Airport Express not working with printer on Windows, works fine on Macbook

I have an airport express that is connected to my Brother laser printer. I installed the software and it works and prints fine on my macbook pro.
I tried to also set it up using my Dell running Windows XP SP2, but after using the instructions, it looked like it set up fine and the printer is recognized, but when I try and print, it just gives me an error message that that printer is "busy or unable to print".
Any ideas?

Is there another solution to this problem? I have two PCs running WinXP and can not print with either one of them through Airport Express. Printing works fine with MacBook. I have Bonjour on both PCs and have run the setup wizard. The printer seems to be connecting and then hangs up on "communicating with printer."

  • Airport Express (not n) with ethernet hub and as wireless base

    Will Airport Express do this?
I've got a cable modem. It connects by ethernet to a hub. Airport Express (not n) connects to the hub by ethernet. My laptops (MacBook and HP 69xx WinXP Pro) connect to AX and internet just fine.
In that same hub, I want to connect a D-Link DNS323, which I wish to be made accessible to the wireless network provided by AX. Here's a sort-of diagram:
    cable ethernet
modem ---> hub <--- Airport Express <--- laptops, AppleTV, etc. by wireless

    |
    D-Link
    DNS 323
Can AX (old style, not n version) use its ethernet connector to both communicate with my cable modem and with other wired ethernet devices through my hub?
Thanks for helping. I tried searching for similar posts, but I failed to find an answer.

With only the hub, the NAS, and the express, you can't access both the internet and the NAS wirelessly at the same time. Here's why:
The AirPort Express has only one Ethernet port. That port can either act as a WAN port or a LAN port, but not both at the same time.
You need the Express to be connected to the internet. Unless you have another wireless router (Apple or otherwise), it will have to be connected through its Ethernet port. Therefore, the Ethernet port must act as a WAN port.
The NAS, on the other hand, is part of your network. For it to be connected, the port must act as a LAN port.
This means that the NAS can't be connected to the Express via Ethernet because then the port would need to act both as a LAN port and a WAN port, which it can't do.
This means you'll need an additional wireless router if you want to access both the internet and the NAS at the same time.
If you have another wireless router (it doesn't have to be an AirPort), I can help you configure it to work with your current network so that you can access the NAS.

  • Airport Express not visible to OS X (iOS is fine, though)

I'm having fairly bizarre trouble with my home networking set-up. Specifically, the WLAN provided by an Airport Express base station. The whole set-up has been working flawlessly for some years, and on the network side, nothing has been altered recently (or anytime since the initial set-up, actually). However, the WLAN has become almost unusable by the OS X machines in the household. And *only* by these.
The situation is *very* strange insofar as from time to time, the two OS X machines in the household (one MB Pro, one MB Pro Retina) simply stop being able to see the base station, and the network provided by it. If that happens (and it has been happening more and more often recently), the only way to get it back is to power cycle the Airport brick. Once one of the two OS X machines "sees" the WLAN again, the other one is also able to use it. And if the problem occurs, both of them lose connection at the same time. It also might take quite a number of power cycles before the OS X machines "see" the WLAN again. Sometimes a single power cycle does the trick, sometimes it takes 20.
Right. Sounds like a dead, or dying, Airport Extreme brick, you say?
Trouble is, the iOS devices in the household (one iPad, one iPod, one iPhone) are always able to see the WLAN, and use the network. Concurrently. No interruption in service. The network speed is always o.k., and there is no glitch in communication. Even when the OS X machines are out of it.
However, there *is* something going on with the Airport Extreme, otherwise the two totally unrelated OS X machines, with no shared user accounts, different users, different data, different build date by about 1 year (2011 and 2012), different machine type (MB Pro, MB Pro Retina), would not both lose their connections at the same time once "it" (whatever it is) happens to the Airport. This has also persisted over the last few OS X releases, and just gotten more and more frequent.
    I've tried the following:
Deleting all mention of the network from the OS X machines (passwords in the keychain, network config, etc). No effect.
Factory reset of the Airport Extreme brick. No effect. The OS X machines have exactly the same trouble "seeing" the reset brick with its default "Apple eaXXXX" network as they had with the configured network. It also takes a random number of power cycles before I can use the utility on an OS X machine to even configure the network. The iOS devices immediately "see" the reset brick, of course. With its right name. And all that. Just like they had zero trouble seeing the configured brick.
I'm completely out of ideas what could be causing this. Any suggestions from you guys? I'm game for running any diagnostics you might suggest - I'm actually a computer scientist, so I'm not averse to tinkering. Quite the contrary. But I cannot imagine any plausible technical scenario that causes the OS X machines (and only them) to lose the connection, so I have no idea what to try next.
BTW: there are unfortunately no Linux or Windows machines in the household, so I could not run experiments with other operating systems.

The Express / Extreme contains logs that can be examined for anything unusual. Unfortunately Apple does not provide details on deciphering them, but I could at least compare yours to what I think is normal. Several logging levels are supported.
If it is as old as you say, you might be able to experiment with earlier firmware versions. For example, I had an older Extreme that was very stable running Firmware 5.5.3 (I think) and upgrading it to a later version caused similar problems. A subsequent firmware version was required for a specific and unusual network client to function, but it resulted in the need to reboot the Extreme anywhere from once a week to twice a day. The only solution was to upgrade to a later model Extreme. That may be related to the phenomenon you are experiencing.
Experimenting with alternate firmware versions will be tedious though. Only a computer scientist would be interested
I doubt a new Extreme will give you the same problems. They have been rock solid serving a variety of clients: Macs, iOS, Windows, all sorts of others, zero problems.

  • Airport Express not visable with Admin utility, but pingable and...

Can be seen when I search for it in the admin utility. The Airport has started dropping constantly, and sometimes itunes doesnt see it but the device remains 100% pingable at all times.
The green light is on, and its connected fine.
Any reason why windows has issues seeing it (and then itunes fails)
    Thanks

I have this exact same problem. It's like something spontaneously just ceased to work inside the AE unit. I don't understand it.
I tried updating the firmware to 6.3 and updated Airport on the G4 to 4.2.1, but nothing has changed. If anything, the problem seems to have gotten worse (sometimes connecting -- > NEVER connecting).
All the forums I have read seem to think this problem has yet to be solved by Apple. They recommend downloading iStumbler or a utility to monitor your networks and keep them "alive" by constantly pinging with a low-level signal. That hasn't worked either.
    Need expert advice, please.

  • Airport Express not working with iTunes

After experiencing cutting out and poor sound quality, I reset my Airport Express to factory settings. It is part of of my network with an Airport Extreme. Everything appears to be correctly configured and I get a message indicating it was successful, but then I get an error message after the restarting of the Airport Express and I can no longer see airport Express listed in the Airport Utility window. Playing iTunes through my stereo speakers does not work. In order to attempt the configuration again, I have to reset the Airport Express to see it in the window again. I get the same result each time. Can you suggest anything in the configuration of my Airport Express which would be causing the problem I have an iMac running OS 10.4 Thanks for your help.

I had a similar problem. My solution was NOT to use the Airport Utility application. Make sure you reset your airport express then do the following:
    1/ Open Preferences
    2/ Choose Network
3/ Highlight Airport and insure it is clicked "ON".
4/ See if it shows up under "Network Name"....if it does click "Apply".
Let me know if u get it working...

  • Since upgrading, both our wireless printers are still visible, but OSX will not connect with them.  Both work via connecting from other sources via the same wireless router (airport).  What do I need to do to get my printing/scanning working again?

Since upgrading, both our wireless printers are still visible, but OSX will not connect with them.  Both work via connecting from other sources via the same wireless router (airport).  What do I need to do to get my printing/scanning working again?

First thing to try is reset Printing System:
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
Next would be reset the router (power off 15 secs then back on). And, 2 minutes later, reset the printers 1 by 1.

  • Will airport express be compatable with windows vista

will airport express be compatable with windows vista

vista will not be compatable because I do not have the capability in vista to download AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows, which is a requirement for the ethernet connection to the Airport Express.  Is that correct?
    No, sorry for the confusion.
You would need 5.6.1 on the PC only if you intend to use that to initially setup and configure the Express.  I understand that you will be using the Mac to setup the Express, correct?
5.6.1 is not needed if all the Vista machine will be doing is connecting using Ethernet or wireless to the network. You don't have to install anything on the Vista machine if all it will be doing is connecting to the Express.

  • AirPlay from iTunes to AirPort Express not working

AirPort is connected with my network and fully working. I also set up AppleTV, which also is fully working and can mirror both my computer and iPhone. In order to play music from iTunes on my Macbook Pro (which is also connected to the network), I clicked the AirPlay button and received the following message: "An unknown error (-15006)occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device 'AirPort Express'". How do I get my iTunes on my MacBook Pro to connect?

I finally resolved this myself. It was somehow "stuck" on a playlist. I could not stream from the main library, but once I tried to stream from that particular playlist - the whole thing started working again. Now I can stream from the main library and other playlists. A very strange quirk. I did rent a movie in iTunes last night for the first time and I had been streaming from that playlist prior to starting the rental movie - and I think somehow it must have gotten "stuck." Hopefully it is a bug no one else experiences because it wasted an hour of my time today.

  • Airport does not communicate with my wireless printer

    Hello all,
I can really use some help here.  We have a Canon wireless printer and an Airport Extreme.  The printer was working wirelessly until recently and I called Canon for tech support.  I was on the phone with Canon for an hour.  We have trouble-shot the printer every which way.  They are now telling me that the airport is not communicating with my wireless printer.  Is there someone that can help me check this?

Earlier G5s had an external T antenna I believe, besides the antenna wire inside...

  • Uploading files to website not working with Safari in Windows 7

    Safari version: 5.1.7
    OS: Windows 7
    Hi,
I am a website owner, and I have a feature on my site where users can upload large (up to 50MB) music files to my server. The feature works in Firefox on OSX & Windows platforms and it also works in Safari on OSX. The uploading feature is not working with Safari for Windows. Do you have any idea why and how to fix this? It can't be an issue with my server as it works in other browsers fine and works fine in Safari for OS X.
If you have any information on how to solve this or things for me to try to rectify this for use with Windows operating system it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    GREAT NEWS!!!!
I have solved this issue myself with some help from my a user on Microsoft Forums. The issue stems from the mime type of each Browser Chrome, IE, & Safari for Windows defaults as audio/wav. When the mime type is changed to audio/x-wav everything works. Firefox defaults to audio/x-wav and when changed to audio/wav it DOES NOT work.
Once I input some code in my .php upload page to change the mimetype if audio/wav is detected everything works GREAT!!!
So Here is what you need to do: Find your upload page and input this code:
    echo "<p>MIME Type: ".$_FILES["file"]["type"]."</p>";
right before your "If/then" statement of file type. For me it was near line 30 in my upload.php page, but I'm sure this is different for everyone.
This will detect and DISPLAY the default mime type of your browser on the error page when your upload doesn't work. Once you know what mime type works for your file type then you can change your "if/then" statement for mime type upload to change your mime type to the correct one.
I don't want to give the code here, because I'm sure it's specific to your file types and your site construction, but this should lead you on the right track.
***This is the solution if you ARE NOT ABLE to upload any certain file in a certain Browser. It has to do with mime type construction***
I hope this helps others like it helped me!!!!!

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try the following:
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

  • 1 Powerbook working with Printer, 1 Not

We have 2 G4 Powerbooks at home, and a HP PSC 1350 printer connected to the Airport Express.
My Powerbook prints via wireless perfectly, but the other one doesn't. It happily sees the printer, tries to print, then tells me the print is Idle.
I've tried deleting the printer and adding it again several times, restarted the printer, and restarted the computer too. No luck.
Both computers worked fine using USB to connect to the printer before.

    Hi
    How about the driver refresh?
As suggested go to the device manager select the card reader and reinstall the driver.
What you can do is also to remove it from the device manager and after new OS reboot the card reader should be recognized again.
In this case the driver should be initialized again. Check it.
One more question. Did you use the safely remove option? Usually if you want to remove the card or want to disconnect the USB device you have to use firstly the safely remove and then you can remove the card from the slot. Dont forget it.

  • AirPort Express not working and Apple refuse to help.......

*post if you have the same problem*
I bought an AirPort Express base station, with the intension of turning my work network into a wireless network, as it said i could on the back of the box.
My work network has 802.1X wired security. Thats good because so does my AirPort Express base station, on the back of the box it says that it has 802.1X security..... So whats the problem you ask? I cant find any 802.1X security setting on AirPort Express...
If anyone can help then I would be very very very greatful, Apple dont want to know , so I hope you guys can help.
    thanks if you can help....
(btw Apples product support is the worst I have ever had).

Hello Pete_B. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I cant find any 802.1X security setting on AirPort Express...
To find the 802.1X security settings, you will need to select either WPA2 Enterprise or WPA/WPA2 Enterprise for your Wireless Security type, and then select the RADIUS option within the AirPort Utility.
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > AirPort > Access Control
