After share moved to new Server User can't save .xls file anymore.

Dear Forum,
we have a strange problem here. Situation:
A fileshare got moved from a very old Server 2000 to our new 2008 R2 Server. Ever since the departments share moved Servers she (and her colleagues) get "unsuspected file lock by user" messages. Even if they unlock it and change something they
can't save it.
There was a file lock from that user even though she wasn't logged in. We removed that.
There were some crude inherited rights from the old share. We purged them and the rights should be ok. (effective file permission says so, too!)
Her tmp files were deleted.
I for example can access the file without problem.
We are currently out of ideas and any help is apreciated.

DW 6 fails to upload and download after site moved to new server.

Cyberduck has same permissions and works fine, so it's not a permissions issue.
We're using the same hosting site, just a dedicated server.
Downloading DW says the file doesn't exist, but it does.
Uploading DW says it can't create the folder the file is to go into, except the folder already exists.
Here'a sample of the error messages:

Problems:
(1) The u_Eng folder already exists, so why can't it find it and use it?
(2) SFTP account settings are the same as used in Cyberduck, and it has no problem with putting and getting files AND in creating folders. So, why is DW failing here as well?

If Cyberduck can connect but DW can't, you might need to toggle settings under More Options. See screenshot.

Can`t save numbers files anymore after upgrading to mac os x lion

i am dumbstruck.
right after upgrading my snow leopard system to the new mac os x lion i am not able to save old files of Numbers any longer.
i was about to update a file and it says that the permissions wouldn`t fit.
but even when i change all the permissions to 777 to problem persists.
any clue whats going on here? apple?!

meanwhile i uninstalled numbers and reinstalled it.
still had the problem with the old files, but now i could somehow make a duplicate (copy) of the file under discussion and save it back to disk. so i am at least able to continue with older files.

Secure Connection Failed: Error code: ssl_error_illegal_parameter_alert - New problem after website moved to new server.

My website was migrated to a new cloud server last week and after the move visitors to my site using Firefox have been intermittently receiving the following error when visiting a https:// url.
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to www.url.com
SSL peer rejected a handshake message for unacceptable content. (Error code: ssl_error_illegal_parameter_alert)
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem. Alternatively, use the command found in the help menu to report this broken site.
Upon a few refreshes the page may load again but often very slowly and often not all images will load.
The web hosts have tried many things, have had cpanel techs check the server and even set up a new ssl certificate to try and resolve the problem with no luck.
Researching the internet shows that people have faced this issue when upgrading Firefox or with certain AntiVirus software conflicts.
However I can't tell all FF visitors to start altering their config files in order to be able to visit my site.
I don't understand how I didn't have this issue prior to the migration but now something has changed that no one knows how to resolve.
For reference: I am using FF 28.0 and I am not experiencing this SSL error on any other site other than my own since the migration.
Does anyone have any information on what the web host may be able to do to fix this SSL issue that only occurs for FireFox users?

Can I backup to Time Capsule after disk repair has failed? How can I save my files?

Downloaded and installed most recent edition of Mountain Lion OSX. All of a sudden, drive is full. Delete photos, unused user accounts. MacBook freezes. Shut it down with power button. Now - drive verified. There are issues. Disk repair has failed - says backup whatever files I can and do a restore.
Can I backup to brand new, never synced Time Capsule? All of the photos of my baby, wedding and the rest of the last five years of my life is in the balance.

If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
1. Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup) or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”

If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. There is no specific other format. They are just AI files. They just have to take care to pick the right version, though inevitably you are going to lose data one way or the other.

The app Goodnotes 3 keeps crashing and I can't save the files anymore

Hi,
I have the app goodnotes 3 but today I changed to another folder inside the app and now it crashes as soon as I open it, so that I am not able to safe my Documents or export them to itunes. I am pretty despreate because there is a pretty important document inside the app that I can't access anymore now. I have tried restarting the app and the ipad but that doesn't seem to change anything.
Would it be possible to make a backup of the ipad and restore it? Or do I loose the documents inside the app ?

When you back up your device using iTunes or iCloud, the application data is saved. You can try the back up and restore to resolve your issue with the app itself crashing on you.

Yes it will work. I've done it for a few users in my small office. As with anything, there are quirks that you may or may not experience. Most quirks are app-related, due to app developers hard-coding absolute paths into their apps for things like temp files (Photoshop). Strategies for resolving these sorts of quirks can be found via google. You would probably have seen these quirks already when using server-based home folders for your kids. If you haven't noticed them, then you're probably fine.
The tech note you cited should be fine. It doesn't explicitly say so, but you'll need to enable ssh on your server, at least temporarily, so you can upload your home folder to the server using scp, rsync, etc. Don't try to copy the files up to the server via Finder.
Once all your files are transferred to the server and in the right place, make sure to chown them on the server, so they are owned by the userID you created for yourself on the server.
As with anything this involved, make a good backup of your laptop first.
Note I have one user that isn't too happy with the responsiveness of the periodic mobile home syncing. She has about a decade of e-mail in her home folder, probably 50 to 100 emails per day, many with attachments. Mobile home syncing takes a long time to check and sync this huge tree of itty-bitty files, eevn with server-side file tracking turned on. The other users are happy.
The nice thing about mobile home syncing is that when a user "graduates" to an age where they've earned their own laptop, you can change them from a server home user to a mobile home user, with a minimum of fuss. Also, if you lose or break a laptop, you can add a new replacement laptop to your network, and pull-down a replica of the home folder from the server, with almost no downtime.

WMV and MP4 is the only formats that give small enough file size.

The iPhone HAS to be active making calls on the UK carrier network for the carrier to identify as "theirs" and therefore eligible for the Carrier to unlock
The way to achieve this is to use a PAYG sim making and receiving calls to establish a customer relationship with the Carrier and then follow the Carrier's process to unlock
With a PAYG it usually means adding a specified (by the carrier ) amount usually £15 /£20 depending on the carrier

To be honest not being able to send or recieve messages and data is a carrier issue, not a phone issue since u said that your calls are working, if i were you my first course of action would be to get a new sim card from virgin mobile, or to restore the device as new one more time, if you restore the device as new AND get a new sim card from your carrier and those features still dont work, i would take the device to an apple store

I have one user when open a file from netowk path (windows server 2003) can read and make changes but when save he can't save the file cuz it's open or in use,
so he had to save it as another name and so on.
and am suer there r no one using the same file.

As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

How to configure security so users can delete their own file(s)?

I have configured our file server so that all users can write/modify in any other user's folder. However, it seems that they cannot delete their own file(s) in another user's folder. Do I have to give all users the "Modify" but not Full permission
so that every user can delete their own file or folder even if it's in another user's folder? I still do not want user A to delete/modify any files/folders that user B originally created.
Any help is much appreciated.

Based on my research, if a user can rename a file/folder, then he/she can save it using the original name, there is no way to prevent this via permission assignment.
You may need to use scripts to achieve this.
