Adobe Reader XI Self Uninstall

I have a network computer with GPO pushed Adobe Reader. The computer is Windows 7 x64. GPO for some reason does not push to this machine so I went and downloaded and installed Reader manually. I have dealt with Reader for 8 years with no issues, I started using GPO push 4 years ago with no issues. This computer is a month old and keeps uninstalling Reader with no prompt. Likely this happens at night while the machine is logged off but powered on. I have 4 other machines this has happened on, each of differing ages.
Again, I did nothing to initiate an uninstall nor does the GPO reinstall anything.

Enable full verbose MSI logging and check MSI log file next time it happens - in the very beginnig of the log there might be information which process has launched uninstallation.
You will need to search for the log in 2 possible locations-
User Temp folder
or
C:\Windows\Temp folder in case the process is launch in the SYSTEM account

  • Adobe reader won't 'uninstall'

I can't print pdfs or download pdfs on the web since downloading adobe reader 9.  The previous version (reader 8) failed to uninstall and I am unable to use 'remove programme' to remove either version of reader.   The error message reads,  patch cannot be found.
Can anyone offer a solution?  I believe I need to uninstall all the adobe files and reinstall afresh but can't do it with add/remove programmes.

    Thank you Claudio,
Your suggestion worked perfectly. I am very grateful.

You may want to try running this fix from Microsoft and uninstall all traces of any versions of Reader: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall If you want to reinstall Reader, download its full installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.Replies to this message go to everyone subscribed to this thread, not directly to the person who posted the message. • Cannot open .pdfs via Outlook or Adobe Reader, can't open Adobe Reader, can't uninstall it!

We have a new office desktop that will not open .pdfs or open Adobe Reader.  The version on the computer is 9.5.2.  When I try to install updates or install Adobe XI, the installation process stops before completion because it says Adobe 9.5 is currently being open.  But we can't open Adobe 9.5, and task manager does not even show the program as being open.
I have tried uninstalling the program, but have been unable for the same reason.

You can try using this tool to remove all traces of previous version(s) of Reader:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you may download the offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

With the Cleaner tool the program is not removed and so reinstalling is not possible while there is a version running.
You may need to run the cleaner tool multiple times.
What do you mean "is not removed"; do you get any error messages?

  • Adobe reader sees an uninstalled printer, how to change?

Adobe reader 10.0 sees the wrong printer driver on my pc, it recognizes my brother MFC-7362n as an brother MFC-7340. When I try to print it doesnt show up in my queue so nothing happens after printing.
I reinstalled my printer and adobe reader both a couple of times already. I used the Brother cleaning tool to make sure everything was removed from older printers. But still the list of printers doesnt show the right printer. So, it shows the MFC-7340 and it should show the MFC-7362n, my os is windows Vista 32bit. What can I do about it?
    Thanks,

    Hi dieke%20billie,
I would suggest you to please uninstall Adobe Reader from your machine and then again install the latest patch of Reader XI i.e. 11.0.10
Refer the below mentioned link for downloading Reader along with choosing Windows Vista as your OS:
    https://get.adobe.com/reader/
    Hope it helps.

Uh, wait. Helps if I shut down safari and start it up again. Works just fine. Thanks a million!

I've a new Lenovo computer with windows 8.1.
I have uninstalled the Nitro 8 software.
When I try to install Adobe it always encounters a problem and does not install.
Could anyone help me with this please?

    Hello Pat,
    Thank you for your response.
I have just got this working this morning, the message from the adobe install was that it had encountered a problem, it gave no further details.
I tried disabling the firewall this morning and adobe has installed without any difficulty
Thank you again for the response.

  • Should Adobe Reader 9 be uninstalled if I want to use Acrobat 8.0?

I have Acrobat 8.0 on this WIN XP SP3 box and *someone* also installed Reader 9 (probably got an update notice) as well.  I want to use Acrobat for some housekeeping but cannot access the appropriate menus (security stuff).
I was told (by another forum) to re-install Acrobat 8 as a "repair", but don't seem to have tha option as "autoplay" is disabled (we use a LOT of USB devices) at present.
I thought to simply re-install Acrobat but that's not working.  So the same genii suggested I discard Reader 9 and see if that will do the trick.
    Thoughts from anyone?

Having both applications installed isn't recommended or supported since they don't play well together. Best to uninstall both then reinstall the one you want to use. You can try uninstalling one then repairing the other first.

  • Adobe Reader X self terminates in XP SP3

I have installed Reader X on a Windows XP SP3 32-bit system but whenever I try to run it the program terminates itself straight away right after the splash screen. I do not have the same problem when using it on a Windows 7 64-bit system though.
Can anyone confirm a similar situation in XP?

    Hi,
This is the exact issue I am having. It would open then self terminate within seconds. I was suggested to un-install the program. Now I cant get any visual, and there is an error message. AAARRRGH! So frustrated.

  • Adobe Reader 7.0 uninstall problem

Web site provided by Claudio Gonzales didn't work.  Any other suggestions?

I asume this is the same question you posted here:

Opening a new thread to continue an ongoing discussion is not really advisable or convenient.

"Didn't work" is not very elightening. You mean, you double clicked on the link I gave and nothing happened, or you received an error message? Or you were taken to the relevat Microsoft Support page but nothing happened when you tried to run the fix? Or something else?
It is difficult to help you if you don't provide enough information.

  • Adobe Reader won't open  Tried installing updated Adobe Reader and error came up in the process and told me to contact software manufacturer.  Could I uninstall current Adobe Reader and then try installing the current AR?  Any ideas?

My Adobe Reader wouldn't download tickets.  Tried opening Adobe Reader application but it would not open.  I saw my Adobe Reader needed to be updated, so I attempted to install new Adobe Reader.  When it came to finalizing, it said there is an error and can't do.  Any ideas?  I have no functioning Adobe reader.  Should I uninstall old Adobe Reader and then try installing the updated AR?

(Had to step away & do things) I can't even open up the Adobe Reader application to uninstall; get message it won't open. And now have more things needing to be downloaded to print.  Any ideas on how to open the app, so I can uninstall.  I have a MAC OS X 10.9.4  When the installation initially failed I received this message from Adobe, " Adobe Reader Installation Error  Package name Adobe Reader xi (11.0.07)  Installer: installing abase path/installer: The install failed  (The install encountered an error that caused the installation to fail.  Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.)  It did not specify what the error was

  • Unable to uninstall adobe reader 8.16 on windows xp

I wanted to uninstal adobe reader 8 after finding I could use adobe reader 9, I uninstalled adobe reader and ended up having to restore my system after a server problem with the new software putting adobe 8 back. I tried to uninstall it again after switching off the machine for a while for the serer to recover, I still cant uninstall 8 even after installing adobe reader 9.

I tried on the day to navigate the adobe site on dial up, adobe should cater to people on a budget if they are going to service us with a free reader. Personally I would prefer another program to decode a pdf document that does just that - without all the other stuff I will never use. Today I found I may be able to uninstall adobe 8 by running kb404307, I couldn't even find a download page for the fix. Once again I got frustrated with my pc and adobe.
