After OSX v10.8.2 Supplemental update of 11/2012, whenever I try to open Terminal app I get "Terminal quit unexpectedly".
I get Terminal quit unexpectedly with the an error trace as shown below. As far as the app should be concerned it is being opened for the first time as this is a new profile and the following user preference file isn't present ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist.
Just incase the image file isn't all too legible. I see

After OSX 10.8.2 Supplemental update I started seeing the following errors
In fact after the update my profile was hosed with the system not going to sleep and with all appss seeing the spinnng wheel. Which I suspected was some form of cache or indexing. I had to reset a new profile on my system, which resolved most of the isymptoms of what appeared related to spotlight indexing gone wild. After following the advise on https://discussions.apple.com/message/20525643#20525643 I was able to resolve all but the following problem
kernel[0]: smb_smb_negotiate: Support for the server FERMAT has been deprecated (PreXP), disconnecting

What is this related to?
Does anyone know the root cause?
I know my Unix/Linux system was lot simpler then OSX, with all the layers inbetween to make this OS appear nice and shinny thing it seems some one forgot the value of simplicity. This seemed to help a friend of mine with a similar issue (frequent BBOD):

V10.8.5 Supplemental Update 1.0 froze after reboot
While running OS X 10.8.5 I installed the "OS X v10.8.5 Supplemental Update 1.0" from the Software Update menu, and the initial install process succeeded, and then prompted me to restart the machine as expected.
I clicked restart and then during the start-up process, a dialog "Installing Software Update…" appeared, got to about 80% progress and then froze with "Less than a minute" to go:
I waited about 20 minutes for something to happen, but nothing moved at all.
So then I forced a restart by holding down the power button, and the machine rebooted and everything appeared normal.
But I was worried that the update had not installed correctly, so I downloaded the combo update for "OS X v10.8.5 Supplemental Update 1.0" from Apple and re-installed it. Again, the initial install process succeeded and prompted me to restart. However this time, no additional install dialog appeared during the startup process.
After the startup, things appeared normal, except there was no OS X menu bar at first - it wasn't until I clicked an app in the Dock that the OS X menu bar suddenly appeared (I don't know if that's significant or related).
I rebooted the machine once more, and everything seems completely normal now. Software Update is not prompting me to install the supplemental update again (says there's nothing to install).
Any idea what happened? What is the purpose of the "Installing Software Update" process that runs after startup? And what is the significance and likely impact of it freezing at 80% and not completing? The supplemental update did address the 'slow' Time Machine backups under 10.7.5 - if this is your first backup, and depending on how much data you are backing up, I would guess that it could take 6-9 hours, but certainly not 2 (or 99) days. If it seems that the backup is 'hung' just stop it, reformat the external drive, and try again. For some great Time Machine troubleshooting tips, see http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html.

Mac OS X v10.7.5 Supplemental Update 1.0
I installed Mac OS X v10.7.5 Supplemental Update 1.0 a few days ago, which said (amongst other things) that it was to improve TimeMachine Backup times... yet, previously it was estimated to complete in 2 days, yet since the install the estimate is now 99 days...
Not sure that it is a great improvement (although this is an initial sync)The supplemental update did address the 'slow' Time Machine backups under 10.7.5 - if this is your first backup, and depending on how much data you are backing up, I would guess that it could take 6-9 hours, but certainly not 2 (or 99) days. I have upgraded Snow Leopard with Combo 10.6.8, the supplemental update and fixed permissions, but still can't open app store to upgrade to Mountain Lion. I am on the Cayman Islands. Thanks for the help!
Don't be afraid to bump this topic. There's also an App Store forum where you might repost this question, but give some of these details in your post. I'd rephrase the topic to something like "Can't use App Store to upgrade." (Instead of can't "open".) Then give the details.

after i update the 10.10.2 OS X Yosemite my iPhoto stops working. In the warning that appears when I try to open the app says that happened a mistake because of this update. I reinstalled the app but doesn't work anyway. Please, HELP!
I already tried that but it doesn't work. Appears a warning saying: "See the developer to make sure that iPhoto works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install all available updates in the application and OS X."

Solving MSVCR80 issue and Windows iTunes install issues.
If the above doesn’t do the trick entirely, then use the instructions in the following as it applies to the version of Windows you are using:
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
You may be required to boot into safe mode to complete the folder deletion process. -
downloaded Appleworks 6.2.9 for Mac Updater-2.sim but when i try to open the file i receive the message "legacy image should be updated". what does this mean and/or entail?
Mavericks is not recognizing the .smi extension - on my Mac it thinks it's a RealPlayer document. You are not going to be able to do anything with this - it requires AppleWorks to be present to be updated, and you can't run AppleWorks on Mavericks (other than by the rather roundabout process of installing Snow Leopard Server in Parallels and installing AppleWorks on that, as described here).
