Follow these instructions to uninstall MacKeeper. They have been tested with the most recent version of MacKeeper (v 2.8). Earlier versions than the one released in 2012 require more extensive work to uninstall all its components.
The effects of having actually used MacKeeper to do anything are a completely different matter. The fastest way to take an exquisitely designed and painstakingly engineered Mac and make it run like a steaming pile of dung is to install and use such ill-conceived "cleaning" or "security" products. This is just one example of a broad category of time- and money-wasters capable of causing damage that can only be rectified by reinstalling OS X, restoring from a backup, or completely erasing your system and rebuilding it from the ground up. Never install such junk on a Mac.
If you used MacKeeper to encrypt any files or folders, use MacKeeper to un-encrypt them first.
Quit the MacKeeper app if it is running.
Open your Applications folder: Using the Finder's Go menu, select Applications.
Drag the MacKeeper icon from your Applications folder (not the Dock) to the Trash.
You will be asked to authenticate (twice):
You do not need to provide a reason for uninstalling it:
Just click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. You will be asked to authenticate again.
After it uninstalls you may empty the Trash and restart your Mac. All that will remain is an inert log file that does nothing but occupy space on your hard disk.

Here is a very easy possible solution, worth trying before uninstalling Office. It worked for us so hopefully might work for you.
We installed Yosemite on a test machine to check for problems. Office 2011 for Mac ran and still does run fine on that machine with Yosemite.
As a result we installed Yosemite on our main machines. At the same time we updated Office for Mac 2011 using the latest update 14.4.7. It was at this point that Office started crashing every time a document was opened.
    Solution that worked for us.
1 Using Font Book (comes with your Mac) we removed all duplicate fonts. We selected the automatically remove option.
    2 Restart computer.
    3 Shut down computer.
4 Restart computer in 'safe boot' to do this:
    a) Shut down the computer.
    b) Press the power button.
    c) Immediately after hearing start-up tone, hold down SHIFT key.
    d) Release SHIFT key after Apple logo and progress indicator appears.
    e) Once computer has opened, restart the computer without holding down any keys.
5 Hopefully all should be ok now. Your machine might run a little slow for a while as it rebuilds caches etc but all ours were back at full speed after a few minutes.
    Best Wishes
    Bob

  • My imac was running snow leopard and was upgraded to Mt. Lion. My Microsoft Office for Mac now will not open.  SO since my Office was 2004, I just purchased Office for Mac 2011.  Do I delete the icons before loading Office 2011 OR after I load 2011?

Upgraded my Imac to Mt. Lion and now the Microsoft Office icons will not open WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, or ENTOURAGE.  I just pruchased on Ebay
OFFICE 2011 since my old version was 2004.  DO I REMOVE THE OLD ICONS BEFORE LOADING OFFICE 2011 RO AFTER I LOAD IT???
    THANKS, DR PEPPERMINT

Office 2011 will install in a separate folder. But do not install Office 2011 until you remove Office 2004. It comes with its own uninstalled located in the MS Office folder. Only use the uninstaller to get rid of it. Then install Office 2011.
Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • TS1541 microsoft office for mac 2011 will not install.

Purchased office for Mac 2011 from store. Each time I put install CD in my Mac, it just ejects it. What am I doing wrong? This is my first Mac.

    Check the dvd for scratches.
See if any other dvds work.  Perhaps the drive is defective.
    Try smc and pram reset.

I've been using IMac for 3 years with Microsoft office. Today, I could not open any excel files? Any Ideas?

If you upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion, and did not upgrade to Office 2008 or later, that may be part of the problem.  Try LibreOffice, OpenOffice, NeoOffice, Google Docs, or Zoho Docs.  See my FAQ* for link:  http://www.macmaps.com/crossplatform.html

  • Since yesterday all my usual .xls files will not open (Office for Mac 2011). Can open .xlxs files. Default 'open with' is Microsoft Excel.app. No software updates done. Have repaired disc permissions. What next?

Since yesterday all my usual .xls files will not open (Office for Mac 2011). CAN open .xlxs files. Default 'open with' is Microsoft Excel.app. No software updates done yesterday or the day before (or maybe a Silverlight or an Acrobat one by accident?). Have repaired disc permissions. HHD name is still same as it always was. What next? Thanks
PS I'm not a great techie so assume I don't know what you're talking about!

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.
    Repair User Permissions

  • Why Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 does not support Arabic and persian?

For Arabic/Persian on  a Mac, the best app is Mellel.  But TextEdit, Nisus Writer, or OpenOffice should also work OK.

  • Office for Mac 2011 - can't open old files

I am currently on Mac OS X v10.6.8.  I recently installed Office for Mac 2011.  I cannot open some of my old files.  I think the ones that use the old file names, e.g. .doc and .xls, rather than .docx and .xlsx.
Can anyone explain how I can open these files in my Office for Mac 2011?
    Many thanks!

The free LibreOffice will open them, and it's the most cross platform office program (Linux, OS X and Windows versions)

  • Office for Mac 2011  is not working with Lion.

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled all of the Microsoft files for Office 2011 for Mac, and I am getting the error message below. And, what's more, is that above that it says to check with Microsoft to make sure that Office 2011 is compatible with this version of OS X. So, does ANYONE have ANY ideas on this?
    Thanks...

If you want to have the icons in your main Applications folder, use alias icons.
You also need to update it to version 14.1.4, if you move the applications from that subfolder, the update process will probably fail.

  • Help!  Office for Mac 2011: contact notes disappear WHILE I TYPE THEM!

BIG problem.  Finally (yay!) just converted my entire small company to Macs - spiffy new Macbook Airs for everyone, Microsoft Office 2011, etc.
Here's what I did (and reproduced on multiple other brand-new computers):
    1)  Click on vcard link in Safari, so new contact opens in Outlook.
    2)  Select 'Notes' tab under the contact, and begin typing contact notes.
    3)  Anywhere from 10 second to 1 minute later, while I'm typing (or thinking about what to type), *poof* everything I just typed in the notes section of the contact LITERALLY DISAPPEARS.
This is a potential CATASTROPHE.  I need to solve this, ASAP, or this whole company, all the computers, all that work to get this done, GONE AND DONE.
If it helps - all brand new computers/software; Microsoft-hosted exchange server; ugh!!!

    Two interesting additional findings:
1 - this only happens with vcard-originated new contacts - NOT new contacts created directly in Outlook.
2- Potentially BIG finding - as noted, we are using a Microsoft hosted exchange server.  The 'notes' text in the vcard-originated new contact vanishes WHEN THE LITTLE SYNC PROGRESS BOX ACTIVATES - ie, when Outlook is syncing with the exchange server.

  • Office for Mac 2011 - unable to open SharePoint docs since SSL 3.0 disabled

We've disabled SSL 3.0 on our SharePoint 2010 servers in response to the POODLE vulnerability.  Now Mac users are unable to open SharePoint documents using Microsoft Word 2011.  The error they get is:
No connectivity with the server.  The file can't be opened because the server couldn't be contacted.
Mac users are also having similar connectivity issues to SharePoint from Document Connection.
Anyone seen this and can suggest a fix?

I had the same issue. It was resolved by enabling the TLS_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA cipher on the SharePoint web front ends. I detailed my findings
on the forum thread linked below.

  • Excel for Mac 2011 document not opening correctly

Please help!  I have a Mac Book Pro (OS X Mavericks) with Office 2011 installed.   I received what should be an excel document with the .xls extension, but when I double click to open the file, I get a MIME-Version: 1.0 document instead.  This document is unreadable - how can I open it in an excel document?

No, I am talking about Apple's Preview application.  Its icon looks like this:

  • Will Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 work on my iMac with Mountain Lion OS?

Help!  I have downloaded Mountain Lion (10.8.4) on my iMac. Now I can't open or use files that contained labels I made with Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 because Mountain Lion does not support Power PC and Microsoft Excel.  If I purchase and download Office for Mac 2011, will it allow me to continue using these label files?  If not, how can I get a database for my iMac that will enable me to create labels and catalogues?

Thanks, Niel.  I'm glad to know purchasing the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 will enable me to retrieve and use my "ancient" database label files.  I did try to get OpenOffice, but my computer says "'OpenOffice' can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer" and my "security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."  How can I do this?  I really don't know about the inner workings of my computer!

  • HT203300 Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 no longer syncs contacts and calendars after upgrading to Yosemite

Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 no longer syncs contacts and calendars through iTunes after upgrading to Yosemite. It worked fine until I made the mistake of upgrading. Help!?

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
The many "failed" or "killed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews are not a reason to reinstall the OS.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What other changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.
