After update to 10.9.2, I cannot open a MS Office files on a shared Mac
We have two Macs. Hubby's Mac can't open MS Office files from my Mac. The problelm is only one way. I can open those same files from my Mac and I can open Office files from hubby's Mac. We both have Office 2011.
I get the following error message:
Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document or the file name might contain invalid characters".
I have tried changing the file name, moving the file, duplicating the files, saving it to a earlier version of Word. Nothing woks.
I also get this on Excel.
I called Apple for this problem. They advised me to call Microsoft. I called Microsoft and they told me that the problem is with Apple's virtual drive. They suggested I call Apple and have them turn off my virtual drive.
I have no idea how to turn off a virtual drive.
Any ideas?
I think I have this solved. I turned off File Sharing on both computers, rebooted, and turned file sharing back on. Now Hubby's Mac can open My Mac's files.

If it isn't there then do a clean (re)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
If the file is there then do a malware check with some malware scan programs.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.<br />

Check for hardware issues

It sounds like you can't open your Music app on your iPhone after the update? First, try force closing the Music app if it is open in multitasking, which you can find out how to do here:

And if that doesn't work, I would reset the device:

Re: after updating the app Flight Tycoon, I cannot access the game. Each time I click on the app it goes back to the main page.

Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

You cannot run Photoshop CS on a new Intel-based Mac running OS X Mavericks. CS is far too old.
You'll have to buy Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop Elements 12. Or subscribe to CC. -
i am having problems opening iTunes! ever since I updated to 10.5.3ver, I cannot open the application. I have deleted iTunes and all associated apps (bonjour, Cloud, Apple support apps, etc) and still something is wrong. I cant find it anywhere; where did it go? SAFARI 6.1.3 update to Reader 11.0.07 … cannot open pdf files that are presently on my computer. Previous version had no problem. Any ideas? (Here is the message: Adobe Reader could not open 'Digital_Holiday_Cookbook.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

Had my Nikon D600 recently in for the updated service call. Camera works fine but Photoshop says it cannot open my RAW (NEF) files now? It worked fine before and I have done all my updates.
The only thing I can think of is if you got a replacement D610 as rumored here:

In that case, you would need the new version of Camera RAW or DNG converter as per Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras .
The other thing to check is if the files open in the Nikon native ViewNX software. If they don't it's time to call the service center. -

You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
Since iWeb has discontinued by Apple the new systems don't handle the iWeb preference pane as it was in earlier. The script corrects that situation and once you open the domain file the first time you can just use iWeb to open it from there on. However, you'll need it if you plan on using more than one domain file. And adhear to the warning above.
