AI CS5.1 vrs AI CS6 Performance Issue MacPro
Hi,
I have been happily using AI CS 5.1 (from 5.5) and I have a series of files I created. They are 20x24, 300 DPI and have some type and drawing and a placed 300 DPI 16x20.psd file. They open in about 3 seconds on v5.1, and on v6 they take 3-5 minutes just to open. It's torture.
Working with a series of 9 different but similar files like this drove me back to v5.1!
I have a 2009 MacPro 3,1 2x2.8 Quad Core Intel Xeon with 8 GB RAM.
Any help would be appreciated.
Some minor points:
Do I need more RAM for CS6? I've read on this forum that 64 bit apps like RAM, but it seems so odd that things click and pop in the older version and nearly kill me in CS6 version.
What could be slowing down the performance? Hardware, software or the combination of the 2?
When did Adobe drop all prgress bar feedback during open. Waiting 5 minutes for a file to open without any indication that it's working is bad. The dock icon long ago had a progress bar over the app icon. I wonder when that changed?
Thanks in advance, and so long for now, TOM
You have no idea how many times I've read that very document. So many I've lost count. And this is the first time the importance of what it says there ("A linked After Effects composition will not support Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing") has sunk in. Thank you.
But there definitely is something to fix, because this is very clearly broken. Time for yet another feature request. Sigh...

After Effects CS6 Performance issues
Hello all. Well, got three new mac pro 12 core systems all running 65 - 128gigs of ram with Quadra 4000 GPU cards, up to date drivers, up to date AECS6 and dedicated 500 gig solid state drives for global cache. Their all set-up according to Adobe specifications/instructions. And, no we are not working with the ray trace activated in comps.
We have all noticed that performance on some projects is painfully slow. In fact some projects which run fine on an older MacPro with AE CS5.5 creep on the new boxes running CS6. So slo in fact we have had to abort and jump to the older machines to get things done in a timely manner. Simple things like typing text, navigating the GUI and scrubbing the timeline are frustrating. We are not new to mac boxes or After Effects. We have all been using AE since version 4. It also seems like projects with a lot of footage in them or a lot of stills that have higher resolution dpi really seem to bog. Something is definitely wrong here. Soloing doesn't seem to help, reducing resolution doesn't seem to help and have tried about every preference option to free up performance.
If anyone else is experiencing these same issues, I would love to hear about it or possible solutions. The global cache is really nice when all hardware/software is hitting on all cylinders, but something seems a miss. Not getting why there are performance issues on some projects and basic operational uses like text.
Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

JavaScript and PS CS6: Performance issue
Hi folks
I have to admit we are stuck in our development: We have written a Phothoshop Plugin unsing extensive JavaScript and Flash Panels / Action Script.
The Javascripts would, eg. select a given layer. When running the Javascript in PS CS5 or 5.1 everything is smooth and snappy but we've noticed, that the same JavaScript running in PS CS6 takes up to 300% more time.
Does anyone having observed the same performance issues?
Would it be faster to address the specific layers by their native Layer ID's rather than their names?
Why is there such a performance slow down with the same JavaScripts / ActionScript-FlashPanel between CS5 and CS6?
We have already contacted [email protected] (we are solution partner silver) but they do not start acting if you are using your own JavaScripts....
You are our last hope :-(
I can send you some of the code but I don't want it to be publicly exposed here.
Thanks in advance,
AndrashHi, since nobody bothers to answer we might have to find out ourselfs.
Maybe it is caused by the way we address layers throug the script?
Which method are you using?
Are you addressing the layers directly or are you just cicling throug an array of layers?
Are you pointing for the layers by their native ID or rather their layer names?
How do you trigger the script: by another script? From a flash panel (Flex / Action Script)?
We are using Flash Panels to start the script. The script simply calls a layer by it's name (a numerical ID that we apply to the layer). The script shall look up that specific layer and check if there is some content on the layer. We created a logger to see where the heavy amount of time is consumed and it seems, that it is while jumping to the layer.
In CS5 that was all a matter of a split second. Now in CS6 it takes a couple of seconds (4sec.). We asked ADOBE Techsupport for help, but they didn't even bother to look at the problem since we are working with self written code (as every developer does.....?!?!). I wonder what techsupport is good for if not answering techical problems like this one.
I hope that, with your answers we might circle in the cause of the problem!
Cheers,

After Effects CS5.5 - Very Serious Performance Issues w/RAM Preview
My system: Windows 7 Professional, two Intel Xeon X5650's, 12GB RAM, and a NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800.
Problem: RAM Preview in CS5.5 gives me less than 2 fps (yes---two frames per second). This is even with the most simple of compositions. I created a 1080p 23.976 project with two simple solid layers and keyframed position and scale values for one of them with no other effects on either solid. RAM Preview gives me 1.8 fps.
I still have AE CS5 installed and it gives me solid, predictable results with RAM Preview. When I create a similar test project inside CS5, it creates the RAM preview almost instantly and displays in proper realtime (23.976 fps).
My settings for both CS5 and CS5.5 are similar (and I have tried many variations in my attempt to fix this problem).
PREVIEWS
Fast Previews: Adaptive Resolution Limit 1/4
Enabled OpenGL and both sub-options for OpenGL enabled.
MEMORY & MULTIPROCESSING
RAM reserved for other apps: 4GB
I have tried various settings for Multiprocessing, all of which results in the same less-than-2 fps RAM Previews. Currently I have MP'ing enabled with 1.5GB allocation per background CPU and the actual CPU's used is 4. Again, no matter what I set it to, I get the same performance issue.
On my screen magnification ratio setting, I am using 25% and my Resolution/Down Sample is set to quarter. On my preview tab, I have tried setting my resolution from the default of "Auto" to "Quarter" with no difference.
In summary: On the same machine, AE CS5.5 RAM Preview offers terrible performance; CS5 RAM Preview offers great performance.Under AJA Preview there are check boxes, one for "Video" and the other for "Preview." I've checked and unchecked them both and I'm still getting poor RAM previews. No matter what I have toggled, I seem to get between 1 and 2 fps for my RAM Previews.
I am not currently using the AJA card for anything. I will consider uninstalling it if this might possibly solve my problem. It's just a hassle to install and uninstall cards on a per need basis.
If there are any other thoughts, I'd love to hear them. At this point, I'd do just about anything to have realtime previews back.
The machine I'm using, by the way, is an HP z800 with Windows 7 Professional, two Intel Xeon X5650's, 12GB RAM, and a NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800. It has the following installed: CS5.5 Production Premium, AVID Media Composer 5.5.2, and AVID DS 10.5.1 (among other programs). -
Photoshop Cs5, opengl, large files, performance issues.
Hello
I have fresh win7 64-bit install.
Also I have fully upgraded system, new cool whql drivers and my old file form Cs4.
Specs:
Intel D5400xs board
Dual quad xeons
8Gig ram
Nvidia 9800GT 512 Card (Maybe it's not a quadro or other fancy sh*, but like I saw earlier on forums, users have same problems with high-end cards like I with cheap chip)
Dedicated diskn'n'channel for scratch disk.
Wacom intuos 3
Clean system with no other software.
Fully supported opengl - ps says.
No artifacts.
And the problem is:
I have a file created in Cs4 [~300 small simple layers (website), ~50 smart-objects, and 9000x3000px72ppi]
Time to open file 30-40sec. Interaction with this file is very very slow.
Zooming hang-up ps for a 5-10sec.
Wich settings should I use for speed up Cs5?
Cs4 works much faster. I made that file in CS4 with no problems.
Grtz.Ok, maybe I'm not a specialist, but I found the answer in my case.
Memory usage
Let photoshop Use: 70% (~5000MB)
Hisotry&Cache
History states: 69
Cache levels: 8
Cache tile size: 132K instead of 1024K (Here is turbo option ; )
GPU Settings
Advanced with vertical sync and anti-alias Guides and Path
Now -> Opening file 10s, no hang-up's, fast zooming and moving - really fast.
So if U have file like me, use settings described above.
If anybod has more info about performance please write about it.

Performance issues with ID CS5
Am working on netowkred Windows XP Pro Intel Core 2 6300 1.83GHz 3 MB RAM computer and just installed CS5 Premium.
Am having issues with moving linked objects such as eps or jpegs (especially larger ones or grouped bunches of small jpeg pictures at once)
Have set preferences to Proxy and lowest display settings but does not help
Am not able to position the grouped items as they jump all over the place, and moving is very choppy even with smaller groups or single ai files.
There are 3 of us here with all same computer specs and we are all have same issue.
Any suggestions? The 7.0.3 update is supposed to help with this, but the primary way to work around this is to open the preferences and set Live Screen Drawing to Delayed.
EPS images can also put a drag on performance, and are a dprecated format. Native .psd or .ai files are preferred. -
Performance Issues with Photoshop CS6 64-Bit
Hello -
Issue at hand: over the course of the last few weeks, I have noticed significant issues with performance since the last update to PS CS6 via the Adobe Application Manager, ranging from unexpected shut downs to bringing my workstation to a crawl (literally, my cursor seems to crawl across my displays). I'm curious as to if anyone else is experiencing these issues, or if there is a solution I have not yet tried. Here is a list of actions that result in these performance issues - there are likely more that I have either not experienced due to my frustration, or have not documented as occuring multiple times:
Opening files - results in hanging process, takes 3-10 seconds to resolve
Pasting from clipboard - results in hanging process, takes 3-10 seconds to resolve
Saving files - takes 3-10 seconds to open the dialog, another 3-10 seconds to return to normal window (saving a compressed PNG)
Eyedropper tool - will either crash Photoshop to desktop, or take 5-15 seconds to load
Attempting to navigate any menu - will either crash Photoshop to desktop, or take 5-15 seconds to load
Attempts I've taken to resolve this matter, which have failed:
Uninstalled all fonts that I have added since the last update (this was a pain in the ***, thank you Windows explorer for being glitchy)
Uninstall application and reinstall application
Use 32-bit edition
Changing process priority to Above Normal
Confirm process affinity to all available CPU cores
Change configuration of Photoshop performance options
61% of memory is available to Photoshop to use (8969 MB)
History states: 20; Cache levels: 6; Cache tile size: 1024K
Scratch disks: active on production SSD, ~10GB space available
Dedicated graphics processor is selected (2x nVidia cards in SLI)

Illustrator CS6 mac performance issues
Hi there,
Ever since I've been using Illustrator CS6 on my Macbook Pro Retina, I have noticed the simple, but anoying performance issues.
The scrolling is so laggy, it gets irritating to move arround the project.
Is there any problem with the software? Compatibility issue perhaps? or am I doing something wrong?
Any help will be apreciated.
Thanks,
Gonçalo EspinhaMuch the same....

Welcome to the forum.
First thing that I would do would be to look at this Adobe KB Article to see if it helps.
Next, I would try the tips in this ARTICLE.
If that does not help, a Repair Install would definitely be in order.
Good luck,

I own CS4, upgraded to CS5, then joined CS6, CC... and now I installed CC14. Which will be the best way to delete or uninstall the programs I don't need keeping only CC14 without running into issues? I have an Alienware Area 51 PC running Windows 7.

There is none. Whatever you do to get rid of the older versions will inevitably do damage to shared components and other stuff of the new versions as well. That's just how it is with this approach... Uninstall the older versions, run the cleaner tool then reinstall CC 2014.

Layer Pallet issues with CS5 files in CS6
Opening Illustrator CS5 files in CS6 causes the visibilty icons, layer names, and layer thumbnails to disappear from the layers pallet. Objects are still there as are the layers and sub layers but I am unable to identify them in the layers pallet (see screen shot of CS6 panel and CS5 layeers panel). Have tried changing Panel Options. Have also tried changing the file names which it lets me do but disappear as soon as I leave the pallet. Also have tried pasting into a new document with "paste remember layers" but they arive in the new document the same way. The only thing that seems to work is pasting one layer at a time into a new document, and naming it at that time. This also provides the layer thumbnail. This is not a small issue as I have thousands of CS5 files which I will need to work with.
I am on a iMAC, running OS X 10.6.8Try turning off the "Do not print" for this layer

CS5 to CS6 Preset issues for Mac.
I had CS5 and downloaded CS6 and now I need to get my presets into CS6 and I followed directions to export and import and migrate as well even drag and drop and only one pattern comes up from the 22mb folder file I had in CS5 that we exported? Any reasons why this would happen to to fix the issue as well??
Moving this discussion to the Photoshop General Discussion forum. Auruora68 based off your inquiry I believe you are referring to Photoshop CS6 is this correct?

What is the speed/performance comparison between Soundbooth CS5 and Audition CS6?
Obviously, I don't need to be convinced about the difference. However, in demonstrating and working with Audition I didn't take a note of these speed differences. Does anyone have this information for business justification reasons?
I am looking for the speed of a sound file (*.wav, approximately 1-5minutes in length) rendering in Soundbooth CS5 and Audition CS6 as well as a comparison of doing 10 files (approximately 1-5 minutes in length each) in Soundbooth and in Audition CS6 (using batch processing) to *.mp3 with basic processes applied. Basic processes that I am checking are Noise Reduction, Trimming front and end silences, Normalization, and rendering to *.mp3 (from *.wav). If anyone can do this for me, that would be awesome!!travis_smith_ wrote:
Hello _durin_, yes all those are great arguments that I've already included; however, some people like to use accurate measures/times/processes...they want numbers.
So, do you (or anyone else) happen to know the render engine speed of 1 file in Soundbooth v. 1 file in Audition?
What Durin hasn't perhaps made quite clear is that you'd have to do this on just one machine to come up with any comparisons at all - and if that machine isn't identical to yours, then it's going to be meaningless anyway; some of the processes (like NR) will vary considerably between two different machines, even running the same software. There is no way on earth that this would be an accurate comparison, and I don't think it would convince anybody who actually understood what was at issue. This is the politest way of saying that it's not going to happen... and if Durin, as Audition's Product Owner, isn't prepared to commit himself, then nobody's going to.... BUT:
Now I am moving towards the argumentation that it should replace everyone's Soundbooth, which is why I need the justification. I would run the tests myself over the current set of files, but with the license gone, I cannot.
Your real justification isn't going to be based on anything like dodgy process measurements at all, but this: Soundbooth is discontinued - there's very little, if any, support for it now, and there will be no updates to cope with OS changes, etc. Audition, on the other hand, is a long-term, well-supported software product that's under active development, and this is clearly intended to continue. Also there are business package deals to be done (like active subscriptions, etc) that simply weren't available to Soundbooth users, which companies can use far more flexibly. I think you'll find that arguements like this will cut far more mustard than any odious comparisons of 'speed' will. -
Photoshop CS5, Performance Issues
Just got a brand new PC at work, and i am experiencing some very strange lagging issues in photoshop. I'll go more indepth in a minute. My system setup is as follows:
Windows 7, 64
Intel i7-2600, Sandy Bridge
16g of ram
Quadro 2000, using 2 24in LED Samsung monitors at 1920x1200
Two LITEONIT-LAT128M2S SSD Drives
All memory resident programs arent even installed, like antivirus and whatnot.
I am currently running the 4/26/11 Quadro performance drivers, as these are WHQL and Adobe/Nvidia certified. I have also tried the latest Nvidia drivers and experienced the same issues.
I see the issues with OpenGL on and off, and combination of all settings. I see ZERO performance issues in any other applications i run - Adobe apps are all that I am having issues with atm.
In the 32 and 64bit exe's (doesnt matter which, though the issue seems MUCH worse in the 64bit exe) i will experience consistent lag in the application with or without a file open. The menus and cursor will slow to a crawl for about 5 seconds, and then pick back up again. This happens with and without files open.
I have tried moving my page file between drives, i have tried shutting all windows aero enhancements off, all in combination with turning openGL support on and off. I have also rebooted between each change.
I also experience an IDENTICAL issue when i open up the CS3 exe.
I also experience IDENTICAL issues with Illustrator, only when rendering bitmap effects to any SVG drawing.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? This PC should be an absolute monster with adobe software, however my current work experience is nothing short of frustrating.Noel,
Yes, brand new installation. I cut out all the extra startup processes once i started to see this issue. There is no antivirus running because i disabled it. I have only about 50 essential windows processes running currently, and stripped them out one by one hoping that one of them was the culprit.
There are no newer bios/motherboard updates currently.
There are no processes currently running that are taking up any significant resources.
Any other ideas? -
Adobe Photoshop CS5 upgrade to CS6 issue
Hi there,
I have just upgraded my Photoshop CS5 to Photoshop CS6 but when I enter my serial number for my current version of Photoshop, I get an error message saying my serial number is incorrect. Am I doing something wrong? Appreciate any help at all.Wow, I hadn't realized Adobe was going to keep the upgrade offer from Photoshop CS5 12.x to CS6 13.0 open after Photoshop CC 14.0 was released.
