If you do not have Rapport or Roboform, then we need to have a crash report ID.
When you send Mozilla a crash report it just puts it in a giant database. We have no way of looking it up without the Report ID. I have no idea what is wrong without looking up the crash report. Please get the Report ID of your latest crash report.<br>

• Firefox crashes, even in safe mode, when I try to add attachments in Yahoo mail -- running Mac OSX 10.4.11, FF 3.6.16.

Firefox has consistently crashed when adding attachments in Yahoo mail. For a while Firefox would crash immediately when I clicked "attach." Then, for a while it would allow me to upload files if they were located in a folder that the Yahoo mail application opened when I clicked "attach," but if I tried to navigate to a different folder, I would crash when I clicked on the root user folder. I then updated Flash and tried Firefox in safe mode, and now Firefox (in safe mode or not) is again crashing as soon as I click attach in Yahoo mail. My system is as above, Mac OSX Tiger (10.4.11) on an original Mac Pro, all stock parts (I had added some aftermarket RAM but removed it some time ago, before these crashes started). Firefox does NOT generate a crash report dialog when I restart.

can't make much of this crash log but try this. when you get to the smtp server page in setup assistant hold option while clicking "create" or 'continue". this will skip the actual server validation and might prevent crashing.

• Firefox crashes, even in safe mode, under certain circumstances.

I'm using up-to-date Ubuntu Linux, other details below.
Firefox crashes, in or out of safe mode, when I do any of the following:
* right click (crashes on-click);
* view flash media (crashes once plugin container opens);
* try to use any of the file/edit etc menus (crashes when i click somewhere in this area);
* open about:tabs or about:config (crashes when i hit enter after typing into url bar);
* when i try to edit anything in about:config (crashes when i right-click);
* open any bookmark from my bookmarks toolbar (on-click).
In case it's related, thunderbird crashes soon after startup, i.e. once the GUI has opened and it starts checking my IMAP folders for mail.
It appears that for most purposes firefox will work indefinitely unless I do something I've mentioned above.
The extensions I run include X-marks and downthemall, but there may be more - I don't appear to be able to check without crashing the program.

Unfortunately the linked crash report is empty (@ EMPTY: no crashing thread identified; corrupt dump) and doesn't include any data, so it is not possible to find the cause of the crash.

thanks for reporting your crash IDs - this crash is triggered by a module named sprotector.dll, which is usually related to adware/malware on a pc. please try these steps:
# go into the system control panel and uninstall toolbars and suspicious software, you don't know which purpose it has (like BrowseToSave, Continuetosave, SaveShare, SafeSaver, WebSearch, SimpleSpeedy, MagniPic and others).
# reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords). afterwards go to firefox > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
# finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that malware isn't present in other places of your system as well.
if the crashes still occur afterwards, please update to firefox 27, which is going to be released later today and should block the sprotector.dll library (see bug 957258)

• Screen freezes, even in safe mode and in BIOS

I’m working on a friend’s laptop: Toshiba, Satellite M65 - S9092
Original problem: The laptop started shutting down after few minutes of use. (Probable overheating)
Took the laptop apart and clean it out. The heatsink, fan and outlets were really plugged up. Put it back together and did a clean re-install, Windows XP. Had few issues with USB drivers not being recognized but worked it out. Ran stress test for a whole day, no problem.
Worked for few days and then USB wasn’t being recognized again and the screen started freezing up. Re-installed os again but it is still freezing up after few minutes, and stays that way till hard shut down.
Screen freezes even in safe mode and in BIOS. (No blue screens)
Switched existing RAM’s around (2 - 512MB), one stick, two sticks, etc…still freezing up. Wanted to upgrade the BIOS but can’t get pass the screen freezing. Not sure if the motherboard may be shot from previous overheating or need new RAM. Don’t want to spend money till I’m sure I’m replacing the right part.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Hi there... I have a satellite A70 - S256 an it was freezing up the same way. I downloaded an OS named UBUNTU fron the internet free of charge. once you download it an burn it to cd you can then boot from it after a couple of tries ( due to freezing). When it boots select your language immediately and choose the option to run memory tests (both installed and BIOS) and let it do its thing for as long as it takes. you should boot from UBUNTU on another working pc to get familiar with it if you are not allready so that you make your selection quickly before it freezes.  You may have to reboot a few times depending on freezing while the memory test is in progress and how much progress is made. This procedure fixed mines and I never had those problems again.

• After updating Firefox to 5.0.1 the add-ons Manager did not show any of my add-ons, although they were all running.

After updating Firefox to 5.0.1 the add-ons Manager did not show any of my add-ons, although they were all running. Several restarts of Firefox, even with the add-ons disabled did not bring them back. I then installed another add-on and after restarting, all of the previous add-ons are now shown in the manager.
Running on Mac 10.5.8. Add-ons installed:
Adblock Plus, Add-on Compatibility reporter, Ant Video Downloader, Forecastfox, Google toolbar, Reload Every, Session Manager, and Steep and Cheap Watcher.
Note: the troubleshooting information was taken after the problem was fixed. Prior to fixing the issue, there were no items under the Extensions heading. Add-on Compatibility Reporter was the add-on that was added to restore all of the other add-ons, even though it was already installed.

Good to know you solved your own problem by simply installing another extension, I like solutions that aren't going to cause extra work, or loss of data.
Here is what people normally have to do for missing extensions, as if not installed.-- <br>https://support.mozilla.com/questions/826729
:http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions_%28Firefox%29
FWIW, renaming or deleting extensions.sqlite and the other files beginning with "extensions." causes the files to be rebuilt from the extensions directory, so nothing is lost, but they will be restored in alphabetical order.
I've solved places.sqlite problems by simply restoring a bookmarks backup, or creating a bookmarks backup and restoring that rather than face loss of history.
Please mark as solved so others will see your answer when looking for solved problems as solutions to there own or other people's problems.

• As soon as I open Firefox it crashes, even in safe mode. I've tried all the options to fix the problem but to no avail. My crash report number is: 1326236186. I hope this helps!

Firefox crashes as soon as I click on the icon. Even in safe mode. I've tried all options of resolving this problem but nothing is working. I really hate using Safari and Chrome. Please help!

Scan your computer in safe mode for bots, malware, trojan's and viruses. Remove any Found and reboot. If Problem still exists, go to control panel, add/remove programs remove firefox. and then download and reinstall firefox. Remember to always close as many running programs like messangers and widgetts when installing any program. This should fix your problem. only other option is to do a system restore to when you were not having any problems, this works 90% of time.

• Can't Boot after crash, even in safe mode!

My Mac froze while idle with Lightroom open. It may have hung while remotely copying something off an external hard drive.
But now it won't boot even in safe mode with all USB peripherals detached (including the hard drive that I might have been copying from).
In and out of safe mode, I get the same behavior. After the sound and the grey apple appear, there is also a progress bar, which I don't recal seeing before. It takes about 30 seconds and the progress bar advances about 10-15% of the way and then just power's off.
Is it the main disk drive?
This is an iMac that is several years old with all of software update applied. I don't believe that any software updates were applied recently. I assume that the 10.6.3 update was installed.
Is it the main disk drive?

I had the same problem on my MacBOOk Pro and iMac on 14th April - i had to reformat the harddisk and could restore from my Timemachine backup to the last 10.6.2 state only. Both happended after updating to 10.6.3. But my laptop was sluggish. Based on feedback, I reformatted my hard disk and carried out a fressh installation from my snow leopard disk (10.6) and updated it to 10.6.3 using the 10.6.3v1.1 combo update about a week back. The machine was definitely faster - but yesterday, the same problem reoccurred - the machine froze and would not boot even in safe mode. Repairing the hard disk using the boot CD did not work either. Just now I reinstalled Snow leopard from the OSx CD - it has replaced the OS and left all apps and data intact. I have upgraded it to 10.6.2 only.
My desktop iMac has been running without problems on 10.6.2 for the last 3 weeks. In my opinion, the problems of freezing (reported by others) and this one here are all related to boot sector corruption due to some problem in 10.6.3. There have been some reports suggesting that after 10.6.3, the CPUs are heating up more. The CPU temp was close to 70 deg C when on 10.6.3 - it maybe that some change after the update makes the processor overrun leading to this boot sector corruption - it generally happens slowly over days or weeks slowly accumulating to a break down point.
My suggestion from my experience over the last one month, is stick to 10.6.2 - don't update to 10.6.3. I am hoping Apple will fix the problems in 10.6.3 update soon.

• Firefox crashes when i open it, wont let me on it at all not even in safe mode and it doesnt give me my crash report?

When i open firefox i get the message Firefox has stopped - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I've also tried to go in safe mode. It would crash and give me the same message.
I've tried opening it by right clicking and clicking run as administrator. It opens then and i tried the solutions it says on the forum to do in safe mode and none of those work.
I have deleted and reinstalled firefox multiple times.
Nothing seems to work.
Also it doesnt give me a crash report.
I troubleshot it and it said "Issue found incompatible application detected " then it says "incompatible application - firefox is incompatible"

The problem began because my computer had to be sent in because it wouldnt turn on so i had to get it fixed they replaced the motherboard this was the second time the motherboard was replaced and once they did that my firefox hasnt worked the same. I can go on google chrome but thats not what i prefer to use.
& when i right click on firefox it says troubleshoot so im assuming its built in to my computer. im not sure.
I tried the profile manager to create a new profile and that has seemed to work so far. No crashing but it does freeze when i got to facebook and then i have to click ctr alt delete to open task manager to end firefox. It happened twice, the third time i went to google, then twitter and it didnt freeze. I then went to youtube and it froze. So Facebook and youtube make it freeze. Any idea why it does that?
& thank you so much for helping and responding to me.

• Firefox freezes trying to download or save files, Import/Export bookmarks, clicking (Tools) Options (was: Fire Fox crashes in Windows safe mode and in Firefox Safe mode)

Hi
XP sp3 4gb ram
Firefox 6.0.2
Firefox crashes every time I do any of the following. Then I have to force quit Fire fox.
If i click a download link on a web page, Firefox freezes the instant I click the link
...but Firefox does not freeze if I click a web link on a web page or page navigation link.
If i go to the Menu bar > Tools > Options, Firefox freezes the instant I select Options from the Tools menu.
...but Firefox does not freeze if select any other item from the Tools menu.
If I go to the Menu bar > File, Firefox instantly freezes the instant I select either "Save Page as..." or "Open file..."
...but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other option from the File menu such as: New Tab, New Window, Send Link, page Setup, Print, Exit etc
If I go the Menu Bar > Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup, Firefox instantly freezes the second I select "Import" or "Export"
... but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other command in the Bookmarks sub menus, nor does it freeze if I back out of the menu entirely.
Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
...so I have isolated the problem to a limited number of commands in Firefox that cause Firefox to freeze... described above. Everything else in Firefox works fine.
HERE IS A SUMMARY OF WHAT CAUSES THE FREEZING:
• Clicking a download link on a webpage
• Going to the Menu Bar > File and selecting "save as" or "Open File"
• Going to the Menu bar > Tools and selecting Options.
• Going to Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup and selecting either "Import" or "Export"
• Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
Everything else in Firefox works fine. I went through every menu command and checked for freezes. Only the commands I mentioned above cause the freezing.
I tried the following to try to fix it:
• Reset my modem and router (Problem still exists)
• Uninstalled FF. Deleted folders, profiles (Downloads.sqlite), Registry entries. Reinstalled. (Problem still exists)
• Restarted FF in Firefox safe mode. (Problem still exists)
• Restarted in Windows Safe mode and then started FF in Firefox safe mode (Problem still exists)
• Disabled Window firewall. Disabled ZoneAlarm firewall, Shutdown ZoneAlarm firewall. Set Internel Options to default settings. (Problem still exists)
• I reset the config option: browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone to false
What does work?
• Firefox does not crash when I click a link an go a website, navigate a page, use a menu item command.
• Firefox works fine on my other computer.
• Internet Explorer works fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
• My other applications work fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
I want to add that, I just overcame the XP Recovery Virus by following a post that suggested running the following software to fix the virus. Everything seems back to normal except Firefox.
The software I ran to fix the problem are listed below:
• malwarebytes
• superantispyware
• ccleaner
• combofix.
• smart defrag
• then load a good anti-virus. (I ran Zone Alarm virus scan)

Hi.
This is about a question you posted to the Firefox Support forum three months ago (I'm sorry you never got an answer).
Did you ever fix the problem where Firefox freezes or hangs, when clicking a download link or using (File menu) "save as" or "open file"? Or when going to the Firefox (Tools) menu and clicking Options ? Or trying to Import or Export bookmarks?
I found this thread searching for a solution for someone on MozillaZine's support forum who's having a similar issue. See this thread: (maybe something he's tried that didn't work for him will work for you?)

Hello,
Tomorrow i was trying to upgrade my firmware of my phone. So i installed one samsung app called "Samsung Kies" after installing that app my firefox suddenly got crashed.
I am a Mac user using OS X 10.8 and firefox 18.
And when i read article about crashing firefox, i found that making new profile will help me but sadly that also doesn't helped me. When i tried to open the profile manager it got crashed too. now every time when i open firefox it crashes after 2-5 seconds...
And this is my latest crash report... found in (lib/application support/firefox/crash report/submitted)
Crash ID: bp-5dd48a7c-2622-4a28-aa0e-92de12130111
Help me please
Thanks in advance.

Hello sanchit77,
Thank you for posting here on the Mozilla Support Forums! We appreciate you as a user of Firefox!
I would suggest a clean reinstall to resolve your issue.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.
IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
* (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
* (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
#Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

• Firefox crashes at startup (no safe mode or profile manager; mal-ware free)

Hello, I've been a loyal FF proponent for years. I'm running Windows 7 HP x64 with all the latest updates. The STRANGEST thing happened this week. I uninstalled my installation of firefox. I'm using a profile I've perpetuated for 3-4 years. I wanted to start clean and have a fresh slate.
Well, now, whenever I try to install firefox (8, 9, or 10), after installation firefox will not start up. I click the icon, you can see it starting up, and then it disappears. No crash reporter, no crash reports in %appdata%. It won't start up in Safe Mode (-safe-mode, or -safemode, or -safe). None of this applies that I can tell: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Fi ... t&r=0&as=s http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes I have tried all combinations of clean installing, rebooting, running from windows safe mode, scanning for viruses/malware (Windows MSE, MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware), and deleting every bit of data left over in */appdata/ I can find for FireFox.
I CAN get Firefox to start up with the "-profile manager" tag at the end (not -p OR -profilemanager, note the space...I believe this forces it to run that profile, even though it doesn't exist), however, it does not load up the Profile Manager, and when I try to visit a site, it crashes, and as far as I can tell, no crash reports are created. It does not create a profile or anything on my hard-drive. In fact, it doesn't look like it's getting far enough to recreate any of the directories I deleted before clean installing.
It is interesting to note, FirefoxPortable runs just fine, I am even running my previous profile with a simple copy/paste of my old profile folder. It runs just fine, except I think it's marginally slower. I'm fairly adept at troubleshooting. I've scanned the web for hours looking for a solution that works. Perhaps I've some registry corruption, but I'm not THAT savvy or knowledgeable on where to look for corruption. If this is the case, CCleaner's reg-cleaner did not fix the problem.
ANY ideas are welcome. I love using FF and my gamut of extensions., I would hate to have to set sail for Chrome.
Thanks!
P.S. I have a hunch this might be a Windows permissions issue...the problem with this hypothesis is that I'm running with UAC turned off completely. I've tried disabling firewalls & whatnot as well.

The attached crash report doesn't have any data in it, so it doesn't help the find a cause of the crashes.
If you have one that does have data in it if you check the link then please post the crash ID of such a crash.

Try a clean reinstall of Firefox and drag the current Firefox application to the trash.
You can also try to do some maintenance.
Try to repair the disk permissions:

• Firefox hangs on startup (even in safe-mode) and no sessionstore.js file to edit.

After a system restart due to Firefox seeming to act strangely, it hangs as soon as I open it. The tab says "Connecting..." but it eventually just stops responding.
Safe-mode doesn't work either, but private browsing is okay (which obviously I'd rather not use primarily.)
I had a few tabs open and I suspect one of them might be a pain for session restore to open, so I figured I would go try to snag it from the sessionstore.js but unfortunately I apparently don't have one.
I tried enabling the "ask before restoring tabs" feature but that didn't help either.

Edit: I used private browsing to change the settings to open a blank page on startup and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much! :)
Thanks for the quick reply!
Will changing that setting work from either private browsing or another profile? Because my default profile just freezes instantly, can't even get to options. :/
The URL I thought might be causing problems was http://brennadaugherty.tumblr.com/ ... I have no idea why it would. I also had http://brennahaspixels.tumblr.com/ open and since that has tons of little images on it that seems more likely but the problem started with that first URL.
I actually started a new profile and transferred everything else over to it and it works fine, but it would be nice to figure out what happened to the first. :/
