Airport and Airplay on PC

The airplay Icon on my PC goes on and off... I have an airport express. Is there something to do ?
When I try to make an update on my PC, it says that the windows version is to old... but it uses to work... and it works great with my Ipod.
I have an error message that says -42110 ?

Hi gilbertpa,
If the AirPlay icon is only appearing intermittantly, you may find the following article useful:

This alert is related to iTunes Store movie rentals and authorization issues.
Make sure you are using the most recent version of iTunes and QuickTime. They both can be downloaded free of charge.
If your iTunes is up to date, remove the SC Info folder.

  • Airport and Airplay Cutting Out

I have an Airport Extreme as the main router for my network and an Airport Express in another room used to play iTunes from my MacBook or iPhone5 through my home stereo using AirPlay
Playback from both the MacBook and iPhone5 cut out all the time. This happens even when they are only a few inches from the Express.  I've tried shutting down all apps, turning off blue-tooth, turning off the MacBook and anthing else that I thought might be competing with the signal.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Should I plug in another Airport Express next to the ATV2, and will that strengthen the wireless signal from the first Express
If you add an AirPort in the family room, it will not "extend" or strengthen the wireless signal from the Express in the middle of the house, so no real reason to consider this if you are trying to use wireless only.
Rather than locate the current Express mid way between the Time Capsule and family room (which would normally be a good location), you might experiment a bit at 2/3 or 3/4 the distance to see if that helps.
Apple's "extend" setup works like the hub and spokes of a wheel. Your Time Capsule is the "hub" and each Express resides at the end of a "spoke". You can have multiple Express devices on the network, but each one communicates directly to the "hub", not to another Express at the end of another "spoke".
The best solution....in terms of performance....would be to run an Ethernet cable from the Time Capsule to the family room and configure another AirPort at that location to "Create a wireless network".
If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, a pair of Ethernet power line adapters might be able to send an encoded Ethernet signal over the existing AC power lines in your home. But power line products are a bit unpredictable, so you would want to make sure that you understand the store's return policy if you want to try the adapters.

  • AirPort Express and AirPlay mayhem

Ok so I have a 500GB Time Capsule (about three years old) broadcasting a wireless network and connected by ethernet to a DLINK DSL2740B router in my study and an AirPort Express in my room extending the wireless network wirelessly and for AirPlay. I have been using a 1st-generation AirPort Express for years without an issue until the new AE came out and there was a firmware update to mine. Shortly after, it began cutting out intermittently and AirPlay stutters every 20 seconds or so.
Even though I thought it extremely suspicious that after a firmware update and new generation AirPort Express release my old AE starts cutting out, I went and bought a 2nd-generation AirPort Express (hey, they look prettier). It worked like a charm for the first two days, but now it is cutting out and stuttering while trying to use AirPlay from both my MacBook Pro and my iPhone 4S. Not only that, but when I look in AirPort Utility on my Mac, it says that the connection to the new AE is either "poor" or "fair". Seeing as I am sitting about three steps away from the thing, I don't think that's right. Internet speed seems to be largely unaffected.
This is driving me crazy, any help would be appreciated.

A couple of more questions for clarification. Does your Actiontec router also provide Wi-Fi? Is your AirPort Express, which is connected by Ethernet to the Actiontec, configured as a roaming network or to join the Actiontec's wireless network?

  • Can I use ATV(2) and Airplay from iPad without a network?

I'm going on holiday to a rented villa which has a TV (which I assume has an HDMI port) but there is no internet connection, therefore no router or local WiFi network.  I'd like to be able to play content from my iPad and/or iPhone via Airplay on the TV using my AppleTV (2) (which I could easily take with me).
However, experimenting at home, it seems that ATV won't do anything at all unless connected to a WiFi network.  Airplay works fine even if the network is not connected to the internet; even purchased content seems to be ok (but DRM free - I haven't bought any non-DRM-free music).  However, without a separate WiFi router, ATV doesn't seem to do anything.  In particular, my iPad doesn't "see" it, and can't connect to it, unless both are connected to an existing network.
I don't understand why this should be so.  Should it not be possible to connect two WiFi devices (eg iPad and ATV) to each other without needing a router?
I can get it to work if I use my MBP to set up a WiFi network by using Internet Sharing to share my (non-existent) ethernet connection using Airport.  Airplay then works between my iPad and ATV.  However, this is a rather clumsy arrangement - I'd been hoping I wouldn't need to take my MBP with me for that week.
So, am I doing anything wrong, or is this (Airplay from iPad to ATV without a router) just something ATV can't do?  And is it "can't do" (ie ATV has the wrong chipset or something) or "won't do" (ie Apple have set it up so it won't work like this)?  And if it's "won't do", any chance Apple will provide this functionality in the future?

After submitting this, I found an answer to a similar question last December (Can I create an ad-hoc (WiFi) network between my iPhone and Apple TV?); basically saying that you need the router; but I'll leave this as a question (a) to help others find it, because I looked before I submitted and didn't find a relevant discussion and (b) just in case someone else has a better idea......

You could take the airport and setup a wifi network without Internet. The atv2 can connect without Internet access to a wifi network setup with a router. Be patient when it connects, it tries to establish an Internet connection and it takes a while to find there isn't one!! Eventually it offers to connect without Internet. Once connected you can stream to it as usual. One word of caution - don't disable home sharing, if you do and re-activate it the atv2 seems to need an Internet connection to verify your account.
I did precisely this recently when I had to wait for a couple of weeks for Internet to be connected at my new house.
But, you need the router - unlike iPhone, iPad etc the atv2 will not connect to an ad hoc network.

  • Conflict between Bonjour service and Airplay!!

Airplay seems to dissappear, seemingly at random, on my Denon 2312ci AVR connected to my LAN through Netgear WNDR3800.  I also have an iPhone and an iPad.
However, I have found a pattern and a possible sorce of the problem.
If the AVR is initialized on the LAN after Bonjour has started up on my Windows 7 PC, then everything works as it is supposed to.  The AVR initialization can be done by switching to or from DHCP on the AVR.  It doesn't matter.  Airplay is available in iTunes, and on my iOS devices.
However, if Bonjour is started after the AVR is on the LAN, like if I reboot my PC, then Airplay disappears from all 3 (iTunes and my 2 iOS devices)!!  The AVR is on the LAN, can be pinged, can be controlled via the browser on the PC, can stream internet radio and from my media server on the LAN.  If I stop the Bonjour service on the PC, Airplay reappears on my iOS devices (but not iTunes, which depends on Bonjour).
Uninstalling iTunes and Bonjour and reinstalling from the latest download from Apple does not help.  As soon as Bonjour loads on my PC,and the AVR is already on the LAN from before, Airplay on the AVR gets disabled!!  If I stop Bonjour manually or shutdown my PC, Airplay shows up on my iPhone and iPad.
My solution now: I have changed Bonjour to not load up automatically. Now, Airplay is available on my iOS devices (except iTunes).  When I need to run iTunes, I start Bonjour manually, run iTunes.  Airplay is disabled during this time.  When I'm done with iTunes, I close iTunes and shut down Bonjour.  Airplay is now available on my iOS devices.
It is a kludge, but it is a workaround.
I googled Netgear and Airplay and someone suggested setting the RIP direction to "Both" and RIP version to "RIP_1" but that has not fixed the problem.
Anyway, I am at my wits end.  Bonjour (and Airplay) is happy if the AVR is initialized on the LAN while Bonjour is running.  How do I make Bonjour cooperate with my 2312ci when the AVR is already initialized on the LAN and Bonjour starts up?
    Aloke

I have recently had the Airplay disappearing problem with a Pioneer SCLX56 AV Amp. I tried disabling the Bojour Print Services on my Windows 8 machine and magically the airplay icon for the amp reappears.
The funny thing is that I have 3 airplay destinations, an airport express, apple tv and the amp and only the amp disappears when I turn on Bonjour on the computer, so it suggests to me that Apple's implimentation of Airplay on their devices is different to the implimentation used by 3rd party manufacturers.
Thanks to you all for starting this thread and following the problem through - it's saved a lot of diagnosis.

  • Airport express, airplay, speakers, kill core audio

    hi,
i have regular computer speakers plugged into my airport express router, and play music via airplay from my iphone and macbook pro.
i usually select airplay on my macbook pro by holding alt and clicking the volume icon in the status bar, and selecting my airport express.
sometimes this doesn't work, and my selection won't stick. and instead of restarting and interrupting my wifi each time, i found from a number of google search results and forum discussions to use these codes in terminal:
    sudo killall coreaudiod
    and
    sudo kill `ps -ax | grep 'coreaudiod' | grep 'sbin' |awk '{print $1}'`
to restart the audio driver. they seemed to work, but now a day later, i can connect to the airport, but no audio is coming out of the speakers... neither from my laptop nor iphone.
i have tried rebooting the computer, and unplugging the router for 30s... and tested the speakers to be working when hard wired. still no luck on the airport express airplay, which did work before i tried the codes.
    any thoughts?
    thanks,

    Same here?
We have two of the new Mac Minis, one Airport Express and 4 iPhones in the house - and we can use Airplay from both Mac´s to the Airport Express hooked up to the stereo - works fine!
And we can se the Airplaybutton on the iPhones and the name of the Airport Express - but we don´t get any sound when we push the button and it turns blue?
We have rebooted alle the devices, made restores, reconnected - but no sound?

  • Problems with Airport Express & Airplay

Hi Guys, I'm having a lot of problems using my Airport Express as a bridge, and Airplay.
I have a wireless network set up with various repeaters through our (large) house, and wanted to set the Airport Express to extend the wireless range into the kitchen, and to work as an Airplay port for the stereo which is next door.
The main network is a cable modem into a wireless router, which is then repeated with 85M PLC Adapters throughout the house.
Had alot of trouble setting up the express unit - have re-set it to default settings numerous times. Managed to get it set up to repeat the signal and act as an airplay once, but the performance was very poor - i.e. sound dropping out, losing connection. It also wouldn't connect using iphone or ipod, again even when it had 4 bars wi fi reception.
I then tried setting it up purely to join the existing network, not to repeat it. and act as an airplay port; and it connected, said it worked, but then I couldn't play any music through it, and it went back to flashing orange.
The Airport Express is in the same room where I'm typing this and has 5 bars of wi-fi signal strength.
I've tried the few things I know - anyone got any bright ideas?
    Makro

    Network
Plug the AE next to the PLC and connect it to the Ethernet port of the PLC.  Configure the AE to operate in bridge mode.  If your PLC doesn't offer an Ethernet port, use one like the Netgear XAVN2001.  If it's already taken, you will need a 4 port switch.  You will also need a long 3.5mm audio cable if the amp is not in the proximity of the PLC, available from Amazon for under $5.  Finally, create a separate wireless network on the AE.
    Client
Connect the client to the AE's wireless network, not your existing network.  The client in this case is an iPxd or other computer with iTunes or Airplay/similar PC.
The above basic configuration works flawlessly in my experience.  If the Client is to distant from the AE's wireless, you can, as a second step, connect it to your existing network, but be forewarned that in this scenario dropouts abound and the AE frequently disappears from view.

  • Is there a way to create a shared net conn. between Airport and Ethenet?

Is there a way to create a shared internet connection between one airport computer and another via ethernet?
I have one computer (lets call this computer 'A') connected to the net via Airport which connects to a router, which is directly connected to my ADSL line.
However, my other computer (computer 'B') is not located within range of this wireless router.
Is there a way for me to send my internet connection via computer A to computer B, via an Ethernet cable or Airport connection or otherwise?
    ADSL---Wireless Router---(Airport)---Computer A---(Ethernet)---Computer B

Is there a way for me to send my internet connection via computer A to computer B, via an Ethernet cable or Airport connection or otherwise?
Yes, it's called Internet Sharing, and here's how to set it up...
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wireless to Wired):
    Enable Software Firewall (Computer A)
System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
o Click Stop to start the software firewall
    Setup the Network
ADSL Modem > (Ethernet cable) > (Ethernet port) Wireless Internet Router > (wireless) > (AirPort Card) Computer A (Ethernet port) > (Ethernet cable) > (Ethernet port) Computer B
    Setup Port Order (Computer A)
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
o Verify that "AirPort" and "Built-In Ethernet" are enabled.
o Verify that "AirPort" is at the top of the list, followed by "Built-In Ethernet."
    o Click "Apply Now."
Configure the Internet Connection (Computer A)
    System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort > TCP/IP
    o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
o Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Enable Internet Sharing (Computer A)
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet
o Share your connection from: AirPort
o To computers using: Built-In Ethernet (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
    o Click Start

Since then I have blinking yellow light on the AirPort and AirPort utility keeps promting for an edit. Suggests canging from NAT to "Bridge mode". Obviuosly U have some internet or this post would not go anywhere, my knowledge base is not enought to feel comfortable with changing the settings. Correctly editing can be tricky, so how do I make necessary changes?

How do I clean up my new FIOS connection?
The FIOS router needs to be in Bridge Mode to prevent the Double NAT error from occurring when two routers are both fighting with each other for control of the network.
Unfortunately, the likely problem from the FIOS side is that FIOS support will either tell you that their router cannot be configured to operate in Bridge Mode, or if it can, they will not tell you how to do it.
But, it could not hurt to check with FIOS to see if anything might have changed recently in this regard, so your first call would be to FIOS support.
If you cannot change the FIOS router to Bridge Mode, the alternate plan would be to change the AirPort Extreme to Bridge Mode. If you are using the Guest Network feature on the AirPort Extreme at this time, that feature will not work correctly when the AirPort is set up in Bridge Mode.

  • Airport and internet sharing turns off by itself

Hi everyone, I have an imac that I purchased earlier this year, and I use internet sharing to get internet for my ipod touch. Until a few months ago, this worked fine but now airport and internet sharing turn off every time I restart the computer and I have to turn both back on every time. Is anyone else experiencing this problem or know hot to fix it?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Download and install the v10.5.8 combo update available here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
One of the "fixes" includes: - compatibility and reliability issues when joining AirPort networks.
After the installation, repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Late 2005 - Airport and Bluetooth - won't work together

    Hi everybody!
    I have a problem with my Powermac G5 (late2005).
I have the Airport Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR card installed.
WLAN and Bluetooth work both if operated separately.
But when Airport is activated and running and I turn on Bluetooth (and connect for example my Magic Mouse) Airport breaks down. - I loose my connection and can't see any other wireless networks.
Switching to another Airport channel din't help.
Does anybody have an idea what to do?
    Thanks a lot!
    Chris

    I just started trying BT.
I allready had a look at the cabling and read about it, that it doesnt matter how the calbes are connected to the airport card.
I don't think I can put anything between the antennas.
The late2005 has the build-in antenna (for Airport and BT)...
But I will have a look if I can place anything between an I will change the cabling...
    Thanks so far!

I have an older Airport Express, would it help to install it? would it work best if it was installed in the same room? should it be installed half way in between? Get another Extreme? The Mac Book Pro on the middle floor can see 11 networks in the neighbourhood if that might be causing a problem or would if I installed the Express. Thank for your consideration.

Thanks for your time ... I appologize for the font and colour, I compossed the question in pages and failed to notice the font colour as grey ... there are a variety of computers of various ages so I think it is using a setting that allows both 5G and 2.4 ... the connection to the Airport is thru a cable modem and cable does run throuhout the house ... maybe those hard wires would be a place to look at ... do you think that putting the 'Express' on the second floor might help ... thanks again ...
