After downloading a pdf from a website, how can I view the file in Safari 6.0.4 (just as I can in Safari 5.0.6)? I bet that it's simple, but I've missed something, somewhere, and a solution will be greatly appreciated.

Thank's for your efforts, and I just wish that this was the solution. Unfortunately, it isn't because, after double-clicking on the pdf in the website, it simply "opens" in another Safari window as a black screen - the pdf is there, somewhere, but not visible (either as an icon, or as a document).
When I right-click in the black Safari window, where the file is supposed to be, the only option available to display the file is to "Open file in Internet Explorer" (which is not what I want to do). Other options include saving or printing the pdf, which I don't want until I've confirmed that it's the form that I want. The same options are offered if I right-click on the file icon in the website.
Any other suggestions, please?

Hi,
Got 2 problems really.
1. On my iMac, when I try to download a pdf from a website, I sometimes get a black window (background) with an Acrobat logo;
2. When I tried to download Acrobat Reader 9 to fix this problem, the Apple installer starts toinstall and then says,"Adobe Reader 9 cannor be installed on this computer."
Any ideas please?

I downloaded the new PPC version and when I tried to open pdfs off of the internet again, got the same black window problem.
I rebooted my machine and left it overnight as I had to go out - this morning, it opened website pdfs with no problem.

How can I view the files on my Time Capsule without using Time Machine?

In the past Time Machine was backing up to a regular external disc and I could view the files easily. I'm new to the Time Capsule and not sure this is possible as I can't "find" the Time Capsule disc.

The Time Capsule's drive appears as a network drive, so it doesn't show up as an external drive.
To access to it, first make sure you are connected to the Time Capsule. Then, open a Finder window and you will see the Time Capsule's drive in the sidebar, under "Shared". Select it and you will be able to access to the files stored in the Time Capsule

Three questions: (1) hard to get firefox to close; (2) can't download linked PDFs from journal websites, as I can with safari; (3) how do I migrate my complete firefox setup from old mac computer to new mac.

I am running firefox on a 4-year-old macbook. When I want to close the firefox application, for example when I am shutting down the computer, it hangs, will not quit. Sometimes I get a prompt about continuing a script and after I click on that, then it closes. Often, however, I have to do a force quit ("firefox not responding").
I am going to be setting up soon on a new macbook.
My firefox has been elaborated with several add-ons, including read it later and a couple of feed add-ons. I have an elaborate bookmark and tab group setup. Will it be possible to migrate all of that to the new computer.
Will my having a fresh new computer resolve the problem with getting the application to close? Or should I be concerned about importing the problem along with the application?
The other question concerns downloading of PDF files that are linked at medical journal websites, where I have permission for download of articles. I can do this in safari. But the process is not working in firefox. The blank window comes up like I am going to get a download prompt, but then that does not happen.

I did that :
Open Terminal
1 - wget http://rpms.famillecollet.com/remi-release-8.rpm
2 - sudo rpm -Uvh remi-release-8.rpm
3 - sudo mousepad /etc/yum.repos.d/remi.repo
Make sur that in remi section enabled value = 1 and in test section enabled value= 0
4 - sudo rpm -e --nodeps firefox
5 - sudo yum install firefox

I am unable to download certain PDFs from a website

My job requires me to log on to a secure website and click on links to download pdf files. When I click on the links, the firefox opens a new tab, but that tab is blank. When I "right click" on the link and select "save link as" from the menu, the file is recognized as a php file and not pdf and I am unable to download it in a readable form. I have tried opening these files in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari and none of them work. However, the files download for other people with the same version of Mac as me without a problem.
I have tried changing the preference for PDF to Adobe Reader in the preference>application window as suggested by other online forums and this does not help.
I am able to download these same files from an email attachment which has been the temporary solution. Other pdf links from other websites don't download, but pop-up in a tab of the browser and I am able to view them. The IT guy said that he made the file so that it could only be downloaded for security reasons. I don't know if this is a reason why I am having problems with this particular kind of pdf, but not others. However, I'm not sure why I am having the problem, but not other people.
I have a MacBook Pro version 10.6.8 and I have firefox 21.0. My Adobe Reader is 11.0.03.

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:

Installing Acrobat 9 Pro has caused a failure to download any pdf from any website.

When I click on a pdf file, including any of the help files on the Adobe site, I get a view of the file for a fraction of a second and then it is replaced by a grey screen saying ' Acrobat Plugin Crashed' and offering me the option of sending a report. I have sent many reports, to no avail. For example, I looked up some train times, and got only the briefest tantalising glimpse of the pdf before it was replaced by the grey screen. The system was fine previously, when I had only Acrobat Reader. How can I put this right?

I have tried using Internet Explorer instead of Firefox, and I have the same problem, which is still being flagged up as a problem with Acrobat Reader. My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium version 6.1.
Pdf files that are sitting on my desktop load successfully in Acrobat Reader, or with the Acrobat Pro that I loaded recently, but their ikons do not appear with the Acrobat red and white symbol. Nope. The only things visible from iCloud are your mail (if you have an @me.com account), your contacts, your calendar information and any documents you put in iWork (Documents in the Cloud). The iCloud backup is not for you, but for the device. The same is true of the iTunes backup on your computer; you can find it, but you can't view it.

How do I view the files on my flash drive?

I made the switch from PC to Mac and I bought (Dec 2011) a new Macbook Pro; I put all of my files (from PC) on a flash drive and now I want to open/save them on my macbook. Please explain how I do this. (First time Mac user).

Lacie hard drive, how do I view the files in Finder so I can delete some backups made by TimeMachine?

I have a 500GB La Cie external hard drive which Time Machine says is now too full to make way for the next backup.
I thought it would automatically delete the earliest backup to make way for the new but apparently not.
Can I look at the files in Finder and delete previous backups manually as I can't see how else to do it except buy another hard drive?

If all else fails you might consider erasing your external drive and reinstalling Time machine. That though eliminates all history that you have on Time Machine.

You can only use the kit to copy photos and videos to the iPad's Photos app, it won't work with other file types. If they are photos and/or videos then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of it with the photos underneath it, and the photo/video filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them

Assuming you set up your capture preset and Sequence correctly, it will be 16:9 when you are back in the editing interface.

Buy another backup drive. Keep this as is. depends on what and how you do backups. TimeMachine? there are program utilities to help manage but it is 'suppose' to manage itself (have 3.5x capacity of data you backup helps). You didn't say what type of backup method was used.

We're having a problema when we're trying to download to PDF from a WAD Template.
We use the same functionality to download to Excel butt here we have no problem.
When we press the button to Download from PDF we get the following message:

How can I install the latest Camera Raw? I've just bought a Nikon D610 and am shooting in RAW but my CS5.1 won't open the files. I'm running CR version 6.7.0.339 but I can't install more up to date one as only running Windows Vista. Please help!

I also tried to install the latest DNG converter and that looks to have worked but not quite sure what's happened as I still can't open the files. Thanks in advance for any help.

You can purchase an upgrade, but the only options available as a qualifying previous product are CS5 and CS5 Extended and Acrobat X Suite. It isn't entirely clear if CS5 also includes CS5.1 or not, so I'd suggest using the Chat Now button over at the side to clarify.

My problem: How do I view "TOD. file format" on my MacPro Book?
I am a marine scientist, working on very small marine animals, my research methods is to record these animals swimming and then track their movement with image tracking software.
Equipment:
+ 3 x JVC GZ-HD7 Cameras which records in true 1920x1080i video, storing files in .TOD file format.
+ MacBook Pro + huge external hard-drive to handle these files.
+ Final Cut Express
The Hard-drive of the cameras is full and I need to download the footage, so I can record more experiments.
I’ve tried to backing up footage on the JVC DVD Burner, CU-VC40.
But when I try to view this on the Mac, there is the same problem with the .TOD file format.
I’ve tried installing the QuickTime component for Everio = no difference.
Any help would be great!!!!

After researching several communities I use MPEG SC 1.9 to convert the TOD files. There was a little disturbance, either to convert to HDV or AIC. Hopefully my little test will display the difference:
TOD file 39.7 MB in 1920x1080
DV file 46.3 MB in roughly 1.5 min
adjustments within MSC...Format: DV Stream(PAL, Interlaced,16:9, Audio rate 48000khz), scale Interlaced, color re-interlace, upper pic first
-> FCP no render for Video necessary
-> hopefully I got all menue options halfway right. Apparently I'm not US and use a german version
MOV file 143.6 MB with Apple Intermediate Codec in exactly 1 min
adjustments within MSC...Format: Quicktime Export, Compression AIC, Audio uncompressed, 1920x1080, scale Interlaced, color re-interlace, upper pic first
-> FCP rencer for Video necessary
-> hopefully that's the codec everybody means, when talking AIC !?
General FCP question here:
I've set it to HDV 1080i 50 and then imported the files to the project. Apparently the movie in the canvas (100% size) should be huge, a lot of scrolling bars. But it isn't. It's a little bit bigger than the canvas or viewer window and the picture isn't that clear.
Same thing with the TOD file in Mpeg SC. It's not crystal clear, far away from expectations. Cars in city limits seem to have stripes while in motion. The frame size doesn't fit. It should be bigger than my smaller display can display.

Why is the 1920x1080 not the size it should be ? Honestly, if that s the quality from a daylight shot I will sell that camcorder right away and buy a PAL system mini DV for half the price. It's bad !
I've chosen Apple FCP unkompr. 8-Bit 4:2:2 in MSC.
At least I got a 1920x1080 picture/movie. But what does 8Bit 4:2:2 mean ?
Is that what all of you do ? Guess not.
22 sec of movie 78.7 MB big turn out to 2.55 GB !!!
Still the quality isn't that great. Would someone please help me with the parameters in MSC to convert ? That would be awesome.
Lowlight quality of the camcorder is really bad. One bulp and it's spooky dark. But that's not that bad, if at least perfect lid scenes would be great.

After downloading a pdf from a website, how can I view the file in Safari 6.0.4 (just as I can in Safari 5.0.6)? I bet that it's simple, but I've missed something, somewhere, and a solution will be greatly appreciated.
