Airport Express in hotels wireless only connection

I am in a hotel without Ethernet cable available, only wifi. I can connect one device per room. I want to connect my PC with Windows 7, my iPhone and my iPad without having to pay for three Internet access fees using airport express 1st gen to create a private network. i saw an article that shows how to do it using a Mac. How should I configure my PC for that?
I connected my PC to the wifi of the hotel, connected the airport express to the PC via Ethernet and could not see the airport express as a base.
Any comment is appreciated.

The article that you saw regarding using a Mac likely mentioned the Mac's ability to "Share" a wireless Internet connection over the Ethernet port on the Mac.
I cannot say whether a PC has this same type of capability, but something like this would be a requirement to do what you ask about. It might be worth a post in a Windows 7 support forum to see if this type of feature is supported.
We do not have many PC guys here on this support community, but there is a possibility that one might see your post and respond.....so check back over the next few days to look for any new responses.

  • Airport express as hotel wireless?

I am staying in a hotel. I have my AP express. Can I plug the ethernet into it and use it as a wireless? I don't want to have to sit at the desk to be online.

Short answer is yes. It is nice to set up another profile so you don't have to reconfigure when you are home.

The ZyXEL P-2601HN-F1, as you know, is a combination DSL modem & 802.11n wireless router (or gateway device).
For your goal you will want to take a look at this Apple Support article for details on how to configure an AX for iTunes.
If you are still having difficulties with the AX joining the ZyXEL's wireless network, you can try the following:
    Temporarily disable wireless encryption.
If you are hidding the SSID, disable that feature.
Change the Mode Select setting to: 802.11g Only
Change the Channel Selection from "Auto" to a set channel, like 1, 6, or 11

You can configure the AirPort Expess to "Join a wireless network" and enable the Ethernet port so that Ethernet devices will be able to connect.
In order to print from the iOS devices, you will need to have an application like Printopia installed on your Mac. The Mac must be active when you want to print.
More details here: Printopia - AirPrint to Any Printer - Print from iPad - Print from iPhone ...
There is a free trial available for Printopia, so make sure that it will work before you buy the AirPort Express.

  • Trying to connect my wired PC to the wireless airport express via the wireless router.

Trying to connect my wired PC to the wireless airport express via the wireless router.  TP-link wired/wireless router.  Ultimate goal is to send music from iTunes on PC to wireless router, then to airport, then to reciever.  The amber light is blinking.  Thanks in advance for the help!

If I'm understanding right your need and your computer has wired access to your network/router, all you have to do is give your AX wireless or wired access to your network too.
Wired should be easier.  Just use a network cable to connect to the router.  Power up the AX and look for it on AirPort Utility, do so without changing any of your computer settings.  If it's visible, then on iTunes your AX should be visible on the AirPlay icon at the bottom-right corner.
If you want to connect your AX to your router wirelessly I would suggest to reset your AX settings by pressing and holding for a few secs the reset button next to all the ports.  Once it is reset, using your computer try to look for the wireless network it'll be creating, it should be something like Apple Network 4341eb.  Join that network and, using the AirPort Utility, configure your AX as a network client.  Go to Wireless > Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network.
Select your router wireless network from the drop-down menu, select the appropriate security and type in your password.  Click update.
It'll restart and automatically join your network.  Have your computer join back your router network and, again, in iTunes bottom right you should be able to see the AX speakers.
Let me know if this worked.

  • Airport Express in hotels?

It used to be that my airport express had no problems connecting to hotel ethernet systems. 90% of the time, it connected and let me set up a local network. For the past 4 months, 0% of the time it has allowed that (maybe 8 different hotels). Has something happened or evolved in the ethernet at hotel worlds to block devices like the Airport Express?

Hotels, especially the major players, have become a lot smarter about routers connecting to their networks....as have colleges.
It used to be that all you had to do was configure the Express to provide a wireless network, configure it in Bridge Mode, open your browser to agree to the hotel terms, and connect as many wireless devices as you wanted.
The hotel router would supply as many IP addresses as you needed for your devices.
A significant number of hotels are now allowing only one device to connect. So, if your AirPort Express is configured in Bridge Mode, as I suspect, you can connect one device but will run into difficulty if you try to connect more than one.
Does this sound like something that you are running into?
If not, we need some specifics about what is happening when you say that your connection is not allowed.

  • Using Older Airport Express as an wireless/ethernet bridge

    Hi there,
I noticed that people are using their Airport Express (n) products to create a bridge to wireless networks via the ethernet port on the Express.
Is this possible for older non-N Airport Expresses?
I read online that one could set up a WDS network, but I am having -no- luck doing that. Each time I try, I am prompted to enter other nodes on the WDS network, but there's a chicken and egg problem since the first node I am trying to set up keeps requiring other nodes before applying the changes to the configuration it is very frustrating.
I have an Airport Extreme (b/g) and two airport expresses (b/g) and would very very much like to connect an ethernet-run skype phone to one of the expresses. I currently use one as an AirTunes node, and the other (the one I want to use for the skype ophone) as a wireless printer node. Is it possible to use the latter as an ethernet bridge? Can I do that without setting up a WDS network? If I have to have a WDS network, what are the step by step instructions I should follow to do that for all the hardware listed above?
This seems a lot harder than it should be.

It is only possible with the older Express if you also have an Apple main router and setup all the devices in a WDS arrangement. If you are having difficulty setting up the WDS on your network, reference pages 42-44 in the Designing AirPort Networks Guide for a step by step procedure of this. Or, perhaps you might want to use one of the excellent posts by Tesserax for this as well. See this post.

  • Can't See Airport Express on my Wireless N/work

I have a D-Link DSL G604t router, and have spent hours trying to get it to "see" AE - no joy. I have added the MAC Address to the enabled access list but still nothing - everytime I scan for it, it cannot be found. My Compaq l/top connects no problem to the network, and I cannot find any answers in the manual. Only trying to send itunes to my hifi - don't need to share connections or printers.

    Hi:
I had a similar problem with a DLink DI-624 wireless router and AirPort Express afew months ago. Here is what you can do.
As an intermediate step, which is undocumented but I found necessary, connect your Airport Express to the wireless router via an Ethernet cable. After the wired connection, your router will definitely see AirPort Express. Then you can go through the normal network registration process. Once this is complete, you can then power off Airport Express and disconnect it from the router and then place it where you originally intended. Once the solid green light comes on (30-60 seconds), you should be able to access AirPort Express the way it was intended, in a wireless manner.
Again, this worked for me after hours of unsuccessful struggling with the installation process as described in the Apple documentation. I hope this helps.

  • Can I use The Airport Express as a router only. Need your help

    Hi there,
I need to get some help from anyone for a good wireless router for a MacBook Pro. I want to know if anyone had a Airport Express as a router only of some help in this matter.
Hope to get your feedback. Thanks
    From Samantha Kellar

Can you explain a bit more?
The Apple Express is a router. The new Apple Express has a LAN port so you can have a device on a wired connection.
Are you talking about removing the modem and only having the Airport Express?

  • I want to use the Airport express to have wireless music through a home amp and speakers.

My problem is that I have a wireless router (from Telstra - Australia) on one end of the living room and then the stereo amp at the other. It is my understanding that the only way to connect everything is to have the wireless router plugged into the airport express and then the amp connected to the airport express my the rca cable. Is there another way as I do not want a rca cable running the length of my living room.
What i am trying to say is can the wireless router (from Telstra - Australia) talk to the airport therefore meaning I can have the airport sitting behind the stereo out of sight with no massive cables in my living room?
    Help please..

Yes, simply have the Express "join" your existing wireless network in client mode.

  • Airport Express questions on wireless print serving

I have a wireless network setup using a linksys router and thinking about using an Airport Express as a wireless print server in another room. I currently have a Canon MP500, 2 wired PCs connected to the router and 2 wireless laptops one Windows and an iBook. Would the Airport Express connect to my existing wireless network to act as a wireless print server for my network?
    Thank you
PCs running Windows XP Pro and iBook is running OS X Tiger

Hi, does anyone know how to change the port setting on Windows XP Pro. I recently purchased an Airport extreme and the network is working great, however when I tried to set up the printer the documentation left some key peices of information out.
I had followed the step for installing a printer, but when I got to the point about specifing the adapter type, the documentation in the manual that came with the Airport skipped over that part. I guessed at the adapter and unfortunatly (and obviously after reading the instructions here http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1008.html) I chose the wrong adapter. Now I want to go back and fix it but I can't figure out how. When I tried to run the add printer wizard again and the port setting wizard it said the port (IP_10.0.1.1) was alread in use and kicked me out of the wizard.
How do I change the settings on the port to the correct settings?
    Thanks

  • How to get Airport Express to authenticate the PPPoE connection so that more than one computer can get online

    Hello,
I have to use a PPPoe Connection with my ISP and have some troubles setting up the Airport Express. I can only use the Airport in Bridge Mode and DHPC and authenticate the PPPoE on the mac individually. With this solution, no second computer can be set up to use internet at the same time.
I want the Airport Expres to authenticate and pass on "free internet" so that I can connect as many devices as I wish in a normal manner (without PPPoE). However, as soon as I put all the relevant information into the Airport Express, no Internet is coming through anymore. I can connect the computers to the Airport, but there is no interet and the Airport Utility will tell me the same in its settings.
What can I do? A support member in the apple store told me there is no way to authenticate with the Airport Express but could not tell me what the Airport Express' PPPoE setting was there for in the first place. My ISP told me many customers use Airport Express Routers and that there should not be any problem.
    I am stuck:(
Thanks for your help in advance

The AirPort Express can support PPPoE regardless of what the Apple Store employee told you.
To configure the Express to do so you will need to use the AirPort Utility:
AirPort Utility > Select the Express > Edit
Internet tab > Connect Using: PPPoE
Enter the appropriate PPPoE information that your ISP has provided you in the fields on this tab.
Click on Update and allow the Express to restart.
The important thing about PPPoE is that only the device that is directly connected to the Internet should be configured of providing the PPPoE credentials, all other devices should be configured for using DHCP. Note: I am assuming that your AirPort Express is the only router in your current network configuration and that it is directly connected to an Internet modem and not another router upstream of it.

  • I cannot get my Airport Express to accept wireless clients.

I cannot get my Airport Express to accept wireless clients. After resetting to factory default and reconfiguring, it works briefly but then stops again.
The Airport Express is on the second floor of my house and is seen by Airport Utility. Using a LAN cable with the Express works no problem.
My network is created by an Airport Extreme (ground floor) and extended by a Time Capsule (first floor)
Have run through all settings repeatedly and as I said I can get it to work briefly by resetting and then reconfiguring, but after a short while again my iOS devices can no longer connect and revert to cellular.

The issue is most likely due to the fact that the AirPort Express may be too far from the AirPort Extreme to properly extend it with enough bandwidth to be useful.
It is important to understand that with Apple 802.11n or 802.11ac base station an extended network works in a wheel-like fashion with the base station to be extended at the hub and each extending base station along one of the spokes. This type of configuration does not allow for daisy chaining the base stations. That is, in your case, both the Time Capsule and AirPort Express are attempting to extend the AirPort Extreme.
Each extending base station must be within a certain signal quality range in order to extend the network properly. Please check out the following AirPort User tip for details.

  • Can u run Airport Express and a wireless modem together?

Can u run Airport Express and a wireless modem together at the same time?
I'm using AE purely for music distribution and have just bought a wireless modem for the internet (not a AE). However I can now only select either the AE network, OR the wireless internet network (it's BT HomeHub). Hence I can either play music or use the internet, but not together!
    Any ideas anyone..??
    Thanx
    David

You should configure your AirPort Express (AX) to join the wireless network provided by the modem. The instructions are in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.
