After restore , uninstall, and reinstall, firefox still crashes on startup on Mac

I had about 20-30 tabs open, but that has never been an issue. Firefox was slow to load an active page, and suggested restore. I clicked restore and tried to reopen firefox. the main page came up and then crashed. I tried again and it crashed again. I opened in safe mode, and it crashed. I uninstalled from the app folder, opened opera to download and reinstall, and it still crashed. That was two days ago. I cleaned everything off the computer related to firefox in the spotlight search, and uninstalled and reinstalled. It opened for a little longer, and crashed again.

  • Firefox won't do the Master Password thing on mynew laptop. I have to eneter P/W's on each site i vist. it has worked fine on my PC, but even after i uninstall and reinstall Firefox, it still doesn't work.

    i used to run the Norton password feature (it came w/ the new laptop) but now that i switched to McAfee, it doesn't recognize when i go to different sites. I've set up everything in the Mozilla menu (Tools, Options, Security, etc). it doesn't ask me of it want it to remember the password when log into Yahoo/Google/Facebook/etc)
    i really like this feature and would like to figre out how to make it work. it works fine on my PC, by the way, just not on my laptop

    I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
    When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
    At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
    I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • I still cannot view flash players in firefox after uninstalling and reinstalling firefox and flash multiple times. how do i fix this issue perminantly?

    I can go into chrome without any issues and watch any video without any problem. the second i get into firefox nothing works. i have had this issue on and off for years. i really do not see why you cannot fix this if everybody else can. i have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and flash player multiple times. nothing seems to work. I am truly getting really tired of this same problem year after year, i stay with firefox because you are privacy conscience and are being more so consistently. i do not know what other details to tell you other than this just keeps happening and it is making it very tough to do anything on firefox when i cannot use a simple thing such as flash player. as i said, if the other browsers can fix this i see no reason why firefox cannot year after year. i hope there is a simple fix for this problem because it has basically halted a lot of my work on the net as i will no longer use google or microsoft. thank you

    Firefox does not play videos. That is the job of the plugins.

  • How do I get rid of the blue "downloading the latest applications" bar which won't go away even after uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox?

    Can't get rid of the blue "downloading the latest applications" bar that seems to be just hanging and won't go away. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but the bar is still there after 2 days. I updated something (can't remember what!) on I.E., and it had the same blue bar, but it had a box I could x out of so it went away on I.E. I don't know why the blue bar is there on Firefox, as I did the update while on I.E.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I updated an application while on Internet Explorer.

    Annette,
    #In the menu bar, at the top of the Firefox window, Go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions.
    # Locate ''each ''of the following extensions by name and click the disable button
    #Restart Firefox as prompted and see if the undesired toolbar has been removed.
    #The extensions to disable are: '''Crawler Toolbar''', '''MP3 Rocket Toolbar''', '''MSN Toolbar''', '''Search Helper Extension'''
    If you don't need some / all of those toolbars, consider leaving them disabled.
    You can probably remove these toolbars permanently from Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.

  • Firefox won't open pdf files; uninstalled and reinstalled Firefoxes, updated all extensions,etc. still getting error messages.

    When I attempt to load a .pdf file, a window pops up reading "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (4:4)"
    I have tried rebooting the computer, uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, making sure all plug-ins are updated (they are), disabling every other plug in to see if it was interfering (they weren't -- still got same message), and reinstalling adobe reader (and flash, just for good measure).

  • I have downloaded the new update for Firefox 3.6 and now cannot connect to the internet. I've checked my firewall and have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, but nothing works.

    After installing the new update for Firefox 3.6, no matter what I do, I cannot connect to the internet using Firefox. I can get on the internet using my other browsers (Google Chrome and Internet Explorer), so Firefox is the only one that doesn't work. I have already checked my firewall and have added and removed Firefox from my firewall to no avail. I've also already uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but so far it hasn't helped.

    I have already tried removing firefox from my firewall. Even when I do that, my firewall doesn't detect firefox and prompt me to add it. And when I manually add it, it still doesn't work anyways. I've already tried the link as well, but it has been unhelpful. :/
    I'm not sure if it matters, but a few weeks before this, I did download Microsoft Security Essentials.

  • I couldn't update Firefox so I attempted to do an uninstall and reinstall Firefox 12.0 on Mac OS X 10.7.4 keep getting message A copy is already open.

    I attempted to uninstall and reinstall Firefox get message Firefox already open

    I could not open Firefox 13.0.1 when I updated to Mac OS X 10.7.4
    I receive the following prompt:
    '''A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at this time.'''
    I created a new OS user:
    System Preferences> Users & Groups> click on the "+" symbol, bottom left to create new user & save profile.
    Log out of current profile and log in to new OS user profile.
    Open Firefox in new user to see if the application opens.
    In my case the application opened. I then logged out of the new user profile and logged back into my old profile & followed the directions in the following weblink:
    The following link resolved the issue:
    '''http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Accessing_the_Profile_Manager'''
    Scroll down to: Accessing the Profile Manager > Mac OS X
    Close the application completely and make sure that it is not running in the background. Assuming the program is installed in the "Applications" folder, launch Terminal ("Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal") and enter the command starting with / after the prompt in Terminal:
    (Firefox) '''/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -profilemanager'''
    I then deleted the old profile and created a new profile.
    I was then able to open Firefox.

  • Need to uninstall and reinstall firefox, google chrome wont allow it, tells me I go some page open and I have not

    need to uninstall and reinstall firefox , It tells me to close google chome windows I get thi message when I
    go to control panel programs & features high firefox then uninstrall
    I have done the same process with google chrome

    The Firefox uninstaller asks you to close Google Chrome?? That's strange. I assume you have closed ALL browser windows when that happens.
    I should ask: why do you need to uninstall and reinstall Firefox? This usually doesn't fix problems with Firefox. Maybe check out this article: [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]].

  • Firefox states it is already running yet won't open even after I uninstalled and reinstalled

    Hi,
    I was having problems with Mozilla when I'd go to Facebook it would show the page but within seconds I would get check6 (can't remember the rest) error page.
    So I went to help, restart Firefox. It was at this for about an hour and I knew there was a problem so chose to end process in task manager.
    Since then I haven't been able to open Firefox:
    "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system".
    I uninstalled Firefox using Revo Uninstaller and deleted all leftover files, restarted my computer and installed Firefox, but the problem still remains.
    I tried looking through previous questions and noticed I do no have a profile folder which may be needed to delete a lock file....
    Any help much appreciated! thanks

    I had this problem yesterday, actually. You can solve it, but you will lose all firefox data you didn't back up. Then again, because you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I assume this isn't an issue.
    Assuming you've installed windows on the C drive:
    Go to C://Users/yourname/AppData
    If you cant find it, go to your display settings (I hope I translated this correct; I use the Dutch version of Windows) and make sure that hidden files and filders are not being... well, hidden. Shocking plottwist, I know.
    If all goes well, you should now see three folders named Local, Localrow and Roaming.
    Now go to Roaming > Mozilla > Firefox and delete everything thats in there. Now you have an empty FireFox folder, which will force Firefox to start up as if it was never installed before.
    Done! :)
    P.S. Now that you have a fresh new install, save yourself a lot of future pain and install [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync Xmarks] for your bookmarks and [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/lastpass-password-manager LastPass] for your passwords. These add-ons will keep your data safely on their servers, where it is yours to backup and download anywhere in the world.
    Also, if you have about three milion add-ons and personas/themes and you don't want to hunt hem down again everytime you reïnstall Windows or buy a new system, get [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/febe FEBE] to save a copy of them for you. And if you really want to backup like a pro, install [https://www.dropbox.com/ DropBox] (not an addon) and tell FEBE to store its files there, so you can still retrieve them if your house happens to burn down.
    Xmarks, LastPass and FEBE: the holy trinity of Firefox backups :P

  • Why does firefox keep crashing? I ran a scan and there was no spyware or malware. I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. It doesn't happen in safe mode.

    For some unknown reason firefox keeps crashing on my laptop computer. I mostly just use the internet for surfing and for emailing. It is very frustrating when I am trying to write an email and firefox crashes. I have unistalled and reinstalled firefox. I ran a McAfee scan on the computer and it has no problems with spyware or malware. It doesn't crash in safemode either. I am in safe mode now otherwise it would have crashed multiple times while getting to this page and typing this message.

    If Firefox crashes frequently but stops crashing when you are in Safe Mode that is a pretty sure sign that there is something wrong with your individual setup of Firefox on your Windows 7 machine.
    (The 99 others claiming to have the same problem this week probably have their own distinct and separate problems - if you are one of those 99 it may make sense to start your own questions about your problems, if you do not see suitable answers).
    Many malware problems would continue even in Firefox's [[safe mode]], so the good news is that malware may not be your problem.
    Note that safe mode does not disable plugins, you may wish to consider testing with your plugins disabled, just in case they are interacting with something. To temporarily disable plugins use
    * '''Firefox button -> Add-ons -> |Plugins|'''
    You do not list the Firefox extensions that are in use, maybe one of them is a problem. I suggest you try Firefox with half of them disabled, if that solves the problem, the troublesome add-on may be in the other half, disable them all and then try with half of the other half enabled. (If you have more than a handful of add-ons it is faster testing like that than enabling or disabling one at a time)
    One very important question is how do you know Firefox is crashing ? <br/>will you please explain exactly what happens, and what if any error messages you are seeing. (If firefox freezes/hangs that may be different from Firefox or the OS crashing, and require different solutions).
    On a general note the following articles may help with troubleshooting:
    * [[basic troubleshooting]]
    * [[troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_%28Firefox%29]]
    and if the problem is a true crash
