Adobe's not flashing

hiya techies,
Various sites visited are suggesting I need to download the latest version of Adobe Flash Player. Checking in preferences I seem to have the latest version (12) installed. I have Downloaded Uninstall from the Adobe website and re-installed AFP12. I've fixed permissions in Disk Utility but still no joy. Am I missing something in Safari settings or has there been another spat between Apple & Adobe?
I do click 'ask before installing' on Adobe install rather than allowing auto install .... they wouldn't be that snotty would they?

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 6. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
You might have to log out or reboot before a Flash update takes effect.
Step 2
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
Step 3
If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then from the menu bar select
 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
If the warning persists, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Step 4
Open this folder as in Step 3:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
Step 5
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
Step 6
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
Then click the button marked
Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
Step 7
Select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
Step 8
In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
Close the window. Then select
 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

I have a new laptop with Windows 8.1 64 bit. I tried to view a video and it said I did not have flash player. I went to download adobe flash player and your website said I had it intergrated into 8.1 and that it was either disabled, not the right version or that active X filters needed to be clear. I followed all instructions. Flash was installed with the 8.1 64 bit version. Flash was enabled for all websites and I cleared the active X filter and I still get told that I don't have install flash because it is intergrated and but it does not work. Please help I am in a cycle where Adobe is not helping just sending me in a circle. Thank you

Your problems aren't with Adobe or Flash Player. They're with Internet explorer 11 and Microsoft.
IE11 (Windows 7, 8 & 8.1) has been an abomination since its release October 18, 2013. Yahoo, Facebook, BBC, ESPN and dozens of other sites and domains have had trouble recognizing the Browser. If the site doesn't recognize the browser, it won't recognize any plugins in the browser, including Flash Player. Microsoft was made aware of the problems by millions of users within hours of the release, and so far they've shown no sign that they intend to fix it anytime soon. Their recommendation is to enable Compatibility View for affected pages. Two problems with that are that it's had only limited success, and you must enable it manually for each affected page. Basically, they're telling you to "pretend" you're not using IE11.
I'm not big on "pretending", and I recommend actually using something different. Something that works where IE11 won't.
Firefox (from Mozilla)
Chrome (from Google)
Safari (from Apple)
Opera (from Opera)
ANY of those will work where IE isn't recognized, and they use the Flash Player Plug-in (for other browsers), except for Chrome, which has its own plugin embedded in by Google.

You get the message because that is exactly the situation. Apple has not allowed any Flash on iOS devices.
What site are you trying to see? Many sites now provide Flash alternatives. For example, if you want to listen to Pandora, instead of using the Flash on the Pandora website, instead you download the Pandora app for the iPad.
In the future, even if Apple wants to add Flash to the iPad, it won't be able to because Adobe will no longer be making it at all, for any mobile device:

If you often go to sites that use a lot of Flash and they don't have an alternative, you should write to them and tell them to stop using Flash.

Adobe is not maintaining Flash Player auto-update

Flash Player auto-update is broken. The URL that is checked by the auto-update agent has not been maintained properly by Adobe:

This information is obviously out-of-date, as the current full-release version is Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.110.

As a result, client machines relying on the auto-update process are not being patched. The client machines themselves appear to be checking properly - they have internet access and fpsaud appears to be working properly.
There's really no point to having the auto-update facility if you're not going to maintain it. You might as well just pull it out of the product.

This is as designed. The silent auto update mechanism is not updated until 30 days after a major release. However, the older style UI notifications are sent out within 7 days (and a system restart). Hopefully the FAQ below explains how this works.

You may be mixing up two entirely different Adobe products.
1. Adobe Flash Player. Needed to view web pages designed with Flash. Not needed to view PDF files. Not available for Android (not just Sony).
2. Adobe Reader. Reads PDF files. However, the Android can also read most PDF files without needing Adobe Reader.

Is Flash Builder dead? I just found out that adobe has dropped Flash on mobile devices

I did alot of research on software to develop apps for the mobile market. I liked Flash Builder since it will create apps for all 3 types of mobile devices at once. Downloaded the 30 day trial and have started on the 5 day training course.
Today I saw an article from sitepoint that abobe has dropped development and support for Flash on mobile devices.
The end result of Flash Builder gives you a .swf file in an html wrapper thus we are developing flash when adobe has dropped Flash for mobile. Am I wasting my time? Should I go to another software package?

Everything else is active... they are still continuing to work on exporting to Android,iOS, and rim playbook via AIRapps in both flash builder and flash pro.

PPCS4.1/4.2 / Adobe Clip Notes - QuickTime All Screwed Up

Ok, so I am trying to create an Adobe Clip Notes for a client to review. I've done this with CS3 in the past just fine.
My project is a P2 DVCPROHD 720p project, and when I export, I choose Adobe Clip Notes, and the "NTSC Widescreen Source to 1024kbps" preset. All I changed was setting the video option to "Stream", set the URL, and entered my e-mail address.
The preset shows that the video should be 854x480 pixels, but the rendered file is an 1139x480 pixel video. The image looks right but there are just giant black bars on the left and right of my video, not to mention the encoding looks like crap due to the wasted encoding space.
Mathmatically, this seems like a pixel aspect issue, where it is multiplying 854pixels by a 1.333 aspect... but there are no options for this in the Export settings.
I've tried changing the resolution and it seems that the numbers always keep the aspect even if the "link" button is off.
Help!
Any why the heck can't I use my Flash Media Server with Adobe Clip Notes? Doesn't it make more sense for Adobe to implement it's own product first?

Nope, just an Adobe made P2 DVCPRO HD 720p preset. The pixel aspect is 1.333.
I did get a 4x3 aspect once, and I had to leave the video set to embedded for that to work. Then I duplicated the export in AME, and changed only the video to stream and set a URL, and it was back to the crazy black bars on the sides. Trouble with the embedded is that I can't view the properties of the video.
I even created a NEW Adobe sequence and put only a graphic in it and it did the same thing. I then created a custom sequence that used square pixels and it did the same thing.
I gave up. I'm just going to have to forego Clip Notes and submit this to my Flash Media Server. I've spent too much time trying to figure this out when it should work out of the box. There seems to me more broke by moving the exporting to the new Adobe Media Encoder than keeping it in Premiere as with CS3.
Maybe I'll fiddle with it later, but for now I am on a deadline.

Adobe clip notes quicktime playback Win XP 64

Havng an issue and wondering if anyone has experinced similar problem. When I open adobe clip notes .pdf file in adobe reader (that I exported in PrPro CS4) on windows xp pro 64 bit- the video comes up but the little quicktime play bar with play, pause and stop does not show up- just black where the bar should be. Now I can click on the black and if I click in the correct areas (blindly) I can still pause and play and fast forward- but this is not a good option. When I play the same pdf in Windows XP pro 32 bit the quicktime bar works just fine. I have quicktime 7.6.4 installed on my XP pro 64 bit machine.
I can export to Windows media and that works with both XP 32 bit and 64 bit- but windows media player won't allow me to scrub the video forward and back like quicktime does
Any suggestions

Impatient Linux users will have to wait till the end of the
year for even a
preview release of Adobe's Flash Player 9.
The company's lead Flash for Linux engineer, Mike Melanson ,
reported this
week in his blog that Adobe won't release any alpha versions
of its Flash
port, holding out instead for a full-featured beta scheduled
for release
sometime late this year.
Adobe recently released a major Flash overhaul, version 9,
for Windows and
Macintosh clients. For Linux users, the release lengthened
the Flash gap
between them and other users: Adobe skipped Flash Player 8
for Linux and
hasn't released a Linux update since mid-2004. Because Flash
is not fully
backward-compatible, Web content developed for the newer
Flash players often
won't run in version 7, the most current Linux version.
Adobe's market
research shows that 86 percent of U.S. computer users are
able to view Flash
8 content.
"I have to question a cross-platform strategy that has a bias
against one
platform," RedMonk analyst Stephen O'Grady, a Linux user,
gripped in his
blog. The lack of a modern Flash player leaves him unable to
view content on
a number of Web sites, including major destinations like
ESPN.com.
An Adobe spokesman said the company expects a full release of
Flash Player 9
for Linux in early 2007. Because of the "short" cycle between
Flash Player 8
and 9 -- ten months -- Adobe opted to skip version 8 for
Linux and move
directly to version 9, he said.
Melanson's blog tracks the day-to-day progress and decisions
Adobe is making
on Flash for Linux. A full-time Linux user since 1999,
Melanson shares the
frustration of his comrades about Adobe's Linux lag.
"In September, 2005, I happened [across a blog that]
mentioned in passing
that Macromedia was looking for someone to port Flash Player
to Linux. I
applied for the job and now here I am," he posted.
"When I started at Adobe, I found out that there is a shadow
cabal of
engineers that very much want to see the current Flash Player
run on Linux,
and would even try their hand with the current codebase from
time to time.
But there are only so many hacking hours in the day."

That's the point .. 'these days'.
Much of the problem is older code, must be over a decade old
now) which was
not well written. That is not an uncommon occurence in
products that have
such a long existence as flash player. Supported platforms,
development
techniques, developer guidelines, management etc all change
over the years
and things that seemed 'a good idea at the time' end up
becoming a problem.
In hindsight there would be many things that should have been
done
differently in the past .. but without a working time-machine
that cannot be
fixed, without an enormous investment in development to
rewrite the code
base in a manner that can be more easily ported .. which is
what is
happening.
Also the low level optimisations required for such
cpu-intense real-time
graphic processing are difficult to port, as they rely on
optimised assembly
code for different cpus and chipsets
And further there is the issue of different operating systems
and libraries
to link against on different platforms.

of re-building
or doing daily builds is naive. There is no indication that
Adboe does not
make use of these practices. But continuous integration and
nightly builds
are only tools to maintain a port once it is done .. it
doesn't help you DO

I'm sure Adobe DO want simulataneous release .. if it were
possible. But
that is not possible if the software is not ported to all the
platforms.
With it ported to the platforms the vast majority of people
use (windows and
mac) it makes sense to release the newer versions that are
required in order
to release other major revenue-earning products like Flex.
That is a valid
and sound marketting and financial decision.

It may be worth your while reading the blogs by the adobe
developers where
they discuss the issues and get feedback from people such as
yourself.

Exactly .. so MM/Adobe got the player out as quickly as
possible for the
majority of their customers. Making EVERYONE have to wait
while the player
was ported to all the other minority platforms would NOT have
been good for

As they say .. you can't please all the people all the time.

anyway) .. its worldwide and broken down into regions.

people, and those with the money to spend, are using Windows
and Mac.

What's occuring when you try to do the install? Are you receiving any error messages?

Installing Adobe Reader or Flash

It seems that no matter what website you go to, you need to have installed either Adobe Reader or Flash. I tried to do both and got the same error for both. Is it not possible to install those programs on the Pearl?

- I can read an Acrobat document that I have previously stored on the multimedia card,
or:
-you mean that I can read Acrobat attachment of email messages?
The difference is thin but real.

Adobe Air and Flash: Safe or Unsafe?

Adobe Air and Flash-- I use PoserPro2014, and it makes use of Adobe Air to run the Library. I'm getting requests to update the Air component. The tutorials use Flash. I get messages that the Flash "is out of date" and can't watch the tutorials. I
I'm running 10.9.4. My concern is about how Air and Flash may cause problems for my computer. Are the latest versions of Air and Flash safe to upgrade to?

Flash and Java are the two top vectors for malware on any computer. It is imperative that you keep Flash updated to the latest version at all times. As for your concern about problems by updating Air or Flash the prudent thing to do is to create a bootable clone of your working system using a well known cloning app such as Super Duper. Create the bootable clone on a freshly formatted, external hard drive, then boot from that clone, update Flash and Air on that clone to the latest version, then test to see if you have problems with your PoserPro software. If all is well then restart from your normal boot drive and update.
I note that PoserPro is a product of Smith Micro Software, Inc. This company has a very bad reputation regarding OS X compatibility, timely updates, and responses to customer service issues.

Adobe reader not operating correctly

Since adobe reader updated to X, it has not worked correctly. It will run for about 10secs then will give "Not Responding" message and screen will turn translucent white (or gray). My operating system is vista, the reader version is 10.1.4. I've turned off auto updates to keep it from going to version 10.1.7. That version is totally non-operating on my system. Reading in web based documents is non-existent so I've turned that off too. Try going into the 3D tab to turn that off (read that might help) - forget it, not happening. At my wits end, trying to get this to work for days now...
