Airport Utility Software won't run

MacBook 4.1 (2.4G Core 2 Duo) running OS 10.5.8
All attempts to run the Airport Utility version (5.4.2) results in the program unexpectedly quitting.
Airport hardware OK as it works with a Timecapsule [ configured that device using Airport utility via my iMac] but config is no deal on iBook.
Is there some software / firmware interaction at work here ? I am totally stumped. If no solution offered it will be a trip to London and the Genius bar but would prefer to avoid the hassle.

you could create another user account, and see if airport utility will open properly under that account. if it dose you know it's a setting issue, if it doesn't, then you know it's an app/system issue.

  • AirPort Utility software won't install on my harddrive...

I just got the 54Mbps AX as a gift. Not sure if it's the only one version available...
All I want is to play iTunes wirelessly.
I plug the stereo (RCA to mini) to the base, and plug the base into the wall. Solid amber light for a while, then flashing amber.
Meanwhile, I'm thinking I can just use Leopard's AirPort network window (from System Preferences) to connect to the base.
In the AirPort section, the Network AppleNetwork XXXXXX shows up, so I select it.
ummm and then what? Nothing happens. Amber light keeps flashing. So I messed with the 802.1X tab in the advanced section for awhile but that doesn't do anything either.
So I throw in the AX CD (version 5.1) and it refuses to install on my harddrive saying that its software is incompatible with my version of OS X.
Any suggestions or ideas? I thought this would be a plug-in-and-play thing, too. : (

Forget about the software on the CD.
Go to /Applications/Utilities and use "AirPort Utility" to configure your AirPort Express (AX).

  • Attempted to install AirPort Utility 6.0 on my new mac mini. Install failed and now the previous version 5.5.3 won't open. I downloaded and tried to instal 6.0 without software update, which failed, and my old 5.5.3 AirPort Utility still won't open? Help.

Now the previous version won't open. I downloaded and tried to instal 6.0 without software update, which failed, and my old 5.5.3 Airport Utility still won't open.
iTunes no longer recognizes my airport express.
    Error Message:
None of the selected updates could be installed.
    An unexpected error occurred.
Can't delete Airport Utility and reinstal from scratch as it is, “AirPort Utility” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X.
    Any sugestions?

I reinstalled AirPort 5.5.3 which worked, but the app still won't launch but iTunes now recognizes my AirPort Express, I just hope I don't want to change its settings.

  • Is there a manual I can PRINT for the Airport Utility Software Version 5.5.3 for Windows?

Is there a manual I can print for the Airport Utility Software Version 5.5.3 for Windows?
If there is, I can't seem to find it anywhere (in the Software, by using Google, etc).

I dont' believe there were manuals out there for different versions of the utility. That would be quite a few different manuals.
There are different manuals for the different base stations however...

  • Coverage limited after upgrading of Airport Utility software

I've recently upgraded my airport utility software to 7.41 and have been having problem since in accessing the net from my room and sitting hall (no signal) which i don't have any problem all these while. I've tried resetting the airport, re-installing the software but to no avail. It's also causing an interference to my satelite TV as well. would really appreciate if someone can hlp me out.
    Thx!

Alpha1-Mac, Welcome to the discussion area!
More than likely installing the firmware caused the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to use the "Automatic" channel selection. Most people find that frequently this does not select the best channel. Change it from "Automatic" and try channels until you find one which works better.

  • Airport Extreme base station not recognized anymore by Airport Utility software

    Hello,
I just encountered the problem today.
I have old Airport Extreme base sation (mushroom design).Picture below.
I have iMac 24". About this Mac Picture below.
Obviously, Airport Utility has been updated recently and today my network is not valid anymore, as well as the mushroom is not managed by Aiport Utility softwrare anymore. The only way to get WiFi now is using my computer as an antenna via the sharing of internet trough its WiFi card: not satisfactory.
The message of the software led directly to this support community.
The picture with the base station icon says: "this version of Airport Utility does not support this base station. To know more, check the Sevice and Support Community."
I did reset the base station may times, without success. I can't rename the base sattion, i can't create rename my network, i can't set up password access, i can't use WiFi other than the default Airport Extreme network.
Since this is not my field of knowledge, would anyone come up with a brilliant solution other than .... :
"Did Apple just manage to make you buy a new Airport base station ?."
    Thank you for your time.

    Hello,
Thank you for your reply and exlpanation.
I just downloaded the Aiport Utility 5.6.1 from Apple site. Unfortunately the OS X version is not compatible with this Airport Utility.
I don't have Time Machine neither.
Below is the message I got:
"Airport Utility cannot be installed on this hard drive. The Mac OS X version on this drive is not supported"
Is there something inbetween: a correction to Airport Utility 6.2 plug in that would accept my base station and compatible with my iMac ?.
    Thank you for your attention.

  • Airport Utility 5.3.1  running on Leopard 10.5.2 not finding APE Base

    Interesting problem...
My wireless network is working flawlessly, supporting about a half-dozen wireless devices. All of them have no trouble finding the Airport Extreme (including some new devices that were added a few weeks back).
Imagine my surprise when I ran the Airport Utility (version 5.3.1) and it reported that it can't find any base stations! This is especially strange since the Airport Utility is running on a MacBook that is hooked up wirelessly to that very APE base station.
It used to work, in fact that is what I used to setup my network with a couple months back. I suspect some recent "upgrade" has messed things up.
Any idea what it takes to have Apple's Airport Utility find Apple's Airport Extreme base station, with Apple's latest updates?

    OK, problem solved...
I was unable to see the Airport Extreme from my MacBook running Leopard 10.5.2.
I also have a Mac mini that is still using Tiger. I was able to see the Airport Extreme with that computer. It told me that I needed to update the firmware from 7.2.1 to 7.3.1.
With the APE updated (and reset as a result of the update), I was now able to find it in using my MacBook w/Leopard.
Looks like the latest Airport Utility 5.3.1 under Leopard has issues finding older firmware versions of the Airport Extreme (802.11n).

  • Latest airport utility update won't let me rename 5GHz network?

The latest airport utility update changed the name of my 5GHz network and won't let me change it back, anyone else having this problem?

You might want to take a look at AirPort Utility 5.6 for Lion. It is very similar to the previous version of AirPort Utility.
    Downloads
Yes, you can have both 6.0 and 5.6 on your Mac and choose the one that you want to use. I think you may find that while 6.0 is fun to look at, 5.6 provides a lot more functionality.

  • HMRC software won't run with Firefox - is there an easy to switch back to Int Explorer and then revert to Firefox after completing task?

Free HMRC software will not run properly as it creates tabs using the browser. HMRC technical support have confirmed I must switch back to Internet Explorer to complete the required tasks, otherwise the software will not work properly.
Is there a quick way to change default web browser without having to uninstall Firefox each time?

You can use an extension like IE Tab or IE View to use the IE rendering engine in Firefox.

  • Airport utility 6 won't let me set up a guest network

Hi I want to set up a guest network.
In previous versions of Airport utility I could simply use the manual config option to do this. In version 6 I no longer have the option. The Wireless panel doesn't have the 'Create Guest Network' option anywhere on it.
So how do I set up a guest network?

Please download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion , which provides much more functionality than AirPort Utility 6.0.
If you still don't see the Guest Network tab, your AirPort is likely set up in Bridge Mode. It needs to be set up to Share a public IP address in order for the Guest Network option to appear.
Click the Internet icon, then click the Internet Connection tab
Check the setting for Connection Sharing
You can keep both versions of AirPort Utility on your Mac, as it is not possible to remove AirPort Utility 6.0.

  • Old Ipod Software won't run iTunes 7

So I am getting ready to fly home and I had gotten a brand new ipod ( I had an old 80 gig video and got a new one!)
so I install the new Itunes 7.1 ( after uninstalling the old iTunes of course) and it tells me that it cannot update iTunes because of the Ipod software and to uninstall the software and try again.
I have uninstalled everything but when I click to uninstall the Ipod MAIN thing off of my add and removes programs.. it won't uninstall.
    What's going on?

uninstall the Ipod MAIN thing off of my add and removes programs.. it won't uninstall.
if Add/Remove won't let you remove a version of the iPod Software, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to remove the installation configuration of any entries called "ipod for windows [date]" or "ipod updater [date]".
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
restart the PC. does an itunes install go through properly after that?

  • AirPort Utility Software Update 2009-002 Causing Wireless issues?

I've tried to search for this but the only search box I can find is the one on the main title bar and that doesn't seem to work well for the discussions forums, am I just missing it? But anyway, that's not my real question.
Since the last batch of updates (inc. the one mentioned in the subject) my unibody Macbook (13") has been dropping wifi constantly, even though my netbook can still connect fine and the MB even was connecting before the updates for many months without issue. I've double-checked all the settings, tried some different settings (changed security, hide/show SSID, turned airport on and off), but no help. Today it won't even show me a list of available networks, let alone try to connect to mine. The last time it did try to connect it timed out.
I've googled a bit for this as well and found some people with similar issues but no answers, so anyone here having similar troubles?
    Cheers.

I'm going to try this later on today, but just rebooting into Safe Mode and then back into regular OS X helps? Does booting into Safe Mode change something or perform some maintenance? Either way if it works, great.

  • Desktop Software won't run - so I can't transfer from my current Bold to my new Torch 9800

I currently have desktop software operating on Microsoft XP SP2 with a Blackberry Bold. The desktop software was loaded approx 18 months ago.
I have upgraded to a Torch 9800 and wish to transfer my existing info from my Bold onto it via the desktop software. I have attempted to download the latest desktop software but ultimately it ends in a message stating that the application requires XP SP3 to run.
Are there any solutions other than upgrading my OS? An earlier version of desktop software that will work with both XP SP2 and a Torch 9800 perhaps?
    Cheers

Correct, the current Desktop Software does require WindowsXP, service pack 3.

  • TeachUComp software won't run on MacBook

Twice I have had this company send me their "Photoshop Elements Made Easty" video tutorial.  When I put it in the DVD drive, it opens with this folder but will not run.
I contacted the company and they claim that they have sold their software to Mac Users for many years.  Does anyone know why I can't seem to make it run?  What am I doing wrong?

It would appear you have software for Windows, not for a Mac. If they do not make a Mac version, then you need to run Windows in order to use the software.
Did they send you the software or did you download it? If the latter then you downloaded the wrong version.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.
