Adobe Reader XI running problems

Just upgraded from Reader X to reader XI. Since upgrade each time I open a PDF file I get error message stating Adobe Reader has stopped working and will now close. It states you will be notified once a solution is available. This has been going on for days and am sick of it. Very tempted to delete XI and go back to version X. Version X ran beautifully. I am using an Acer notebook with 1 GB RAM and 250 GB hard drive as well as Windows 7 starter edition. Please advise. Thanks
PS The error message I get is "runtime error" and then the program closes

Thank you for your response Pat
1. It is not a malware issue. I ran Norton scan (full) on my system as i do each week. The computer is clean and free of malware.
2. This problem does not occur when i open Adobe XI by itself. It only happens when i open a PDF document (any PDF document) created  In other words when I open adobe XI without opening any PDF file it opens up alright. As soon as i point to any PDF file and load the file into the Adobe XI reader the software crashes. I get a message from windows stating "runtime error" and something to the effect that Adobe XI encountered a problem and will be closing. It is very frustrating. I have been using adobe for years. As of the last upgrade X EVERYTHING RAN LIKE CLOCKWORK. Once i installed Adobe XI the problems began.
3. I will try some of your other suggestions and let you know. As I am a very busy person i do not have much time to mess with this. My hunch is that it is some type of bug with this particular version of Adobe XI. In the event i cannot fix the prblblem I will uninstall XI and go back to version X which ran like clockwork.
Thank you kindly.

    Hi guidolal,
Are you facing the issue with any pdf's on the Mac.
Have you tried downloading a sample pdf like any Adobe help file from the website and then check if you are able to launch it fine via Reader?
    Regards,
    Rave

  • Adobe Reader XI Installation Problem

I just performed a fresh reload of Windows XP SP3 on one of my computers. After downloading and running the installer for Adobe Reader XI I get the following error pop up:
    Internet Explorer Script Error
An Error has occurred in the script on this page.
    Line:     1
    Char:    10570
    Error:    'ActionLaunchReader' is undefined.
    Code:    0
    URL:     http://127.0.0.1:2469/app/_js/adobe.js
Again I am running Windows XP SP3 with all the patches applied, JRE 7u10 (set as the default for both IE and Firefox), and scripting is enabled in Internet Explorer. I get the exact same error when trying to install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player as well, however, Adobe Shockwave installed just fine.
I am new to this forum, so forgive me if this problem has been posted before. I did not find anything similar in a search. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Adobe Reader X Printing Problem

I upgraded to 'X', am running Windows XP and have an HP LaserJet 4100N printer. I mostly print out sets of loan documents, average 100 pages per set, mixed legal and letter size pages. When I upgraded to Adobe Reader X, legal size pages were randomly not printing the bottom 1/3 or so of each page. Since I travel to have these docs signed, it created quite a problem for me when it first happened. I could print smaller batches (1-5 pages, legal size only) and it worked, but printing the whole set, mixed paper sizes, I continued to have this problem.
Luckily I had kept an installation for Adobe Reader 9, so I uninstalled 'X' and reinstalled '9'. voila - the problem disappeared.
But I am hoping someone from Adobe will read this and work on this problem.

I can confirm this problem.  Rolling back to version 9.4 fixes it.
One of my clients is a travel notary and ran into this issue today.  All print settings were set up per Adobe's instructions at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/332/332720.html#main_Mixed_sizes when the problem occurred.  We had recently upgraded to Reader X, and had never had the probem before.  I eventually traced it to a problem in the new version.  Uninstalling and installing version 9.4 fixed the issue.  I cannot include the actual document due to privacy concerns, but I will include a screen shot that has been sanitized.

  • HP pavilion g6 adobe reader 8 installer problem

I got a problem: (just got vista)
When I run the Adobe Reader 8 installer, I get this: Screenshot
I am really glad if you guys can help me to figure this out.Coz i love my HP laptop...thanks

First, I would use the latest version of Reader XI. But you need to empty your temp folder. You can have a temp folder off the C: drive and you can have a temp folder in your Personal Settings Folder.

  • Adobe Reader X creates problems w/coldfusion pdf forms

Ever since I upgraded to Adobe Reader X, I can not open any of my odf forms on my webapp.  these forms were designed with Acrobat Pro 8.0 and are prepopulated by coldfusion server.  When I browse to one since upgrade, I get the following message:
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade
to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
Obviously, I have the latest version and Acrobat 8 and Acrobat 9 readers both worked.  Is there an easy work around or a way to get rid of Acrobat X and go back?

Could you please try turning off reader X protected mode and check if you continue to see the problem?
You could turn off protected mode using following steps:
    1. Launch Reader X and select Edit->Preferences...
    2. Select General from left navigation
    3. Under application startup uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at Startup"
Note: You should switch "ON" protected mode after verifying the problem. Purpose of Reader X Protected Mode is to keep your system safe from PDF based exploits and keeping protected mode OFF will leave your system vulnerable.

  • Adobe Reader is causing problems in Windows 7

    Good morning all,
I have been doing some digging on this one and have had no joy so far. We are deploying Windows 7 in our office and I have one user, and only one who is having problems.
They had Adobe Reader X installed and they began to have problems with it after they were upgraded to WIN 7. When they went to print a PDF it started to lock their PC for 3-5 minutes after which they were able to continue with their work.
This behavior is internmittent in that it does not happen with every PDF and typically only happens once a day. Some times  it is the first PDF of the day, sometimes in the middle of the day, but once it happens it does not happen again in the same day. Sometimes the user does not experience the problem for several days. We have been unsuccessful in determining any pattern or any particular in which this users machine is environmentally different from any other users machine.
No other users are experiencing this problem.
The user has a laptop and shuts it down to take home each night and starts the box fresh in the office each day.
Lately this behavior has extended to when the user just opens a PDF. Their laptop will freeze for 3-5 minutes and then they can continue with their work.
Based upon a very few articles we have found on the subject, we have tried a couple of things without success:
We have tried clearing the Adobe Reader cache
We have uninstalled Reader X and replaced it with Reader 9x
We are hoping that someone out there who has seen something like this before and can suggest some environmental or proceedural thing that we have missed. This one is driving us crazy.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Steve

    Ooops! Sorry about thts...moving now.

  • Installer for Adobe Reader 11 runs but nothing installs

Windows XP SP3 and IE8, Installer completes after downloading it, everything looks ok but nothing occurs after intsaller finishes, I see no Adobe Reader Intsalled on the progam list, nor are any existing PDF files recognized (asks for program with which to open them.)

Where did you download the app from?
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/
First you download an app to download the installer of Reader, which then must be run to download the Reader Installer, which you need to run to install Reader. Hey, you cannot make this stuff up.
    If you download from:
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
You can the Reader installer, which you can run to install Adobe Reader.

  • Adobe Reader XI runs as process, but will not launch

I have noticed that this question has been asked a fair amount already, but they've lead to dead ends or solutions that fail to work. Adobe Reader XI will not run. The original version present of Adobe Reader IX. That present version also failed to run, so despite the uninstall, upgrades, deletion of program files, and purge of adober reader-related registry values, the issue still persists. I am not aware as to when this issue originally manifested, only that under no circumstances, will the program launch. I have tried opening it every way possible.
    Computer Specs:
    Windows XP SP3
    2 GB RAM
    2.5 ghz processor
    Solutions I've Tried:
-run acrord32.exe as a local admin
    -protected mode registry workaround
    -uninstall a specific kb
    -uninstall/reinstall/repair program itself
-Accepting the eula in "program files"
    Additional Info:
-No related errors present in the Event Viewer
-No errors prompted when attempting to use program
-All accounts are local-admins and fails to launch on all of them
I apperciate any contribution, thank you.

I have no clue, but then you are in the Acrobat forum and not the Reader forum. The Reader forum link is listed at the top of this forum.

  • Adobe reader 11 installation problem

Cannot instal Adobe reader 11. Downloader starts, installation files are downloaded, message appears "installation successful", looking at the system control, installed software, surprise surprise no Adobe 11 installed!!! Tried it with Firefox, IE, to no avail. sometimes a window opens saying "the installation has not been successful". None of the advices work. De-installed Adobe 7 beforehand of course.
I'm using XP SP3, Java script enabled.
Any idea would be very appreciated.
    Rgds, fhk99

If "none of the advices work" I may be wasting my time and yours, but you can try using this tool to remove all traces of Reader:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you may download the offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Adobe Reader, Telnet Hyperlink Problem

Hi, I met a telnet Hyperlink Problem in Adobe Reader.
When click the Hyperlink (like telnet://a.b.c.d), Adobe reader gives me a Alert:
Acrobat does not allow connection to: telnet://a.b.c.d
And I also need to open this telnet hyperlink in web browser with Adobe reader plugin.
Would you please give me some help?

Acrobat and Adobe Reader recently closed off access to custom protocols. Telnet is a standard protocol, but I can't see Adobe leaving it working.

  • Adobe Reader Licence Agreement Problems

Having some problems accepting the agreement so I can view .PDF Files - which I unfortunately can't do at the moment. Everytime I load a document, or the program on it's own, I get this 'can't connect to internet explorer' page instead. So I have to click the x, and I ihave to quit Adobe Reader.
    Please help?

The key thing to check first is whether you can visit the web using
Internet Explorer, since Adobe Reader is using it to display the
    agreement.
If you can, try clicking more details and see if it will tell you the
URL it was visiting; try copying and pasting that into an IE window.
    Does it work?

  • Adobe Reader X highlighting problem

When I highlight text in Adobe Reader X, everything works fine until i close out the document and reopen it.  Then all of the text i highlighted becomes pure yellow and completely blocks the words.  I have tried changing the opaqueness or whatever and it works until i get back into the document, and it is solid yellow again..?
