Alternative for TOAD on Linux

Hi
I am migrating my desktop from Windows 2000 to Redhat Linux 9.
I have been using third party tool TOAD for accessing the data from the database. As TOAD does not have a Linux setup, can any one suggest an alternative for the same.

you are posting in the wrong forum.. this forum is for the Desktop Datacenter Oracle on Linux VMware kit..
you'll get better luck in other forums or better yet, Google.. I put toad and linux as keywords and got lots of hits on TOra.. so you might research that way..

Linux alternative for Jiggler?

I'm wondering if there is a Linux alternative for Jiggler. Jiggler is a small OS X application which basically keeps your computer awake or your display from going to screensaver or switching off by "jiggling" the computer every so often if there has been no user activity. For example, you can tell it to "jiggle" every 2 minutes and it will then make sure that something happens at least every two minutes to keep the machine fully alert. You can also set it to "jiggle" only if certain applications are running although this bit isn't especially important to me - I don't think I ever used it.
What is nice about Jiggler is that you can start it when giving a presentation, for example, without having to reconfigure all of your energy-saving and display settings. If you then spend a while talking about a slide or in discussion, you don't have to keep returning to your laptop to bring the display back to life.

Thanks very much. I had no idea what dpms was. Man pages suggest that this concerns whether or not the computer controls the power state of a display. So if it is enabled for a display, blanking, sleep etc. will be triggered for that display after a certain time according to the system's standard power management configuration. If it is not enabled, these will not affect that particular display. Is that correct?
So I could essentially disable dpms for the relevant VGA display. (I'm not bothered if my laptop display goes to screensaver etc. - just that the main output on the screen doesn't disappear.)
Is it possible to do this by simply writing "Off" to /sys/devices/pci0000\:00/0000\:00\:02.0/drm/card0/card0-VGA-1/dpms? Or would that be much too easy or otherwise ill advised?

Alternative for CodeXpert

TOAD has a nice, integrated feature called CodeXpert. It evaluates pl/sql code and recommends possible changes according to a set of programming rules and standards.
I'm trying to find an alternative for this feature in SqlDeveloper. Maybe a plug-in ?
Any suggestions ?

I'm afraid there isn't, but you can always vote on the existing request for this at the SQL Developer Exchange, to add weight for possible sooner implementation. (I believe there is one, else create a new request)

Alternative for Visual FoxPro on OS X?

Does anyone knows any alternative for Visual FoxPro on OS X which can run simple commands, because I do not have any server and I do not need to work on whole programs?

JLayeredPane alternative for SWT

Hi there,
I have recently started working in SWT, have been long working in Swing.
I post this question here since I didn't find any specific forum for SWT queries, which btw I think is the need of the hour. SWT definitely calls for a separate dedicated forum like we have for Swing.
Basically what my goal is to develop a Chess game for online-game play on popular chess servers like FICS, ICC, there is another open source client (pretty good) developed in java swing available by the name JIN, perhaps you know of it too.
I do like JIN, but I personally like the interface of BabasChess better and more comfortable, but its not available as such for linux environment and so I decided that I should go ahead and build one for myself. If it is good enough, I will even release it as an open source applications for others' use.
Since SWT is much better than Swing in terms of both accessibility in general and visually too, I am certain I want to do it in SWT rather than in Swing.
Coming to my question, I am wondering if there is an alternative for JLayeredPane of Swing in SWT so that I can create a Chess board and easily allow Drag and Drop of chess pieces for moves. I will really appreciate any help or input that I can get from here since I am very serious about developing a game.
Apart from that I also want to know how logical or appropriate it is to use Swing components in SWT?

I think there is a bug with Windows Store Applications when it comes to using DisplayMemberPath="Value".

to use control break statement, first you should sort the internal table and then you use it.
Take one example:

it9 = '2B'. append it9.
sort it9 by f1.
loop at it9.
     at new f1.

         endat.
     at end of f1.
         write: / 'end   of:', it9-f1.
         endat.
     endloop.
free it9.

Please, let me know how to mention the Oracle driver within the forName.class(" "); statement in the Jdbc-Servlet for Unix and Linux based servers.
I'm using Windows-OS for Java programming. Should I have to use the same environment(Unix/Linux with Oracle) for compiling or just compiling, mentioning the driver in the java program would suffice?

I've used Oracle's thin driver like this:
Class.forName ( "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver" );
Connection DBConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:USER/PASSWD@database" );
You need Oracles client classes ( e.g. classes111.zip ) at run time, not during compilation.
Thin client connects directly to the Oracle DB, so the database description is like PORT:MACHINE:SID
Connection is made through Oracle's listener even when your DB is in the same machine that your program is running. Port number is propably 1521 or 1526, depending on your listener.ora definitions and used Oracle SQL*Net version.
