After software update, my Mac Pro 13 has grey screen, spinning but won't re-boot

After update my Mac Pro 13 will not reboot. Grey screen, spinning icon but nothing I tried works.

If your computer is stuck restarting, hold the Power button to turn off your MacBook Pro and turn it on again. As the installation finished previously, nothing will get damaged

  • After software update my macbook pro has no video

After doing a regular software update on my MacBook Pro (2006/7 model) the display no longer works.  I've been running Lion since it came out with no problems (until last night).  I hear the chime and the power light is on.  I've tried the different boot options and still no display.  Booting off a snow leopard disc appears to be running okay (disc spins periodically) but still no video.  I've also reset the PRAM/NVRAM.  The battery seems fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • After software update, required reboot results in grey screen with spinning wheel, cannot get out of it.

How do I get out of a spinning wheel after a reboot from a software update?

Talked to apple about this... The suggested fix is to boot holding Command-R and choose re-install.... I know.... I've never had to reinstall OSX; I thought that type of fix was limited to the Windows world.
Oh well, I guess apple developers aren't perfect after all.
    Good luck!

  • Brand new mac pro has blank screen on start up...why? Can here instructions but can't see

I hae a brand new mac pro and the screen is blank during start up. ***...I can here instructions but can't see screen.

That Mac comes with 90 days free phone support from trained Applecare reps. You should take advantage of it.
Another alternative is to make an appointment at the Genius Bar and have them put their hands on it.
Be sure you do something before your 14-day return/exchange (if you bought it direct from Apple) expires, or you may face a 3 to 5 day repair cycle.
Shine a bright light at the screen when it has booted up.
¿ Is the picture "there" but not lit up?   that could be a backlight failure.
The F2 key is used to turn up the brightness, if it accidentally got turned down low.

Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by one or more of these:

    b. Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
    c. Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD. Simply boot from the Recovery HD to perform the above.
Reinstall Snow Leopard Without Erasing The drive
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing The Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • After Software Updates Applied Mac Mini Freezes after little use

Yesterday I let the computer run updates, now after a short period of use the computer desktop goes to an hour glass and I have to reboot to get control back. Even terminal sessions are frozen. Only Apple software installed on the computer, except for PostgreSQL, Sonos and Mozy. I deinstalled Mozy but that did not help.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I wonder if its a virus?
whatever it is that plagues your machine, i certainly isn't a virus - there aren't any for Mac !
however, i'm running out of options. the only other thing i can think of would be a complete re-installation of Mac OS. if that doesn't fix your mini, and if it's still under warranty, i would start planing a trip to Apple.
before embarking on that path, be sure you're well baked up. if you don't have a spare, get an external HD (USB or, better yet, firewire) and use e.g. Carbon Copy Cloner to bootably clone your startup disk. a current TM backup would also do (but i recommend both).
maybe another user has a better idea. best of luck in any case !

  • Why my mac pro has no Arrangement? (but before i had it)

I used to connect my macpro to TV by HDMI but one day it didnt work and also I can not find Arrangement in Display
Can you please tell me "How to fix it"

Depending on which MacBook Pro you have, but I'll assume it's within the past couple of years, then you need an MiniDisplayPort to HDMI connector.  Here's one in the Apple Store.  I'm sure you can find others at Best Buy and/or Amazon.

Ever since I received my Macbook Pro in July 2011 I've had issues with my wireless connection at home.  After software updates, Apple support suggested I reboot my router which works.  But now I have to do it every other day.  ????  AT&T my DSL carrier suggests I get a new router.  Apparently the one I have is really old and doesn't support my Macbook Pro.  Does this sound right?

If your using WEP encryption yes, Apple has discontinued that becaues it's worthless. WEP (and WPA) is cracked so encryption makes no sense.
Get a new Wireless N router, set it up with WPA2 (AES) Personal and two different 20+ randon letter/numbersymbol character passwords
One for Admin access only of the router, keep this on paper off all comptuers in a safe someplace.
One for entering into devices, computers etc for Internet Access Only.
You need the long and random password to defeat brute force attacks by GPU software that the hackers have now.
Also if you give out the password to another, they can't hack the network with the guest access password.
Computers remember the internet password, so anyone with access to your machines or network will have the password.
Since you have another Admin only password, they can't hack in. got it?
You don't need "Invisible" or "MAC Address filtering" that's a waste of time as hackers can sniff a network and causes issues getting on the network.
    Good luck.

  • ITunes won't open after downloading software update.  Macbook Pro OSX10.6.8  Simple solution?

iTunes won't open after downloading software update.  Macbook Pro OSX10.6.8  Simple solution?  And by the way, this is apparently a common problem and Apple has completely failed to warn in advance or offer a quick straightforward solution - used to be a good company, but it's becoming just another crappy screw-the-consumer corporation.

It would help to know versions here.  I'm guessing your update put an older version of something into a place where a newer version of something iTunes put in there existed.  Updating an earlier OSX version to 10.6.8 is still only updating to system software that was issued several years ago.  If you are running some slightly newer version of iTunes issued subsequent to 10.6.8 and you just updated to 10.6.8 you may have put in an older version of something iTunes uses.  Anyway, I'm guessing here until we know exactly what you did.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Try holding the Shift key while your Mac is starting to start into safe mode. Then, after starting in safe mode, open Finder, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type /Library/StartupItems. Then, empty this folder and restart the Mac.
If your Mac starts after doing this, it was a problem with a third-party app that starts automatically when you turn on the computer. It won't start automatically anymore after doing that

My Mac wont let me download anything, even software updates. it runs the whole download then restarts but tells me an error has occurred.
Please help! Nothing will download and i have a loading bar on start up!!!
The mac hasn't ever given me any problems, it has been since plugging my new iphone 4s into it,
As i havent had internet at my home for quite some time i dont know whether the fact the iphone was at a much newer version than the mac it confused itself????? help me please!?

    Hi there,
If you go to the Apple equivalent of: Appdata\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates (sorry am a mere PC user )
If there is a file titled iphone1,22.1_5F136Restore then try deleting it and then running iTunes without your iPhone attached.
Go to the menu and select Help/Software Updates which should then notify you that there are updates and allow you to download them in advance of restoring.
Hopefully this will download the update. Once completed attach the iPhone and restore.
Hopefully this might sort your issue out.
    Ciao

  • IPhone went bad after software update - iPhone 5 is now stuck on Itunes connect and has vertical lines

iPhone went bad after software update - iPhone 5 is now stuck on Itunes connect and has vertical lines.
I found a video on youtube with similar issues - http://youtu.be/Xuuqxx18-bA
EVERYTHING HAS BEEN TRIED: Restore, Reboot, Recycle, Replacing Cables, etc....
I don't have Apple Care, what to do? Spend more money and buy a new phone?

Here is another person who has a problem with the iPhone 5 screen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc1ZPWSA8dc and they have just received them NEW!!!!!
I myself, two days ago purchased a  2nd hand iPhone 5 that was advertised as having a line of squares at the bottom of the screen. I Googled it and found people saying it was a screen issue and to replace the screen, so I did this and it is still happening with a new screen.
I am starting to dislike Apple intensely after reading forum posts and watching videos where people are asking for help and telling us about issues that they are having with their phones.
Why is Apple getting it so wrong with their updates and manufacturing that they are completely destroying iPhones that cost a lot of money and then expecting the owner to purchase another phone unless they are still in warranty.
Apple you should be going out of your way to put things right for people but instead there is a wall of silence over so many of the issues destroying peoples phones.
    SHAME ON YOU!

    Hi clintfromid,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  I would recommend closing all your apps and restarting and maybe resetting as good initial troubleshooting steps for this:
iOS: Force an app to close

  • USB Audio stopped working on 27" ACD after software update 1.0

    Hi all,
My 27" ACD worked flawlessly until I installed 27-inch LED Cinema Display Software Update 1.0 earlier tonight. I have a unibody MacBook Pro that doesn't output audio from the mini displayport, when I got the ACD Friday, USB audio output worked fine. I also have a 24" ACD and audio worked fine on that as well. But after software update 1.0, I can no longer get audio output of the 27" ACD to work via USB, I even rebooted my Mac and it still doesn't work. After trying it a few times in Sound.prefPane, I now can't even select the "Display Audio - USB" option (when I click on it it reverts to the other option right away).
From /var/log/system.log, I believe this is the error related error message:
System Preferences[332]: Error ^P trying to set sOut device to 264
    Message was edited by: ayn

I have this problem too. I have the 27-inch LED cinema display connected to my Mac Pro 1,1 via the Radeon 5770. I also suspected it had something to do with the machine going to sleep, but the audio doesn't disappear every time it goes to sleep. Unplugging the monitor fixes the problem.
I also noticed that when the sound has went away, if I try to change the volume there will be a long delay before seeing the volume-change graphic. Also, toggling the sound device in System Preferences while the problem is in effect is unresponsive, sometimes giving the beach ball. Finally, this message is seen in console logs when the sound has went away:
    10/19/10 6:01:22 PM kernel USBF: 75053.200 AppleUSBEHCI[0xf3d0800]::Found a transaction which hasn't moved in 5 seconds on bus 0xfd, timing out! (Addr: 5, EP: 0)
I can make this message appear on demand by attempting to change the volume.
If (when) this happens again, I'm calling support.
