After Effects CC - Won't open due to OpenGL crash.

I can't for the life of me get After Effects to work. It crashes when I try to start it. Premiere Pro works, |'ve tried restarting and reinstalling to no avail. I've also tried running CS6 but that also crashes. There's no way to disable OpenGL in CS6-CC.
I'm desperate for some suggestions on how to make this work.

Have you installed any CUDA drivers? If so, that may have caused the problem.
If not, have you updated your Radeon's drivers?

  • After Effects CS3 won't open mp4 H264 videos

    Hi people.
I've just bought a Samsung HMX10 that captures video footage directly for mp4 files with H264 codec. The problem is After Effects won't import any of the files recorded by this camera and gets the 'unsupported filetype or extension ( 0 :: 1 )' message. Premiere accepts the same files just fine. Is there a way to make After Effects use the same codecs as Premiere and/or some software to convert this files to some AE friendly format without losing much quality?
    Thanks

As Sébastien said, convert or transcode it. Other alternatives to putting it into a QT container include for instance using tools like SUPER© to adjust the stream structure. Making AE use the same routines like premiere is not possible, but it wouldn't do much good, anyway, I would say. While Premiere can simply ignore things like open GOPs or other "bad stuff", AE can't, as it always needs to reconstruct a full frame for processing. Also be aware, that there is a million minor varaitions on the theme, as every camera manufacturer seems to have his on philosophy on teh matter, so some incompatibilities are sometimes inevitable. In your case however, these issues may already be covered in CS4, so if you have the time, consider giving it a spin and possibly upgrade to it. in the long run, it may be more efficient than always haveing to take a detour and the better integration with Premiere via Dynamic Link may also have additional benefits for you...

  • Premiere (and After Effects) CS6 won't open anymore!

         Hi everyone,
Recently, I've been working on a project which required a dynamic link between After Effects and Premiere CS6 on my MacBook Pro, which runs OSX Mountain Lion. Everything worked great until yesterday, when I got an error message that said something along the lines of "Adobe Premiere has encountered an error. We will try to save your project and restart Premiere again".
I re-opened Premiere, and although the same thing happened again a few times, I was finally able to get back to my project. Today, however, the same message appeared when I opened it again. I went through the same routine again, opening it and then exiting out, but this time, it didn't work.
Not only is Premiere not opening, it is no longer even showing the error message. It simply goes to the loading screen and the the infamous "Spinning Beach Ball of Death" appears. I've force quit multiple times and re-started my computer with every application closed. I've also relaunched Finder (I honestly don't think that would help, but I tried anyways) - still, the loading sign freezes and the SBBOD appears again.
Instead of sitting there trying to fix it and wasting my time, I tried opening After Effects to at least work on the linked compositions that were in my Premiere project. I then get this message before After Effects force quits automatically:
"Last log message was: <140735255806336> <GPUManager> <2> Sniffer Result Code: 3
Generating crash log, which may take a few minutes."
So, apparently this has something to do with my GPU or CPU? I'm not really that educated when it comes to GPUs, so I'm not sure what to do now. I have a CUDA Driver Version 5.5.47 on my computer (I'm not entirely sure how it got there in the first place...), and System Preferences has been notifying me that it needs to be updated. I heard somewhere, on a different forum, that this may have something to do with it, so I downloaded what I thought was a newer version of the driver, although this just turned out to be the same version (5.5.47) that I already have (which seems to be the newest one).
So, what do you think I should do? Is there something very specific that should be done? Does it have something to do with this CUDA thing? Is the best option to just uninstall and then reinstall?
If you have any ideas, let me know!
    Thank you!

Thank you so much, Mr. Curtis! I'm not sure exactly how that worked, but it allowed me to get back on both AE and Premiere Pro. 10 points to you!
Also, for the  other people that may have similar problems and are viewing this forum, definitely try this out. Listen to Jim's advice, don't use the most recent version (which is currectly 5.5.47) - instead try a slightly older one. The one I had installed was version 5.5.24.
Once again, thank you! You saved my project!

  • After Effects Cs6 Won't Open. Error Code: 16

I use After Effects Cs6 on a daily basis but now when i try opening the program, an error window pops up saying that i need to uninstall and reinstall the program but i don't want to lose all my plugins for the program. What do i do?

...i don't want to lose all my plugins for the program. What do i do?
First thing, make certain you actually have to reinstall.  For example, what happens if you just turn off the computer, go have a cup of coffee, then turn it back on, launch AE and open a project file?  Or if you mess with your multiprocessing settings, and double-check the drivers for your third-party card?
    No Joy?
Write down all the pulgins you installed.  Gather all the applicable installers.  Follow Mylenium's advice on the Cleaner Tool when uninstalling, then bite the bullet and reinstall the plugins.  It's a Right Royal Pain, but you'll have to do it.  Sorry, no shortcuts here.

  • After Effects CS6 won't open: "After Effects warning: An unknown Adobe Player Engine error has occurred. Scripting will be disabled."

I cleared my computer but I managed to get After Effects CS6 back by looking in Windows old on my hard drive, every time I try and open AAE I get this error message "After Effects warning: An unknown Adobe Player Engine error has occurred. Scripting will be disabled."
    What should I do?
    Thanks.

Does it launch after that error message?
What version of CS6 is it? 11.0.4? If not, try updating to it.
Why not simply reinstall from your original disk or download?

  • After Effects CS4 won't open?

I installed my After Effects and did everything properly and used it maybe once or twice until it started to not open at all.
Everytime I open it now the licence Agreement' comes up everytime and I have to press Accept, but when I do the After Effects loading screen comes up for maybe 2 seconds and then disappears with a sound and no message. Just doesn't wanna open.
Is there a reason for this?
Thanks for any help, its GREATLY appreciated!
    Mike

Hi there, I installed it as a full retail version.
It's worked fine upto maybe a week or two ago when all of a sudden it loads (the purple screen) and then nothing happens or comes up.
I have Windows XP Home Edition SP3 and its a 32-bit I believe.
    Here are my specs...
Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
System Manufacturer: HP Pavilion 061 (a830n)
    Bios: Version 08.00.10
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 (2 CPU's with HT) at 3.20GHZ
    Memory: 2040MB RAM
    Direct X: Version 9.0c
250 GB Serial ATA Hard Drive
Chip Type: Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family
Like I said, it has worked fine upto a week or two ago when it just doesn't wanna come up.
I am thinking its more of a computer problem or something affecting the program...but again, I wouldn't know what.
I have uninstalled and re-installed it a few times and it does the same thing. It'll come up maybe once or twice and after that, nothing.
Like any information you can give would be so helpful!
    Thanks a lot.

  • After Effects CS3 Won't Open

Hi,i need help for a little problem, i'll describe it step by step
    1.When I open AE CS3, nothing happens,
2.if i click another times, it open after effects but no start-loading happens, and i can't use the option in the tool bar,
3.when i exit it write me a error message (the picture is the link under)
    http://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aeerrorcy2.jpg

I recommend to follow Todd's advise. There's surely someone speaking French just a phone call away. Unfortunately 0 :: 42 is the most generic error one can ever come across, so there's not really a quick solution. Since you are on Vista, the most likely guess is that you may
    a) need to trash the prefs and
    b) disable OpenGL by removing the AE_OpenGL.aex plugin
Either of the two or the combination of them both might provide a solution. Also check your version of Quicktime and update it, if necessary.

  • After Effects CC won't open on Mac OS X.9

I'm trying to use my first CC installed app – After Effects 12.2 CC – and can't get it to start. I installed the program then updated to the latest version (12.2) Messages below related to loading preferences on startup.
    Mac OS X.9.3. MacBookPro dual 2.9 (i7) w 8 Gig RAM.
Note also that we have had earlier version of After Effects and other Adobe CS55 studio on this machine. I uninstalled CS55 studio.
3 Meassages that appear on startup below:
After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/wcrogers/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.2/Workspaces.948.1407352820784801.xml' to 'Workspaces.xml'.
After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/wcrogers/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.2/Workspaces.948.1407352820784801.xml' to 'Workspaces.xml'.
After Effects can’t continue: unexpected failure during application startup

from:  known issues and workarounds for After Effects CC (12.2) | After Effects region of interest
After Effects fails to start on Mac OS with warning message about not being about to rename or move a file.
(This, too, isn’t actually an issue specific to After Effects CC (12.2); it affects every version of After Effects and a lot of other applications.)
In some cases, After Effects fails to start, giving a warning message like this:
“After Effects warning: Could not rename the file ‘/Users/USERNAME/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.2/Workspaces.numbers.xml’ to ‘workspaces.xml’.”
The warning might be about something somewhat different, but any message that says that a file can’t be written, overwritten, or renamed is likely caused by the same root issue:
This happens because Mac OS has incorrectly set the permissions for some files, preventing After Effects from writing and moving the files that it needs to operate.
One common cause of this problem is that when you upgrade a Mac OS (as opposed to installing the new version fresh), Mac OS will often set permissions of folders and files incorrectly.
To fix this in the case of After Effects, go to the preferences folder and set the entire preferences folder ( Users/USERNAME/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.2/ ) and all of its contents to be writable, not read-only.
Note that Apple hides the Library folder by default, so you’ll need to show the Library folder. See this page on the Apple website for instructions on setting permissions.

  • After Effects CS5 won't open - Dynamic Link Issue - URGENT

    hello folks,
a week ago i installed the cs5 production premium and everything worked fine. today when i came to the studio, my AE was working fine (no Optocal Flares installed). then i had to open an old AE project (i think cs3), imported it and hey, OF plug in missing. installed that, reopened and got that message on the startup:
i tried to reinstall it, but it dind't help, also the OF removal didn't achieve anything. and now i'm here, looking for help. any quick advise there what to do?
    system running: mac pro, 10.6.4
    complete failure report on demand
    +++ thank YOU +++

    hi mylenium,
thx for the answer. but my problem is still not solved. after researching  i decided to reset my system via time machine. and it worked again. OF was working also, properly. but, i've redone the same mistake as before: i have premade scripts folders with maybe not compatible cs5 scripts in it, which i've copied into the cs5 script folder. and that provokes the issue i'm having ... trying to solve it a second time now...
there are so many application support folders, which one do i have to clean up for this?
    thx
    dude

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Adobe software is conflictive when you use Migration Assistant because their applications don't work properly after migration. If you keep the DVDs or the installers of your software, use them to reinstall all your Adobe applications and they should start working correctly

  • After Effects CC won't update

    Hi,
After Effects CC won't update on both my computers.
Every time I try to install the AE CC update, the installer asks me to close AdobeCrashDaemon to continue.
After quiting AdobeCrashDaemon and checking Activity Monitor to make sure it's not running, the installer keeps asking me to close AdobeCrashDaemon.
I hope you can help me.
    Thanks,

    Hi Jeff,
I checked the installation log file and found the error notice:
ERROR: DS015: Unable to read symlink target of source file "/Applications/Adobe After Effects CC/Adobe After Effects CC.app/Contents/Frameworks/mc_dec_amr.framework/mc_dec_amr"(Seq 4)
I opened the folder Applications/Adobe After Effects CC, and can't find the rest of the /After Effects CC.app/ etc. path inside it.
What would be the next step to solve this?

mac book pro with Mavericks 10.9.5

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

How do you know the library was modified with iPhoto 9 (11)?  If you've never had iPhoto 9 on your Mac it could'nt have.  It sounds like a damaged library. Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
