Alot of unknown harddrive activity

hi
for the last 2 week i had very much harddrive activity when im using my computer.
it sometimes takes more than 3 minutes to get up a explorer window.
i tried unified driver 2.03 and 2.45 no difference.
im using the same program as i have done for the last 3 months.
i reinstalled xp 3 times the last 2 week.
if i press ctrl alt and delete i can se that explorer.exe sometimes uses up to 371mb memory and all available cpu.
i used avg6 and tried norton av 2004 which found a virus in an avi movie.
also tried an online scan
tried adaware and spybot.
when its reading its impossible to browse internet and kazaa and icq cant connect.
anyone got any idea why its reading so much from the harddrive?
could it be my generic memory that start to malfunction ?
its not a heat problem
bye

hi
it started when i tried to start an episod of charmed was going for a few minutes then stopped.
after i was finished watching the episod i tried to start an mp3 and it started again.
i have more than 20gb avi and mpg movies.
Quote
Avi files (divx) can be trouble in xp. there is a fix to let xp behave much better so it's possible to move or delete large avi files. The obnoxious bug in XP that causes Explorer to read the entire contents of broken AVI files before allowing any access to them is caused by bad behavior of shmedia.dll.
To correct this misbehavior in Windows XP, remove the following
registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesCLSID{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}InProcServer32
This will prevent Explorer from loading shmedia.dll in response to file property queries on these files.
when i think of it i have not done it this xp installation yet but i had this problem starting in an installation i had for more than 2 month (almost a record)
i tried diskmon and it says i have 3 partitions on my harddrive.
well im not.
when i think of it.i had a fat32 partition for w98 and removed it with partition magic 8 and resized d:
could that be the problem ?
i still get that vsmon.exe and explorer.exe reads ALOT according to filemon.
the overall speed feels VERY slow.
when i press ctrl alt del and check there is not much cpu usage when its not reading.
i tried 3 times now to get up the "run" window from the start menu.
does not happen anything.
i have not tried safe mode.

  • Account Unknown on Active Directory

    How can I delete Account Unknown on Active Directory? is there a tool or script for deleting 1000 Account Unknown on Active Directory?

    Generally, Account Unknown may appear if the system cannot find the account SID which was recorded in ACL of an object in local system or AD database. This issue may occur if user accounts were deleted or the Account Unknown belongs to other system(dual
    boot configuration). This is reason that we recommend granting permission on resources to the Domain Local security group instead of individual users. It will be much easier for management and will not generate orphaned SID because user group is stabler.
    If you don’t have another system on the same computer or Domain Trust, we can delete the unknown accounts safely.
    However, It would be suggested to create a delegation report using the following command before deleting unknown accounts. I will help check them.
    for /f "delims=" %x in ('dsquery OU "OU=HR,DC=d1,DC=com"') do acldiag %x > %x.txt
    Please refer to this earlier discussed thread that is based on same concern :

    Since, there is a number of unknown accounts that is required to be deleted, you may try this
    AD cleaner tool that can be helpful to accomplish this task in quick attempt.

  • PRoblem with harddrive activity led when two cdroms are plugged in

    I am currently having problems with my hard drive led on my k7t266  Pro2-A whenever I have my harddrive, dvd drive, and cd burner connected the hard drive activity led doesn't do anything it just stays constantly on.  I have things setup like this: the hard drive WD 80GB Special Edition is master on IDE1, the TDK cd-burner is master on ide2 and the dvd drive is slave on ide2.  If I unplug the dvd drive the led wors like it is supposed to, but with it plugged in it just stays on any help would be appreciated.

    I would try to put both CD drives on one IDE and the HD on IDE #2. Play with the jumpers on the back of the CD drives, make one master and the other slave. I have had good luck with auto detect, but have one DVD player and one burner just compete with each other and both want to be the master.

  • Unknown network activity on iPhone 6

    Hello all,
    I have found a network "peculiarities" with my iphone 6.
    I have a number of devices connected to my Netgear WNDR 4300. I was debugging some weird LAN-activity, and came across that my recently bought iPhone 6 registers 3 network addresses on my router (screenshot attached)
    My wifi is only giving out 192.168.1.* addresses, however the iPhone is using a 10.0.0.* address and a high 192.168.*.* address. You can see from the screenshot that the same MAC address is common. When connecting any other device, like the iPad Air 2, this does not happen. Its important to notice that my DHCP-server on the wifi-router does NOT give out 10.0.0.* addresses, on any interface, on any band. Guest network is disabled.
    When disconnecting the iPhone 6, the addresses unregister themselves from the DHCP.
    Does anyone have any information on this ?
    Regards

    I have almost the SAME exact situation here.  I stumbled across this when looking at the router connections after my wife bought her new iPhone 6.  I like to reserve addresses for devices so that we can use the routers restrictions to prevent access during nighttime hours for the young ones.  When my wife's phone is connected, we have two devices showing for her phone.  One is the phone itself, and one just shows up as a network device.  Unique MAC address receiving an IP from the router.  I have looked and looked all over the net and on the phone, but can't find the answer.  I just found your post today, but see no one has replied with an answer .
    Odd thing with us is, that the unknown device is named with my wife's oldest daughters name who is away at college.  I know this daughter used my wife's macbook to connect her iphone to itunes several months ago, and it's almost like this has gotten attached to my wife's profile somehow.  This never happened until the 6, and I'm geeky enough to not let it go as I HAVE to know what's causing the second connection.  Like you, turn the phone off, both IP addresses go away....turn it back on, they reappear.

    These are all items that I don't recognize. I have my mini set up with a mobil account, but I have a different IP set up in VPN for that to use. And once I have VPN activated, I use a local network account from my XServe that is running OpenDirectory to take care of all the authentication, etc.
    The only items I have listed for automatic startup are:
    - MCXMenuExtraTool
    - Skype
    - SpeechSynthesisServer
    - iTunesHelper
    From what I can tell, only Skype has been added by me.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mike Bronner

    Well, let's see. NTP is the network time protocol, which keeps the system clock set to the correct time by checking with a server that is synchronized with a reference clock (in this case, it's checking with the NTP server at Apple that's sychronized with an atomic clock at the National Institute of Standards and Technology).
    Then there's a bunch of traffic to OpenDNS.org (208.67.219.132) -- probably your machine checking to see if it has permission to update the DNS server with your machine's username and password (which it doesn't have permission to do).
    The remainder look to be home broadband accounts -- probably pings from infected home computers looking for a mate. It's surprising that your router/gateway lets that sort of thing through. Do you have all the traffic forwarded to your Mac without any filter? Is there no gateway between the machine and your ISP?

  • Compliance Unknown - Client Check passed/Active

    I am running SCCM 2012 R2 in a test environment. My setup is very simple in that I only have around a dozen machines in it and I only have one site server.
    I have a couple of software deployments for my baseline updates and when I check these all of my machines are green and compliant. However, I have another deployment that is created via an ADR and most of my machines are green and compliant except two which
    are stuck on the Unknown tab saying "client check passed/Active". I have rebooted them, kicked off every action, refreshed, run summarization, reinstalled the client - yet none of these seem to be having any effect. Keep in mind these two machines
    are also in my 'baseline' deployments and they are reporting back just fine. For whatever reason, they are stuck as unknown in my ADR deployment.
    I've checked on a few of the logs and haven't stumbled across anything that stuck out but if anyone could kindly point me in the direction of the logs that are relevant to this issue I would appreciate it.
    EDIT 1:
    I ran the 'Compliance 1 - Overall Compliance' report against the ADR deployment and my test collection and the two machines in question came back as "Non-compliant" rather than compliance state unknown... which I find interesting
    EDIT 2:
    In my past experiences with SCCM 2012, I had very similar issues related to checking compliance. We would have a ton of machines go into the 'unknown' state and several other weird issues. We had a complex environment at my past job so I figured this evaluation
    would go much smoother since I have one site system and a dozen test machines. It makes me nervous that I am already experiencing similar issues. I am also shocked I can't find more info when searching related to machines reporting back as
    Unknown Passed/Active...

    One of the servers in question has not received updates since February. Here is WUAHandler.log and updatesHandler.log - I don't see anything that sticks out. Most logs appear to be acting normal and don't have any glaring errors being reported. I do not
    have any updates showing up in the software center on the server in question. It is the same OS and image as other servers that are working. Please let me know if you would like to see a different log....

  • Vlan interface "unknown protocol drops"

    Hello
    I have a satellite office that connects via VPN back to my Corporate office.
    The VPN is terminated on an Cisco 891.
    I have received complaints from the user's there that their Citrix session hangs on them. They can then reconnect the session and
    find the session was still going as they started back where they left off. There are several pc's that experiewnce the same issue.
    The Citrix server has been checked out. The PC's have been checked out and re-imaged just to make sure.
    I see on the Vlan interfacfe on the 9891 there are alot of unknown protocol drops.
    What does this mean and could it be the cause of the session hang?

    If you're running Citrix across a VPN, that crosses the Internet (?), I would be first concerned about transient latency and/or packet drops.  I would also be concerned whether your VPN has been configured to avoid packet fragmentation.

  • X200 Intel Active Management default password??

    Hello,
    I brought a Lenovo x200s and directly downgraded it to windows XP.
    Then I installed a personal firewall and recognized huge harddrive activity. So i checked the log and recognized the initiator: lms.exe. It belongs to Intel(R) Active Management Technology Local Manageability Service.
    I don't need the whole thing and checked the settings in control panel, but noting can be configured. This has to be done during boot. After pressing CTRL+P the Intel Management Engine Bios Extension asks for a Intel ME Passwort
    I have never entered any. What's the default one?
    Thanks...

  • How to create a new field in a sub screen in material master. ?

    How to create a new field in a sub screen in material master. ?
    Kindly help us.
    LIke wise tell me how to create a new sub screen as per my desired

    Follow the documentation of Logistics - General->Material Master->Configuring the Material Master->Create Program for Customized Subscreens  to add the new field in material master.
    Create Program for Customized Subscreens
    In this IMG activity, you can create a function group of your own by copying function group MGD1 (for industry) or function group MGD2 (for retail). The subscreens are not copied, except for two subscreens which are copied for technical reasons. You can use this copy to create subscreens of your own which you can assign to a data screen in the activity Define Structure of Data Screens for Each Screen Sequence.
    Requirements
    Be sure to read the program documentation first.
    Activities
    1. Create a function group of your own by choosing Execute.
    2. Enter a name containing up to 25 characters, beginning with the letter Y or Z, and choose Save.
    3. Access the Object Navigator.
    You do this from the SAP standard menu by choosing Tools -> ABAP Workbench, and then Object Navigator.
    4. Display either program SAPLMGD1 (industry) or SAPLMGD2 (retail) as required.
    5. Copy the subscreens as required, ensuring that they already contain as many as possible of the field names you want to use in your function group. You do this as follows:
    a) Choose Screens, position the cursor on the corresponding subscreen, and choose Copy in the context menu.
    b) Enter the program to which you want to copy the subscreen, prefixing it with SAPL, and enter a screen number. Use the screen number of the original subscreen where possible. If the F1 help is specific to a particular subscreen, this ensures that this context-specific help continues to be displayed.
    Example
    You have called your function group YENTERPRISE, to which you want to copy subscreen SAPLMGD1 2301. Enter SAPLYENTERPRISE as the program to which the subscreen is to be copied, and enter (preferably) 2301 as the screen number.
    6. Return to the initial screen of the Object Navigator and display your program. In the example above, you would enter SAPLYENTERPRISE.
    7. Choose Update object list.
    8. Select the subscreen you have copied and activate it by choosing Activate in the context menu.
    Using the Screen Painter, you can remove fields you do not require on the subscreen or include additional fields from other subscreens (see the ABAP Dictionary). For information on the Screen Painter, see the SAP library documentation BC ABAP Workbench Tools.
    Points to consider when removing or adding fields
    Make sure that a field statement exists for each field on the subscreen since data may not otherwise be transported correctly. You can use subscreen SAPLMGD1 2002 as an example.
    For the fields you have added, include any check modules and modules for self-programmed F4 help that are called up for these fields on the original subscreen. You can do this by displaying the flow logic for the original subscreen and searching for such modules. They normally have the same names as the fields themselves. When you find a module, copy the corresponding module call to your subscreen.
    If you change the order in which fields are transported that are checked together in the flow logic (such as the safety stock and minimum safety stock), you must deactivate the check module for the first field and activate it for the second. The system would otherwise transport the first field, and carry out the check before the second field is transported.
    Any error messages that fields are unknown when activating the subscreen are due to the fields still being included in checks, even though you have removed the fields from the subscreen. Search for the fields in the source code and make the lines in which they appear comment lines. Then reactivate the screen.
    9. Assign the subscreen to a data screen as required.
    Note on transport
    Use the Workbench Organizer to transport the copy you have created.
    Proceed

    Hi Experts,
    We have been using TMG 2010 from last 5 years as a reverse web proxy for OWA , outlook anywhere , active sync etc. Of late users from one particular site have been complaining of regular disconnections on outlook and OWA.
    We don't have complaint from any other site except to this , whereas users in this site can browse other secure web sites without any challenge.
    I have diagnosed the packets coming from their public IP and i could see that lot of connections happen successfully whereas few it shows either denied connection or failed connection attempt.
    if i concentrate on failed connection attempt , i get the below information. Can some one provide any hint on the possible resolution for this issue.
    Any help would be much appreciated

    Hi,
    >>64 The specified network name is no longer available
    This error is very general. You need to collect a network trace and analyze it. The most common one is when the backend server is performing a dirty TCP connection reset.
    You could have a look at the blog below.
    Error 64 “ The specified network name is no longer available” while accessing a

  • IPhone 5 Battery & Data usage issues

    Here's my journey.
    I had the iPhone 5 from the day it was realeased. Was with Vodafone Australia. Phone was awesome. Coverage was an issue, so decided to swap to Telstra recently. Got new iPhone 5 with the change over.
    From the beginning, the new Iphone on Telstra, the battery was draining completely in less than 3 hours. Looked at the support communities and spoke to Apple. I made the mistake of setting the phone up from a "BackUp". They suggested setting it up as a "new phone" in iTunes.
    Did that - phone had been awesome until 4 days ago when I decided to "Update All" of the pending App updates. After all was downloaded the phone returned to its draining self, also becomign VERY VERY HOT when charging. Warmer than normal. Also got a SMS from Telstra to say I have used 82% of my download entitlement. With 22 days remaining!!!! Something wasnt right, not only was it using the battery life, cellular data usage was being drained also.
    Spoke to Apple, they told me I would need to do a process of elimination to find the "corrupt" app that was draining the Battery & Data.
    I deleted every single App I had on the phone, yet it made no difference. I started to monitor the cellular data recieved on the phone. With no apps and nothing running, how is there data and battery being drained.
    Decided yesterday to"RESTORE" iPhone once again. Set up as a new phone. I had loaded my email settings, but nothing else. I hadnt even provided my Apple ID infomation so the App Store wasnt logged in. Phone was still not right. Played with some settings, decided to turn my "Exchange" email from "PUSH" to "Manually Fetch".  After this, the phone was back to normal. No cellular data being downloaded and battery OK. Turned Exchanged back to PUSH, then the battery decides to trickle away again.
    After all this ********, I have narrowed it down to the way my exhcnage server checks for new messages. I have ALWAYS had my Exchange server PUSH emails to me. Why with this phone, on 6.1 should I have to have it to Manually check for emails.
    I get the feeling from conversations with other people, there seems to be alot of unknown data usage which Apple need to make a priority in preventing. This is costing consumers time and money.
    Curious if anyone else has had same issue?

    The issue is pretty broad.   I see posts all over the internet on iphone 5.  I use the phone on 2 continents and both places have the issue.  Therefore, it is not a network issue, it's an Apple issue.  I use pccw in Hong Kong and AT&T in the US.  I have isolated the issue to the phone sending data, massive amounts of data, all on it's own.  At first I tried turning everything off like icloud, itunes, passbook, all downloads, etc.  Eventually, I shut everything off other than cellular data.  The phone will be fine for some amount of time then it randomly begins sending data.  It can send 100mb an hour, with nothing on at all.  You can view your send data under settings> general> usage> Cellular usage.  I went as far as taking screen shots every minute and watched it sending massive amounts of data.  Here they are, just a sample.  Apple's suggestion on chat is to turn data off or put it on airplane mode....   quite frustrating since those are the two reasons you buy a smart phone to begin with...  I'm hoping there is a solution other than not to use the phone.

  • System Information

    I'm hoping to pull out certain system values from a windows operating system; xp mainly.
    I understand there is bits you can pull out on the fly:
    public class Operating
        public static void main(String[] args)
            String name = "os.name";
            String architecture = "os.arch";
            String version = "os.version";
            String user = "user.name";
                System.out.println(System.getProperty(name));
             System.out.println(System.getProperty(architecture));
             System.out.println(System.getProperty(version));
            System.out.println(System.getProperty(user));
            System.out.println(System.getenv("COMPUTERNAME"));
               System.out.println(System.getenv("HOMEDRIVE"));
    }Ideally though I'm trying to pull out a bit more.
    Processor & Installed Physical Memory (RAM)
    ie:
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz, 1995 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
    4.00GB
    So I thought I could try it a bit differently using
    Process child = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command); of msinfo. It has the option to export that into a text file and then scan that in.
    It got messy, either the system didn't recognise the command, it is sometimes "msinfo32" or "winmsd" and I got alot of unknown chars.
    Anyways, thanks for your patience with the wall of text, is there a better way for me to approach this?
    I hope to nail this to apply the same method to the command "tasklist" and possibly "netstat"

    Just something I'm interested in playing round with, I understand it is relatively simple with other languages. I'm intrigued, there must be a decent way to do this in java, No, not really since Java and all APIs are designed to be platform independent, so it's usually hard to get hold of things that are platform dependent.
    trying to wrap my head how.
    I had considered using JNI but to be honest never used it.
    I'm just trying to work out a java option to do this, considering there are windows commands that pull this information, there must be a way for me to extract from a textfile/dos Yes, as you said in your first post. You can execute the commands, and parse the output, but I don't count that as a decent way.
    or go down the registry path.That would also require native code, libraries that are native, or executing native commands.

  • HR vs. BW

    Hi,
    I have tried to load some data from HR to BW.
    For the tables PA0000 and PA0001 i used the BC-solution, and it worked just fine.
    Know i would like to be able to extract and load the tables PA0002,PA2001 and PA2006 into BW. There is no BC for these tables, so i have tried to "copy/paste" the function module from the BC-solution(for PA0000/0001), into my own generic solution. This is not popssible because of an unknown field (activation-error) comming from a connected function module.
    If i try to do the extract/load in a generic DS without the function module, BW can't find any data in the source ("No data in the source system..")
    Any ideas how to extract these 3 tables ??
    I am authorized to get the HR data, so authorization should not be an issue.
    Regards,
    AH
