After getting an update from 10.6.8 many of my programs were no longer able to open. How can I undo the update or solve this problem another way?

Do you have a bootable clone from prior to the update? If so, roll back with that.
Are your apps that won't open PPC and do they need Rosetta? Do you need to activate Rosetta?
Have you considered reinstalling 10.6 from your install disc and then coming forward with the 10.6.8 Combo Updater, then doing software update and not including whatever it was you installed that caused this propblem?
By the way - what update was it that caused this problem?

How can I undo the update to Safari 5.1?

The update to Safari 5.1 caused my favorite Sudoku widget to stop working. This happened twice on two separate computers (Mac Pro desktop and MacBook Pro laptop); both had been running Mac OS 10.6.8 and Safari 5.0.x before SW Update installed Safari 5.1 instead last week. I'm not sure what the connection is between the widget and Safari, but In both cases, the widget worked fine immediately before the upgrade from Safari 5.0.5 or 5.0.6 to Safari 5.1 and stopped working immediately after. Safari 5.0.x worked fine under OS 10.6.8. However, when I downloaded and reinstalled Sarari 5.0.6 from Apple's website, I received a message that that version (5.0.6) couldn't be used with this OS, which is still 10.6.8. The message is obviously not true, since they've been running happily together for several weeks now. I got the same message when I attempted to restore Safari 5.0.5 from Time Machine on the MacPro.
(I tried downloading and reinstalling the widget, but it still doesn't work under Safari 5.1. Switching to a different Sudoku widget is no good because I really don't like the game design.)
I know the widget is third party - I'm not asking Apple to make Safari 5.1 work with it - but there should be a way to undo the 5.1 update and return to the version that used to work.
For reference, I've experienced no other problems with Safari 5.1 except an inexplicable preference for opening links in Internet Explorer (which, last I heard, hasn't been supported for the Mac environment since IE v. 5.)

I just received this information from the Chemical Abstracts Service that provides the web-based SciFinder chemical structure and literature search software. I'm not using OS X Lion, so I'm not sure if the comment about Safari 5.1 being "unable to run Java-based applications" applies under OS 10.6, but it might explain my problem? I plan to check the links below, and they might help others having difficulty under OS Lion.

I get my office email online at an owa.mail.com website. I have delegate access to several people's calendars for work. Before the latest update, when I checked the box for someone else's calendar, it would split the calendar space and the other calendar would be next to mine. Since the update, when I click on another calendar, it splits the calendar space the way it used to, but the other calendar doesn't show. I need this for work, so I had to download Opera and it works as it should there. What do I do?

Could you check for a zoom/wrap issue by reducing the zoom level by one or two increments? You can do that by holding the Ctrl key down and tapping the - (minus) key a couple of times. If that makes no difference, you can reset to the default zoom level by holding Ctrl and tapping 0 (zero).
If you haven't tried it, when you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

I wish I could have told my sister about this as she could not open my homepage back before my new iWeb site. She now can open my site without the yet in case denial window does appear = I thank you.
I think my iWeb site works as Noone has said otherwise from any platform etc...

I do agree that should not have to be a consideration for any users so i agree that it would be great if Apple could allow simplicity to run seemlessly.
I have had this problem since Homepage, and here is
what has worked for me. I send out the link, and
then for PC users I send the link with "<" after the address (without quotation
marks. e.g., <http://site.com>).
I also put a note that if that doesn't work, to just
copy and paste the link into a browser. With that I
have only had 1 person say they still can't open.
Everyone else gets it to work.
It's a lot to do and seems like a hassle, but you get
used to it.

Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

It's happening because you are using the same Apple ID for iMessage. You don't need to do anything with your iCloud account to fix this. You should create a separate Apple ID for her device to use with iMessage and FaceTime. (You can continue to share the same ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores if you wish; it doesn't need to be the same as the ID you use for other services.) Once you've done this, on her device go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with the new ID. Do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.
Another caution is that if you share and iCloud account with her, any data you both sync with the account such as contacts, will be merged and the merged data will appear on both devices. If you don't want to end up with each other's contacts, calendars, etc. on your devices, you should have separate iCloud accounts to. If you want to make this change, go to Settings>iCloud on her device and tap Delete Account. (This only deletes the account from the device, not from iCloud.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data be sure to choose Keep On My iPod. Then set up a new iCloud account with her new ID, turn on iCloud data syncing again, and when prompted choose Merge.

Yes, I just get that message. I don't see how I could investigate this problem.
I didn't mention that this happened when I was consolidating my library, not copying files to another computer.
In other words, I'm using a "normal" itunes procedure, itunes won't complete it, and won't tell me exactly why or how to figure out how to fix it...
Is there at least some easy way to tell which files were successfully copied to my itunes music folder so I can work on moving the uncopied files?

The Reset feature adds a folder on your desktop named Old Firefox Data. I recommend hanging onto that for a few weeks in case you discover something essential that the Reset feature left behind.

You can't delete the update and your problem probably is not in the Update.
Check to see if Location Services is turned ON. (Settings > Privacy > Location Services)

I ended up un-selecting all the songs in library(edit->select all, then right click and uncheck), setting the ipod to "update checked songs only", then syncing which removed songs.
Then select all songs again, re-sync and solved.
Don't forget to undo the "update checked songs only" option.
I think the manual solution above may have been easier, but only read that solution now.
