All of the "open new tab" operators have ceased to function. How do I reinstate them?

All of the "buttons", "keystrokes", operations, etc. that "open a new tab" have ceased functioning. How do I reinstate them?

Uninstall the '''''Ask Toolbar'''''. It can cause that problem.

  • I have 9.0.1 on 2 pc's, both xp sp3. On 1 the 'open new tab' button is visible, on the other, the 'open new tab' button is not even available in the 'customize toolbar' menu for dragging and dropping. Why?

I used the same installation file, but on 1 pc, the 'open new tab' button is available in the 'customize toolbar' menu and can be dragged and dropped onto the navigation bar. On the other pc, the 'open new tab' button/icon is not even available for dragging and dropping. I uninstalled firefox completely, including settings and preferences, then reinstalled, but that did not correct the missing button.

    Hi,
Please try '''Restore Default Set''' in the '''Customize...''' window. If it's still not visible, one reason could be that the button is already placed on the toolbar but may be hidden behind another icon or toolbar.

  • How can I put the "open new tab" button back to the right of the right most tab in FF 4?

It's very annoying to have to go up to the corner to click on the open new tab button when it used to be to the right of the right most tab. I have other buttons, like print up there and have to think about which one to click. What was wrong with where it was? It worked for me. At least tell me how, or allow me to change it back. It is one thing to make a product faster but allow the users to keep things in familiar places if they want. I've liked that option on Firefox with most things. I've been a Minefield then Shiretoko user for a number of years an I think I will stick with it for the foreseeable future.

Thanks. I don't know why it wouldn't just go back there when I tried putting it back? I didn't change anything, so I assumed the new "default" was over on the left. Glad it was a simple solution after all.

    Hi,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
If you would like to take a listing of the add-ons, important preferences/settings etc. to quickly replicate the previous profile, please open '''Troubleshooting Information''' via '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H'''), '''Copy all to clipboard''' and paste it into MS Office Excel, or OpenOffice/LibreOffice Calc, or notepad. However, it would be a good idea to check for the existence of the issue immediately after the reset.
After the reset, you can then [https://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Toolbar-Norton-Identity/Firefox-17-Support-for-Norton-Toolbar/td-p/853416 update Norton products]. Please also see the workaround.

  • How do I get back the 'open new tab' button (+ sign at right end of tabs) in Firefox 4 ?

How do I get back the 'open new tab' button (+ sign at right end of tabs) in Firefox 4 ? I realize there is a 'new tab' button at the right end of the toolbar but I like the new tab function placed next the tabs ?

The "Use custom settings for history" setting allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting that setting doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.<br />
Firefox shows the "Use custom settings for history" setting as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.<br />
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".<br />

  • The open new tab (+ sign button) unexpectedly stopped working when I click on the + sign why?

The + sign button that opens a new tab (called Untitled) stopped working. When I go to File, and click on New Tab, that does not work either. I checked the Options and made sure the "Open new window in new tab instead was checked. I tried System Restore, and I downloaded and installed Firefox 5.0. The + sign still does not work. This problem in on my desktop. I checked my laptop and the open new tab + sign button is working fine. What is happening?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4+ you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • When ever I customize the toolbar the open new tab sign that is the + sign near the lastly opened tab in the tab bar disappears and it remains so even after restarting Firefox.

When ever I customize the toolbar, the open new tab sign that is the + sign near the lastly opened tab in the tab bar disappears and it remains so even after restarting Firefox. This happens only after updating to the new version 4.0.1 it never happened in the older versions 3.x.xx- checked it thrice. Thought it could be a bug and i didn't know where to report also don't have time and patience to search for the appropriate page so i'm reporting here for improving my favorite browser.

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.<br />
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions.<br />
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible to the left of it.<br />

  • The open new tab link does not work

When I click on the open new tab link

  • HT201272 I PURCHASED RINGTONES ON MY IPHONE 4S BEFORE I EVEN PLUGGED INTO ITUNES THEN I PLUGGED IT IN FOR THE FIRST TIME AND RINGTONES HAVE DISSAPEARED FROM PHONE HOW DO I GET THEM BACK?

I PURCHASED RINGTONES ON MY IPHONE 4S BEFORE I EVEN PLUGGED INTO ITUNES THEN I PLUGGED IT IN FOR THE FIRST TIME AND RINGTONES HAVE DISSAPEARED FROM PHONE HOW DO I GET THEM BACK?

Try restoring from the backup created at the beginning of the sync process:
Without connecting your phone, open iTunes, go to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically"
Connect your phone, right-click on the name of your phone when it appears on the left sidebar in iTunes
Select Restore from backup, choosing your most recent backup to restore from
Disconnect your phone and confirm that your photos are back
Go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing.

  • The "open new Tab" commands either menu or the +tab tab do not work at all. A new tab is only created when an existing site opens a new window.

happens all the time. The tab "tab" on the right of the open browser tab does not work and neither does the menu File/New Tab.

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.

  • Is there any way to restore the 'Open New Tab' option in the tab bar drop-down menu?

After years of using tabbed browsing in Firefox, I've long-since gotten used to right-clicking the tab bar, and selecting the top menu item 'Open New Tab'. So much so that it has become reflexive. Now with v4, when I perform the same action, it now just reloads the current page. Is there ANY way to restore the option to the pull-down menu? I don't wanna have to move my pointer all the way to the other side of the screen just to open a new tab... (T_T)

Hello, I suffered from a similar problem with the new search bar type. I've found that you can go into '''about:config''', then search for '''browser.search.showOneOffButtons''' boolean and toggle that. This should restore the old functionality. (You might need to restart your browser)
Note that, like always, edit your '''about:config''' at your own risk.

  • How do I make the "Open new tab" button positioned at the end of the tab strip, on the right, next to the last open tab, just as the standard Firefox should be.

My "Open a new tab" button (the +) does not appear at the end of the tab strip, it does not look like it is given in all photos here in the support page. It did not look like this before either. Now I have it at the most left end i.e. before the tabs begin. I can move it to the most right, but it sticks there. I want it to be attached to the last open tab, as it used to be, and as is shown in example Firefox photos.
Could be useful if I sent you a print screen, but I don't see an attachment option here.
    Thanks!

  • New tab button isn't working, niether is the "open new tab" in file menu

When I click on the new tab button nothing happens. It also will not open a new tab when I click on "new tab" under the file menu. I have windows 7

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Disable that extension or un-install it.

  • Please can you put the "Open New Tab" button back where it was on the right hand side of the tabs, or at least give an option to put it there? Thanks.

In the line of tabs along the top of the screen, there used to be an extra tab with a + in it that you clicked to open a new tab, on the right hand end of the tabs. As the tabs always float left and new tabs appear on the right this was (in my opinion) the most logical place for it. However, now the only two places I am able to put this "tab" are at the extreme left, which is illogical seeing as the new tab appears on the right, or in the toolbar along with other tools. This is adequate, but I would prefer to see the "new tab" tab back where it was.
The option to put it on the far right of the tab ribbon was not working until this latest version of Firefox, by the way, but I'm sure you know this!

Thanks. I don't know why it wouldn't just go back there when I tried putting it back? I didn't change anything, so I assumed the new "default" was over on the left. Glad it was a simple solution after all.
