Aironet 350 WAP + IP Scheme Change

Hello,
I have an Aironet 350 Wireless Access Point running VxWorks 11.07.  We had it working fine on our 172.23.0.X IP address schema where the Ethernet and AP Radio shared the same IP address.
We have recently moved to a 10.121.40.X IP address schema and so I made very simple changes to the network configuration of the WAP (IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS).  However, now I can't get any devices to connect to the WAP even though I know they did before with the old IP address schema.  I've even tried the WAP on DHCP and the result is the same.
What can I do to get this WAP working again?  Is it something to do with the 10.121.40.X range?
Thanks.

The clients are trying to connect but in Windows don't get to the 'Acquiring network address' stage.
After a failed connection attempt the VxWorks 'Associations' page lists the client device but the 'State' is 'UnAuth'.
The WAP Event Log shows a lot of the following type of entries but nothing else:
00:07:57 (Info): Deauthentication from [10.121.41.19]0012f0dc17ca, reason "Unspecified Error"

  • Securing Aironet 350 Access Point

    Hello -
My small network is operating correctly using the Aironet 350 Access Point and multiple clients. However, the setup is not secure.
How is it possible to secure access to our AP?
Specifically: I would like to establish a WEP key, as some devices (i.e. pocket-pc's) do not support more advanced security schemes.
    Thanks,

Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) authentication, also called 802.1x authentication, provides dynamic WEP keys to wireless users. Dynamic WEP keys are more secure than static, or unchanging, WEP keys.
For more details on configuring both types of WEP refer the following document,

  • AIRONET 350 - Duplicating configuration to a replacement

I have a problem with one of our AP it's a aironet 350, what is the easiest way to copy it's configuration to a replacement device of the same type.
I have just took over from out wireless guy who is off long term sick and I'm in at the deepend.
    Regards
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
I have actually never tried this myself, but here is a good doc that discusses this process. Maybe somebody else will weigh in as well :)
    Working with Configuration Files
This section describes how to create, load, and maintain configuration files. Configuration files contain commands entered to customize the function of the Cisco IOS software. To better benefit from these instructions, your access point contains a minimal default running configuration for interacting with the system software.
You can copy (download) configuration files from a TFTP, FTP, or RCP server to the running configuration of the access point for various reasons:
To restore a backed-up configuration file.
To use the configuration file for another access point. For example, you might add another access point to your network and want it to have a configuration similar to the original access point. By copying the file to the new access point, you can change the relevant parts rather than recreating the whole file.
To load the same configuration commands on all the access points in your network so that all the access points have similar configurations.
You can copy (upload) configuration files from the access point to a file server by using TFTP, FTP, or RCP. You might perform this task to back up a current configuration file to a server before changing its contents so that you can later restore the original configuration file from the server.
    From this AP350 doc;

  • Aironet 350 client adapters

I have some Aironet 350 PCI cards fitted to some Compaq P4 desktop computers running WinXP Pro. These computers are part of a Domain and log in automatically using a few registry changes. This is the problem.
When the machines log in the Wireless adapters have not finished their authentication and have not received a new IP address, but the machine still logs in. I need to make the machine wait for the Aironet card to finish it's authentication or start the authentication process earlier. Has anyone got any ideas.
    Many thanks for your time.
    Mike

I have tested this with APs config'd with Network-EAP and Open-Require EAP. In this scenario Max Assoc does not prevent attempted associations by non-LEAP-enabled clients, which are locally authenticated (associated but unauthenticated) and claim one of the allocated associations. This can effectively block legitimate client associations/authentications. I think that local MAC filtering is the only override, and/or disabling Open authentication (forcing LEAP). Using the ACS, you can create or map External DB Users to ACS Groups and limit their access to certain NAS (AP) entries.

  • Aironet 350 AP not sending signals to laptops !

    Hi all,
This is the 1st time I use this service...I hope someone / Cisco can help me.
    Background
We have Airnonet 350 AP system + PCI adapter + PCMCIA. We live in a 2 story house. The Server (Win XP) is downstairs connected to the Livebox ( France Telecom )for internet conncetion. All PC downstairs connect to this livebox and work very well. But, upstairs the portable PC receive weak signals, so internet is slow or often none at all. We installed the Aironet 350 AP upstair in a central location to receive signals from the Server which is in turn equipped with a PCI adapter to send to the 350 AP on 1st floor. It works beautifuly and efficiently for 4 years already..
    NOW
Last week I changed the Server PC to a newer one, also running on Win XP. I transfered the PCI adapter to it, and installed the software for adapter from Cisco website (Win-Client-802.11a-b-Ins-Wizard-v1701). The Associations between the Server / PCI adpter, Airnonet 350 AP, and 2 laptops on 1st floor are excellent. But, the Laptops on 1st floor just could not have access to internet ! I have tried many different manipulations.. but no success.
Has anyone come across this pbs ? Do we need to do something to the 350 AP ? if yes, what is it ? Is there an upgarade of s/w for the AP 350 ? Etc ...
I'd loved to hear from you to help me to solve my pbs, otherwise my 2 daughters just do not have internet connections !
    Thank you in advance.
    Joseph
    email : [email protected]

    Tks John for your suggestion.
However, the 2 laptops were working well already while they were connected wirelessly to the old server, except the speed was not so fast.
Seeing the new server giving us connection pbs for upstairs, I have gone backward, and put back the PCI adapter to my old server which sends signals to the Cisco AP upstairs. Now, both laptops upstairs are receiving internet and working correctly. To improve the speed up of this old server, I have removed all unnecessary programs etc ...so the speed is better. The girsl are happy.
The only down side is that I have got this brand new server / PC which is not doing what it is bought for ..
Frankly, I am still at a loss why the new server does not work with the Cisco AP !
Do you still have some other ideas ..?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Windows 98 and Aironet 350 PCI Card

I have a complicated question and would really appreciate any input anyone has. I have a network with 12 PC's that are running Windows 98 with Novell Netware. They all have Aironet 350 PCI cards in them. We recently decided to change an older PC out and took out it's Aironet card to install in the new PC which is a Dimension 4400. I install the card and the utilities and drivers and I can get the PC associated to the AP. I then install the Novell client and I can't get authenticated onto the network. I can't even get the Novell login to pop up. I can't even get out onto the internet which I can usually do even if I am not on the network. Neither my network admin nor I were here when these were originally deployed so maybe we are missing a step. Any help would be much appreciated. I would be glad to provide any additional info!
    Thanks
    Jamie

Thanks for the further info John. I would usually say sure and do it. I am only leary because a week ago this card was happily working in another machine. A interesting point to mention is that when I go into the access point all of my machines on the AP having their IP address in a field called IP Addr./Name and the machine I am having an issue with says unassigned. The last time we had this particular issue we had the network on 40 bit WEP encryption and then got a new card for a machine that could only run 128 bit so we changed the encryption and everything has been fine since. Once again thanks for all of your help!

  • Aironet 350 w/ Linksys WAP11

I'm trying to add an Aironet 350 PC card to an existing Linksys WLAN. I've configured the WLAN for WEP-disabled, open access. I've set all the parameters on the 350 to match a working Linksys card. I've disabled MAC control on the Linksys Access Point.
The Aironet Client Utility reports that the card is "not associated". When I bring up statistics, I see lots of PLCP CRC errors.
    Any pointers?

No 2.4Ghz equipment in the house (except possibly the microwave, which is not running). The linksys is using both antennas. I'm not dead certian what 'diversity' means, but it sends/receives on each. Also, when I'm communicating with a LinkSys PC Card, I'm getting 100% signal strength and 100% signal quality, so the problem would not seem to be electronic noise.
The retailer's support staff has suggested that I ensure that the WAP is using the same protocol! (Um... I think that's what WiFi/802.11b means.)
I've tried setting up the Aironet card and the LinkSys card on a different laptop. Same results. When the Linksys card is in, it talks to the WAP, but the Aironet says it is not associated, and shows lots of CRC errors.
Any other ideas, or should I just throw in the towell and send it back?
    Thanks in advance!

  • What is the best methodology to handle database schema changes after an application has been deployed?

    Hi,
VS2013, SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB, EF 6.0, VB, desktop application with an end user database
What is a reliable method to follow when there is a schema change for an end user database used by a deployed application?  In other words, each end user has their own private data, but the database needs to be expanded for additional features, etc.
I list here the steps it seems I must consider.  If I've missed any, please also inform:
    (1) From the first time the application is installed, it should have already moved all downloaded database files to a separate known location, most likely some sub-folder in <user>\App Data.
    (2) When there's a schema change, the new database file(s) must also be moved into the location in item (1) above.
    (3) The application must check to see if the new database file(s) have been loaded, and if not, transfer the data from the old database file(s) to the new database file(s).
    (4) Then the application can operate using the new schema.
This may seem basic, but for those of us who haven't done it, it seems pretty complicated.  Item (3) seems to be the operative issue for database schema changes.  Existing user data needs to be preserved, but using the new schema.  I'd like
to understand the various ways it can be done, if there are specific tools created to handle this process, and which method is considered best practice.
    (1) Should we handle the transfer in a 'one-time use' application method, i.e. do it in application code.
    (2) Should we handle the transfer using some type of 'one-time use' SQL query.  If this is the best way, can you provide some guidance if there are different alternatives for how to perform this in SQL, and where to learn/see examples?
    (3) Some other method?
    Thanks.
    Best Regards,
    Alan

    Hi Uri,
Thank you kindly for your response.  Also thanks to Kalman Toth for showing the right forum for such questions.
To clarify the scenario, I did not mean to imply the end user 'owns' the schema.  I was trying to communicate that in my scenario, an end user will have loaded their own private data into the database file originally delivered with the application.
If the schema needs to be updated for new application features, the end user's data will of course need to be preserved during the application upgrade if that upgrade includes a database schema change.
Although I listed step 3 as transferring the data, I should have made more clear I was trying to express my limited understanding of how this process "might work", since at the present time I am not an expert with this.  I suspected my thinking
is limited and someone would correct me.
This is basically the reason for my post; I am hoping an expert can point me to what I need to learn about to handle database schema changes when application upgrades are deployed.  For example, if an SQL script needs to be created and deployed
then I need to learn how to do that.  What's the best practice, or most reliable/efficient way to make sure the end user's database is changed to the new schema after the upgraded application is deployed?  Correct me if I'm wrong on this,
but updating the end user database will have to be handled totally within the deployment tool or the upgraded application when it first starts up.
If it makes a difference, I'll be deploying application upgrades initially using Click Once from Visual Studio, and eventually I may also use Windows Installer or Wix.
    Again, thanks for your help.
    Best Regards,
    Alan

  • Best Practice for Replicating Schema Changes

    Hi,
We manage several merge replication topologies (each topology has a single publisher/distributor with several pull subscriptions, all servers/subscribers are SQL Server 2008 R2).  When we have a need to perform schema changes in support of pending software
    upgrades we do the following:
    a) Have all subscribers synchronize to ensure there are no unsynchronized changes present in the topology at the time of schema update,
    b) Make full copy-only backup of distribution and publication databases,
    c) Execute snapshot agent,
    d) Execute schema change script(s) on publisher (*) when c and d are reversed this has caused issues with changes to view definitions which has resulted in us having to reinitialize subscriptions,
    e) Have subscribers synchronize again to receive schema updates.
Each topology has it's own quirks in terms of subscriber availability and consequently the best time to perform such updates.
The above process would seem necessary when making schema changes to remove tables, columns and/or views from the database, but when schema changes are focused on adding and/or updating objects, and/or adding/updating data, is the entire process above necessary?
In this instance, if it's possible to remove the step of coordinating the entire topology to synchronize prior to performing these changes I would like to do that.
The process as we currently perform it works without issue, but I'd like to streamline it if and where possible, while maintaining integrity and avoiding potential for non-convergence.
Any assistance or insight you can provide is greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards
    Brad

If you need to make schema changes then you will need to use ALTER syntax at the publisher.  By default the schema change will be propagated to subscribers automatically, publication property
@replicate_ddl must be set to true.  This is covered in
Make Schema Changes on Publication Databases.
This can be done at anytime, without the need to synchronize unsynchronized changes, make a backup, or execute the snapshot agent.
Adding an a new article involves adding the article to the publication, creating a new snapshot, and synchronizing the subscription to apply the schema and data for the newly added article. Reinitialization is not required, but a new snapshot is.
Dropping an article from a publication involves dropping the articles, creating a new snapshot, and synchronizing subscriptions. Special considerations must be made for Merge publications with parameterized filters and compatibility level lower than 90RTM.
    This is covered in
Add Articles to and Drop Articles from Existing Publications.

  • Aironet 350 Wireless Bridge Problem

I have inherited a wireless link between two building that used a pair of Aironet 350 wireless bridges.  I say used because one took a lightning strike and is fried.  I need to see the configuration on the remaining bridge to set up the new bridge but no one knows the user name or password to access the remaining functioning 350.  How do I reset this old buzzard?  I have tried all the instructions I have found on this site and others.  There is no reset button.  I found this out by disassembling another Aironet 350 we had which has also taken a strike.  I cannot set up the new 1300 without knowing the config of what it will be talking to.  I have been able to connect to the 350 with a serial cable and I can see some of the information.  But the only thing I get is the ip address for fe0.  I have attached the file I captured to this post.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks.

If you know the IP of the 350, put a laptop on the same subnet and use a crossover cable to web to its GUI.  VxWorks CLI sucks!
If you can get hold of a pair of 1231 APs, they can be configured to run in bridge mode and use the same antennas as the 350s.  Benefits are IOS and G radios.

  • OVD 11.1.1.5 Schema Change Not Appearing in Adapter

I updated the schema in 11.1.1.5 of OVD. I need custom attributes/object classes available for database adapter mappings. The schema screen shows the attributes and object classes as does the schema.user.xml file. The schema.user.xml file is included in the schemas under Server Settings.
The problem is that when I go to select the object class for the attribute mappings in the database adapter, the new object classes don't appear. I rebooted OVD using opmnctl and the schema changes are still not an option to select in the dropdown menu.
Any suggestions for fixing this would be great.

    Hi Hamm,
The fact that you are saying that "hfm text appears using hfm url" can mean that you have not configured the workspace web server after you configured the HFM. Have you done that?
As another test, have you tried toy connect to HFM via smartview to an existing app?

  • Aironet 350 with pismo antenna?

Hi people. I recently bought a cisco aironet 350 pccard wireless adapter for my pbg3 500. It works, i use os x 10.3.5. The problem is it doesnt reach very far. Last week a friend of mine came with his macbook and he had full signal at places where I could not even connect.
Doing some research I found that removing the fat sticker placed on the part of the card that remains outside the powerbook, there are 2 antennas and a jack for an external one. So I tought I could use the one built-in the display that is meant for airport cards. The problem is they can not be conected directly (the cable doesnt reach and the conectors are different anyway. To make thinks worse, the powerbook cable doesnt even have the conector, just the wire. I tried making a bridge between this cable and the cisco jack (using a 15 cm cable) but doesnt improve the signal, so I think im doing something wrong, or the pismo antenna is no better than whats built into the cisco card. Maybe someone here has some experience on using a non airport card with the airport antenna.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Pepo

Thanks Brent. I have a spare ibook display that I can use for testing the antena. Problem is I dont want to burn the pccard amplifier. I dont know how the antena works, or if there is already an amplifier in the display, so if I connect the output of the card to the airport antena, I may burn the card. If I touch the antena lead it has power, as well as the pc card, so I dont think they can be connected toghether.
Also another doubt I have is actually how the antenna works. If I check the jack with a tester, I can see that the shield and the conductor of the wire arent isolated from each other, so then how do you wire them to the card when they are bridged already?
Sorry, hope I explain myself a bit at least, my english is not good enough I think for this kind of things.
    Thanks again.
