AIM account in Messages for osx 10.8

AIM account in Messages for osx 10.8 is connecting and disconnecting in Messages for Mac.

Thanks for the suggestion, tried that empty the trash rebooted the system but no change… messages still connects and disconnects continuously every couple of minutes more  or less :-(. What is baffling is that on a MacBook Pro using the same network connections messages as solid as a rock but my new iMac isn't. Tried to reinstall mountain lion using the recovery partition but no success either.

AIM account in Messages for osx 10.8 is continually connecting and disconnecting in Messages for Mac. I have Mountain Lion 10.8.2 installed on a MacBook Pro 15 inch (10.8.2 installed over 10.7.4) with messages connections to AIM always working without a hitch, however, brand-new iMac 27 inch AIM and migrated home folder (using the same network connections) is continually connecting and disconnecting every 30 seconds or so. I have tried to delete the preferences, reinstall Mountain Lion using the recovery partition, erasing the disc and re-migrating but no success either. The only way I can get any use out of this AIM account is to keep the messages references open on the desktop and continually change the server settings  between with and without SSL. All suggestions would be welcome.

  • AIM account on Messages keep going offline

    Hello,
I recently installed Mountain Lion on my iMac (iMac10,1) and added my AIM account to Messages.
When I am using Messages, my AIM account frequently goes offline by itself (and sometimes reconnects again).
I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if there is a fix.
    Thank you,

Ive had this problem as well. I have four accounts two of which are yahoo accounts, 1 gmail, and 1 icloud. I have found that when you go to system preferences and then mail,contacts... and you click on details and retype your password it usually works. If that doesn't work though go to your email providers page and log in there and make sure your proxy settings are correct. Step two solved my issue. Hope this works for ya!

  • HT5395 Send as SMS on Messages for OSX

Is there any way to 'Send as SMS' from messages for Mac as there is on iPhone? I have a number of contacts that messages detects as iMessage but is unable to send. A popup advises that the recipient is not set up for iMessage, but no option is given to send as an SMS, resulting is me having to do it from my phone.

On your iPhone under Settings turn on Send as SMS (when iMessage isn't available).
The following is from the Messages Help file:
To make and receive SMS and MMS messages on your Mac, you need an iPhone with iOS 8 that’s signed into iMessage with the same Apple ID. To send an SMS message, enter a contact or a person’s phone number, enter your text, then press Return. Your SMS and MMS messages appear on your Mac automatically.

  • How can I add a Google account not connected to a GMail account to Messages in OSX Mountain Lion?

With iGoogle going offline soon, and being myself averse to using Google+ for social networking due to what I perceive as a blatant disregard for my privacy, I'm trying to save my few Gchat contacts, as I don't have many other ways to contact these specific people. However, I'm having trouble connecting my Gchat (or Google Talk if you prefer the term) to Messages. It doesn't recognize that my google account is tied to a verizon email address, not a gmail address, and refuses to acknowledge my password as correct (even though I typed it correctly at least five times trying).
I haven't seen anyone else having this problem, and I'd prefer to call customer support about this, but this seems to be the next best option.

    Hi,
iChat and Messages (and for that matter any other Jabber capable App) will not accept non Google Mail Google IDs as Google Talk IDs
When Google launched Google Talk it was only for those IDs issued under @googlemail.com or @gmail.com that were eligible.
Later they allowed other Google IDs to Chat but only from Web Browser Logins.
There was a period when they did seem to expand the non Googlemail IDs into the GoogleTalk fold for external apps to also allow access but this was dropped after a while.

  • Audio Messages in iOS auto expire as expected, but they keep saving automatically on Messages for OSX

    Hi all,
This morning I was playing around with audio messages with a friend on our iPhones. Everything was working fine. We were sending messages just fine, receiving them just fine, and they were auto-expiring as expected.
Then once I turned on my computer, I noticed that every time they sent an audio message it would give me a Messages notification on my desktop telling me they sent an attachment. I didn't think much of it because I figured that it was just Messages staying in sync with our conversation over iOS.
But then they said it started giving them the snapchat-style notifications saying that I was saving their audio messages. Sure enough when I opened Messages, they were all there.
I dug around the options but couldn't find anything relating to the auto-expiring voice messages. How do I turn this on or toggle it so that attachments people send me that are meant to auto-expire don't get saved?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Is this an iOS 8 feature that is waiting for Yosemite ?
If it is It cannot be discussed here and Apple have other places to do that and doing so may break an NDA that you might have in place.

  • Any advantages to using .mac vs. AIM account?

I have both a .mac account and an AIM account. Currently I use my AIM account almost exclusively for iChat, and I was just wondering if there are any advantages to using my .mac over the free AIM.
Also if friends of mine wanted to add my .mac name to their AIM what information would I give them? just [email protected]?

    hi Sup909,
Encryption. Mac to Mac with both having @mac names
    Otherwise, No.

  • OS X Yosemite messages losing connectivity in afternoons for AIM accounts

Not sure why messages is dropping connections to my AIM account buddies in afternoons, but this is a pattern since the Yosemite update.  Application restart doesn't fix it.
Also, I am annoyed that buddies list isn't integral to the Messages window.  That separate window listing the buddies doesn't work well in full screen environs for those in office scenes that rely on the bonjour list to see who is at work, etc.

It's more related to sleep status disconnecting AIM accounts rather than time of day...in my case after lunch is when I lose AIM connectivity.  I still have Bonjour connections.  Need a fix!

  • How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat.

How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat. We had this working using Messages and Facetime (on the new machine) talking to my existing iChat account. One day last week, when Facetime rang, my kids answered on the iPad. Dang! Now it's all fouled up! The new iMac won't see my AIM account name and shows that I'm offline, because the iPad is off. We were able to call using "most recent call" in Facetime, but now I can't go and control that new iMac remotely to help with some email concerns the user is having. I'm trying to not personalize this too much, but it's grandkids talking to Grandma and Mom and Dad trying to solve new machine hiccups. Normally, I could just go in via iChat and control the other machine and troubleshoot, but I can't do it with Facetime only. My buddy list doesn't see  the other computer even though we are connected on Facetime right now. My name is not highlighted for the other computer. What could have gone so wrong?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can't Set Proxy Server For AIM Account

    Hi!
In the Messages application, the AIM account has a Server Settings tab where one can opt to connect using a proxy. However, with Mavericks I have found that anything I enter in that field is instantly wiped out. The console logs a message each time:
11/21/13 3:29:25.055 PM Messages[5215]: [Warning] *** API client requested a modification of key "ProxyHost"  to be "myproxy", this is being ignored, please file a radar
where "myproxy" is anything one enters into the field.
    Any advice?

    Hi,
This issue goes way back in to the history of iChat.
It has never been that good at connecting using Proxies.
It has does slightly better if using the System Settings.
I don't use Proxies and so have never spent any time working though this.
Basically iChat and Messages connecting via a Buddy List is via the AIM servers but is almost Peer-to-Peer in process.
Connections are very linear particularly for Video and Audio chats to the extent that connecting to your router with Ethernet and Wifi is enough to cause issues.
Whilst starting up the app also contacts Apple to test bandwidth (Internet Speed) and support things ready for Video and Audio chats.
It is not just a case of Logging in to AIM.

  • AIM account frequently disconnects from Messages 7.0

So i got the new Macbook Pro Retina Display and i got the free upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion. I filled in all my account details and all that on to my Messages and it works just fine, except for the fact that my AIM account disconnects frequently and for about 10 - 15 minute periods of time. It worked fine on the old iChat on my previous Macbook which was running Snow Leopard. Is anyone else getting this? Any solutions?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I would start in Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts and the AIM account in question
Log out (Untick the "Enable this  Account" box).
Go to the Server Settings tab
    Untick the SSL option.
The AIM SSL servers can drop the connection more often that the regular ones.
Also if the SSL connection is lost messages (or iChat) need manually reconnecting as a SSL reconnection is not automatic like the regular server is.
If that does not work I would delete the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist
I would phrase the way to ge there as
In the Finder use the Go Menu
    Hold down ALT key
    Select the Library that appears
    Open Preferences and find file
    Drag to Trash
    Restart Messages

  • 'Messages' logs out my AIM account every 10 minutes, help ??

Since updating to OS X Mountain Lion, my AIM accounts keep logging out and disconnecting, I tried deleting and re-adding the account but there hasn't been any change,  has anyone else been experiencing this?

    Hi,
I would check the Preferences or Messages and then the Server Settings tab for the AIm Logins you have.
The server should be api.oscar.aol.com and the SSL option is normally On.
There have been issues with the AIM SSL server in the past.
It may pay to try it without SSL and see if there is any difference.
Also Messages will tend to reconnect if the connection gets dropped when not using SSL  (SSL has to be manually reconnected for Security purposes).
Previously the iChat App uses the login.oscar.aol.com servers and when using SSL the software would change the server name by adding a leading s (slogin.oscar.aol.com).
    This was on port 5190.
You have to Log Out to change any of these settings

  • Messages Text Invitation Alert does not seem to work with AIM account

Back in the days of iChat - I had a Text Invitation Alert setup to play a sound and repeat that sound.  This way if I was away from my computer, it would keep making noise until I accepted/declined the IM.
Now I upgraded to Mountain Lion and am using Messages which replaced iChat.  The only account that I have is an AOL Instant Messager (AIM) account.  During the upgrade, it kept my setting of a Text Invitation Alert set to repeat.
A couple of things that I notice - when I closed an iChat conversation, that was the end of the conversation and a message from someone after that point was treated like a new Text Invitation.  With Messages - I actually have to 'delete the conversation' as all of my conversations are in the same application window.
Here is where the problem comes in... having NO active conversations (i.e. nothing is shown on the right side of the Messages window except 'No Conversations') and having the application closed but my status set to Available - it does NOT play the Alert sound, only bounces the dock icon once.
Having NO active conversations but the application running in the background it performs as expected.
With iChat, a text invitation was treated the same way if the application was closed or if it was running in the background.
Since my default is to have the application closed (with my status as Available), I am looking for Messages to provide the same functionality with regards to Alerts.
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    Red

Your pop account won't work with iCloud, it's the alternate me address you get when you create an iCloud account that works with iCloud. Outlook won't work with iCloud either, you need to use Address Book, iCal etc etc.
