Airport express aitune 8. Streamming music lag or cuts off
It was working fine about 2 years ago, then 2h before my last party, I tried ot get my powerbook G4(updated) to connect to my AX (updated) this is plug into the stereo (same wires fot the last 2-3years(work fine)). when I connect to the AX with Itune 8. or ITune 7 the music lags or cutts off for 5-10 secondes, then plays for 2-3 secondes and cuts or lags again.
So I had an other AX (updated) that i was not using tried it with that and same issue. i even turned my Firewall off, and same issue.
I have update the powerbook G4 and my AX.
Cant found any info on the web.
can you please help me ?

It sounds (sorry, no pun intended) like the bandwidth required to stream is insufficient when the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) was configured to join an existing wireless network. Where is the AX located in relation to the other wireless router? Same room, different room/different floor?

How do you setup an Airport Express to only stream music???
+I have a Time Capsule setup as my base for the internet access, followed by an airport express for wireless usb devices and for my stereo. I have a second airport express to which I want to setup for streaming music only. When I leave my home and go to friends etc i which to stream music via this second airport express.+
When I setup this device I get "problem connecting to the internet" I have marked that I do not which to connect to the Internet and the following message comes "make sure your ethernet cable is connected" blah blah blah. All I need is a portable music streaming "Airport Express" device, no connecting to another network, no internet access ect. Please can someone help?????? Am I just chancing my tail???
Thanks in advance. So you want to set the AirPort Express (AX) up at a location with no wireless network and no Ethernet network?
Just configure the AX to create a wireless network and ignore the messages about not being connected to the internet... because you aren't. Have your computer join the wireless network created by the AX. Start iTunes and stream music. -
Itunes is throwing a -15000 error code on my Windows vista. Ipad and Ipod work great for streaming to remote speakers, trying to use the computer and it throws the error code.
Any thoughts? I've rebooted the laptop, modem, and AE, even plugged in the laptop recommended by other users, still nothing.the following is for W7 but might work for you:
Fix for error -15000 Remote speakers on iTunes / Windows 7 -
If i have a home full of Apple TV's and Airport Express' can i airplay music in every room at the same time?
Or just one device(room) at a time?
It seems there is a lot of home theater systems where they all hook up to one "control" and then disperse to the different locations per instructions..
Is this possible with all apple products? From iTunes using Multiple Speakers (you can control with the Remote app on iPhone/iPad too), but not from AppleTV itself.

is it possible to use a single air port express both for streaming music to an audio system AND as a wireless base station
Yes you can - if it is your only router or it is after another Apple router - if you have a non-Apple router then it would have to be hard wired to create its' own wireless network.

Just got a new Airport Express to replace an old one that dropped off all the time. The new one works with various Apple and Android devices but will not connect to Wen 8 computer. The computer sees the network but can't connect.
Hello lucky3480;
I don't know what else to do. I'm thinking of possibly returning the unit and purchasing a wireless internet card to install in the tower. Any help you can provide would be great. Even suggesting a good wireless card at this point
Well it looks like you're not having any luck at all with this AX set up but please don't give on it just yet, it's a good choice for extending your Network. Your on the right path, just going backwards and in the wrong direction. You'll learn a lot about stuff this way but may lead to other issues.
Before I continue, let me know if you have returned the AX or still need help. Here's a link to Apple's PDF about [Designing AirPort Networks|http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Designing_AirPort_Networks10.5-Windows.pdf] Click on it to open in Safari but then save it to your desktop. Now open it from your desktop and start reading Chapter 3, page 42.

It seems to work fine with all of the music files but in trying to watch a video i purchased the audio will only play through the macbook. Any help is appreciatedHello ehende2. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Sorry, but you won't be able to do this as this is a limitation of iTunes/AirTunes.

Airport Express wireless audio streaming keeps skipping
Hi all
I'm new to the forums, so hope you're going to be able to help me!
We have 2 airport express's in our apartment. One downstairs and one upstairs. Our main router is downstairs. Our living area is upstairs.
We have all of our music loaded onto our iPad 2 and we stream it to the upstairs airport express (which is usually connected no less than 10ft away). The iPad is connected via Wifi to the airport express upstairs.
The upstairs airport express connects via cable to our surround sound amplifier system.
Whilst playing music, it constantly cuts out, sometimes for many seconds at a time, making music impossible to listen to.
We also have the latest apple tv, and we've tried streaming the music from the iPad to that, but it does the same thing again. The apple tv is also connected to the amplifier.
I hope I've explained the situation well enough - any information you can provide would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
ScottSure, no problem.
You are going to take Signal & Noise measurements, and then, calculate the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). Not to worry, it sounds more difficult than actually doing it. Note: When taking these measurements, you will only want the AEBS to be broadcasting a wireless network as it is this network that we want to measure at the location of the AX. So, you just need to leave the AX disconnected from power and connect your Mac to the AEBS's wireless network while located near the AX. You, of course, are free (and encouraged) to take measurements at other point, like near the AEBS, a location between the AEBS and AX, and other areas upstairs where you can plug the AX into to see the differences.
SNR (in dB) = Signal (in dBm) - Noise (in dBm)
You can easily find the Signal and Noise values using System Profiler on your Mac laptop.
ref: Click on the Apple icon on the menu bar > About This Mac > More Info... > Contents > Network > AirPort > Interfaces > en1 > Current Network Information > Find your wireless network > Signal / Noise
While your still in the System Profiler, note the value for Transmit Rate.
These values should be negative numbers. For example, mine currently read: -67 dBm / -95 dBm, with a transmit rate of 27 (Mbps). Plugging in these numbers yield: SNR = -67 - (-95) = 28. My Mac Mini is about four rooms away from my AEBS with about five walls between them. As you can see, the signal is still quite useable ... but the bandwidth is minimal, especially for streaming.
SNR Guideline
40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
Please post back your results. -
AIrport Express / Spotify / Airfoil streaming problems
Hello world! Hoping you can help....
I have a Mac Book Pro and two hifi systems connected to my wireless network via two separate Air Port Express units.
I downloaded Airfoil to allow me to stream music to these Airport devices from Spotify.
Unfortunately the music constantly drops out, sometimes for minutes at a time. I can see the music is still playing on the Spotify App and the blue bar on the airfoil app is moving to show music is streaming through that too (before you ask I've checked volume and ensured Spotify is the chosen output!).
Occasionally one audio system will play music whilst the other is silent, but usually both airport express units will fail at the same time.
I live in a large block of flats, and I have always assumed that the problem was due to the number of wireless networks in the building... but then that wouldn't explain how the music is still playing on the app.
A friend has suggested a Airport Extreme base station might help matters, but another friend has said that wouldn't really help.
If anyone can help me with this problem it would be hugely appreciated. It's really frustrating!!!
P.I have this same problem. The new Express was super-easy to set up - I didn't even have to do anything - but it does introduce gaps when I am streaming from services like Mog. My old Experss doesn't do that.
Would love to know what the solution is - otherwise, I'm taking this back to the Apple Store. -
Airport Express doesn't play music after iOS7 / Maverick Upgrade
I have speakers connected through Airport Express so that I can stream music wirelessly through my Macbook / iPhone / iPad.
After upgrade to iOS7 / Maverick, the Airplay does not work. Through all the devices, airplay connects with a really short sound of music initially and then goes blank where all the devices still show Airplay is connected.
Did anyone else face this problem or have a suggested solution?
Thanks for help, much appreciated.
Cheers!I had the same problem, iPod-app crashes, iPod-app didn't play any music in my car (MINI with USB-Audio interface).
I tried restoring with iOS4 and restored from the recent backup. Same problem.
My last try was to restore the iPhone with iOS4 without restoring a backup (= fresh iPhone 3G with iOS 4.0). Afterwards i've installed some apps and put some music on it. I've tried it in my car: no iPod crashes, works like it should, no problems so far...
The only thing I have to try is Audiobooks. With iPhone OS 3.x I had the problem that sometimes the Audiobooks wont resume the position and played from beginning, hope the fresh install also solves this problem as well.
I'm an iPhone user since the beginning, I've started with the original iPhone with iPhone OS 1.1. During all the OS releases and all device upgrades/replaces I've allways migrated my content, so I suggest that there are some settings from older OS versions that screw up the system. One complete reset is okay for me. It's a bit of work to do (backing up data in each app), but it's worth it.

Airport Express Network just for Music (Airplay)
Hello all,
Please can someone help me out? I had this working before the latest firmware update but can't get it working again.
I have six airport expresses that I have bought for the sole purpose of streaming music around my house. I can't get the network running again and run into problems with IP address and DNS servers.
I run iTunes on a Windows 7 machine which connects directly the internet with my router. I want to create a second wireless network using a Airport Express as a base unit which will be for the purpose of streaming music round the house. The Aiport Express base unit is attached to my computer with a ethernet cable.
The problem is, that when I set up the second network using ip address 10.0.0.1 etc it needs to get a DNS server from somewhere. I think that this is the only thing holding me back but am not sure about this.
Can anyone offer any advise? Or am i best just to use my existing wireless network to stream music around my house. I would rather have the second network....
Cheers,
Mark.If you only plan on using this second wireless network for streaming, then DNS would not be required as your theoretically will not need to access the Internet on this secondary network.
You can configure an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) for streaming WITHOUT an Internet connection as follows:
The AX would not get a Public IP address, but it would have a Private IP address of 10.0.1.1 ... and it would be providing wireless clients connected to it with Private IP addresses in the 10.0.1.2 - 10.0.1.200 range.
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name: <enter a desired Network Name or SSID>
Radio Mode: <leave the default or select a desired radio mode>
Channel: Automatic
Wireless Security: <select the desired wireless security type>
Internet > Internet Connection
Connect Using: Ethernet
Connection Sharing: Distribute a range of IP addresses
Internet > TCP/IP
Configure IPv4: Manually
IP Address: 10.0.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router Address: 10.0.1.1
DNS Server(s): <leave blank>
Domain Name: <leave blank>
Internet > DHCP
DHCP Beginning Address: <leave default or change to a desired starting address>
DHCP Ending Address: <leave default or change to a desired ending address>
Music
Enable AirTunes (checked>
iTunes Speaker Name: <leave default or enter a desired speaker name>
Advanced > Logging & Statistics
Allow SNMP (unchecked)
Your AX will still report at least three errors: 1) Configuration of WAN, 2) SNMP over WAN, and 3) Double NAT. These can all be safely ignored to stop the AX's status light from flashing amber in this configuration.
Now the issue is how do you set up the other five AXs? If your home has an Ethernet backbone, then you could configure all of the base stations into a roaming network. If you must go wireless, then you would need to configure them into an extended network. -
Airport Express, can't stream from my macbook but it works from other devic
I connected airport express to my hifi.
Want to stream my music wireless to the stereo.
It works fine with my iphone and ipad but it doesn't with my macbook.
I see the station after clicking the symbol in itunes but after a short while of searching it stopps without connection.
What do I need to do. Some setup on my macbook? Also, the new AirPort Utility can't see the Airport Express either, and the option for multiple speakers has vanished from the bottom right corner in iTunes.

Airport Express, iTunes and streaming Apple Lossless format
I'm currently streaming my music wirelessly from iTunes to the Airport Express. Most of my music is in MP3/AAC format but I'm going to do through the tedious process of ripping it into Lossless format
What I want to know though is when iTunes streams it to the Airport Express does it re-encode it on the fly or does it stream the Lossless format? The reason I ask is that I have a monitoring tool that monitors my upload speed from my laptop over the wireless connection - when I stream a lossless file it's showing an upload rate of approx 150 kb/s, when I stream an mp3 it shows an upload rate of approx 140 kb/s - very similar. The mp3 is encoded at 192kbps and the lossless file is ~1000kbps.
I was expecting a huge difference in the strain on the wireless network but it doesn't seem to show any difference. Strange?? Comments/explanations please!
Dell Inspiron 700m Windows XPOne of my friends did a similar thing and found out
afterwards that his media streamer couldn't cope with
the Windows Media lossless format and would keep
dropping out. Naturally he only discovered this
after ripping his entire collection - whoops!
It is possible with iTunes to convert an entire collection from Lossless to ACC (or mp3 for example).
I recently did this, as my ripped collection on my desktop is in Lossless format, whilst I wanted it in mp3 format on my laptop as I needed to save disk space and the speakers on the laptop aren't much cop anyhow.
Change your iTunes importing preferences to mp3.
Select all the songs and convert selection to mp3.
Your music library will then consist of all the tracks in both lossless and mp3 format.
I then deleted the lossless format version. -
Using apple express to wirelessly stream music other than from iTunes
Not sure if this is a no brainer, but let's say I want to listen to Sirius radio online, but want to stream it to my airport express hooked up to speakers in my bedroom. I don't know how. The only way I can stream music to my airport express is if i'm listening to something in iTunes. Can anybody help me?
HI HV:
There is a 3rd party application for the mac that will let you stream music from other applications (Called Airfoil) which can be found at: http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/
There is no Windows application that I'm aware of.
I hope this helps! -
Airport Express used to receive music from a Windows box?
Can an Airport Express be connected to speakers and receive music files wirelessly from a Windows computer with iTunes on it?
Thanks.in theory yes... i have an ibook, mac mini and xp box... of course the ibook and mac mini see and play music effortlessly through speakers plugged in to the airport express... the confounded windows box sees the speakers but when i select them from the drop down menu in iTunes, it attempts to connect but comes back with base station not compatible with this version of iTunes... i really think it is a windows "problem" but APPLE pitches this product as windows compatible and was "sold" on the we will support it pitch from apple store but have received no satisfaction to that end as of yet... if i have to i am going to bring the xp box in to the apple genius and let them have a go.. i started an informal survey re: this issue in an earlier post to see if ANYONE has successfully made this work on windows box... oddly enough or should i say not odd at all NO positive reponses!
