  • Is apple going to fix the boot camp problem in yosemite?

I was told to wait on my install because of loss of data problems with boot camp and Yosemite? Is apple working on this problem or do I just have to forget ever updating to Yosemite? Just kidding they probably are looking at all the time. Thanks for your time.

If you have not made any disk partition changes or resized windows or used OSX Disk Utility after Windows was installed, you are in a relatively safer position. I would highly recommend backups of both OSX and Windows with the ability to rollback, before you attempt the upgrade.

  • Boot camp not recognize keyboard and mouse when installing windows 7 pro 64 bit

    Hi,
I have some issue when installing windows 7 pro 64 bit using boot camp. after done partitioning the windows drive and when boot to windows installation process, i've got stuck in the first screen when choosing the language. it seems that the keyboard and mouse are not detected.
i'm using boot camp ver. 5.0.
does anyone have similar problem with me?

I have finally successfully installed Windows 7 x64 on MacBook Air 13.3" (2013) thru Bootcamp.
Problem:  After Windows 7 install thru BootCamp, I got to the first login screen and not input devices (Mouse, keyboard, USB) worked.   I tried to boot into Windows Safemode, but I received the error  "Windows can not complete installation in Safe Mode".
Cause:  WIndows 7 does not have native USB 3.0 drivers, included on the install images.
Resolution:  I downloaded the latest device drivers with thru BootCamp and copied them to the USB Flash Drive that had my bootable Windows 7 x64 install on it.  The second option in BootCamp is "Download Support Media".  This does more than just download drivers.  It creates a file called "autoattended.xml".  This is key as it tells Windows during the install process to use the device drivers that you download.  Otherwise, you need to do it manually, which you can't because you have no mouse or keyboard.
NOTE:  I had no need of a super drive because I had all the files on one USB flash drive.  Therefore, I don't think it matter which side of the MBA the USB drive was plugged in, as other solutions suggested.

  • Installing Windows 7 with boot camp as whole partition on 2nd internal hard drive

    Hi all,
I am unsure what is the recent changes with Apple boot camp. But when I used boot camp utilitiy on my Mac Pro (Mid 2010) to install windows 7 64 bits. It would not install and created a whole lot of problems.
After I initialise the process to install windows 7 using boot camp utilities, I chose the option to create a single partition to installl windows 7 on my secondary internal hard drive (1TB). After I restarted my Mac Pro and started the Windows 7 installation process, I was unable to install Windows 7 on the BOOTCAMP partition created by the boot camp utilitiy. I got an error something about Windows cannot be installed on the selected forum because the driver contained GPT details.
I tried to format the BOOTCAMP partition, but it ended up with errors. I tried to delete and recreate the BOOTCAMP partition in Windows setup, but failed with errors again. As I could not go any further with the Windows 7 installation, I had to hard reset my Mac Pro and tried to reboot back into Mac OS X Lion and that's when the nightmare begin.
Not only I could not boot into OS X, I could not use any of the startup key combinations (i.e. Hold option key to select start up disk, option + R to boot the lion recovery drive, not boot from any external firewire drive installed with OS X Lion). Basically none of the key combinations worked except for the holdingi F12 and mouse key to eject CD.
The only thing I could boot the Mac Pro with is the windows installation CD and Linux Ubuntu Raring Distro. I can install the ubuntu distro without any issue. However, I could not boot my mac pro back into OS X as Linux does not support bootcamp. The only way I could use Mac OS X Lion again is to delete the partition OS X Lion was installed on, and then I was be able to install Windows 7 without any issue.
After installing windows 7 I would have to download boot camp and then use the boot camp control panel to restart in the Mac Pro installation DVD and I will have to reinstall OS X again. After installing OS X, I went to System Preference and tried to select Windows 7 as startup disc. But I failed to as it says "Windows 7" Was installed via another utility. I would have to erase the partition and reinstall Windows 7 again using bootcamp utility. If I try to install windows 7 again, the horror I described above repeats again.
From my understanding, the Boot camp utility creates a new EFI bootrom with Master Boot Record (MBR) in FAT32 format. Therefore I could not boot back into Mac OS X without using boot camp in windows 7 as none of the boot combinations key worked.
I want to ask if anyone is experiencing the same issue as i do, and if there are any solutions to the problem I am experiencing. I never had such issue before. I was able to install Windows 7 on my 2ndary internal hard drive without issue using boot camp. I don't what has changed. I have googled for solution, I only found something related to XOM but nothing else.
If anyone can provide me with any help in regards to installing Windows 7 as a whole partition on a secondary internal hard drive. It'd be grealy appreciated. Thank you in advance.

If you have driver issue, just pre-download the boot camp drivers and save them on an external drive or burn them onto a cd, you will be able to load drivers via the advanced installation option during windows setup, that is if your osx partition isn't actively preventing you from installing win7 on the BOOTCAMP Partition created by boot camp assistant, I find this rather ironic, took me 3 days to figure out this issue, I was stuck without being able to boot into anything beside the windows cd, which wasn't even helpful as I could not install windows as I did not want to delete my osx partition. I lost all my data becsuse of it, as I had no idea what was going on. I tried to recover the partition using testdisk, hfsprogs and gparted in ubuntu life cd but they dont support HFS+. As I could not access osx terminal (couldn't even boot into osx installation dvd with that dreaded MBR created by boot csmp). I could not use pdisk in terminal to restore the osx partition map. Though luck for me. Called applecare and they had no idea what the problem was, and as usual they orgsnised for hard drive replacement. But it was clearly a software issue.
They will have to fix bay2 for me as I can no longer detect any hard disk connected to that bay.

  • Boot Camp nightmare, in gory detail

I recently had a very difficult time trying to install Windows on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp. Along the way, I ran into several problems. Some of these problems were documented by other users on this forum, but although I found the questions, I found no answers. Hopefully this post will provide some of the heretofore missing details.
The first problem occurred when I tried to create a partition for Windows on my hard drive using Boot Camp. I was told that the drive could not be partitioned because there were some files that could not be moved. The message box advised that I back up my data and use the Disk Utility to reformat my hard drive. This message seemed both vague and ominous.
My first reaction was to try to solve the problem by any means other than reformatting. Some others on these forums suggested repairing permissions on the hard drive, but I found this did nothing for me. In the end, the only solution was indeed to reformat the hard drive.
So how then to "back up my data"? Time Machine worked for me. I set Time Machine to make a backup of my hard drive before reformatting. I then reformatted the disk using the Mac OS 10.5 install disk. To do this, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu at the top of the screen rather than following through with the OS install wizard.
Once the drive was clean, I found that I wasn't immediately able to restore my Time Machine backup on this drive. I first had to do a "dummy install" of OS 10.5 (I selected all the default options and put in "AAA" in all the data fields to save time). Once the OS was installed, I used the Time Machine application from the Utilities menu of the OS 10.5 install disk. Everything (system, library, and user folders) seemed to be restored exactly to the state before the reformatting. Boot Camp was then able to partition the drive without any errors.
The next problem I encountered was much less documented, and proved to be insurmountable (at least for me). Boot Camp is only able to install *single disk* versions of Windows. This was an issue for me, as I had a rare 5-disk Vista Business OEM edition from my employer. I was able to find only two other references online to this problem installing the 5-disk Business version. One posting here suggests downloading a program called UltraISO and creating your own Windows install DVD by concatenating the contents of the five CDs. After paying $30 for the full version of this UltraISO program, I found that Boot Camp wouldn't recognize the homemade Windows install DVD. Because the DVD was unrecognized (even though the name was the same as that of the first install CD), Boot Camp would not shut down to begin the Windows install process. I tried to begin the installation by inserting the first of the original CDs, ejecting this CD on startup (hold down the mouse button during restart to eject a disk during startup), and inserting my DVD as quickly as possible. However, as soon as the original install CD is ejected, the system defaults to starting up Mac OS 10.5.
The second solution I found claims that it is possible to install the multi-disk Vista Business version with an external DVD drive. I bought an external drive to try it out, but alas this approach failed for me as well. I couldn't find any external drives that mentioned anything about Mac compatibility, so I bought a Memorex DVD drive that looked sufficiently spiffy. Any CD that I placed in the drive was recognized by my MacBook when the drive was connected via USB. Boot Camp was able to restart my computer when I inserted the first of the install CDs into the external drive. However, on startup, the system defaulted to the Mac OS, rather than continuing with the Windows installer.
After much time and copious consternation, I called my company and apologized that the Windows installation process had proven to be much more difficult than I anticipated. The solution? Now I log into a PC remotely using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection. I had to abandon installation of Windows Vista Business.
Apple, if you're listening, this single disk requirement seems like a fairly serious bug. At least include something in the documentation somewhere about this problem with multi-disk versions if you're not willing to make Boot Camp more robust (I found no references searching in the Support section of apple.com). I upgraded from OS 10.4.11 for the sole purpose of installing Windows for work. Now I'm out $130 for the OS upgrade, $30 for UltraISO license, not to mention lost time. I hope that this post may help some other people avoid the same hassle that I went through.

The RC version of Windows 7 won't expire until months after the formal Release to Manufacturing (RTM is said to be "late '09" at best) and activation keys are available from Microsoft online.
Windows build 7077 won't expire until Q2 2010. Plenty of time to evaluate (which is its intended purpose and audience). For me, there is no going back.
*Windows 7 Release Candidate confirmed for May 5 release*
Remember that Microsoft page that said that a Windows 7 RC would be public available on May the 5th? Turns out it was dead on, as the Redmond-based company have written a blog post confirming it. http://www.neowin.net/news/
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows7/Home
    http://windows7news.com/
Just for the record, I reinstalled Vista a number of times, as I learned more and it changed - trial and error, reading, books, online forums, as it moved from RC to release, from poor or lack of support and drivers, to where Vista is now, and yet Windows 7 has eclipsed all of that. And experimented.
Some of my hardware would cause BSOD, which even led to a disk drive that would never allow a working install. Installed fine, but after the first huge update, it would BSOD and it took days of retrying, swapping mice, keyboards, video cards to make sense of it. A year to fully clear that mystery.
I've seen people report problems with valid discs for XP, and sometimes they tried to burn the disc to new media in OS X, sometimes only a trip to Newegg for a new proper copy worked, sometimes lack of hardware driver support, out of date.
People here will help, if you meet them halfway.

  • Boot Camp Assistant thinks I'm booting from an external (not the case!)

OK, long story short, I had Vista installed via boot camp, I'm going back to XP now. Problems arose and Boot Camp refused to let me restore the partition in order to start over.
Here's what I did. I completely wiped the three drives I have installed in the Mac Pro — Completely: zeroed them out. RAIDed the two 500GB drives together like I've always had them. The 250GB (which has been in the past, and will be again, my boot camp drive) is left blank for the time being. I installed 10.5 onto the RAID pair. No problems so far. The moment I got to my desktop after installation I open Boot Camp Assistant. I click continue and it gives me the message I got before:
"*You cannot partition an external disk drive.*
Restart your computer using your computer's internal startup disk."
Awesome. I don't even have any external drives attached.
Any idea why I'm getting this? I've been struggling for the last week trying to figure this out.
Here's a shot of the message along with a system profiler window with my hard drive details:

    Thanks for your insight,
    Sean

I almost never use BootCamp Assistant and don't find it that useful.
I will say that I would never, ever, RAID un-like drives and it seems you have Maxtor and Samsung for your RAID.
I would only use Seagate if it was OEM, maybe, or a .11 new series.
I assume you have 10.5.1+ and while I can't claim to have read even 10% or the threads in the Leopard forum, I can't recall hearing of the error you have with repair permissions, though I would always do so while booted from your boot drive, not from the DVD and 10.5.0 (I wasn't going to buy Leopard until it came out on a later version DVD, 10.5.0 is just "too early" for me).
I always had to pull OS X system when I installed Vista x64.
Not sure why, I don't think zeroing the drives was necessary to remove any and all partitions, though.

  • HT4818 I can't install drivers Nvidia Geforce GT120 Boot camp windows 7

I was using windows vista in Boot Camp, but now I installed windows 7. My problem is I can't install the drivers of the Graphic card  Nvidia Geforce GT120 using the CD drivers. However, I tried to download directly from the webpage Nvidia.com/drivers but at the moment to running the installation assistants, it doensn't detec any graphic hardware.
    Please help me!
    Thank you!

I can solve my problem! I used a programme called 3dchip that helps to the computer to recognize and install drivers!
Thank you mende1 for your time.

  • How do I burn an .ISO from MSDN that Boot Camp will recognize?

Hello, I have a developers license that allows me to download the Windows 7 installers from the MSDN site in .ISO form. I can't seem to burn any of the installers to a disc that Boot Camp assistant will recognize as an installer DVD.
I have read and followed ALL of the solutions and still can not burn a recognizable disc. I have followed the IMGBURN instructions while in Parallels running Windows too.
Does anyone know how to create a compatible Boot Camp installer disc from the ISO's available on the MSDN network for Windows 7, preferably the 64-bit English Ultimate version?
I have tried the following instructions while in Windows 7 running in Parallels but they are either inaccurate or poorly written. If you have used these instructions with success, please translate into plain english because it just doesn't work in the VM I used.
    1. Insert Windows Install disc into DVD drive
    2. Using the build mode of imgburn, go to the advanced tab, then bootable disc and then select your DVD folder +--(saw that correction)+ in the extract boot image drop down list . Go ahead and extract the boot image and store it somewhere on your hard drive +(where is the extract button?)+
    3. Go to the information tab and add your DVD drive as the source file
    4. Options tab, check that file system is ISO9660 + IDF and UDF revision is 1.02 (should be anyway by default)
    5. Go to Advanced tab, sub tab Restrictions and further sub tab ISO9660: Set Folder / File length to Level X and tick the four check boxes at the bottom (allow more than 8 directory levels, Allow more than 255 characters in path, Allow files without Extensions, Don’t Add ‘;1’ Version number to Files. (Note it’s this bit that actually solves the problem the rest is effectively just duplicating the existing disc)
    6. Move to the bootable disc tab: Click the tick box to make the image bootable, emulation type to “none (custom)” and the browse and select the boot image you previously extracted from the windows disc. Finally set Sectors to load to 4.
    7. Click the big create iso button to create the bootable iso. +(there is no big 'create' button, there is a build button though)+
    8. And use that iso to burn a new install disc.
    --THANKS, searching for the solution.

When I had boot issues with CDs, I would use BCD and create a bootable disc rather quickly. http://www.nu2.nu/bcd/ I can't verify that it works with Vista or Win 7, but you'd have to try it yourself. Very easy to use and hadn't failed me in the past.

  • Windows partition will not open using Boot Camp on iMac 10.9.5

OS:  27" desktop iMac, Maverick 10.9.5, 8 GB RAM
HD Partions:  iMac OS X, Windows 7,  Boot Camp
For some unknown reason I am having problems getting Windows 7 to open after starting up in Boot Camp, and it's getting progressively worse. After starting Boot Camp I select the Windows 7 partition and either click on that icon or press "Return/Enter". This is where everything freezes and I have to shut down and reboot again into Boot Camp to try again. Sometimes it works, other times not. I've already tried 8 times tonight but can't get into the Windows 7 partition. The OS X partition and everything else is working fine and I have all of my updates.
Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

I am trying to boot into an existing W7. When I turned on the computer this morning I booted straight into Boot Camp and then successfully went into W7 with no problems, never going into the OS X partition. I later rebooted straight into OS X (the default startup) and read your comments.
I entered the four lines of commands you suggested in Terminal and this is what I got...

  • No internet in OS X - okay in Parallels & Boot Camp

My internet connection was fine on both my Mac mini and my Windows box, then a week ago my Linksys WRT54G router died and I replaced it with a WRT54GS router - - no software or system changes were made. My Windows box works fine, but……...
On my Mac mini using WinXP under Parallels or Boot Camp I can get an internet connection with no problem, but under OS X I cannot get an internet connection. This tells me that all of the hardware (modem, router, cables, Mac mini) is good, so it must be a setting in the Mac Mini or the router and the Mini are not compatible.
Linksys and my ISP's tech support people have spent a lot of unproductive time trying to fix this, but after trying three different T.S. people at each place I'm left feeling that they know very little about Macs.
I took my Mac mini and Linksys router to the local Apple Store, and they were unable to resolve the problem.
Next I exchanged the router and everything worked, but starting yesterday the Mini would not connect to the router under OS X, but is fine with Windows under Parallels or Boot Camp. No settings have been changed.
I’m a new switcher from PCs and don’t have a clue about how to proceed.

Thanks for the quick response BDAqua.
Yes, I’ve deleted the previous Preferred Networks.
Both computers are wired to the router.
I think that you’ve hit the nail on the head about the router firmware. I’m not sure, but I don’t think that I tried getting on the internet under OS X after updating the firmware to 1.50.9 until yesterday when it would not work.
Just now I exchanged the non-working router for yet another WRT54GS and it works fine under OS X and WinXP with firmware 1.50.6.
I guess that the next step will be to get a Linksys tech person on the phone and then do the firmware update and see if that causes the router to not work with OS X.
I’ve been a PC user since before the IBM PC - - and bought the Mac Mini as an evaluation box. I’d like to replace my Windows machine with a Mac Pro, but only if it will run with no problems. The Mini has been great using Boot Camp and pretty good using Parallels, but if it won’t connect to the internet under OS X it will be difficult (or impossible) to get Apple updates.

  • Boot Camp Manager Must Close

I am a Boot Camp Beta user with Windows XP. I upgraded to Leopard and installed the new drivers from the Leopard disc. Everything seemed fine, except for a pop-up window saying that new hardware had a problem and might not work correctly. But the Boot Camp icon showed in the taskbar and everything seemed OK.
However, on the second startup after installation I received an error message that Boot Camp Manager had to close, and no icon (even Bluetooth) appeared in the task bar.
I tried repairing the drivers, and reinstalling them, all to no avail.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem with the Windows Boot Camp drivers?

I was called by a user who had same trouble... "Boot Camp Manager encountered a problem and needs to close"
For this one, the problem was Spy Sweeper. Only fix I could find was leaving that uninstalled.
I tried, among other things, turning off the Spy Sweeper's "Shield" for Startup Items. That had no benefit; Same trouble with Boot Camp Manager upon startup.
    I did the following:
    - uninstalled Trend Micro's AV
    - uninstalled Spy Sweeper
    (no other anti-malware loaded)
    - Inserted the Boot Camp 1.4 drivers CD and ran "Repair"
    - No problems on restarts.
    - loaded Trend Micro's AV 2007 back onto Boot Camp.
    No problems upon multiple restarts.
    - Loaded Spy Sweeper (CD was labeled with version 0706-FA-1287), ran the updates during install, and during its final stage of install reported that I didn't need to restart.
    - clicked "Finish"
    - Then after clicking the "Finish button the install dialog went away and I received a dialog reporting that Spy Sweeper had a problem and a restart is required.
    - restarted.
    - Upon restart, no problem with Boot Camp Manager
    - Restart on final time just to verify that Boot Camp and everything else is loading properly.
    - NO. Boot Camp Manager now reporting AGAIN that it "has encountered a problem and needs to close."
Therefore, it seems to be the Spy Sweeper that's causing the problem.

  • Boot Camp "downdate"?

Sorry if this question is completely silly but I still need to ask it: can I "downdate" from Boot Camp 3.2 to 3.1?
Several months ago I installed Windows 7 64-bit and updated from Boot Camp 3.0 to 3.1. No problem with Windows on Boot Camp. Then I installed Parallels 5 and everything seemed to work fine - no problem with a virtual machine for Windows on Boot Camp.
About 2 weeks ago I updated Boot Camp from 3.1 to 3.2 (using Windows natively on Boot Camp). Windows on Boot Camp seems to work fine - I do not see any problems whatsoever. There is, however, a problem with the virtual machine for Windows on Boot Camp - the sound level is very low. I have checked and tried many things but all in vain. Can I download Boot Camp 3.1 to check if this "solves" the problem?

Thanks for your reply. My reply is late because we are out of phase due to different locations.
Why aren't you using Parallels 6?
I've been using PD 5 since mid-August and there was no real reason to jump on PD 6 released in mid-September. If I add PD 6 to my system now it could add another unknown to the puzzle.
Yes, you can uninstall programs and also drivers in Windows.
I'm aware of that but I'm not sure about the possible consequences of uninstalling the BOOTCAMP program. If Windows stops working (hardware or software problem) after removing Bootcamp I won't be able to download BC 3.1 - can you comment on that? I thought that perhaps it would be "safer" to download BC 3.1 but this would be a "downdate" - also dangerous, even if possible - could you comment on that as well? Which way, if any, would you go? I know the safe way: start from scratch - but I'm not ready for that yet.
Some prefer to use those 'restore points' to just restore the system back to previous state.
Too late to set a restore point back to Nov 20. Too many things (install/uninstall) have happened since then. I regret that I didn't try to do it earlier.
Maybe uninstall the audio device manager and troubleshoot that, and reinstall the 3rd party driver manually that it requires.
I think I did everything I possibly could with AMD-8111 AC'97 Audio Controller Driver (the only driver under Sound, video and game controllers). I also replaced it with Realtek AC 97 Audio Driver for Windows 7 downloaded from Softpedia. Realtek worked but the sound was at the same low level. I tried to install two Realtek High Definition Audio Drivers available under Device Manager => Add legacy hardware but was getting this message: "The software for this device is now installed, but may not work correctly. This device cannot start. (Code 10)" - due to whatever reason they do not work in a virtual machine.
Mac sound is perfect and so is Windows natively on Bootcamp but the virtual machine for Windows on BC has somehow been corrupted as if some kind of attenuation was on. At 100% sound level on VM I get a sound volume that corresponds to about 15% of the sound level on Windows natively on BC. I created a new VM for Windows on BC - all in vain. Before I uninstall and reinstall Parallels (not sure about Parallels reactivation yet - perhaps you know something about that?) I would like to see if BC 3.1 would make any difference so please send your comments. Thanks very much.

  • Boot Camp Upgrade

I have an IMAC running Parallels 6.0. My original set up was a single Vista load that was used both for boot camp and Parallels. This worked great with no problems.
I then created a Win 7 VM with Parallels that I have been using for about six months and this has worked fine also. So I have a Vista VM a Win 7 VM and a Vista Boot Camp.
My question, is there anything I can do to use the Win 7 as my boot camp machine? I would like it to be the same machine Win 7 machine under boot camp and Parallels.
    Thanks for any help... Bill

    Hi Bill,
yes, you can upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.
    Have a look/read here on this http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/win7upgrade03.asp
To my knowledge and from what the Parallels guy posted in the other thread, they don't provide any kind of tools for going from VM to BootCamp.
For the other direction, from BootCamp to VM, they have their Transporter program.
Windows itself has its "Windows Easy Transfer" for backing up settings and data, though.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Boot Camp - XP works, but can't log back into OSX, any one else get this?

So I went through setting up XP on my 2.0 ghz Macbook and everything went smoothly. I have been running various programs in xp, and all the drivers for wireless, brightness control, etc work great. The problem i have is that now i cann't get the computer to start up in OSX. On startup it wants to load XP, so i hold down alt/option until i see the screen with the two harddrive images (one is the Macintosh HD, the other is Windows XP). I select the Mac and it goes to the apple startup screen, then after like 10 min it changes to a blue background and finally i get a cursor, but then after waiting for nearly half an hour, there is no progress. anyone else getting this? any ideas? i'm typing this message from Windows, which still works fine.

Ahh, the dangers of Windows :P j/j
Check the Boot Camp forums, I think there are others having this problem. You might try your OS X recovery disc that came with the computer.
I'd suggest all those with Boot Camp stuff post in that forum, probably get lots more responses!
