Adobe Reader XI does not open

Why won't my adobe reader open and read PDF files. It is very annoying

Google Chrome uses its own PDF viewer.
Regarding Adobe Reader not opening local PDF files, three possibilities
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • Adobe reader sometimes does not open

    Hi there,
On the16 September 2014, there was an update to Adobe Reader version 11.0.09 (we are now at the version 11.0.10). Since then, on one of my computers, I have the following problem: No way to open a pdf file on first try if I (double)click on it (either from my disks, or from Firefox or from Thunderbird - as attached messages, etc.) I have to (double)click on each file several times (even sometimes more than 10 times) and the file finally opens!
Each times, however, a process "AcroRd32.exe" is launched and remains (without opening a new window on the screen), so I have to stop all of these processes manually after a while.
I've look at the web to find some help. No way. I've scanned my computer with several anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-malware softwares. Everything looks clean. I also un-installed Adobe Reader and re-installed it. Same problem. When I was able to do so, I un-installed Adobe Reader and replaced it with a version older that version 11.0.09, and the problem was solved. This looks like a problem in the new version of Adobe Reader and this is more than annoying! I apparently cannot find older versions of this software any more..
    Can someone help?
    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers, Eric.

First thing I would try is to disable Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
P.S. you can find (almost) and old Reader version on the Adobe FTP site ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/

It sounds as if you downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro. If you did, uninstall it. Then repair Adobe Reader.
The free Acrobat account has no connection to any of this.

  • Adobe Reader X does not launch

    Hello,
Frequently, Adobe Reader X does not start on my Windows 7 computer.
I have tried the following methods of access:
    Desktop link
Start > All Program > Adobe Reader X
    Run > C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe
    Environmental specs:
    Computer: ASUS laptop
OS: Windows 7, fully updated as of 2/5/12
    RAM: 8 gigs
    Processor: Intel i5, second gen
    Observations:
Subsequent attempts to launch Adobe Reader X add another "AcroRd.exe *32" image to the "Processes" tab in Windows Task Manager (the count of these images can build up very high).
These same attempts fail to add an "Adobe Reader X" task in the "Applications" tab of Task Manager.
The CPU and Memory were only at 25% of their capacities during the last occurrence.
[Failed] attempts taken to fix problem:
    Repair install
    Complete uninstall / reinstall
    Workaround:
As of now, the only workaround I have found is to restart my computer. If I am lucky, Adobe Reader X will open after booting. Otherwise, I just have to keep restarting until it works.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Sam

Would it be possible for you to:
    1. Temporarily disable the antivirus program and try launching Reader again.
    2. Try launching Reader by right clicking on the shortcut and selecting "Run as Administrator"
If all the above steps produce negative results, please check the Event Logs on your machine (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Evenet Viewer > Windows Logs > Application) and see if you are seeing any error related to Adobe Reader.
Also, could you let me know if launching Adobe Reader produces any error of sorts, or does it simply not launch inspite of a process being spawned.

  • Adobe reader X will not open files on the web

Adobe reader X will not open files on the web.  It works fine on off-line files.

    Hello Ray,
    Please try following steps:
    1. Run the installed Adobe Reader X.
    2. Click on Edit in the menu bar.
    3. Then click on Preferences in the drop down menu list.
    4. Click on the Internet category on the left pane.
    5. Now, make sure that Display PDF in Browser option is checked.
If above steps doesn't work then let me know which Browser you are using, may be we have to do some settings there.

  • Adobe Reader 9 is not opening same files in Browser "Error in this Page"

Adobe Reader 9 is not opening same files in Browser "Error in this Page"
If I try to open this pdf file manually then its works.
The Error comes if I try to open Big Files or some else Files in the Browser.
This Error was not comming with Adobe 8.

To uninstall Adobe Reader, make sure (using Task Manager's Processes tab) that Adobe Reader is not running.  Browser windows should also be closed.
If you still cannot proceed, try in Safe Mode, or use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
P.S. Adobe AIR and Acrobat.com are not directly related to Adobe Reader, and can be uninstalled independently.

  • Adobe Reader XI does not run using Win7 Pro

Trying to run Adobe Reader XI on a PC running Win7 Pro, but it starts, gives gray screen, then shuts down.  However, I can read pdf docs within Google Chrome.
I was running Reader version 10 with no problem, went to upgrade to 11, and now no versions work, as I've tried to uninstall and reinstall ver 9,10,11 but none work.  Help!

I ran the script but does not fix issue.
When I run Adobe Reader or click on a .pdf file on my drive, the Adobe reader program starts, but gives a gray screen while my hard drive spins, then program closes.
    any ideas?

  • Adobe Help (F1) Does Not Open - Applies to All Applications in TCS 3.5

I've installed version 3.5 of the Technical Communications Suite (TCS) on a windows XP 32 computer. All of the applications open as they should but the HELP for each application does not open. Any suggestions?

So you've copied the contents of the DVD into some folder on the server & then are running the installer at a workstation by browsing to it on the server drive. Does the workstation have full admin rights? Remember, if installing on Vista or higher, you have to manually "give" yourself full rights to your C:\ drive - it doesn't happen automatically like it did with XP.
I'm still not positive that installing this way will work correctly. If you think it is, try running the AIR runtime (freebie off the Adobe website) on the workstation & see if the help appears.
Oh & the workstations have access to the internet, right? If they don't, then you'll definitely need to contact Support to get activated.
