Album artwork confusion

I'm having trouble with the album artwork when I'm in iPod mode on my iPhone. The individual files are all tagged properly, and in cover flow they show properly, but when I am playing music it almost always shows the wrong cover artwork. What's up with that?

I do all my tagging/updating manually for just that reason - I tried using the missing artwork feature once, but a lot of my collection are things that I've ripped off vinyl, and many of them haven't been released on CD... so for instance, a punk compilation called "The **** Factory" got artwork for some caribbean "hit factory" K-Tel release...
So, the answer is 'no'. The proper artwork is all there, and in iTunes it works fine. I checked for multiple artworks on a bunch of songs and there was nothing fishy going on there. When I've got the iPhone in iPod mode & I'm playing music (with the phone vertically oriented) I see the wrong artwork about 50% of the time (and the 'wrong' artwork is always from one of my other songs). When I flip it horizontally to cover flow I see the correct artwork again.
It's not a HUGE deal, as the music plays fine and I rarely look at the artwork while I'm listening to it, but having just spent $300 on this thing I'd like it to work properly.

  • Why is my album artwork suddenly missing?

I appologize that this has been asked before but I am so confused as to why there don't seem to be any answers on here that reliably solve the problem. Is iphone technology really that complicated and mysterious? I feel like it's about to become self aware or something.
Anyway, my album art on my iphone 4s seems to have suddenly gone missing. But not in a predictable way. It seemed like it started when I had to unplug my phone during a recent sync. I have been reimporting my albums and I was syncing the latest batch to the phone and underestimated how much time it would take. Or possibly it was hung up on one of the steps. Honestly I'm not totally sure. But I noticed the albums I had just recently modified still had art but a lot of the rest was gone. To clarify, however, at that time some of the album art was totally missing and some was only missing in the album view. When I clicked on the albums or played them the art would be there.
I discovered that deleting the albums one (or several) at a time and resyncing seemed to bring them back but then my usb cable got bumped and the sync interrupted and it started all over. So I finally just manually deleted all the music and resynced. Which took about 22 hours. But not all of the art was back that time.
I have since tried hard resetting, converting the id3 tags to that higher number that is suggested and resyncing, restoring to an earlier date before this started happening. To no avail.
I have over 7000 songs all with meticulously picked out album art. Some is from itunes and the stuff that was wrong or didn't have any I got from the web. I realize it's a not so important problem but it's really not just about OCD. It's easier for me to pick out what I want to listen to when I see the artwork.
Frankly, I wish the recently added and the purchased playist would arrange by album so I could look at the covers. But that's a separate issue.
Anyway, currently I have maybe 10% of my art showing and what's not there is completely gone rather than just the thumbnail missing. Some of it is from albums I downloaded and some I found on google. And it seems everytime I do something new, different art is missing.
It's just so bizarre and random.
I would really like to figure out why this is happening. Is there no high upper big cheese who might know? I'm pretty certain the apple store would be of no help to me, as they have yet to solve a single technical problem I've come in with in the past.
I've briefly considered itunes match due to the fact that my collection is now even larger in volume since I reimported the whole CD collection (I had a lot of corrupted, skipping songs) which were mostly in 128 from the original import long ago, and it no longer would all fit on the phone. I have been converting to the 192 bit rate to sync but I believe that is why it takes so long. When I synced some selected playlists without converting it took about 12 times less time than it would have if I had converted.
Anyway I'm just a little put off by the thought of paying to listen to my own music (AGAIN - I already bought the phone for that privelege and the songs themselves) which I might not have access to at all times (subject to cell/wireless service), possibly having to download those songs to the phone before listening (???), and that my album art, from what I've read, would likely still not be correct. If anyone has any better information I'm interested to hear it.
Or some ideas of how to maintain access to all my well organized music despite the size. I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed that one day apple santa will bring us a 128gb phone which will solve one of my problems at least. For now I'd just like the art back the way it was a couple weeks ago.

Try unchecking "display album artwork" in the music preferences section when your iPod is connected and click "apply". Then sync your iPod.
Then check "display album artwork" in the music preferences section when youd iPod is connected and click "apply". Then sync your iPod again.
This should resync the album artwork to the iPod.
If this does not work, you might need to restore the iPod and reload the songs in order to correct this error.
See: How to restore the iPod to factory settings.

  • Album Artwork not Showing for iTunes Backup

A friend of mine has contacted me with a question that I've ran out of ideas to try.  He has an iTunes library where the media files are located on an external disk (formatted HFS+) and he is using a second external drive -- also HFS+ -- for backup (he is currently just copying the files -- I've told him about time machine, but that's a different topic).    When he looks at the music files in finder, he sees the album artwork.  However, the same is not true on the backup drive.
If I understand the iTunes file layout correctly. Artwork is stored in the same folder as the database files and the media files (music in this case) reference the artwork path.  I'm a little confused on why that reference wouldn't work on the backup drive, but it does on the media drive (assuming they are both plugged into the computer where the database/artwork is stored).
    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance!

The covers should show, as soons your short albums will contain more tracks. When your "Summer Sessions EP" has at least five tracks, the cover should be displayed as well, like for your "Conception" album, for there will be enough space for it.
    Regards

Updated to latest I-Tunes. Since then whenever I import a new cd to the library it does not get the album artwork. Automatically download missing album artwork is enabled in Preferences but the art work still does not appear in my library?

I'm having the same problem as the OP, I can't find that file "profiles.ini"
can't re-install firefox, deleted all files related to Mozilla and Firefox, still locked out by missing Firefox profile
I posted on my own problem recently w/ no response (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/search?a=1&asked_by=GPStyne&w=2),
so far all posts on this support page have been confusing and I've been unable to find any of the things they spoke of trying to change it.
at this point I'm begrudgingly running Safari hoping someone can help me fix this, can't believe i can't just delete all and reinstall like a normal program/app

  • ITunes 7- Can't add album artwork

Lotta dsicussion about this topic, but I haven't seen my particular problem come up. When I try to manually add album artwork nothing happens. I've seen other people say they couldn't get it to work when they just dragged the artwork, but I can't get it to work when I crt+click and get info either. When I get info and paste the artwork into the box, the image shows up, but when I click okay, nothin happens. I make sure the checkbox beside the artwork is checked before I hit Okay.
Apple's automatic get album artwork worked pretty well, but only found about 80% of my albums. Pretty good considering the weird crap I listen to, but I'm pretty anal, and if 80% is gonna have artwork I want the rest to also.
Would the problem be that my library is on an external HD?
Is the problem that my computer (G3 ibook, 640MB SDRAM, OSX 10.4.7) is getting on in years? I can't think of any other ways to tell it to get the artwork, any help would be much appreciated!!

For files that won't let you change their artwork, there are two primary things you can check.
Firstly, make sure that the file is writable. If it is on a volume where permissions are managed, make sure you can write to both the file and the folder it is contained in. Select the file in iTunes, command-R, then use Get Info in the Finder to set the file/folder write access if necessary.
Next make sure the Creator and Type of the file isn't set to an iTunes unfriendly type. I know this was an issue in previous versions of iTunes. For example, for an mp3 file Creator=hook Type=MPG3. I know this sounds like stupid advice, setting resource fork information when Apple is telling us to stay away from using resource forks in OS X. iTunes apparently hasn't heard the news.
Perhaps adding album artwork to a file on an external volume is acting like the funny behavior of adding artwork to files on iPods. You apparently can't do it directly, but instead have to stage the artwork adding action on the volume which contains your iTunes Music folder, place the files in a temporary LIBRARY based playlist in iTunes, then drag copy the files from this playlist into the target iPod DEVICES playlist.
It is no longer clear to me what actions constitute an embed artwork action (place associated artwork inside the ID3 tag area of the file itself) versus an attach artwork action (place associated artwork in a separate artwork folder). This is extremely confusing stuff for an application that begins with a lower case i.

  • OS5.1 forced album artwork screen saver on me.  How do I get rid of it?

I just loaded the newest OS for the Apple TV.  I use my own photos for my screen saver.  But the new OS has forced album artwork into my photo rotation.  All I see is album artwork.  I dont want that.  Anyone know how to get rid of it?  There is no on/off with that option in the screen saver menu.

    Tophipherous,
I was confused too because i did not see the "My Computers" option that the jmfindley referenced. Here is how I was able to solve this problem on my Apple TV (5.1.1)
On the main screen go to "Photo Stream"
    Select "Settings"
If any photo streams are currenty signed on (linked to the Apple TV) select "Sign Out"
Then, sign back on using the apple ID associated with Photo Stream you want to see displayed through your Apple TV. It should start building the library slowly on the screen, the number of photos will increment upwards a few at a time.
Finally, double check that your screensaver settings are correct (this happened automatically for me). On the home screen go into "Settings". Under "Screen Saver" check that the Photos option is now set to "My Photo Stream"
    Hope this helps.

  • Album artwork screen saver gone

I have done some research, but am confused.  The album artwork is no longer showing up (black screen) as my screen saver.  I am now using a new iMac Mountain Lion.  BUT, I did do a full install from my old iMac so whatever the issue is in iTunes is still there.
    Thanks

    I have exactly the same.
Screensaver settings says: "Your iTunes library does not contain any songs with artwork" which is simply lie! ;-)
    almost all artwork is there
    newest iTunes 10.5.3 (3) 64-bit
    Lion with all add-ons
not long ago I have joined iTunes Match.. unfortunately haven't checked if it works before for long time..
I have: repaired permissions, removed com.apple.screensaver. iTunesArtwork* in ~Library/Preferences/ByHost/.
    Still nothing.
I have found that ~/Music/iTunes/Album Artwork/ has 4 directories inside:
    Cache
    Cloud
    Download
    Local
.. first 3 had random named dir (the same) with what seems to be artworks directories. Local was empty still copying there this random dir didn't help too..
    Any ideas please?

  • What exactly does the folder "Album Artwork" contain/do?

In the iTunes Library folder is a sub-folder called "Album Artwork". I am wondering what this folder is actually for? Does it save the actual artwork? It only contains itc files, so how would this work? If this is true, why are artworks not embedded in the actual song file?
As you can see , I am confused and would greatly appreciate any input!
    Thanks!

3.5Gb??? How big is your library? My entire Album Artwork folder is less than 1% of the size of my iTunes Music folder. If yours is significantly larger then perhaps the artwork folder contains the remnants of multiple libraries. Each of the Download and Cache folders contains a single folder with the same GUID which is connected to my Library. A new library would have a new GUID so presumably a different set of folders. If you have more that one set of folders of this type then delete those which are inactive. Alternatively wipe the entire lot and rebuild it from your embedded art or the store.
"Unembedding" art isn't simple as there is no way to manually link to the download folder. If iTunes doesn't find a match you are limited to embedding art that you paste in and you can't get iTunes to look for store art if the file already has some, so you run the risk of throwing away what you have and having to find it again just to see if iTunes can do it for you.

  • HT1386 Album artwork doesn't transfer since upgrade iOS?

Anyone can you help? I "upgraded" to iOS 6.01, now my album artwork will not transfer with my music to my iPod touch.

When you download artwork from the iTunes store, it is stored in the iTunes folder in the Album Artwork folder, not in the song file.
If you paste in artwork from another source, it is stored in the song file. So there are two systems which can be confusing
So if you are transfering your iTunes library to another computer, you need to take the whole iTunes folder as well as the iTunes Music folder. This ensures you have the library databses and artwork folder.

  • Why doesn't my album artwork show?

last night i turned on my iPod, only to see that all my album artwork had disappeared! i had used my ipod earlier in the day and it had been fine, then connected it to the computer and it was all gone...i'm confused, shouldn't the computer fix the problem? please help

Is the software on the Touch up to date - 1.1.4?
If so, you likely have to restore - but don't use the backup when the process begins, use as a "new iPod"
If your software is older, try updating first.

  • Wrong album artwork syncing to iPhone

on my Mac and from what I've seen on my iPad as well the right album artwork displays but on my iPhone it seems to like mix up the artwork on some songs, some downloaded from iTunes, some ripped from a CD, like I might have a song from Adele but on the iPod and also on the lock screen it will show maybe the artwork of Jack Johnson! I mean its not a big deal but does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thank you

It gives you the ability to use multiple computers to manually add your own music, i.e. music you have legitimately acquired, to your iPod. For example, I have 2 computers, I manually manage my music on my iPod Classic so I can hook it up to my MacBook Pro and put songs on that I don't have on my Mac Pro.
I also has a car that will go much faster than the speed limit. Just because it gives me that ability does not allow me to drive 120 mph on a local street.

  • Album artwork is in iTunes but it does not show up on my iPhone, how do I fix this?

I like to have all my albums have artwork so on my iTunes I made sure that they do. Everyone of my albums have artwork in iTunes but when i sync my iPhone none of them show up.

This same thing happened to me, so I plugged my iphone into the computer and I unchecked all the songs so it deleted from my phone and then i rechecked sync music back to the phone and all the album artwork were there.

  • ITunes keeps resetting and asking me if I want to download album artwork!

Hi, it seems as though every time I open iTunes these days the stupid window pops up asking if I want it to automatically download album artwork. I click "No, blah blah blah." And then iTunes opens. At the left is the "Download" option thing (in green under the "Store" section), when I click it, a window pops up saying "Would you like iTunes to check if you have any unfinished downloads?" or something like that. I say, again (and of course) "No."
The "Download" button subsequently goes away and that is all that happens. But it happens repeatedly, every time I open the program! Obviously these settings are not saving--and it seems to be even more of a fundamental problem than that, perhaps some file is corrupted somewhere.
    Any thoughts?

Same here. And it doesn't seem to matter which way
you answer the question, it just keeps asking.
HOWEVER -- I had not seen this post before I restored 6:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=531850&tstart=0
If anyone could report if this solves the "won't remember the download art" setting, please let us know.

  • How Can I sync iTunes album artwork with album folders on my Mac

    Small Issue,
I just got a new macbook pro and uploaded copied the iTunes music folder from my PC, to an external hard drive then to the "music" folder in the Finder on my Mac.  I then went into iTunes and added my library via the "add music" link (or something like that)
All the music upload and most of the album artwork was missing.  I clicked "Get Album Artwork" and it replaced most of the album artwork
Here is the issue I need help with...
Some of the albums, which have album artwork inside iTunes, do not have album artwork if I go to the album folder in the finder.  Is there anyway to get this artwork to sync up with the folder?
I ask because, I am kinda anal and like the artwork to show up if I play a song from the spotlight (I like playing music that way)
Am I going to have to manually add the album artwork into the finder folders?

    Hi bill,
Here's an Apple Support article that tells you how to restore your IOS device from a previous backup on iTunes:

    Hope this helps!
