Alert sound every time I use the command key

Hi, I thought I'd try posting a new topic in case anyone's found the solution for this (I hope!).
Ever since updating to Snow Leopard, everyone in my office is getting an alert sound (in my case, "funk") whenever we do a shortcut using the "command" key, eg. "command-n", "command-s", "command-w", "command-q", etc.
It's very annoying, and no one can find a way to turn it off. We've simply had to turn our overall volume down to 0, but of course that doesn't work if you want to listen to music with headphones.
It was never an issue with previous versions of OS X, but as soon as we all upgraded every one of us had this issue. Has anyone else?

Okay, so I came up with a workaround... not a solution to the root of the problem, but a workaround.
I made an AIFF file that's one second of silence, saved it as Silence.aiff and placed it in my System > Library > Sounds folder.
Then I went to the Sound System Preferences, and changed my main alert sound to "Silence".
The only problem with that is any time you would normally want to hear the alert sound you won't hear anything, for example when a dialog box pops up asking you if you want to save before quitting. But any other sounds are still just fine.

The disk drive in my iMac 8,1 has stopped working, so I now use an LG 8x Slim Portable that works. However, every time I use the LG drive, I lose contact with my Time Machine back-up drive that has to be deleted and reinstalled. Help!

It's not Logic that can't find them, it's your Komplete apps, though if you did exaclty as you say I can see no reason why they can't.
Do you know where the apps installed them in the first place? I chose a non-standard locarion for mine, but I'm sure it installs sounds to your documents folder/native instruments/name of app.
Go into the prefs of each app and choose the library location button on the library tab and point it to the relevant folder in documents/native instruments and see if that works

We have Cox internet on a wireless router.
It doesn't seem to be able to hold the wireless connection.....even a couple hours.
The router sits on the desk next to the computer.

I don't have any trouble connecting to the internet once I choose our network from the choices.
The computer just can't remember it.

Router reboots every time i use the txt app in iphone 3gs

I have a netgear cgd24g router and it reboots only every time i use the text free app in my iphone 3gs. First i felt weird and stated to google this problem. I found people having somwhat same kind of problem with other brands and had suggested few solutions, like resetting it, changing it to a ascii security code with a $, upadating the firmware of the router etc. I have done everything but i still have the same problem. I have 2 laptops and a desktop (no wireless in desktop) nothing is wrong when all three are working together. I even tried adding two more laptops and nothing is wrong. But as soon as i open the text free app and start texting the router reboots like in resetting it. The problem is only with the txt free app. Nothing happen when i browse thru safari or use youtube etc. But wen i use the txt free app the light goes off and comes back on one by one. I even went to the extent of asking my friend to download the app in his iphone and tried it using my wifi , the same thing happened. i even switched out the old netgear router with a new one and the same thing is happening. I am tried of this. CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE ?????

yes i have tried everything from changin the security type to checking the firmware version. The firware version was the latest so i didnt have to update it. About changing the router, i did switch the old netgear cgd24g to a brand new netgear cgd24g. The brand was same because that is what my service provider would give me. I like the sugestion about trying it with a different router and see if the problem persists. If the problem is gone then i will get another one. This will help me figure out where the problem is.

I think my mac is infected with a virus, every time I use the internet pop up pages appear constantly what should I do?

I think I may have accidentally opened an email attachment which was fake. Ever since I did this my mac constantly opens pop up pages with ads every time I click the mouse. I have checked in preferences and it says pop up pages are blocked but still they keep appearing. How do I stop this?

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Reconnecting Referenced Files...every time I use the program! Help!

Every time I use Aperture, regardless of any outside variables I change, it inevitably unlinks nearly all the photos in my library, or will keep a third linked with no rhyme or reason. I've tested every variable I can think of, stopped using spaces, sent heated emails to our friends at Apple...nothing seems to make a difference. The program is a technological equivalent of a brick 50% of the time I open it.
These photos are on my main hard drive, not an external disk that gets put to sleep. This problem has occurred while I was in the middle of using the program, switched to finder, switched back.
Has anyone else had a problem with Referenced Files coming unlinked? Or Can anyone suggest an alternative program to Aperture that actually works?

Ok, two things I've figured out with 10.5 and Aperture:
- If you use Spaces, it will eventually cause your referenced images to become unlinked.
- If you hide or minimize Aperture, it will eventually unlink the album you are working on, and eventually your entire library. Sometimes this problem can be fixed simply by restarting Aperture, but other times, if you let it sit for too long or your computer goes to sleep in this way, your whole library may come unlinked.
I (so far) haven't had any problems with this since I stopped hiding the application. It is a bug, but at least in my case I'm able to work around it by always keeping the window open if the application is open.

I never spilled anything on it, as I'm pretty OCD about my MBA, but I think you're on the right track. I fixed it by pressing the command key on the right side of the board. Maybe some dust or other stuff underneath the other key preventing it from making contact. Thanks!

How can I prevent a new tab being created every time I hit the Home Key in Firefox 4?

I recently installed Firefox 4. I have it set to open two tabs, Google and Yahoo, for my homepage. When I open a new site in either of them the tab assumes the name of the new site. At the end of my search I hit the Home Key to return to my two original tabs. My two original tabs appear, but so does an additional tab...a duplicate of one of the original two. Each time I hit the Home Key another tab is created. This is annoying and I would like to know how to prevent it from happening. Thanks.

Using the command key wont move file

when i click and hold the command key and try to move any folder to another location, it copies file.

To Move the file or folder from the source drive to the destination drive, click and hold down the mouse button on the file or folder. The file or folder will be highlighted. Then, while holding the control button on your keyboard, drag the file or folder from the source drive window to the destination drive window and let go of the mouse button. The file or folder will disappear from the source drive and will now only be found on the destination drive.

I HAVE TIS NOISE IN MY IMAC AND IT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE THE FAN BUT A SWOOSHING FRYING SOUND THAT LASTS FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS BUT NOT EVERY TIME I USE THE IMAC. LIKE THIS TIME, I'M ON IT FOR 45 MIN. & IT DID NOT HAPPEN. ?? WHAT IS IT ?

I have had this imac for one year and 2 mos. recently I hear a swooshing noise like speakers are frying when I power up and again intermittantly which lasts about only a few second and quiets down by itself. I have mt portable DVD drive unplugged, I turn down the volumn on the imac but it makes no difference.
I don't have applecare so I guess I should take it to the local apple store in Santa Monica ffor them to check it out. But it could be that it wont do it when you expect it to happen ???

Infinity connection drops every time I use the lan...

So I've discussed this on here before with no joy (https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/connection-drops-every-time-I-get-a-call-on... and I've tried swapping out all the equipment with no success. It is driving us mad now....we have to unplug the landline if we're going to use the Internet for a protracted period, just in case!
Advice please: where do I go from here? When I use the broadband section to report a fault I end up in a dead-end of self-help docs.
Do I report it as a phone line problem (and pay for an engineer to visiit) even though the phone line tests out OK?

Well, that will teach me to be so optimistic..
So I'm now £129 lighter and using a new line...and the broadband doesn't drop out everytime the phone rings..
BUT it drops out periodically all the time now.. AND the speed is much less than before (I get 30 Mbps on a good day..15 Mbps is typical ,and it was less than 10 Mbps today before it dropped out completely). This may sound churlish to some but I work from home sometimes and the drop in speed, coupled with the frequent disconnections, is making it unworkable...
So I've reported the fault and despite the very nice Indian woman telling me that '15 Mbps is typical for wireless' after going through a very lengthy script, I am not happy. Wireless/Wired = makes no difference..I've tried...
Since its worse than before I've asked whether than can switch me back to my old line..the call raised on the 11th was marked as resolved today although I've still no resolution even though I was promised an answer within 24 hours..and have been promised that again today...and nobody rings me on my contact number that I give them (and is in my MyBT profile) but spurious 'we tried to contact you' messages are left on my home answerphone while I'm at work...
