AIR-CAP2702I-E-K9 not joining to WLC8500
Hi there,
I'm facing a strange issue as the CAPWAP AP is reporting problems while trying to associate the controller.
These are the steps:
AP with right IOS (ap3g2-rcvk9w8-xx)
AP get the IP from DHCP
AP get the controller IP through DHCP Option 43
AP send CAPWAP request packet:*Mar 1 00:46:02.139: %CAPWAP-3-EVENTLOG: Discovery Request sent to a.b.c.d with discovery type set to 1

AIR-CAP3501I access point not joining the Cisco 2100 Wireless Lan controller.
Hello All,
I am installing a new LAP (AIR-CAP3501I ) through the wireless lan controller (AIR-WLC2112-K9) with software version 7.0. I have an external ADSL modem which will act as the DHCP server for the wireless clients and the LAP.
Please find my network setup as below:
The ISP ADSL modem , WLC and LAP are connected to a unmanaged POE switch. The LAP gets its power through the POE switch. When i connect the LAP and the WLC to the switch along with the ADSL modem, the LAPs are getting the ip address from the ADSL modem, however they are not joining the WLC for further process.
ADSL Modem ip address: 192.168.1.254
Management ip address on the LAP: 192.168.1.1 ( Assigned to port 1, untagged Vlan).
Ap Manager ip address: 192.168.1.1 ( Assigned to the same port i.e port1, Untagged Vlan).
The LAP is getting an IP address from the ADSL modem in the range of the DHCP scope.
I will paste the logs very soon.
Please let me know if i am doing anything wrong oe what will be the issue.
Thanks in advance,
Mohammed AmeenHello All,

The Acess point joins the Controller for 2-3 seconds and then unjoins again. I am not sure what i am doing wrong here. The access points are getting the IPs from the ADSL modem through the switch, then it talks to the WLC, however it does not join the controller for further process.
Note:
The Managemnet interface and the AP manager interface are assigned to the same port 1 with unassigned Vlan as mention above. -
Hi,
I setup a mini wireless LAN network lab with a not for resale 2106 wireless lan controller and a sales air-lap1242ag access point. I do not have a DHCP and DNS in my lab environment. I have configured the WLC with the basic configuration using the CLI wizard, i also configured the WLC as a DHCP server for clients that will be connecting to the APs associated to the controller.
I powered up the AP and connect the ethernet port directly to the controller, the controller issued an IP address to the AP, the AP downloaded a new operating system from the controller but failed to join the controller.
I check both debug message on the controller console and the trap messages on the controller's GUI and it say the AP could not download a configuration from the controller and it is beacuse of invalid license. Below is the trap message:

Unsuccessful Request Processed

Last Error Occurred Reason

Also, I tried to log into the GUI of the AP using the both the username and password ''Cisco'' but I cannot get into the device. I can only get in through the CLI. In the CLI, almost all the commands I enter gives an error the it is disabled. I don't know what to do any more, I want to know if the access point is faulty or i am not doing the right thing.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thank you for the quick response.
The controller is running firmware version:
Software Version 6.0.199.4
Emergency Image Version 6.0.199.4
The AP can ping the Management IP address of the controller successfully via console. I have also entered in the AP the WLC's Management IP address information and it is still the same. Below is the message I'm getting on the console of the AP it self:

I will also like to know if AIR-LAP1242AG is compatible with WLC 2106 controller.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, i really need to resolve this issue in my LAB now so that I don't go to my customer site to fumble.
thanks in advance. -
IMP: Cisco AIR-CAP1602 &1532 not joining 2504 Controller issue
Dear Team, We have Cisco wireless implementation in clients premises. We have 8 indoor AP (AIR-CAP1602E-AK9) and 2 Outdoor AP (AIR-CAP1532I-AK9) . Seven indoor APs are able to join the 2504 controller, but 1 indoor AIR-CAP1602E AP is not joining and signal is RED continuously while as outdoor AP AIR-CAP1532I-AK9 signal goes blinking from green, red to amber continuously and is not downloading LWAPP image from the controller even after hard reset.
The output for both APs shown below-

AIR-CAP3502I-E-K9 does not join preferred controller
I have an AIR-CAP3502I-E-K9 AP that is configured for two WLAN controllers with preferred order. However the AP does not join the primary controller, but uses the secondary one instead. I have a bunch of these AIR-CAP3502I-E-K9s , majority work fine, but three of them not.
I have tried commands according to
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-24917
In the controller's GUI the order is properly configured. I also tried to use 'Clear All Config" option on the controller and configured the AP from the scratch, but this did not help.
Here is what I have

My primary one is 192.168.1.1 and secondary is 192.168.1.2, but the AP joins always the secondary one.
The lines above

Configured Switch 2 Addr 192.168.1.1
seem to be suspicious, I would expect the reverse order, but do not know how the code did it.
The only guess is that in the very beginning the AP joined 192.168.1.2, and this was the controller I configured the AP initially from. The AP seems to maybe somehow remember this.
OS version is
swVer 7.2.111.3
Thanks,
VladYes, this is what I am trying all the time - configure the AP to point to the WLCs I want it to join.
Firstly I did through GUI, did not work.
Secondly I used 'Clear All Config" option on the controller and configured the AP from the scratch through GUI, did not work.
Thirdly I tried through command line on the AP, did not work.

What I think might be the key to the problem is this
Configured Switch 1 Addr 192.168.1.2
Configured Switch 2 Addr 192.168.1.1
This is not changing no matter what I do.
Thanks,

AIR-LAP521G-E-K9 is not joining WLC4402-12
Hi,
Please I need some help with any guide or info regarding my LAP521 access points that are refusing to join the WLC4402-12.
This is my first lightweight access point implementation and I have 3 LAP521's and 1 AIR-CAP3502I-E-K9 access points on my network.
They are meant to pick up ip address from external dhcp server and then join the WLC but only the 3502i joins successfuly while the 521's get dhcp address but do not join the WLC. From the logs, I can see that the WLC is discovered by the 521's and even get a response message from the controller but they are still unable to join as shown in the screenshot below.
My WLC is running software version 7.0.230.0 and the 521's are running an lwapp image version 4.2.61.8.

Please any suggestions or help with resolving this issue will be appreciated.
ThanksThe reason the 521 will not join, is because they require the Cisco Express WLC. They will not join the 4400 WLC. Take a look at this matrix with the code you are running and the AP's that are supported.

I can not join my Apple extreme with the Apple express. I shows a conflict in the network! I've tried everything. How can they join on the same network?
It says that my DHCP has to be changed! How? to what?
It is 802.11g.express. but is set to default by the computer (Macbook Air).
The other is 802.11n. (express)
Extreme is 802.11.g. Is the Main Airport.
It is on ethernet & wep 128 security. -
3702i AP's not Joining WLC - Layer 3 discovery request not received on management VLAN
Hi Guys,
This is a follow up post to this thread: https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12400481/3702i-not-joint-2504
Have been playing around with my AP's and made sure the time is correct on all the devices ( WLC and Switch). I have also moved the AP's to the same Vlan as the management IP of the WLC.
if I move the AP's to the same Vlan as the WLC they join and are happy, as soon as I move them to a different Vlan they cant join and there time goes back to the default plus they do not seem to save the WLC details to flash but still remember the test names I give them.
it appears that option 43 is working fine as I can see it look for the WLC IP and I have done some trouble shooting on the WLC and it looks like it see's the AP but doesn't except it.
please see below for the boot up of the AP and the WLC logs:

any advice please??
thanksIt sounds like you are still working out IP connectivity, but I also noticed your AP is not for US regulatory domain.
Can you confirm that your WLC is ready to accept an AP with country code -E?
Your AP model: AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9
From the WLC CLI
>show country
If you are in US, you should only have -A available. If this AP is intended to be used the US, then you will need to acquire an AP with the correct country code, as -E would not be supported in the US -A regulatory domain and should not be used. Perhaps this is for another location, so you may need to add the applicable regulatory domain support.
This link provides the list of the respective country codes and compatbility/etc.

Hi,
I have two WLC 8500 working in SSO and with nat enable feature configure in management interface.
SSO is working, but i have to configure NAT before SSO becasuse when SSO is up, ip address and nat are greyed out in managemente interface.
Some AP's must join the controller in the private address of the management interface and others AP must join in the public ip address configured in NAT address.
for some reason, there are a lot of AP's that can't join the controller, i have 3 ap's joined in the public ip address and 3 ap's joined in the private ip address
config network ap-discovery nat-only disable is already configured, from the console of one AP that can't not join i see the following:
*Sep 10 12:32:48.115: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: Selected MWAR 'GI12WLC001A'(index 0).

*Sep 10 12:35:48.000: %CAPWAP-5-DTLSREQSEND: DTLS connection request sent peer_ip: 10.35.0.78 peer_port: 5246
the AP is trying both private and public ip address to join the WLC but can't join properly.
From the WLC console:

the AP model are the same, this is not the problem, but for some reason there are AP's that have problems with the NAT configuration, if i disable NAT option, every AP with private ip address config can join the WLC.
I've tried to break SSO, desconfigure NAT, and private ip address AP join the controller without problem.
anybody can give me a clue?
Regards!it seens like DTLS connection can't be stablished between AP and WLC.
The AP sends discovery request
the WLC respond with two discovery responds, the firts one, contains the public ip address of the WLC and the second one contains the private ip address.
once discovery proccess is complete, the AP tries to send DTLS hello packet to the WLC, but this packet never arrives to WLC.
because hello doesn't arrive, the AP sends a close notify alert to the WLC and tries to send the DTLS hello packet to the WLC private address with same result.
the AP get into a loop trying to send DTLS hello packets to both private and public address.
DTLS hello packet never arrive, but close notify alert arrive to WLC.
theres is FW in the middle doing NAT, but i can understand why close notify alert packets error arrives WLC and Hello DTLS packets don't. this packets uses the same protocol UDP and the same port.

any suggestions
/FinnWell you need to take a look at the AP or console. There have been issues with the 3500's and the white light of death. If you can have someone confirm if the APs led is white or not, that will tell you right away if you need to RMA the ap or not. Other than that, you need to console into the AP and post the output when powering up the AP.

Hello community,
I hope you can help me with my problem.
I have a vWLC Firmware version: 7.4.121.0, I have also Aironet 1700Aps
I have successfully configured wlc with service and management interface. In the management network I can ping the vWLC managenemt interface as well the APs in this network. The firewall is also the DHCP Server for the management network. (It is working because APs get an IP address) The problem is the APs are not joining the vWLC. This is my first time I use WLC and APs. So they are completely new and not used before.
Here is the debug output of vWLC:

Sadly I don`t have a debuging cable for the APs. Therefore I have no debuging output of the APs. (It is ordered ;-) )
But I hope the output of the APs is right now not important to solve this problem.
Thank you
//EDIT
On the firewall are no ports blockedOkay I upgraded the vWLC to 8.0.110.0.
I looked in the event log of the vWLC. It was successfully discovered and also the new image version was send to the AP.
Sadly the Ap does not join to the vWLC.

Sadly I don`t understand what this debugging log says :-(
Maybe you can help me again
Thank you
//SOLUTION -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I found something on the internet, but for all people having also this problem here is the solution:
Change the country of your vWLC. Right now I am in China, so I changed it and then it was working flawlessly :-)
Step 1
Disable the 802.11 networks as follows:
Choose Wireless > 802.11a/n > Network.
Unselect the 802.11a Network Status check box.
Click Apply.
Choose Wireless > 802.11a/n > Network.
Unselect the 802.11b/g Network Status check box.
Click Apply.
Step 2
Choose Wireless > Country to open the Country page.
Thank you all for your help :-)

*spamApTask0: Oct 10 09:20:16.526: 58:f3:9c:78:d1:10Hi all, the AP was in Mesh (Bridge) mode and could not connect to the controller
Ok, how to find out that a AP is in bridge mode, without a join (No Access to the AP).
go to monitor > statistics > AP Join
you will see the AP here that tries to connect (clear the list before)
if the ethernet MAC Address is the same as the Base radio MAC, than the AP is in bridge mode.
normally ( in local mode) the Ethernet MAC Address reflects the APname
To allow the AP to join, add in the Authorization list the APName mac Address!
See: http://supertekboy.com/2014/01/13/cisco-lightweight-access-point-will-not-join-to-a-wireless-lan-controller/
The case is solved now.

Alternative keyboard layouts + Speakable Items
Speakable Items is a great idea I'd like to use since I frequently use a tablet to sketch art and am out of reach of the keyboard. For some commands, Speakable Items works great (e.g. "Switch to Safari"), but many commands don't. This puzzled me, esp
