Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi not working

I just purchased Apples Airport Extreme 802.11n with the idea of getting just a bit more range than my old airport. This is/was hard to tell since I could not get the unit to function properly.
My internet service requires two address but this A/P Extreme only allowed one. This A/P Extreme 802.11n totally shut down my internet service. It did not allow wireless connection with other computers. The range seemed to be less than my older Airport Extreme 802.11 a/b/g.
I had to re-install my Airport Extreme a/b/g to get things working again.
I went to Apples Products and Service page to find out about the Express registration. Apples registration system did not recognize my serial number. Apparently their specification page recognized some parts of the serial number since the web page did display specification for the Airport Extreme.
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE REASON FOR ALL OF THIS TO HAPPEN?

You said you went to the "Express" page and tried to register above. It may be because you tried to register an Extreme as an Express. I had some difficulty over two months ago registering my Extreme. It let me register it without all the data because it would not recognize the serial number. Called Apple Care and they made sure it was registered.
Also, unless you have an all 802.11n system, you may get a little more range out of the Extreme, but I don't think any more than if you would have used an Airport Express 802.11g. Range and speed are geared toward all n systems.

AirPort Extreme 802.11n and PowerBooks?

I am about 1.5 seconds away from buying one of the new AirPort Extreme 802.11n base stations to work with my AirPort Express but I have some questions / concerns.
1) Is my Powerbook capable of being enabled to access an "n based network" or is my money wasted on a router capable of speeds my computer can not access?
2) Should my computer be capable of accessing this network, is the Airport Express Base Station I have capable of acting on this network in "N speed" too? I know the base station can be configured to act essentially as a relay to boost signal strength...if set up to do so will it dumb the speed down to "G speed"?
3) If 1 and 2 are true and the express base station dumbs the speed of the N router down, can I configure the airport express base station to ONLY act as a wireless conection to my stereo and not as a wireless router, so as to allow my Powerbook to access the "N" speed network but still broadcast my music wirelessly to the stereo?

Hey for any one still lookin....
1. It all depends on what your CARD is capable of. Your POWERBOOK is more then capable of "N" speeds. Your only limited on the bandwidth of the Cardbus slot. You would have to have a third party card to access the new "N" speeds tho. I'm not sure if the last batch of (pre MacBooks) Powerbooks even made it to the "G" standard. I know Apple just came out with a driver for the latest Macs that have an upgradeable Card and or Basestation to get to "N". I really don't think your Express is upgradeable.
2. You need to look at what models you have to figure out what their capable of. You should be able to go to Apple's web site to find out. Usually the Router will Dumb it down to the SLOWEST speed. Unless you were streaming your music, and playing a game online, and transferring a large file you shouldn't have a problem anyway. As long as you are not using the slowest product it won't dumb down.
3. Haven't got that far yet. I've used up all my brain cells getting this far, so good luck on your mission. Try starting another string with specifics on what you want to do.

No Green Light with new AirPort Extreme 802.11n

Bought new AirPort Extreme 802.11n today. DSL works fine with LINKSYS router but only get blinking Amber light with new APE. I am using 10.3.9 so can not use Utility CD as it requires 10.4. Do I have to upgrade system to 10.4 to get APE to work.

Thanks for help. I upgraded to OS X as you all suggested and was able to use AirPort Extreme utility to access web and get the green light. I had to determine how I was connected to internet by DSL provider (PPOE) and needed to insert my mail ID (e-mail address) and my mail password. I was able to verify the PPOE connection by imputting the IP address of the Linksys connection on my browser and going to their web page.
It took me a while but Apple support was available as it was a new purchase and they talked me thru.

New Airport Extreme (802.11n): : Port Mapping... ***???

There are two different programs I was formerly using, whereby (after following instructions) I was able to create a static IP address for every machine on my network, plus open ports 8000 and 9990-9998 respectively. But ever since upgrading to the new Airport Extreme (802.11n), it completely stopped working. To boot, I've upgraded to Leopard on one of two of the machines (the other is still using 10.3.9).
I haven't been able to figure out for the life of me, how to configure it. It's no longer as obvious where and what information to put in. All guides that would remotely help are designed for the older Airport unit, which has completely different menus in the Airport Utility.
Is there anyone out there who has experience with Dot-Tunes and/or Nicecast or similar port mapping, who has the patience to describe, in layman's terms, what steps to take to get this set up correctly again, starting with how to reassign static IPs for my machines. I will not ask a lot of questions and take up too much more of your time. I'm just frustrated after a whole day of trying to figure this out and fruitless Google and forum searches.

I'm not familiar with either Dot-Tunes or Nicecast, but the following would be the general port mapping procedure with the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) using the AirPort Utility. Note in this procedure you will not need to assign a static IP address for each of your host devices. Instead you will be taking advantage of the AEBSn's DHCP reservations feature.
To setup port mapping on an AEBSn, either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the host device.
Internet > DHCP tab
o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
o Reserve address by: MAC Address
o Click Continue.
o MAC Address: <enter the MAC (what Apple calls Ethernet ID if you are using wired or AirPort ID if wireless) hardware address of the host computer>
o IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
o Click Done.
2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
Advanced > Port Mapping tab
o Click the "+" (Add) button
o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
o Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
o Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
o Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>

o Click "Continue"

How do I know if my airport Extreme 802.11n needs updated firmware based on heart bleed issue using Mavericks?

I have Mavericks on oour laptops. I have an Airport Extreme 802.11n WI-FI not sure when I bought it. THe article by Tim Cook and Heartbleed issue is very technical and only mentions Leopard operating system. So do not know if I need to upgrade firmware or not. Not sure I undertand "Back to my Mac" or what to do? Also have an airport express.

Timed Access not working on new Airport Extreme (802.11n).

I bought a new Airport Extreme (802.11n) to use as a router for my network. The network has a mixture of Macs and PCs, using a mixture of wired and wireless connections.
I configured the security settings with on the Airport Extreme to Timed Access. I set the default setting is to No Access.
Three computers are set with "Everyday, Between 8:00am and 11:00pm"; however, when it's 11:00pm, nothing happens. The three computers continue to have access.
I know the MAC addresses I entered are correct. Does anyone know why the Timed Access is not working?

Yes, the printer was initially set the same way it always was on my old router. It used to pop right up on the list. After I switched I was getting communication errors. Ok, new setup, I wasn't worried yet. When I got to the setup window and it a new printer wasn't found I tried updating drivers. No luck. I then used the IPP mode to enter the IP address with the address on the Canon screen. It failed. I then did the same setup telling it which software from the driver list to use. It still could not see it. The odd part is that the Canon can obviously see the router as its LAN setting read active and it is receiving the IP. I have proceeded to play with every setting on the printer and it is back to factory reset. Oh, I should mention that I have also tried to use Canons network setup utility software and it can not find the connection either. So I really think this is a problem within the router. I have seen many complaints about this on other forums, but most were looking to use the usb on the print server. My Airport is nowhere near my printer and I don't want to lose my all-in-one functions. Some think hard lined ethernet is ancient, but it really is a nice setup. Fast and reliable.

WMM for AirPort Extreme (802.11n) - UMA T-Mobile not working...

Is there any chance we'll see WMM (WiFi Multi-Media) in a firmware upgrade anytime soon? I noticed that according to the WiFi Alliance's website, when the AirPort Extreme was certified, it supported WMM!

As an early adopter, I just got a BlackBerry 8320 from T-Mobile, which does UMA, so you can use the phone over WiFi. Works awesome with wireless routers that do WMM, basically doesn't work with my AirPort Extreme... As you might imagine, this is quite frustrating, as I have particular desire to have two APs, for basically no reason!

i am a die-hard apple user- heck, even a long-time stockholder- and recently
bought an airport extreme (802.11n) router for my house. it worked
flawlessly and i thought it was the best thing since sliced bread... well,
until i picked up a UMA phone from T-Mobile.
UMA is a service that routes your calls over WiFi. for some reason the UMA
service worked everywhere except over my Airport Extreme base station. as a
surprise, it even worked over my neighbour's older Airport Extreme (802.11g)
connection.
i swapped base stations (ie, brought his base station to my house, connected
it to my network) and it worked. so, it is an issue that is clearly
isolated to the new 802.11n base stations.
thinking it was only me with this issue, i dug around the internet and found

obviously there's no resolution and people are getting quite peeved that a

AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler not working

Hello, I just installed the Time Capsule software onto my 1st gen MacBook. I saw that it installed the AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler, but after looking at the network utility. All that show up is: Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g), it does not give the little 'n.' I ran the installer twice, but no joy. Any help would be great!

Go to the Apple menu and select about this Mac. Does it say "Intel Core Duo" or "Intel Core 2 Duo"?
Only the Macs with "Intel Core 2 Duo" processors have the 802.11n hardware. If you Mac book has the "Intel Core Duo" processor the enabler is useless.

This would be the correct setting if the AirPort Extreme is connected to a simple modem (one ethernet port).
*Settings I have Enabled*
5 GHz name indicates that you have elected to use the option to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network. This will allow you to "tell" compatible computers to connect to that network, rather than the slower 2.4 GHz network
Use Wide Channels is recommended for 5 GHz operation.
Interference Robustness often does more harm than good and should not be used unless you know you are in a area with a lot of wireless networks and you feel that your network is experiencing interference issues from a nearby network.

Not able to see disk connected to AirPort Extreme 802.11n

I just installed my AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wireless Base station. Wireless internet works like a charm, however, I cannot see my external hard disk when it is connected to the base station (amber light blinking and when checking the problem, I am told that "Disk needs repair"). When connecting the hard disk directly to the PC, I have no problem seeing the data. Any tips or tricks out there... ?

I finally got my 500 GB Western Digital MyBook USB drive to work by reformatting it to HFS+ format.
Of course, before I could do that, I had to copy all my files onto another hard drive. That job took a day to accomplish.
I work with Poser, and have a lot of content installed... We're talking thousands of files.
Once the drive was reformatted to HFS+ format, I copied everything back over. That took another day. Then I connected to the AEBS.
The USB drive was immediately recognized. It was incredibly easy to access the USB drive on my PCs. It required no effort on my part, except to supply the password.
In the end, I've decided this effort is a failure.
The drive is way too slow for my needs. Also, one of my vital Poser utilities (CorrectReference Pro) will not work properly with the USB drive on the AEBS.
I am currently in the process of copying all those files over to two external USB hard drives attached to my other PC.
Then I plan to unmount my 500 GB MyBook drive, and reformat it back to NTFS. I'll let the Notebook PC have it on a direct connection again.
I have a couple "junk" External Hard drives that are 160 GB. Maybe I'll use one of those as an Airport disk...
But I won't be using the Airport disk for anything important. It's too slow.

I appologize for the font and colour, I compossed the question in pages and failed to notice the font colour as grey ... there are a variety of computers of various ages so I think it is using a setting that allows both 5G and 2.4 ... the connection to the Airport is thru a cable modem and cable does run throuhout the house ... maybe those hard wires would be a place to look at ... do you think that putting the 'Express' on the second floor might help ... thanks again ...

When I try to print, I get a USB Waiting message on the printer, and when I force a page to print by pressing Go on the printer, I get a page that says ERROR: syntaxerror OFFENDING COMMAND: true. . . .cvt . . . fpgm . . . x . . .lglyf . . . <..J head . . . STACK: / [ -mark- /sfnts I’ve tried shutting down the printer and disconnecting it and the Airport, but that doesn’t help. I reset the settings on the printer. I upgraded the Airport firmware and removed, reinstalled, and upgraded the Lexmark printer driver. After I upgraded the firmware and printer driver, a few pages printed correctly, but then I got the same syntax error page as before. Any suggestions for getting the printer to work correctly?

Use a powered USB hub between the AE and the printer.. the usb port does sometimes have issues.
Try deleting the printer in the Mac and reinstall it.. the change in AE can represent effectively a change of printer.. it is important to make sure that is all up to date.
Beyond that.. USB printers.. ughhh! Consider for two toners you can go and buy a proper network printer.

Airport Express 802.11n + Airport Extreme 802.11n 2.4ghz but not 5ghz?

I can't get my Airport Express 802.11 to extend the network of my Airport Extreme 802.11n using 5Ghz only... but it will work with "n only 2.4Ghz"....
any solutions?

Addtional info both AE's now have ver 7.5.2 installed, prior it was 7.6 and situation is still the same.

USB Printing AirPort Extreme 802.11n

I've upgraded to the new AirPort Extreme 802.11n base station and am having troubles printing to printers that worked fine with my previous AirPort Extreme 802.11g base station.
Both USB printers are detectable for set-up in the Print & Fax Preference tab and can be printed to when hooked directly to my computer. They are also detectable for set-up in the Print & Fax Preference tab when hooked via the base station.
So, all set-up and settings are fine. The issue I am having which never occurred before is that the file is sent to the queue but is immediately labeled as stopped and will not print no matter what I try.
I've configured, reconfigured, reset,you name it but with no luck.
does anyone have any answers out there. Please help...

I have had the same issue repeatedly after upgrading to Leopard. I can no longer use my printer (Brother HL-2070N the "network ready one") with my airport extreme router. It used to show up before I updated to 10.5.2, now I can't even get it to show up at all. I reset the base station, unplugged, and then re-plugged in the printer, nothing worked. Then I tried to just delete it from my list of printers and re-add it, but now my computer can't find it! I didn't change anything on my network at all, and I had literally printed something just 10 minutes before I applied the update. Very frustrating for a $180 router.
