Airport Extreme compatibility with Linksys WAG54GS

I've got a linksys WAG54GS wireless gateway/router and want to connect my old Airport Extreme basestation to it.
I've seen various posts stating that there are only a few routers which are compatible with the Extreme. Does apple publish a list anywhere so I can find out if its worth my while persevering with trying to connect the two?
Or does anyone here know if my router is compatible?

I tested it, does not really work either. I just submitted an enhancement request via apple.com/feedback to ask if they want to add native v6 over PPPoE.
I hope they take it into account.

Airport Extreme communication with Linksys WRT54G v6

We originally had Linksys connected to dsl modem; dell laptop was able to connect to internet; the mac could not. We purchased Airport Extreme and it is connected to the modem. All Mac laptops are online with excellent signal; Dell is online but has intermittent connection. We were told at the Apple Store to continue using the Linksys anywhere in the house; that it would pick up a signal from the Airport Extreme; that it only needed to be powered on, not connected to the modem or Airport Extreme. The Dell receives an excellent signal from Linksys when it is powered on but has "limited or no connectivity" to the internet. Is it true that the Linksys does not need to be connected via ethernet cable, that it will pick up a signal? If so, how can we get the Dell online using the Linksys?

A couple of thing to try
first make sure boardcasting of the SSID is on in the router.
when I first set it up I had to have it on for it to "see" the router, after I disable SSID boardcasting and it worked like a champ, until it died on me for good last week but that's another show
second thing: if you have MAC address filtering on the router make you added the new airport card's address to the filter, or else you won't be able to connect.
third: Macs have problems using the other wep keys beside the first one listed in the router so I have seen. IE: using the second wep key might not work. Make sure you are using the first one. Try to mirror the settings of the other iBook if you can.
fouth: in system prefs. > network > Airport > make sure under preferred networks yours is listed.
the fifth which is kind of lame is unplug the router for a few minutes and replug it in, this worked for me on some cases.
what I did to set up my networks is I turn the airport card on (a given) and the clicked other as the network it pops up a place to give the SSID and wep key, usually this works and this is actaully how I have to connect each time.
BTW I have both a d-link router and a linksys router and it's basicly the same deal with each.
If nothing works, trade the card in and see if it happens with another card, is not hey your good to go, if so, might be the iBook or a bad install of OS X on it Some go as far as reinstalling OS X (wiping out the old install), when they get a new mac.

AirPort Extreme compatibility with native IPv6

Fibre To The Cabinet becomes available soon in my street, in the UK.
Speaking to two ISPs who offer IPv6 native service, both say that their customers trying to use AirPort Extreme routers for IPv6 natively are experiencing problems.
They both say that the device only works when setup in tunnel mode.
My understanding is that such a setup is inferior.
Both ISPs blame the device for the lack of compatibility.
Has anyone here experienced this problem?
Has anyone here found a provider with whom this works?

Airport Extreme Compatibility with Windows Vista

I hope someone can help. I installed airport extreme and all my computers (Mac's and pc's on XP) can connect ok to the internet. The new laptop I just bought with Vista will not work. After two hours of tech support from Apple and then Toshiba, I learned that the router works when no security is selected, but when either available security level is selected, the laptop will recognize the router signal but won't connect to the internet. I downloaded the 7.1 Apple update and did a firmware update to the base station. Any ideas about this? It seems as though the security levels in the Apple router are not recognized by Vista. But I don't see an available fix to download.

One possibility is to locate an older wireless access point and configure it in bridge mode and use it only for 802.11g wireless access to the network by the Vista notebook computer.

The answer depends on whether the AirPort Extreme is your main router....or...the Linksys device is your main router.
In either case, the two devices must connect together using a wired Ethernet connection using CAT5e or CAT6 cabling.
Any version of the AirPort Extreme produced within the last 5 years will have Gigabit Ethernet ports. In order to get the same speeds from the Linksys router, it will also need to be Gigabit Ethernet capable.
If you need additional Ethernet ports, you will need to add a Gigabit Ethernet switch to either the AirPort Extreme or Linksys router.
It is assumed that your other devices connecting to the AirPort Extreme and Linksys router will also have Gigabit Ethernet capability.
Not sure why you mention "ac" speeds in your post. This relates to wireless connections, not wired.

The airport extreme used with my iMac is not seeing my iPhone 5, iPad (third generation) or my windows based PC. When I open the airport utility it shows only the internet and my iMac. It does not identify the others. Any thoughts? Thanks

Troubleshooting missing devices
If your Apple wireless device doesn't show up in the wireless device list, try the following:
Check to see that the device is turned on.
Check that the device is connected to the network via Ethernet or in wireless range of your computer.
Make sure the device has had adequate time to start up and become discoverable. In the case of Apple wireless devices that are not connected via Ethernet, AirPort Utility scans for new devices once every 15 seconds. From the time a device becomes discoverable (typically around one minute), it could take up to another 15 seconds before the device is displayed in the list.
If you have just configured a new Apple Wireless device, upgraded the firmware, selected "Restore Default Settings..." or have hard reset and configured an Apple wireless device and it does not show up in AirPort Utility after restarting, you may have an incorrect setting. You may want to hard reset the unit and set it up again.
If you are connected to a specific wireless network, all Apple wireless devices which make up that network will appear. However, if you "Restore Default Settings..." from AirPort Utility, or hard reset a device that is out of physical wireless range of the computer, you will need to move the device closer the computer to configure it again.

AIrplay to digital or analogue devices like speakers or hifi system is only available in Express. Or Apple TV.
The TC or Extreme will pass airplay protocol just fine to your ATV.
The Extreme and TC and now identical apart from the TC having an internal hard disk.

I am running wifi from verizon. Recently changed from mifi2200 to jetpak 4620 in a 3G location. Ibook running fine, desktop freezes. If I can boot desktop in safe mode and get airport turned off in time. then I can reboot regularly and imac runs flawlessly with no wireless.Have run disk utilities and TechTool Pro rebuild etc, but nothing has worked. How do I fine the culprit?

the power logix thing was really sad. apple changed so much after 10.4.8 that there wasn't a viable way to patch the software.
That statement is precisely why I don't believe in blindly updating the OS, especially in a non-standard machine.
We can't expect third parties to support us forever, and it is shameful to break something that works fine, except that we updated the OS....
I think that any upgrade or modification to a machine or the OS greatly increases the risk of trouble or incompatibility with current configuration and "new" system files.
After all, the component or software could only be tested as far as the current OS version when the component or software was released.
Beyond that, we are all "beta testing".
Following a beta tester protocol, and applying updates to a cloned system drive first, is a prudent way to approach updates, and not only for older, heavily modified machines.
After 10.4.8 and moreso with Leopard, the focus is primarily on Intel architecture, not PPC architecture.
Like it or not, we are all updating to the abyss of the extinction of our machines, unless we can be satisfied with the last stable version of OS that works well with our hardware and software.
I wish they would include the latest pkgs at least with software update.
Yes, having individual packages, rather than lump "OS X 10.x.x" updates would be nice.
This way, one could update as one sees fit. That is to say, for example, fix the Quicktime, but leave my Network alone, etc., etc.
In all fairness, Apple does provide for some breakdown of updates, but I believe there is much room for improvement, especially, as you point out, with regard to the core services portion of the OS.
Until then, I'll leave Software Update disabled.......

Airport Snow compatability with new MacBook Pro?

I was given an old Airport (one of the originals) "Snow" model and was wondering if there is an imcompatability issue with the new MacBook Pro laptops and their modern Airport Extreme Cards with the older basic Airports?

I was told that I could use the Apple Airport Extreme router with my PC - but I can't seem to figure it out. Any suggestions to get started?

Sorry to be so ignorant when it comes to this type of stuff. I have a laptop (Dell) and a home computer (PC). The Apple man told me all I had to do with my previous router was unplug it and plug in the Extreme and it would walk me through the steps. It didn't. I think I may have changed some settings on the PC. Now I can't even get the previous router to work so I'm hardwired in on my laptop to even get here.
Do I need to hardwire in the PC, download the above utility, then try to hook up the Extreme router? How do I make it "secure" or locked so no one else can use it other than ones with the key code?

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

If you want an internal drive, go for the Time Capsule. It wouldn't make sense to launch two AirPorts that are the same but one does not include a hard drive even if it comes with the hard drive connector.
Another option you have is to connect an external hard drive to your AirPort Extreme

The AirPort Extreme fully implements the IEEE 802.11 wireless protocols for a through n and will work with any computer that uses a compliant version of any of those protocols. So, yes it will work with the Lenovo as long as the Lenovo is not doing something strange with wireless.
