After Updating, All I see is the spinning beachball

Hello! I just updated a bunch of programs last night on my ibook g4. Some of which were: safari, itunes, security update. I can't remember some of the others. Everything went well, it finished installing and then asked me to restart the computer, i did and now it will load past the login window and look like it should be loading the desktop, but nothing happens. The pointer just starts spinning. I have gone into disk utility and repaired all perrmission and I have repaired the disk. It fixed some things, but it still wouldn't start. I then started in single-user mode and typed the following: fsck -fy (i think that was it) It also fixed something, so I ran it a second and third time and it said the disk was fine. So I restarted and still nothing, just that spinning wheel. Grrr. Any other ideas? My next step is to just restore the operating system, but that is kind of a pain so I was hoping someone else would have an idea. Thanks!!

Insert disc 1 of your mac os x installation cds. Hold down "c" as you turn the computer on. This will boot from the cd and start the installation process. From here when you are asked t select the hard drive you wish to install on, first click "options" at the bottom of the window. Then select the option you would like. One will archive your old system files and replace them with a new set, which should fix most problems (not mine unfortunately). The other option is to wipe out everything on the hard drive and start from scratch, I am about to attempt this and I am very very frustrated about it. Then just watch it install! Hope it works for you!

You have to consider the possibility the hard drive may be dying. If your data isn't backed up, try one of the tools below:

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

I can boot up my macbook pro but all i see is the wallpaper and the dock and the toolbar at the top. I can not see my hard drive or anything else. please help

Please help. I can boot up my macbook pro and log in but after that all i see is the wallpaper, toolbar and the dock. In the dock it has 2 ? where the doc and download folders should be. If I open up a new finder window it doesnt show anything in there no hard drive or anything. If anyone konws how to help let me know please and thank you.

Agree with baltwo, though even if you have saved the install app I wouldn't use it unless its been used to install a known good copy of the OS already.
In your case, that probably means start fresh:
Restart the computer, holding down 'command' and 'r'. When the recovery disk window shows, choose 'Reinstall Mac OS X'.

I have posted this quite a few times and some of these suggestions have worked for others in the past. See if anything works for you.
1. Tap the "waiting" icon and see if you can pause it. If it does pause, then tap it again and see if it will resume. If that works, repeat the same steps for each "waiting" icon.
2. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
3. Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
4. If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
5. You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again. You can also dete apps in Settings>General>Usage>Storage.
6. You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
7. If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

the update to iOS 6.1.5 has been on my itouch for a couple of months so i decided to just go with it without any knowledge on how to properly do it. All i did was delete my apps and thats only because theres nothing special with them. - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My ipad battery ran out while verifiying the last update. Now all I see on the screen is the plugin symbol with an arrow and the itunes symbol. Help!

Help, as above, lost power part way though verifiying last update.

If you last used an Apple TV to mirror your device and have updated to the newest Apple TV software, go into settings and turn airplay back on. The icon should then appear on your iPad mini when you swipe up allowing you to disable it for Netflix. After updating my Apple TV software for some reason it turned airplay off.

There can be some of that. Unfortunately, it's up to the app developers to make their app work with the iOS.
So checking for updates can help. You can also look at the reviews for the app, see if others have the same issue. If 8 has broken the app, all you can do is wait.
In some cases, a reset can help. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and try again. (this can work if the app is fine with iOS8 but is just glitching...it's a harmless reboot of the system)
Another thing to try is to force quit the app(s) and force them to reboot. Double tap the home button. Flick the preview for the app up and off the screen to close it. Then single tap the home button to exit the mode. Try your app again. If it's just a glitch then this sometimes clears it up.
I know once I updated my devices I then had several updates pushed out - updates that required iOS8 so weren't available before the update.

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility and you will have to wait for an firmware update for the Bose or an iOS update.
