Alternative to Creative Mediasource?

Do Creative have a modern updated Software please?
I am running Windows 7.
It needs to be a Media (mainly Music) Library, that also rips CD's to mp3.
I currently have CMS5, but wondered if there's an updated version that shows Album Art etc?
Any help will be appreciated.
TIA

Dito,
ADMIN please look down the page and explain why i have no sound when i am using the new (beta) drivers in Vista.
And yes i would expect to be able to recommend other products to people who are having problems with Creative stuff, if creative have not got their act together. Vista has been around for ages why has it taken Creative so long to start writing drivers for it.
Instead of an apology and an answer to my problem i get a "This is not open for disussion" comment. How about someone explains to me why the drivers don't work then i'll go away.
I paid a ridiulcous amount of money for my creative products, Audigy 2 ZS and i also bought the Gigaworks speakers. (Which i may add have some unusual quirks, for example i press the on and off button and it will flick widly between the two states the first few times) Or the Rather loud banging noise from the sub upon bootup or shutdown from my machine).
Bottom line is if you look after your customers you might not get people wanting to buy new products from different manufacturers. My next question is, after having argued with one of the Admins, will i get an answer to my question and a fix? i hope so, as a computer without sound isn't very useful when you design games!!!

  • Trouble with Creative Mediasource

I'm using the latest driver (2.0.00) And Firmware (2.0.03), and CMS5 5.0.38, with the plugins for Zen and the PlaysForSure. My system us Windows XP, SP2, and I meet the minimum system reqs for the program.
Since "upgrading" to Creative MEdiasource 5, I've run into several problems, perhaps all interconnected.
--Mediasource takes an incredibly long time to load my Zen (40 GB Zen Xtra), upwards of 3 minutes. This took only a few seconds in previous versions. This is present when connected through my front, back and USB hub ports.
--Mediasource will rip a CD incredibly slowly. If I try to transfer more than one CD (That is, one, the procedure ends, and then start up another), I will get an error message and MEdiacsource will shut down.
--Sometimes, the window itself will disappear, and I will be unable to access it. This has happened a couple of times instead of the previous problem. The process will still run, but I will be unable to reload it, and trying to forcibly end the process (Task Manager) seems not to work. This also happens sometimes when I browse away from my Zen (Say, to a CD or file on my computer), and come back to my Zen.
I tried using my prior version, but it doesn't recognise my Playsforsure device at present, and I'm not sure if it's even possible to alter it.
Is anyone else having a similar problem? I loved Mediasource prior to this version: It was a sleek, easy and intuiti've interface and covered almost all of my Organisation needs. I did check the boards, but I may have missed a similar problem. I'm wondering if this is an issue that people have a solution to.
    Any help's appreciated.

    Hello:
I have formatted the player using the recovery menu as well as with WMP, because both are the recommended and "only" ways to format, depending on who you listen to. No difference, however in the way WMP behaves. When I get to the point where WMP can only sync a small few files, if I do a Cleanup (from rescue mode), let the Nomad rebuild the library, I can usually get more files in before it clogs up again. Every time I do a fresh format, I lose a couple of days worth of work, so I'm not doing it again.
I don't have any way to control how much of the library to synchronize once it has gotten past my playlists, unless I spend time creating more playlists for this purpose. With a 60 G Nomad, and a library suitable for that storage, that's a TON of music to deal with.
I'm still trying to figure out whether this is a Windows Media Player issue, a driver issue, or a Nomad firmware issue. Since I have to reset the Nomad between each sync attempt, and occasionally do a cleanup, I'm guessing it's the Nomad, and since I've seen it on more than one unit, I'm guessing it's a firmware bug.
I'm hoping someone else has seen this issue and has a better idea. I hate all my choices: Notmad is frustrating because I can't get my playlists to come across. Creative Media Source is less reliable than WMP, so that leaves WMP as the least aggravating way to sync, and it works flawlessly with my smaller sized Sansa Clip from the same library.

  • Creative Mediasource Organizer Losing Year T

I use Windows XP, Creative Mediasource Organizer version 3.30.35 and my player is a Zen MicroPhoto 8G. I have over 4000 MP3 files organized with id tags in Creative Mediasource Organizer. These are almost exclusivly?MP3 files that I recorded myself. Of the 4000 files?there are only a handful, just?one album that could possibly find tag information?to pull from the internet. Yesterday,?more than?200 of my mp3 files?had blank?year tags. I entered the correct year in several dozen of these so that only about 65 had blank year tags. Then I closed the software and turned of my computer. Today I opened Creative Mediasource Organizer to work on filling in those blank year tags. There were over 400 blank year tags today. What is happening? I have PC Music Library open. I select a single file, right click, click properties, click tag information, enter the year in the year field, click OK. Then I right click and select "update tag" click "yes" to confirm that I want the changes to apply to the file itself and not just to the PC Media Library. Please, someone help me understand why?the number of blank year tags is growing instead of shrinking? What can I do to retain the information I enter in these tags?

YESTERDAY:?Monday March 2, 2007:?I edited my media library from within Creative MediaSource so that there are no files without a valid year in the year tag. For?each MP3 file the other standard tags also contain meaningful data. These are?title, artist, album and?genre,?but not track. I don't see any practical way to use the track field for some of these files, so not all of them have a track number. The files I want in my media library are all the MP3 and WMA files within C:/MP3 and it's subfolders. The properties of C:/MP3 as viewed from "My Computer" are 3922 files and 249 folders. About a dozen are WMA files and one is a text file. All the others are MP3 files. The problem is that?there are quite a number of duplicate entries. And the Media Library is reporting several hundred more files within C:/MP3?than "My Computer" is reporting there.
I used "Tools/Settings/PC Media Library/ Delete invalid entries" but it did NOT remove the duplicate entries. Exiting the program and opening it again did not correct the count either. So I selected ALL the files, right clicked, and selected "update tags." I clicked YES to update the tag data from the media library to the files. When that operation was completed, I deleted all the files from the library but not from the computer. And?now I am?importing all the files within C:/MP3?back into the library. It says "now transferring 859 of 3920 files." This is good! 3920 is very close to 3922 minus the one text file. I want to see if, when this transfer is finished, I will have the correct number of MP3 files in my media library, and I want to see if the tag data, including the year data, remains?intact after this transfer. The transfer is complete. I do have 3920 files in my media library now and the data in the id tags appears to be intact. Hopefully, this will still be the case when I open the software tomorrow. THE NEXT DAY:?Tuesday, March 3, 2007: Grrr! I now have 3950 files in my media library where it should be only 3920. I did not add anything ?or make any edits. Exactly 30 of these entries?have blank year fields. I'm thinking that Creative MediaSource is NOT?loosing the data in year tags as I first thought, rather it's ADDING entries that are identical to existing entries except that the year fields in the added entries are empty. I think that if I enter the correct year data, I will end up with 30 entries that are truly exact duplicates. I don't see a pattern or clue to tell me why these 30 and not the others ... they have different artists, different albums, genres and the data in the missing year fields was not all the same. In the track fields, a few are blank, but most of them have data. "Tools/Settings/PC Music Library/Clean up now" did not elimiinate these 30 extra entries. Looking at the properties of C:/MP3 from "My Computer" still shows 3922 files (one is a text file) ... From my experiments yesterday, I am pretty sure that I can delete these 30 extra entries and be left with valid entries for all my files. This is frustrating. I'm hoping that these observations will be helpful to a programmer working on the next version of Creative MediaSource. I would send these comments directly to them, but they don't seem to provide a way for me to do that.

  • Creative MediaSource won't recognize my Zen Micro all of the sudden!! What is going o

When I first began using my Zen Micro, Creative MediaSource worked fine. I could start my player and it recognized it right away. Then I was told I had to update my firmware and download an update to MediaSource. I did both but shortly thereafter I started having problems! Primarily, when i plug in my Micro a window pops up where I have 3 options, none of which are Creative MediaSource. The window has "MTP Media Player" across the top bar, but i havn't a clue what the "MTP" stands for. The 3 options given are "Sync your music using Napster", "Synchronize media files to this device using Windows Media Player", and "Take no action". I initialy tried "Take no action" and then opened MediaSource only to find it didn't recognize my Micro any more. I then e-mailed Creative for help and got a reply telling me to.............
Thank you for contacting Creative Technical Support.
In regards to your issue, you can try uninstall and reinstall
    MEdiaSource with these procedures.
. Click START -> RUN -> type MSCONFIG and click OK.
    2. Click SELECTIVE STARTUP and then uncheck LOAD STARTUP GROUP ITEMS.
    3. Apply the changes and reboot the computer when prompted.
    4. Uninstall MediaSource from the system using ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
    5. Manually delete the MediaSource folders from the computer system :
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\CTCDDB
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIA MANAGER
    C:\MEDIA\MUSIC
    6. Right-click your My Computer icon and click Properties.
    7. Click the Hardware tab and then click Device Manager.
    8. Remove any listings for Creative NOMAD products in the Device
    Manager
(they will most likely be located in the Uni'versal Serial Bus
    Controllers category).
    9. If you have a category call Other Devices, look for listings in
    there
called USB Device. If you have any, remove them.
    0. Install MediaSource only from the original installation CD.
NOTE: DO NOT OPEN MEDIASOURCE WHILE PERFORMING THESE PROCEDURES.
Also, you can try reloading the Zen Micro's firmware through recovery
    mode.
Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert
the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue
    mode appears.
Clean Up: Performs a disk scan on the players hard disk
Format: Formats the players hard disk All contents will be lost
Reload OS: Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Do not select
this option unless you have downloaded the firmware. Reloading your OS
will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen
    Reboot: Reboots the device
Please attempt the options 'Reboot' and 'Clean Up' first. If they do
    not
help, you must try 'Reload OS'. To do this, you must have a downloaded
firmware from our website ready. Please let us know the results after
these steps, as soon as possible.
For faster service please reply with previous correspondence when
    replying to this email.

    "Get Creative"
I followed the directions, but 3 of the folders listed in step 5 didn?t exist (only C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE did), there were no Creative NOMAD products listed as in step 8, and there was no ?Other Devices? as stated in step 9. I did everything else for all the steps through step 0.
I then re-installed Creative MediaSource from the CD only to find it still didn?t recognize my player! I?ve now done this twice with the same results!
Zen Micro Media Explorer doesn?t even recognize my Micro when it'ss plugged in! It just keeps saying ?The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen Micro to the computer?.
I?m hardly a tech expert, but it seems to me that something on my PC is detecting my player and decieding for itself that the only 2 programs it will let manage my Zen Micro are Napster and Windows Media Player. If this is the case where do I go from here?!?!

    LakeTahoeGuy,
Just as SSR mention, if you're using v2.xx.xx (MTP) firmware then you will need to get the correct version of Media Explorer that support this firmware and also install the MTP plugin for MediaSource. Both the software and plugin are available from the site SSR mention.

  • Creative MediaSource will not play certain MP3

I have a Creative Audigy 2 NX with a remote that I really want to be able to use. Programs such as GIRDER, WinLIRC, and uICE do not support the RM-500 remote control.
I can't figure out how to control the remote beyond editing and creating key files that send ASCII commands, but the problem with that is I cannot control programs that are not currently acti've. In other words, I cannot control winamp if I'm playing a game with my remote, which is what I want to do. The KEY files are structured as this:[KeyEvent690 etc]KeyName=whateveryouwantdisplayedNotification=- or 2 or 4KeyEventRemap=this is the important partHandleByApp=i don't know what this doesAnyway, if I set notification to -, I can send ASCII commands-- BUT these will not send to programs not currently on top. If I set notification to 2, as Creative did in their Winamp .x key file, I could control the program even if it is not on top-- BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE KeyEventRemaps NUMBERS SHOULD BE. I cannot find this information, and I have tested as far as I am capable of doing manually (tested numbers through 500 MANUALLY).So what I want to be able to do is use my remote to control winamp, but that is impossible. And Creative MediaSource will not play streaming audio (for God knows why...). So what I decided to do was record to an MP3 player with a third party program and play that MP3 in the Creative MediaSource software (the built-in recorder will NOT work, as I cannot structure that into a playlist nor can I play the recording media nor can I minimize the program and mute the feedback-- I can only record if I'm playing, and this doesn't work). The first problem I encountered was several programs would not output MP3s that were playable as they were being recorded, however I finally did find one. This program, 3aLab iRadio, allows the MP3 to be played back WHILE simultaneously being recorded. The only problem is that this the Creative MediaSource software will NOT play the mp3. Out of the 5 different MP3 players I tested, ONLY the Creative MediaSource software would not playback the MP3 as being written. I cannot figure this out, and I am at a loss as to what to do next. I realize that Creative won't support streaming audio with their player, MediaSource, but what I like to do is listen to streaming internet radio as an item on my mp3 playlist in winamp. I wish to be able to control this with my remote, but as I cannot find ANY WAY out there to control my remote as I wish without further information, this is a dead end. My alternati've is to use the Creative software for which the remote was designed to work, but unfortunately this does not support streaming internet radio nor does it support MP3s that are being written to. This is driving me insane.
What I want to be able to do is have a playlist that I control with my remote, with the first item on the list being internet radio, the 2nd and such on down being MP3s. In winamp, this is doable, as well as in Windows Media Player, and most MP3 players out there. Since I cannot do this in Creative's software, I need a workaround alternati've. PLEASE.
So, in conclusion, is there anyone out there who can either tell me how to control my remote directly by identifying what the notification=2 keyeventremap=configuarions are, give me a program like girder however which supports the RM-500 remote, or tell me how to get MP3s that are being written to (aka incomplete) to play in the Creative MediaSource software?
Thank you very much for your time.

  • Creative MediaSource Playlist to Winamp Playl

Hello, I'm just wondering if it is possible to take a Creative MediaSource Organizer playlist and turn it into a playlist that can be used in Winamp. I don't really like using anything other than Winamp to play music, and I don't feel like recreating all of my playlists (I have a LOT of them) into playlists that can be read by Winamp. Thanks for the help and answers :-).

, I would suggest using the Zen Media Explorer for your device to make & edit playlists. It is on the install disc. MediaSource is not that good. Of all the Creative software the Zen Media Explorer for each player is one I do use often for this reason.

  • Creative MediaSource and ID3 t

Creative MediaSource doesn't seem to update it's internal database from ID3 tags. For example I ripped a CD and MediaSource failed to get the year of the album. So, I added the information to the Id tags using Winamp. I reimported the file into MediaSource but it still fails to display the year correctly. Does Mediasource ignore ID tag information accept to overwrite it's
    Thanks,

Thanks, yes that worked. It's a nuisance that the updating doesn't occur automatically but it's much better than not working at all.

  • Creative MediaSource can't seem to see audio C

Thank you in advance and I apologize if there's a solution posted somewhere that I couldn't find. I tried.
I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra that I bought a year or so ago. Works great, I love it. I've always used the software that came with it, Creative MediaSource, to move songs from CDs to my computer and then to the Zen Extra.
But today I got on and Creative Mediasource seemed to have uninstalled itself. None of the shortcuts worked. So after several tries of re-installing, it seems to be back.
Except formerly, when I would have MediaSource up and put in a CD, it would immediately list Track , Track 2, etc. (and I would later use the web thing to get the names). If for some reason it didn't, I would go over to the Sources column, click on the CR-R line and then the Track , Track 2, etc would come up in the center column.
But now nothing shows up in the center column. So I can't rip the CDs to the computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the result is the same. Here's one thing I noticed: I accidentally left the installation CD in and when I click on that CD dri've, the list of folders immediately shows up in that center column. So it's seeing the dri've, and that CD, but not my audio CDs for some reason.
Can you please help? I guess from looking at this forum there are other software packages to use to rip CD and move music around, but this is the one I'm used to and it seems a waste to just toss it away and start with something else. Plus all my previously ripped music is in that PC Music Library folder.
Thank you in advance for whatever help you can give me. As you can tell, I'm not real savvy on all this and I've already wasted most of my Saturday on it.

  • Creative MediaSource Organizer Alternati

Ok, so I have a Zen Vision M, and I can't figure out a way to listen to the songs that are on my mp3 player through my computer. The only way I've seen that even offers me the ability to do this is through MediaSource Organizer, and that quite frankly is terrible. Everytime I want to find a song I have to find the artist folder, then find the album folder, then find the song. I can't stand it. I'm the type of guy that is looking for a song, not an artist. I can't figure out a way for it to have all the songs on my mp3 player to come up in like an "All Tracks" list or anything - I'm stuck having to go through 3 different folders everytime I want to hear a single song. Now, is there any way that I can listen to my songs on my computer without using this player? I'd prefer to use Windows Media Player since I'm most familiar with that, but so far I haven't been able to figure out how the hell to play the songs, only sync them. I definitely don't want to have to upload everything from my player back onto my computer in order to listen to it. If by some chance the ONLY thing that allows me to play the songs on my mp3 player through my computer is Creative MediaSource...then can someone please tell me how I can set it so that it just pops up with "All Tracks" in alphabetical order or something? This is killing me. Thanks guys.

I've also been looking for an alternati've to MediaSource. It used to be a good program, but the whole MTP Playforsure crap ruined everything.. I really wish I had not upgraded my Zen Xtra.
Its makes the performance really slow and brings in way too many limitations.
I mean it takes nearly 4 mins to get MediaSource to display all the files on my Zen Xtra, and Vision M, that's just unacceptable. Before I upgraded the firmware it only took a couple seconds. And I was able to sort the music by artist, Genre, album, and the using the search feature brought back results instantly.
I know that Playforsure support was a major request for some users, but I wonder if they knew that things would wind up like this! Becuase this decrease of performance and loss of functionlity, was not advertised in there description of the new firmware!
And its not fair that I wasn't even given a choice with the Zen Vision M!
I used to have an MPIO HD300 and a iAudio X5. Both of the players were both MTP I think, but they showed up as a dri've letter in Windows and any music program could access the files. I wish Creative would take a hint from that.

    IceMan,
You can install the CDRW database update for the MediaSource. That should fix your problem. Go to the driver download page and do a search for this filename - CDBD_PCApp__00_05.exe

  • 'Creative Mediasource Organizer' Folders and the ZEN V pla

Using the Creative Mediasource Organizer, I've set up a few Folders on the 'Creative Zen V' player but when I undock the player and use it to find and play the songs, they're not organized by the Folders. In fact, I don't the folder 'structure' at all. Is there a way I can see and use my folder structure I've set up for the player? and, if not, then why does the Organizer enable me to set up folders? Thanks.

Folders on the device are merely for your own convenience and organization. The device relies solely on ID TAGS on how it plays and displays the various tracks. You will need to get your tracks in order and edit the tags.

  • Album details ripped using iTunes cannot be read in Creative MediaSource. Any f

    Hi.
Most of my CD collection was ripped using iTunes. All album details are viewable when using iTunes, Windows Media Player, Real Player & Nero Player.
Creative MediaSource doesn't see the album details and, of course, won't pass them on to my Zen NX.
Any tracks ripped using Creative MediaSource show full track listing etc on my Zen NX
Is there a way to make Creative Source read or import the album & track information?
I have tried using WMP and Real Player to upload to my Zen NX but (on 2 PCs) it just hangs.
All programmes are upto date - as is NX firmware.
    Appreciate any help.
    Wint.

Be very careful. There's a bug in at least some versions of MediaSource which will strip tag data from files encoded in iTunes, due to the way it formats the track number field.
It might also be a problem with the ID3 tag version that iTunes uses being incompatible with MediaSource.
The first thing to do is go to http://www.nomadworld.com/downloads/drivers and get the latest version of MediaSource.
Also take a look in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net for alternati'ves to MediaSoure and also some tagging programs.
