Air Help topic navigation links broken

I've logged this as a bug, but was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem.
When generating the "Air Help and Browser Based Help" output format (and uploading the browser files to the web server and installing the AirHelp application), the navigation links that appear above the help window and below the search bar/navigation buttons are broken. The example below shows the uni-pane template, but the problem occurs with all templates.
Upon clicking the first or second topic link (in the red circled area), this displays "The page cannot be found" and the navigation links themselves disappear.
I noticed that the problem only exists when the topics in the Project Manager are organized into subfolders. If all the topics in the Project Manager reside in the top-level folder, the links navigate properly. Also, the links are only clickable when in online mode, not in local mode. I've been unable to either disable the navigation links entirely, or make them un-clickable in online mode.
I'm running RH9, Windows 7 (64-bit).
Any help would be appreciated.

I am not sure what the problem is at this stage but I don't think it is a bug as no one else has hit the problem.
Please open one of the sample projects and generate some AIR help from that to establish the links work there. That rules out a bug and tells us it is something in your project. What it is will still need to be determined but we will know we are looking in the right place.
Probably the first thing I would do is apply another skin and not make any changes to the default.
Post back how you get on. I'm going offline soon but will pick up your reply tomorrow if no one else has waded in.

  • Adobe AIR help; breadcrum navigation doesn't work in multibyte characters?

    Hi there,
I created Adobe application with RoboHelp 9 (using FrameMaker files,
which are written in Japanese and English) to find that breadcrum navigation on the top doesn't work.
Is this a feature that breadcrum navigation doesn't support multibyte characters? Or is this any workaround?
Many thanks for your kind support in advance,

See my reply to your other post. You can also test this in the new project and raise it with Adobe Support at the same time as the other problem.

  • All the OTN navigation links broken

I can't get anywhere from the OTN homepage anymore. None of the lists appear if I hover over Products or Documentation. If I click on those items they just take me to an empty page.
Whereas if I have a specific link (e.g. http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/pdf/forms6idiagnostics.pdf) the page can be found.
So the content is presumably there, it's just inaccessible at the moment. Nice one.
    Cheers, APC

Andrew...perhaps you caught the page during a replication phase, because everything seems to be working just fine now.
If you're still having problems, please send your browser version/configuration....

  • Linked PDFs do not open in AIR help window

I am creating a help system in RoboHelp 10 and outputting it as AIR help. The help topics include links to several PDF documents, which are stored locally (they are not on a server or Web site). When I click any of the links in the AIR help window, however, the window goes blank; the content from the PDF does not appear. No other windows open, either. How can I get the content from the linked PDFs to appear in the AIR help window? Thanks!

Have you tried including the PDFs in Baggage Files?
I'm not sure that is necessary without testing but it's worth a try. Post back to let us know whether or not that works.

  • Create link to help topic from Flash file

We have started using Flash to develop our online learning
modules. So far they have been stand alone modules accessed from an
internal web site, published as .EXEs. Our latest Flash module is
related to a system for which we have an HTML help file. We'd like
to embed the Flash module in the help file b/c we want a link in
the Flash module to open a specific help topic.
I can get individual .SWFs into the help file but these Flash
modules are more complex, using many .SWFs for navigation, the TOC,
the frame, and for each interaction. In other words, the main .SWF
(or .EXE) calls many other .SWFs as the user navigates through the
    module.
If I can't get the Flash module into the help file, and I can
only link to it as an external file, can a link from within a .SWF
in the Flash module open a specific help topic in the .CHM?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks for your help,

    Answer
no it doesn't. getURL() causes no security issues unless you
try to open the html locally and (try to) access something on the
    internet.
unless your "flash site" is your local computer there is no
security issue. if your local computer is an internet server, you
just need to set the security settings for your local file and give
it permission to access the internet zone.

  • Creating a direct link to the help topics?

Ok I have been building my first RoboHelp project with the help of some good tutorials online.
I have a number of different help topics and they have sub topics.
How do I direct a user when they click on a direct link to a subtopic.  What is the HTML code to use to get to a subtopic?
If I use the HTML file name of the topic, the help TOC on the left doesn't show up.
    Does this make sense?

  • Error linking to help topic

I am getting an error in the robohelp generated javascript file that issues an access denied message when a program tries to link directly to a topic in the RH HTML system. The error repeats a second time and then displays the topic. Has anyone seen this behavior.

    Hi all
Personally I belive Peter is spot on. Windows 7 is extremely persnickety about allowing any sort of access to things located in the Program Files folder.
Will the help be deployed on everyone's PCs that way? If so, I'm thinking that WebHelp may not be your desired output type given this situation.

  • Contextual help topic link/recognition

Is adobe Captivate contextual help topic link/recognition compatible?

At present we use PeopleSoft system and the eLearning application it is linked to is UPK (both Oracle based).  I have recommended to change UPK to Adobe captivate.  But first need this issue addressed:
Each page in the PeopleSoft application includes a Help icon that, when clicked, opens a new browser window displaying help topics related to that page.
Universal Linking enables the hosted PeopleBooks system to search through one or more PeopleSoft product lines and return context sensitive help. This functionality makes it possible to retrieve help from PeopleTools and one or more applications(this is UPK), all using the same link you configure in the web profile of your application.
So basically I need to know if Captivate is capable of this linkage.  All my files (UPK) are presently sitting on IIS webserver 7 within a web template.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Navigation Link failes : _layouts/15/AreaNavigationSettings.aspx fails to load on subsites

PROBLEM: The navigation link in Site Settings will only works on the root site. Any sub site I get the notorious "Sorry, something went wrong An unexpected error has occurred."
When I look at the logs I see the following that relate to the correlation ID below.  Any ideas on how to get Navigation working?
This was caused when I migrated sites from one farm to another and only if I created a new site collection and replaced the root site with one from the other farm.
    What I've Tried:
I've done this on other site collections where I moved the sites but made them subsites and did not overwrite the root site and the navigation feature works fine.  Even sites where I
didn't do a migration it worked great.
I've tried the following found at this link which seems to be the most popular solution but I've had no luck.

    Hi Craig,
I understand you encountered the issue with navigation link in the sites after migrated to another one.
The issue might be caused by
Navigation links that were added by site owners as relative links in the old site continued to work, and links that were added and managed automatically by SharePoint continued to work as well.
Please try the script in the article below and see if it fix the link:

  • How do I create navigation links within a page?

    Hi,
I would like to create navigation links to go directly to a certain topic on the page, similar to the one I found on Robohelp's help (screenshot).
    Thank you for your help,

    Hello etvaaa,
    Welcome to Robohelp Forums.
You can use the Hyperlink Feature and link a bookmark, please follow these instructions :
    1) Place your cursor at the Destination Point and insert a Bookmark :
    2) Give a name to that Bookmark :
    3) Select that Text on which the user will click (Right Click -> Insert Hyperlink)
    4) Select that Bookmark which you inserted a while ago
    Hope it helps !!

  • AIR Help - Why is Print Sequence Disabled?

    Hi all,
I have experimented with a copy of a client's Help system in
both RH7 w/packager and the RH8 trial, generating output to the AIR
Help format. After generating & installing the .air package,
and viewing the new .exe help file, I notice the following: Click
the dropdown next to the Print icon and three options are listed
(Print this page, Print sequence, Print entire Help). No matter
what is selected below, Print sequence is always unavailable
(grayed out). This is the case when I generate with either version.
Am I missing something in the settings?
    Thanks,
    Katie
    Katie Carver
    Senior Technical Writer
    Docs-to-You, LLC

    Hi all
In addition to what my colleague and fellow Adobe Community
Expert Peter suggested, I read this thread and am inferring that
perhaps Katie doesn't fully understand how Browse Sequences work.
Particularly in WebHelp. So I see this could impact the operation
    of things.
Please allow me to try and explain.
A Browse Sequence is merely a pre-defined path that traverses
two or more topics so that they are presented in a logical order.
You said that you created a Browse Sequence using the Auto-create
feature so I'm assuming you now have several different sequences.
This is because until you change the number of Book levels, you end
up with several sequences. If you wanted a single sequence that
spanned all of the TOC, you would need to auto-create the sequence
and specify 0 as the book levels.
That bit will hopefully help you sort the sequence creation.
Now let's address the sequence *USE*.
When you have created WebHelp output by clicking File >
Generate Primary Layout (assuming the primary is WebHelp) you see
four or five intermediate dialogs that allow you to specify
different parameters that govern how that layout is created.
Typically on the second dialog is an option for Browse Sequences.
So once you have created a sequence, you have to remember to enable
it in WebHelp in order to see it work. At this point, I'm thinking
you *MAY* have done this but it isn't clear. After all, if you have
never used them before, you may not have realized you needed to do
this step. You also may not realize how the sequence appears in
    WebHelp.
So once you have defined the sequence and told WebHelp to
present it, you generate and the sequence is presented as two icons
in the "Navigation mini-toolbar". The little toolbar that sits
majestically perched at the top of the TOC, Index, Search, Glossary
and just below the main toolbar. So here's why you may think it's
not working in WebHelp. The behavior of the Previous and Next icons
will change depending on which topic you are viewing. If the topic
presented in the Topic pane is part of a sequence, one or both of
the buttons will be enabled. If the topic is the *FIRST* topic of a
sequence, the Next button will be enabled but Previous will not be.
This is because you cannot go further backward. The topic begins
the sequence. Assuming there are more than two topics in the
sequence, you click the Next button and the next topic in the
sequence is presented in the topic pane. This should then cause the
Previous button to enable and work when you click it. Once the last
topic in a sequence is presented, the Next button disables as you
    cannot go further.
The bottom line here is that if you are displaying a topic
that is not part of a browse sequence, bot buttons will be disabled
    and dead to the user.
Now shift focus to AIR Help. It seems reasonable to me that
if the AIR Help is presenting a topic that isn't part of the Browse
Sequence, just as WebHelp disables both the Previous and Next
buttons in the mini toolbar, AIR Help may disable the Print
    Sequence feature.
Now that it's hopefully clear how this all works, please
ensure you are displaying a topic that is included in a Browse
Sequence and see if you now have an available option. I'm not
looking at AIR Help at the moment as I have no access to RoboHelp
    8. So you might be seeing a bug or you might find it now works as
designed. Only you can say for certain.
Keep in mind that when you create AIR Help, I believe it has
to be installed after created in order to see it work. So just to
be on the safe side, after you ensure things are configured as
outlined, try generating to a different output file name, then
    install and test that.
    Whew... Rick

  • RoboHelp air help application does not show pdf files

    Hello everyone,
I hope this is the right place to post my problem.
I am developing an air help application and I want to embedd some pdf files. I tried two different ways yet:
    1. A direct link to the pdf file (which is located in the project folder)
    2. An iframe
In the topic preview both ways are working fine. But when I generate the application, it just shows a black page, where the pdf content should be.
    Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to the forum.
It is the right place to ask but it will not be the answer you want.
Only links to HTML and Microsoft Office files are supported. Although it will not help you short term, the more people who report a bug or request a feature, the more likely it is to be actioned. Please follow this link.

  • Help topics are not displaying when using Windows 8/IE 10

I have a WebHelp system created in RoboHelp 7. When opening that Help from our application using Windows 8 with Internet Explorer 10 and allowing blocked content, the Help topics do not display in the right pane when clicking a topic from the Contents in the left pane. Below are the steps:
    1. Open the Help system from the Help menu within the application.
    2. The Allow Blocked Content displays and I allow it.
    3. The Help opens and if I click a topic from the TOC in the left pane, the topic doesn't display in the right pane.
A workaround we found was to widen the left pane and the topic then displays. Also, if you don't allow blocked content, this issue doesn't happen. However, I need to allow blocked content in order for PDFs within the Help to open properly and also because the Search doesn't display without allowing blocked content.
We also tested this with a Help system that was created using Robohelp 9 and have the same issue. I'm wondering if RoboHelp 10 would solve this problem.
Does anyone know if IE 10 requires Help systems to be created in RoboHelp 10 to work properly, at least when allowing blocked content?

It seems to be time for the old divide and conquer approach.
Zip up the project so you have a copy that cannot accidentally be opened and worked on. That gives you a copy that you can safely revert to later if needed. Save the zip file somewhere safe.
Then create another copy of the project so that you have two copies that can be worked on.
Open Copy 1 and delete half the topics. Ignore any broken links reported. Generate the help from that copy.
Open Copy 2 and delete the other half of the topics. Generate the help from that copy.
It should be the case that one copy is now OK and one still has the problem.
Trash the good copy and then create a second copy of the copy with the problem.
Repeat the process until you have located whatever is causing the problem.
The process takes less time than you might think.

  • Customising Adobe AIR Help

    RH 8 HTML.
Is it possible to customise the output of an Air help file?
I want to do a few things:
Set the column width of the TOC so it is wider
    Change color schemes if possible
Make my title page appear when first opened - but not be a topic (in the same way the RH8 help file does it)
Remove the 'pop up' that comes when I hover over a topic, the title pops out above itself, it just looks strange and I dont like it.
Set an indent on the text displayed in topics so it is further from the column that seperates the TOC and topics. I tried to do this with a master page but it didn't work with AIR.
Also, is there anywhere to get more AIR skins??
    Thanks.
