AirPort network dropping connection at least twice a day

I'm running an AirPort network and guest network version 7.6.4 - Time Capsule serves as my router, extreme and express as my extenders.  At least twice a week, my AirPort Network drops wi-fi connectivity.  It's annoying and frustrating as often I'm using a VIOP line for work conference calling and or using web meeting services.  The wi-fi droppage requires me to un/re plug the time capsule - the only fix I've found.  Doing this corrects the issue until the next drop.  Usually a couple of days...
Is there a permanent fix I can use that I don't know about?  I was under the impression my AirPort Network "would just work"

Since the Thunderbolt Display has been released I have seen this issue on literally hundreds of display/laptop combinations. With and without the extension cable. I have not found any logic around the issue, trying different usb/thunderbolt ports, different sleep settings, power settings. This is a legitmate issue that should be addressed and Apple is not addressing it -- or can't address it. BTW-There is NO reason to engineer a product with an extension cable needed to operate the peripheral. The only way to solve this is to burn a USB port on your laptop. I am fairly certain the issue is power related over the Thunderbolt bus. However, I have also experienced issues with USB3 hubs on macs. So maybe it is a larger power issue.
Anyway, an Apple wired keyboard should just work out of the box.

It almost seems that it dropps out more when my roomates are running ares transfering files. What is causing this/what can i do to fix it? THANKS

  • AE dropping signal at least 1x per day?

    Folks,
I hope everyone is doing well. I have Comcast as a high speed internet provider and have my AE running in my apartment. I have been having problems for the past 3 weeks with my internet dropping out at least 1x per day. There does not seem to be any reason for the dropout. I have called Comcast and each tech I have spoken with has given me a different answer for the problem. First, I was told the modem was dropping out. The second time I was told that I had packet loss. Finally, today, I was told that the modem was "struggling." Additionally, they have sent someone out twice and each time the guy has stayed for five minutes, replaced a splitter and then left. Well, whatever they did is not working and I am still having the problem.
I am beginning to wonder if this is an AE problem instead of a Comcast problem. Can AE's go bad? I have never really had a problem with it until the past couple weeks. I am trying to find out if anyone has any other troubleshooting tips? I have already tried both hard resets and factory resets of the AE and this has not worked either. Let me know if anyone has any ideas.
    Thanks,
    Joe B

  • Time Capsule flashes amber and loses connection at least once a day

    Hello,
I got my Time Capsule a month ago. I had an old one from 2008 which I gave to a friend, so it was time to upgrade. I have no idea what's going on, but the Time Capsule flashes amber and I lose my Internet connection at least once a day, sometimes two or three times within a few hours.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Any idea how to fix it?
    If it matters, I'm on a mid-2010 MBP running OS X 10.8.5.
    Thanks!

    You and everyone else.

It is not stable firmware.. or has issues .. with some modems.. or is just faulty.. pick one or two choices.
There is no fix because this is really a bug.

It will take longer to charge the 5G's battery than either the 3G or 4G's battery.

  • Severe drop connection (10-12 times a day) and slow internet

Hello, I am getting very frequent dropped connections (between 10-12 a day). My internet connection is very slowwwwwww. I cannot even stream a YouTube video without pausing it and waiting about 10 minutes for the video to completely load before playing it. Most websites take over 30 seconds to load and some won't load at all because it says that it timed out. I have tried using IE8 and Google Chrome and Firefox....the same result on all browsers. I am running a brand new Verizon GT701C modem and a brand new Belkin 926 router. I am hard wired into the Belkin. I bought a new modem and router because I thought maybe my equipment was too dated, but I am still having the same severe problems. I feel like I am on dial -up all over again. Thanks in advanced for any help.  Here is the system log report from my modem :

#1 Where did you get that/those logs from:
    a) The GT701C
    b) The Belkin
#2 What is the exact model of that Belkin? I am having a real hard time finding any info on a Belkin 926,

  • Linksys WRT54GL and Airport Extreme dropping connections

In looking through these forums, I realize that people have had problems with their Linksys WRT54G routers and their Airport cards. There seem to be a lot of suggested fixes, but no definitive answer as to what's wrong. I don't know either, and after changing channels, changing Linksys firmware, changing encryption, creating background pings, and all of the recommended solutions, the problem persists. I wanted to document it here in the hopes that someone can figure out what's wrong. Here's a tail of /var/log/system.log during a period when the Mac was having trouble connecting to the Linksys. I don't believe that this is due to Wifi interference or the Linksys, since other machines in the house (a Mac running 10.4.8, but using a Cisco card), for example, don't have these same problems at this time.
Basically, this kind of behavior repeats for a half-hour or so, then settles down for "a while," where a while could be an hour or could be 6 hours, and then it repeats. I have no idea what the problem is, and I suspect it's a problem with the Airport Extreme, rather than with the Linksys. Ideas?

I thought I understood your Airport network would disconnect, but I don't understand what you mean by "drops ethernet". Clearly, if your wired connection stops working, so will your Airport network. Explain?
What I am saying is that I have wireless connections to the Ae and I have wired connections to it as well. Both are getting dhcp from the Ae. Both are getting dropped. In the log I am getting these entries, about once per hour...
    "Jan 06 10:26:00 Severity:5 Connection accepted from ::ffff:10.0.97.190/57902.
    Jan 06 10:26:01 Severity:5 unloading current configuration.

    Jan 06 10:26:20 Severity:5 Deauthenticating with station ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff (reserved 3).
Jan 06 10:26:20 Severity:5 Rotated TKIP group key."
The 10.0.97.190 is the recently-added OS X Server. Not sure what the port is. But it seems to be doing something untoward.

06823 14:51:25 (0) ** => This error is typically a WMI error. This WMI error is due to:
    06824 14:51:25 (0) **    - a missing WMI class definition or object.
06825 14:51:25 (0) **      (See any GET, ENUMERATION, EXECQUERY and GET VALUE operation failures).
06826 14:51:25 (0) **      You can correct the missing class definitions by:
    06827 14:51:25 (0) **      - Manually recompiling the MOF file(s) with the 'MOFCOMP <FileName.MOF>' command.
06828 14:51:25 (0) **      Note: You can build a list of classes in relation with their WMI provider and MOF file with WMIDiag.
06829 14:51:25 (0) **            (This list can be built on a similar and working WMI Windows installation)
06830 14:51:25 (0) **            The following command line must be used:
    06831 14:51:25 (0) **            i.e. 'WMIDiag CorrelateClassAndProvider'
06832 14:51:25 (0) **      Note: When a WMI performance class is missing, you can manually resynchronize performance counters
06833 14:51:25 (0) **            with WMI by starting the ADAP process.
    06834 14:51:25 (0) **    - a WMI repository corruption.
06835 14:51:25 (0) **      In such a case, you must rerun WMIDiag with 'WriteInRepository' parameter
06836 14:51:25 (0) **      to validate the WMI repository operations.
06837 14:51:25 (0) **    Note: ENSURE you are an administrator with FULL access to WMI EVERY namespaces of the computer before
06838 14:51:25 (0) **          executing the WriteInRepository command. To write temporary data from the Root namespace, use:
    06839 14:51:25 (0) **          i.e. 'WMIDiag WriteInRepository=Root'
06840 14:51:25 (0) **    - If the WriteInRepository command fails, while being an Administrator with ALL accesses to ALL namespaces
06841 14:51:25 (0) **      the WMI repository must be reconstructed.
06842 14:51:25 (0) **    Note: The WMI repository reconstruction requires to locate all MOF files needed to rebuild the repository,
06843 14:51:25 (0) **          otherwise some applications may fail after the reconstruction.
06844 14:51:25 (0) **          This can be achieved with the following command:
    06845 14:51:25 (0) **          i.e. 'WMIDiag ShowMOFErrors'
06846 14:51:25 (0) **    Note: The repository reconstruction must be a LAST RESORT solution and ONLY after executing

A Wmiprvse.exe process crashes in Windows Server 2008 R2 when you use the WMI interface to query the hardware status on a computer that supports the IPMI standard

I saw this in my googling.  Listed as the cause on the hotfix page is the following: "This
problem occurs because the Ipmiprv.dll module leads the Wmiprvse.exe process to crash. This behavior depends on certain hardware sensor types when the sensor is enumerated."  The
faulting module for that hotfix is ipmiprv.dll, and our faulting module is ntdll.dll.  I'm thinking that this hotfix isn't applicable, but I'm open to hearing why I'm incorrect if I am.

  • Have creative cloud installed and Creative Suite 6 need both installed on this machine anytime I open acrobat it prompts for the serial number at least twice a day

When I open Acrobat it prompts to enter serial number was twice a week now is twice a day. Do not know how to get this to go away. Worked with Creative Cloud support they said it was a CS6 issue but CS6 does not have support. That I can find

    Hi Michael ,
With CS6 we used to ship Acrobat 10 and with Creative Cloud it's Acrobat 11.
Have you installed both on the system?
Which version of Acrobat and OS are you using?

  • Lost Airport signal drops connection over whole network!

    Hi-
I have a G5 1.5 GHz tower (I think that's the right speed), running OS 10.4 and connecting to our cable line via Airport Extreme to our router. We also have a PC that is hardwired to the router. I was having trouble for a while with my connection dropping if the computer went to sleep, but that seems to have been fixed. In its place, though, is a worse problem- almost daily, I lose my signal, and it will knock our entire connection offline so that we have to unplug the whole setup in order to reconnect. It seems like this happens with high-traffic or graphic-intensive sites.
Do you think switching the channel will help in this case, or is there something else I should try? Please let me know if you need more information.
    Thanks!

tcano, Welcome to the discussion area!
Changing the channel is free, quick, easy, painless, etc. so it is certainly something to try.

  • Airport Extreme drops connection for a few seconds at a time

My airport extreme seems to drop its connection for about 5 seconds at a time and then is back up.  It does it every 10-15 minutes or so.  I am not really sure why it is doing this because it has just started happening recently and worked fine for months and months.  I need help because I dont know much about networking.

When you inserted your AirPort Extreme (It was an AirPort Extreme card, right?) card in your G5, did you attach the antenna cable AND the external "T" antenna?

  • Airport Network Doesnt Connect to the internet!

    Hi,
I recently had a long powercut in my area and when the power finally came back on my netgear router would no longer connect to the internet and not even push out a signal (the ethernet cable still feeds internet when plugged directly into the macbook however). I figured the powercut damaged the router and replaced it with the new Apple Base Station Extreme as I already had an Express extending my network via another ethernet cable upstairs which worked fine.
The problem is still there with the new router. I have set the new network up in Airport Utilitly and the Extreme and Express dont always work. More often than any other issue is the the Internet is flicks from green to orange. The internet ethernet cable I plug into the Extreme clearly feeds internet but as soon as I plug it into the base station I get nothing (im assuming there may have been nothing wrong with my netgear router now and a problem with my connection).
I have reset the Extreme and Express many times and it works for a while (sometimes), but then I try to connect my ipad/iphone or smart TV to the network and it drops out. All products are apple apart from the TV. So frustrating as I never had these problems before this particular powercut!
Here are some screen shots of my network:
    1) This is with the internet plugged directly into the macbook
    2) This is with the ethernet cable (which feeds the internet) plugged into the Extreme (and etherent cable from extreme into mac book otherwise you sometimes can see the base stations). With this picture I couldnt access internet or base stations settings.
Sometimes however the system does work and then suddenly drops out. I have checked my DSL modem/router which feed the internet and there are no problems with it. It doesnt seem consistant at all. How can it suddenly work then drop out? This happens as soon as I connect another device like my ipad as well, then I have to reboot all over. I cant imagine that every device in my house are broken! My network has gone to pot!
Sending this with the ethernet plugged into my mac book direct haha!
Would be most grateful if anyone can help!

  • Airport Extreme Dropping Connections

Hi, I have an AEBS, connected to a comcast "Teralyn" cable modem. I have a PowerMac Quad Core, connected to the AEBS by an ethernet cord, and we have an IBM ThinkPad and a PB15 G4 that we connect to the AEBS wirelessly.
Up until a day or so ago, everything worked great. But starting yesterday the connection to the AEBS and to the Internet from the Cable Modem drop intermittently. Seemingly no rhyme or predictability.
When I disconnect the AEBS from the cable modem, there is stability in the network. When I reset the AEBS and restart the cable modem, the problem persists. Random disconnects.
    Im running the following setup:
    - V5.7 on the AEBS
    - OSX 10.4.4
    - Airport Firmware V404.2 (3.90.34.0.p16)
Any help is greatly appreciated. Any ideas... I've tried a bunch and am ready to throw my AEBS out the window.
    Thanks.

Hello, I'm having kind of the same problem.
I have an airport extreme set up to connect to an adsl modem. There are 1 IMac, 3 PC running XP SP1/2. Everything works fine (Good signal strength, excellent speed, etc.) except for one pc (xp sp1 all updates with USR5416).
It randomly disconnects from the base station without apparent reason. Often, it reconnects within the 5 following secondes.
The annoying thing is when the connection application in my task bar starts flashing : connected/disconnected/connected/disconnected... it can last from 10 seconds to several minutes while it's impossible to do anything networked.
    Any idea?
The airport extreme is updated to the latest firmware, so is my USR wireless card, windows xp, etc...

  • Airport Express drops connections

I recently bought an airport express to use for streaming music. I set it up to join my existing wireless network using DHCP to get an IP address. It works fine for a few minutes to a few hours. Then it drops the connection to the existing wireless network. Streaming doesn't work and I can't ping it. The status light remains green and I am unable to connect to it using airport utility. If I unplug it and plug it back in, it reboots and then works ok for a while. If I connect to the Airport Express using the ethernet port it reboots and then works fine for a while. The behavior has been consistent for 3 days.
My existing wireless network consists of two access points. One is part of the router that Verizon provided with my fios connection and is an Actiontec and is running in mixed b and g modes uing WPA. The other access point is a Linksys WAP54G with a wired ethernet connection to the router. Both access points use the same SSID. (I have two access points to provide adequate signal strenght throughout the entire house.)
    Any suggestions?
    Tom

Hi, I recently swapped an old N 450 Router to Apple Extreme (5Gen). Initially the signal was very strong and even in first floor Smart TV Netflix loading was almost instantaneous. I have a 50mbps Xfinity Blast. All nice and felt that it was such a good move and justified the cost of the router too. After 2 days, started noticing connection drop outs, IP address conflicts, unable to connect, wifi was connected but no internet. Power recycled it and things seemed okay. again after 2 days, the internet was very slow, dog slow infact to load up regular websites and pages. This time through it was something with the Xfinity modem (Motorola SB6121) which never in 2 years had given me any issues, but recycled it, seems to be marginally better, but the speed ( not the wifi signal) remained very slow. I am a IT person, not specifically Networking, but quite good with systems, configurations etc. Finally eating up my pride called the Apple Support. The guy who responded seemed knowledgeable. He asked me to walk through the set up process, which I said, I have already done it.He asked me how did I set the router up. I had used an iPad with the Apple Utility and since there about 15 devices connected through out the house, I had used the same SSIDs one for 5Ghz and another for 2.4 Ghz. Apparently using the same SSID leads to deterioration in both connectivity and signal strength. I have never heard of this as I have swapped out routers in past 12 years using same SSIDs without any issues. The Support guy told me that this is only with Apple Routers and not with other brands. I have never heard any such thing and trying to google did not get me much information on this. I reached this forum as result. I need answers desperately so that I can decide to return or keep the router. Thanks

  • Airport Utility dropping connection

I own a month-old 27" iMac, just upgraded to OS X 10.8.3.  After the update, I began experiencing trouble with the airport utility.
It will randomly drop the connection and refuse to pick back up unless I turn wifi off, and then back on. Airport still displays all the availble networks, as well as showing that its still connected to my network. I am also able to surf on my MacBook and my iPhone while my iMac refuse to load any webpage.
Anyway to rectify this? It's getting a bit annoying to reset the airport every 20 minutes.

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.
