus for ADOBE
Obviously reader9 I wanted. But the acrobat.com and adobe air I do not want.I also got something called getPlus for Adobe which comes from NOS Microsystems so thats not part of adobe.
    Questions-
1 Did I pull down some malice?
    2. What is getPlus and who is NOS Microsystems and are they part or partner with ADOBE?
    3. I really only wantreader 9 so can I delete Acrobat.com;
Adobe Reader 9 installer; Adobe Air; and getPlus for ADOBE?
    4. If I delete these above items, will my reader 9 still be secure?

I downloaded (5 times) Adobe Reader 9. At 98.7% of the installation process, I get this error message.."The feature you are tying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
"Click OK again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "AdbRdr812_en_us.msi" in the box below.
I have no idea where this file may be, and fully expect Adobe to be able to find its own files!
Since attempting to download Reader 9. I have lost the ability to read .pdf files online, with the error message Can not launch Acrobat".
After Acrobat -says- it's installed itself, I get this error message...
"Error 1714.The older version of Adobe Reader 9 cannot be removed.
    Contact your technical support group."
I am my only technical support group, and really really don't care for this rigamarole, losing "features" I had.
    What is going on?

  • Adobe Reader 9, Installer error 1635

Hi, I have a problem updating Adobe Reader 9.4.2. to version 9.4.3
Direct after starting the update I receive the installer error:
"1635 This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."
I have tried this MS fix (MicrosoftFixit50123.msi) but it did not help.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971187/en
I must say that a few days ago I also had an issue updating Adobe FlashPlayer. It would tell me at boot there was an update available, and after giving it the OK it started downloading, and installing, but although the installing gave no errors at all, both the FlashPlayers for Internet Explorer and Firefox were NOT updated, and only after a lot of these 'fake' updates I noticed it because a following update for Firefox told me my FlashPlayer was out of date while I saw FlashPlayer update that same morning.
Downloading and un-installing/re-installing both FlashPlayers did the trick...  But now, a few days later another Adobe product has a problem updating.
I have not yet re-installed the reader, but since I have seen it work for 4 years, and since it MAY be related to Adobe Flash, I would like to see if someone can shine some light on this issue first.
I work with Windows XP Prof completely updated ( except... Adobe Reader).
    Thanks.
    Edit:
Meanwhile i have tried to uninstall Adobe Reader, but the same error persist.

As far as I can see the problem is solved.
You gave me the tip for the Windows Cleanup Utility, but the support for the program has stopped because some removals did damage to other installs. So I had some second thoughts about it.
But your idea brought me another, to use the Revo Uninstaller.
    http://www.revouninstaller.com/
    * Made a system restore point
    * Downloaded Revo uninstaller Pro 30 day trial, but full version.
    * Run Revo ( ! Adobe Reader 9 had 664 registry keys with 902 values...)
    * Needed a reboot to remove last files from the Adobe reader 9.
    * Roughly checked if other Adobe products still run...
    * Downloaded and installed Adobe Reader X  ( ? X ? It is version 10.0.1 after updating)
    * Did an update of Reader X
    * Needed reboot after update.
Ankit_Jain, the link you gave for the Reader 9 download is an US version, but I needed a Dutch (NL) version. That's why I searched for the Reader on the Adobe site, but came on the Reader X page. I thought the X stands for 'the latest version'. But it is not.
So I have a functioning reader back, with one difference:  it is not Reader 9, but Reader X . I really don't know what the difference is, but what I do know is that the install takes quite a long time, and, if you don't uncheck the box on the site for the (free) McAfee scanner, it will also install that.
I will try what I have for now, and if I may find other problems around it I will surely report back.
    Thanks all for your reactions

  • Adobe Reader 11 Installation Package is getting more over 500 MB after applying 11.0.0.1 MSP Patch

    Hello,
I try to create an installable MSI Package with the MSP 11.0.0.1 applied to the 11.0.0 MUI Package. Then I want to deploy this to our clients in the company. I have done this with Adobe Reader X a couple of times very successful. What I have noticed now the original 11.0.0 Package has a size of 134MB if I apply the msp patch (the msp patch itself has 10MB) as usual the new package get a size of 583MB. This is too large and with Version 10 this was no issue at all. Does anyone has an idea why this is happening or seen the same behaivour?
    Thanks
    Ben

Did you find a solution ? I have the same problem with patch 11.0.03 and can't find any information...
Are we the only two that are bothered by this ?

  • Adobe Reader X install issues

Right now when i try to install Adobe reader X it begins to install the program and then stops part way and tells me I have a newer verision already installed... but I do not! I have one verison that will read basic PDF but I need it to read the more complicated documents that Adobe reader X uses that have embeded graphs and such in them that I have to edit. I am on a Macbook Pro with the latests update of Mac OS but still I am having issues and I am not sure how to fix it. I did the trouble shoot with fox fire safari and google chrome but still have issues. I can down load it but just not install it.
    Thanks

You can try the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
However, no version of the free Reader has editing capabilities.
