Airport express suddenly stopped working

My dad updates something on his system and suddenly my wifi, which had been working not 5 min prior to this, suddenly stops.  Now, no matter where in the house we plug it it, the airport express keeps blinking a yellow light.  It just stopped working.  Any ideas?

It's always a good idea to completely power cycle the entire network after any changes or updates to a network.
If  you have not already done so.......
Power off everything....all devices....order is not important
Start the modem first and let it run for a minute or two by itself
Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
Start the Airport Express the same way
Start each computer and device one at a time about a minute apart
Check the network for proper operation

  • My airport express suddenly stopped working.

I have had an airport express unit that I purchased new from Apple about a year ago. The warranty is now expired and it has suddenly stopped working. It shined its amber light for more than an hour, and when I unplugged it to see if it would work somewhere else, it flashed its amber light and then went blank. It will now display no lights at all when it is plugged in, and my computer can not detect it, so it is obviously dead. Has anybody had any experience with this issue? I tried a hard reset (back when the amber light still worked, yesterday), but I do not know if it worked since the unit would not stay on for more than a few seconds (now not at all).
Other specifications: It has been used pretty much non-stop since its purchase a year ago as an extender for my Time Capsule's network. It served its purpose, although it seemed to lose connection fairly often. Nothing it didn't fix on its own though.
Well, that's my rant. Thanks in advance!

Unless you want to carefully saw open the case along the center seam with a fine toothed hacksaw or similar tool to open up the AirPort Express and look for something obvious....like a connector that has come loose or broken wire, it is time to replace the AirPort Express.
Your chances of success are very small if you want to try the repair route, so do this for the fun of it more than hoping that it will work.
Even if repairs were possible, a regular shop would likely charge you more than the cost of a new Express.

  • Why has my audio from Apple TV to Airport Express suddenly stopped working?

    Hi.
For over a year, I have had my Apple TV and Airport Express connected together and the audio worked perfectly fine. All of a sudden the audio playback on movies and Netflix had dropped off considerably. I now have to turn my amp upto 70 to get even the slightest sound. Music plays fine to the AE but not Movie Audio.
Anyone else having the same issue??
I'm confused because it's worked ok for a year!!
    Any help please??

    try restarting all of them

  • Airport Express suddenly stopped working Error (-15006) But Green Light On

    Hi There,
I have had my airport express for a few years and I use it to stream music from my macbook to my hifi.
However all of a sudden i stopped being able to see the drop down for the speakers in the bottom of itunes.
I have reset the airport express many times and reconnected it to my network which sometimes allows the speaker dropdown in itunes.
However when I get to that stage it tries to connect to my remote speakers for ages then eventually it times out or i get the error (-15006).
When tht happens the drop down menu goes completley.
I have now upgraded to itunes 9.0 and it still happens.
Please help I am getting very frustrated!

Sorry guys, I don't mean to give you a hard time, and I know I'd feel the same as you if it was my kit that was fried. Think I must have just finished reading the iPod nano article, where Apple has been slated for refusing to replace nano's that have surface scratches, even though they're still under warranty. It sounded like the usual story, consumer has purchased it, put it in their back pocket, sat down on it, put it through the washing machne and wondered why it was scratched. Funnily enough, I've kept mine in a old sock when not in use, and I've never been so stupid as to put it in my back pocket, clean it once a month and it's still as good as new.
Doesn't help your issue though, but an EU directive might. Not sure when it came into force, and I can't remember which articles it refers to explicitly, but consumer electrical goods sold in the EU must carry a minimum 3 year guarantee. I think that only applies to "white goods", fridges, washing machines, etc. But there was another part where they must have a minimum guarantee period of 2 years, for more general electrical goods.

  • Airport Express suddenly stops working

    Hi,
Wondering if people have had this problem and if they resolved it.
My Airport Express is used as my main wireless router, and there are 4 computers in this network. Often times my AE just stops working, I can't see it in wireless network list, it just disappears. It still has a green light, no flashing. I have to unplug the thing, wait a couple of seconds and then replug it. Then it'll work just fine 'till the next time it disappears on me.
    I wonder what's going on...
    Thanks

Many folks are having similar problems, even when the AX is only being used to run iTunes through a home stereo. That's my situation: my old PB running OS 10.4.11 is working fine running iTunes through the AX but my newer MPG running OS 10.5.5 doesn't see the AX at all. This seems to have happened when I upgraded to iTunes 8 (which required an AX firmware update). Seems to me that there is a conflict of some sort.....which Apple has not yet deigned to fix.
As an aside, the cynical side of me wouldn't be surprised if its a kink somewhere in Apple's latest DRM efforts, but that's just the cynical side of me. The non cycical side of me thinks that this is the type of bug that seems to be quite common in new Mac OS rollouts -- despite what the Apple commercials might suggest.

  • My Airport Express suddenly stopped working – the light no longer turns on. Is it a lost case?

I think I bought it 3 years ago, so I'm assuming it's no longer covered by any sort of warranty. Should I just toss it out and buy a new one, or is there any chance that I can get it fixed somehow? I would be so thrilled to not have to spend $100 on a new one!

  • Airport Express suddenly stopped working ... no flash, no light.

And it's out of warranty. No flash, no light, it's not the fuse in the plug. Any ideas on what to do?

  • Airport Express has stopped working, no IP-adress

Airport Express has stopped working. In my Airport tool, I can't see the Airport Express anymore.
Under network, I can still see the Airport, but it says, that it cant find an IP-Adress.
It can see my Airport Extreme.
    Thanks in advance.

    Try resetting the Airport Express.
If you don't see it in Airport Utility in your Utilities folder, then you would need to reset it...
Do you have it set to "Join" the Extreme network? or something else?
See this Apple doc on how to reset your base station.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
Also, you would not see it in your Network preference panel in the System Preferences.
You will only see the main network which is your Airport Extreme....
Unless you have 2 separate networks....
    How many do you have?

  • Airport woes - suddenly stopped working

I’m unfortunately currently having Airport issues, and was hoping to get some help. My wireless network has been running fine for a while, but yesterday evening it suddenly stopped working. I could see and join my network, but it wasn’t working. When I connected my computer directly to my modem via Ethernet, it worked fine. I rely on wireless a lot though, so I unplugged and plugged everything back in, but it didn’t solve anything. Eventually, I decided to reset my Airport Extreme and Express (used as WDS) base stations and start over. I set everything up (standard set up, Extreme with Express as WDS), and my connection started working again. After about half an hour though, my internet went down again (just like before, I could see my network, but it didn’t work)
I tried unplugging everything again, but that didn’t help matters. I decided to try a reset again, but unfortunately this time around, that didn’t work either. When I check the network part in the system preferences, it says I am connected to the internet over Airport (green light shows), but I Safari loads for a few seconds and then tells me I’m not connected to the internet. I thought there may be something up with my DNS settings, but I checked them and everything is entered correctly. I reset everything a third time, thinking there might be something wrong with my Extreme base station (I even tried going back to default firmware but that didn’t help), and just used my Express station. Unfortunately, that didn’t work either (I get a green light on my Express base station, but it just won’t work). That is when I gave up. I tried again one final time this morning and am still getting nowhere.
The odd thing is, I haven’t changed anything…I don’t know why it would suddenly stop working. I hadn’t changed any settings, or messed around with the firmware or anything. I’ve been on the latest Extreme/Express software updates since a couple of months ago and have had no issues whatsoever. When connected directly to my modem, my internet connection works fine – so I’m assuming it’s not an issue with my ISP (UK Online). Since I can’t get both my base stations to work, I’m also assuming there isn’t a physical issue with them. FYI, these base stations are the old ones, not the new 802.11n ones.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be up and/or any suggestions as to what I could try?
    Many thanks.
P.S. I am on OSX Tiger, latest update.

  • Help! My airport has suddenly stopped working!

I was mid browse and airport suddenly stopped working. I know it's not my wireless router as I can still connect with my wifi only iPad (typing this with it)
I have tried everything. Rebooted several times. Ran fsck twice. Ran repair permissions. Cleaned caches etc.
I can't even run network diagnostics because it won't accept the password even though I know it's right.
    Any help appreciated

I now suspect a corrupt plist. Can anyone suggest which one(s) to try removing?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Airport Express Basestation stopped working.

This is really just a last chance before I return the thing.
I've been using an airport express basestaion for the last year. This evening I was connected to the internet and it just stopped and the green light went out.
Seems like a major hardware fault. I've tried the fuse (in the plug). Tried it in a different socket. Tried the reset button. I've given it a while and tried again still nothing.
Is there anything else anyone would recommend before I return it?
I assume the year warranty extends to things like this.
    Ta
    iMac G5, iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Many airport express born stopped 1 year after constant use. I had this problem after 11 and a half month of use. It was out with no green light. Apple accepted to change it. But in France many people seem to have the same problem 12 or 13 month after use. You can see this above and on www.macbidouille.com (keyword : "airport express").
One year and not more. Is it true ?

  • Airport Express REALLY stopped working

My Airport Express has really stopped working: dead as a dodo, defunct, etc. It doesn't show in Airport Admin Utility or in iTunes, and the front light is also dead. I have tried changing the easy-access fuse but it makes no difference.
I assume it has rather annoyingly just died, but why or how I do not know. Is there anything else I can try or do? Is it worth having it repaired, given the relatively low cost?

Apple has already killed the main thread about this topic months ago, and have left isolated thread to develop a bit before sometimes deleting them: http://www.hardmac.com/news/2006-08-25/#5851
anyway, our curretn investigations show that APX with serial starting with HS4xx or HS5xx or even HS6xx are mostly affected by the sudden death syndroma.
other APX series manufacture with a serial starting with 6F are much much less prone to die after the end of the warranty.

  • Both my Airport Express have stopped working with OSX 10.7.5 Lion.

I'm going off my head!  Both AE's 802.11n have stopped working, and no longer appear in the Airport Utility
I installed the Airport Utility 5.6 but still no luck.  I reset the AE's with a 'hard reset' and also tried plugging in an Ethernet Cable, still no joy as both AE's have become 'invisible' to the config utility
    Running 10.7.5 (11G63)
Anyone managed to get these re-appear?

    UPDATE
By accident I have solved this.  I previously had two WiFi networks running, the 'prime' one is from a Sky router and the second one from an Apple Time Capsule.  To try and fix poor Sky broadband performance, I switched off the Time Machine to negate any potential issues of DNS clashes.  During this 'no Time Machine' period I plugged in the old Airport Express's one by one, did a hard reset by pressing the reset button with a paperclip on the AE whilst plugged in.  The Airport Express after flashing yellow quickly, then turned a steady yellow for around 2 minutes before started yellow slow flash.  Only then did it appear in the Airport Utility window (I used ver 6.1 without any issue on a Mac running 10.7.5)  BE PATIENT - THE AIRPORT EXPRESS TAKES A WHILE TO APPEAR AND YOU NEED TO RE-SCAN
When the yellow flash starts, re-scan for 'other Airport Base Stations' using the grey button top right of the utility window.
I configured one with an ethernet cable, and one over WiFi, both working and the whole job took maybe 10mins each
I'm using old Airport Express devices 802.11n.
Have not switched on the Time Machine yet - fingers crossed it does not all fall in a heap again !!!

  • Airport Express totally stopped working, tried many methods to make it work

Hi, I have an airport express, PURELY for the purpose of wirelessly playing music over my network through my stereo.
Now, I had it working perfectly out of the box, no problems at all. Suddenly it doesn't show up in iTunes and doesn't show up in Airport Utility either.
Usually I can get it to show up if I hold down the reset button for 10 seconds. This brings up the configuration page, which I go through and enter all my details in and then it gets to restart and it will not restart correctly, it tells me it cannot find it after restarting. +It worked fine before so why not now?+
I have tried directly plugging it into my router (downstairs in the study) to set it up, it has gone through the setup process perfectly, with all the settings it had when it worked before, the setup process successfully completes with the apple 'completion sound' So I should be able to unplug it and plug it back in in my bedroom and it should connect fine? But when it's plugged back in where I originally had the device, the light turns green and lo and behold, Airport Utility can't find it again!
What am I doing wrong here? Why would it suddenly not work when it was working perfectly fine before, I didn't have to plug it in to my router when I first set it up so why should I now?
    Help!

    The same issue.
    Asked a lot of macpeople.
    Nobody help.
